We came here for dinner tonight and were seated immediately and without a reservation. We sat indoors as it is June in Texas, although when the weather is cooler I could see the outdoor seating being nice. The food was solid, and reasonably priced. I did like my quesadilla as well as the tostada atun appetizer. My fiancé enjoyed her dinner as well. read more

My mom and I went to Esther's today, while the food was decent, our server seemed very new. We were met with a lot of "I don't knows" when we had questions about the menu, both a hot plate and a knife were set down right in front of my toddler, and there was no changing table in either of the bathrooms to accommodate my toddler. Buda is a very family oriented area so I was surprised by this. read more

Food in incredible and the service is perfect. Will be coming back! We came on a Friday night and it was very quiet. A great hidden gem for date night! read more

Service was terrible. We were ignored for a long time while everyone around us were being taken care of, even though they weren't too busy. I finally had to let the bus person know (I was polite) nobody had taken our order. It didn't get any better. The food was not good. The pork in the pastor tacos tasted bad and had chunks of gristle fat. The shredded chicken in the taqueria tasted like it was boiled with no spices at all. My friend and I didn't eat any of the meat, but I did take it home for my dogs, and they liked it. Been and cheese nachos were good and their salsa was very good. read more

Got the chili rilleno. My friend got the taquitos. We also ordered queso. Taquitos and chili rellenos were good. Queso could have included a few more ingredients; as a California native, this was reminiscent of nacho cheese only with cheese on the side. Friend said that there should have been more ingredients in the cheese to make it more legit queso experience. Other than that, real cute decor. read more

We just had lunch at Esther's after striking out with parking at our first couple restaurant choices right down Main St - we couldn't believe our luck when Esther's had a completely empty parking lot and the OPEN sign still flashing in the window. We almost thought twice about eating there since it was totally empty while everywhere just a block or two away was packed, but I'm so glad we gave it a shot. The decor is so adorable and well done (including a very cute and spacious outdoor area with plenty of fans blowing), the service was quick and friendly, and the food was absolutely delicious, right down to the chicken tenders and fries the kids ordered. We have definitely found our new go-to spot in Buda! read more

The service was extraordinary. The food was delicious and the portions were large enough for left overs .. the waitress was very attentive. It is so adorable inside. Lots to notice being the first time there... we will definitely return and hopefully it will be as good as the first time.. read more

I don't leave reviews often, but I felt the need to share my experience. This was my first time visiting Esther's Mexican Restaurant in Buda, and unfortunately it was a very disappointing visit. We were the only customers in the restaurant. I ordered egg and sausage tacos, only to be told they had no sausage. The silverware on the table was dirty, the bacon that was brought out was cold, and the potatoes I ordered never arrived. Overall, the service and food quality were unacceptable. I won't be returning, especially with several better Mexican restaurant options available in the Kyle/Buda area. read more

Very good place with seating inside and out! They have a great happy hour 7!days a week! I had the puffy tacos and my son had enchiladas both were fresh and good. We had nachos as an appetizer delicious! Great service and small town feel we love! Will be back! read more

Well....... This was a pleasant surprise to see such a quaint spot just on the outskirts of downtown Buds. Which is about 3 blocks long if you have never been there. The food was really good and the atmosphere was excellent. The service was very prompt and the staff was fantastic. If you are near the downtown area, please stop in! It's a fun spot in town with plenty of seating, parking and of course, extra large to go cups of tea! read more

This place has some interesting decor and a seat your self type atmosphere. Our waitress was nice, although not attentive. We sat there with no drink refills the entire time, ran out of chips that we had to ask when our food arrived (10min after running out) to be refilled. My husband got the carls combo or something like that. He had to ask for his taco since it didn't come out with his food. The waitress left and then came back and asked what kind of taco...we had already had a conversation over what he wanted on it while ordering and that it was a crispy beef taco. He asked for meat, cheese, and sour cream only. It came with only meat and cheese, and we were charged $1 for the sour cream that wasn't on it. His taco meat was cold and dry - tasted old and reheated, and the enchiladas had almost no sauce so they were falling apart while trying to eat them. I ordered the cheese chili relleno. It was so greasy and bland. Part of it was burnt and you could taste it, but it wasn't crispy anywhere so it leads me to think that it was something floating in the fryer that attached to it. The rice was crispy and under cooked with no flavor. The beans were sitting in grease (see picture) but had no flavor either. I ordered a side of sour cream for it, and it had guacamole at the bottom of the cup...avocados are a severe allergy for some people so be cautious - seems like they aren't keeping the line or the tools clean if there is cross contamination. The salsa is overwhelming with cilantro, you can't taste anything else in it. The queso was ok, but mainly just cheese - nothing to write home about. Tortillas are not homemade. As we were leaving we noticed trays upon trays of margarita glasses PRE-SALTED! They aren't that busy so you know those aren't going to be used tonight. How long are those sitting there, pre salted getting dust in the glass? Hard pass on the margaritas simply because of that! With so many other texmex places in Kyle and Buda, don't waste your time or money here. read more

This was the worst horrible service! We waited almost 2 hours for food!! Then when partial food was brought out it was COLD!! Then when manager was approached she said well you guys are a big table and my husband said he understood but everyone else with big parties got there before us and got their food and left already. The manager then said well you getting a discount of 20% already and was RUDE! Then the waitress came to our table and said well if you guys don't want to wait you can leave it's fine. Just all around horrible service and will never be there again!!! read more

Me and my partner were just visiting because a friend was hosting an open mic nearby. We were drawn in by the colorful decor, but the front is undergoing some sort of maintenance because there was a whole section of the porch cordoned off. Once inside we were immediately served chips and salsa, which in my opinion need serious work like much of the menu, including the worn menus themselves and possibly wherever they are sourcing their ingredients. I ordered the Big Carls plate which came with your choice of a soft or hard taco, served with 2 beef enchiladas, rice, beans and guacamole. The guacamole was the only thing I would give some leeway to say was decent. My partner ordered a margarita, ceviche and a cheese enchilada. According to her everything tasted store bought, but I personally felt like that was giving it too much credit. The staff was very nice and attentive so if I gave credit to the one star anywhere that's what it would be for. The food is pictured. I don't feel like it's worth visiting if you want a nice eating experience but I'm sure once it starts getting late and the dive bar aspect of it kicks in then it isn't as bad if that's your scene. Not my cup of tea though. They should get fresher ingredients. Take some baby steps to improve like having actual hot sauce bottles, providing some form of cutlery and perhaps revamping the way certain dishes are prepared because the ceviche especially was surprisingly basic. I try not to be too harsh, but this was genuinely one of the least enjoyable experiences I've ever had food wise at a restaurant. Like sometimes you see a hole in the wall joint and think "wow that place must slap" but this unfortunately did not turn out to be one of those places. Oh and lastly, investing in a water filter would help as well because that water earned my "toilet water" award. Super gross. read more

Ok, I kinda like these guys. Not the busiest place in town, but I take grand delight in supporting the underdog. Colorful, Austin style vibe. Amiable but juvenile service. Not a problem, our server Dali was admittedly new but absolutely adorable. Hot and tasty table fare. With a little tweaking, they could easily propel into the limelight here. Keep charging, we'll be back to check on your progress. read more

Please don't eat here. A waist of money the food is not seasoned AT ALL!!!!! Will not be coming back. Taco Bell is better then this slop.

This place is so confusing. The decor is so cute and the margaritas are good, but it's seemingly run by high school kids and the food is so sub-par. The queso was terrible - it had an ok flavor, but the texture was so bad. It was like it had been reheated several times. My husband got ground beef tacos and many pieces of the beef were almost raw (yes, I'll update if he gets food poisoning). I got chicken quesadillas and while the chicken was very good, it was insanely greasy. Someone with experience flipping restaurants needs to buy this place and revamp the menu. Otherwise, we aren't coming back. I'm really disappointed to say this was a horrible experience. read more

WARNING Absolutely do not go to this restaurant! The outside is extremely appealing. Very chic, nice patio lights and seating until you walk inside. There is an abundance of seating and cute photo ops areas but the rest of the restaurant seems to have been forgotten about. It took awhile for a server to come and greet us to take our drink order and when she did she only took one of our orders and forgot about the other . Also the drink, food and brunch menu are on three different QR code's. 20 mins later after receiving the first drink, which tasted like too much sweet and sour poured over cheap tequila, we finally was able to order our food. At this point we are done with the poor service and ordered the ceviche to share and leave. It was good in theory but not executed correctly, I can tell they wanted it to be contemporary but the presentation was an epic fail. It tasted good once you swam through 75% guacamole. So we decide to use the restroom (see picture below) and it was HORRIFIC!! If you are into horrible service, half put together thoughts, nasty bathrooms and just a bad experience this place is for you!! read more

Ate an early dinner at 5 pm. Service was outstanding. Have both indoor and outdoor seating with a nice relaxing atmosphere. We had fajitas and coconut shrimp with a queso appetizer and one margarita for less than $ 40. The coconut shrimp and coconut margarita were outstanding, the fajitas had an excellent flavor but were a little tough and cut into too large of pieces. Hard to keep from them pulling out of the taco when you bit into it. The queso tastes great but was a bit too watery to stay on the chips from the bowl to your mouth. Real plates, paper napkins and metal utensils. I would recommend and will be back. read more

When you leave hot yoga what do you need the most? Margaritas of course!!! Okay the answer is not margaritas but it was this time. My friend and I were leaving hot yoga and came across this place due to their margarita sign from the outside. Advertising does work!! We went inside and asked if we could get a drink menu as we wanted to sit outside. It was a warmer day but we were already hot and gross from yoga so it worked out perfect. The waitress took our drink order and gave us complimentary chips and salsa. Neither one of us was hungry so we didn't order any food but we did munch a little on the chips and salsa. The chips were nothing special and the salsa was almost similar to marinara compared to salsa. Weird. The margaritas were pretty solid. I order the watermelon margarita and my friend ordered the coconut one. Both of them were frozen and delicious. I assume it was made from a mix and I probably could only drink 2 at most as the sugary sweetness would definitely get over powering. We did glance at the food menu and some of it sounded good. I notice they also serve breakfast. read more

Awesome food, drinks and service! We loved Destiny's service ! Good enchiladas, tacos , queso

Went on 10/5/2024 wife and i sat at the bar went to have a couple of drinks and food and to watch the MLB playoffs. i ordered a top shelf margarita on the rocks, it appeared that the only one allowed to make the drinks was the owner (I am assuming Esther). It was the WORST drink i have ever been served, all juice with 2 small cubes of ice. The tv at the bar had the Baylor football game, after i surveyed the room (there we only like 6 people there) and determined no one was watching the game i asked the owner if she would change the channel. She declined at first but a few minutes later she changed channel to MLB, once she saw it was baseball she said "no way I hate baseball" and put back to Baylor game. talk about terrible customer service she is the worst. We will never step in that place again!!! read more

This was my second time being here. So I have a good idea of why this place is 3 stars. 1. There was no music. The TV local news was on. Not ideal for date night. Kinda brought our energy down. 2. The "queso" just tasted like velveeta cheese. So we added some of the salsa to it to add flavor. 3. This place is trying to look cute. People would take more pictures if the tables weren't ORANGE. It's not appealing to the eye. It seems like they want to be Instagramable. But really the tables don't cut it. 4. The bathrooms were so dirty. Overall this place has potential. But they need to think some things through. A lot of things through. Food was good. Came out hot and ready. Drinks were AMAZING as well. Which is why I gave them 3 stars instead of 2. read more

Esther's was our second stop because our favorite Tex Mex restaurant had a long wait. Unfortunately, we should have waited for our favorite. The service at Esther's was pretty good, but the waitress initially gave incorrect information about several menu items. The food tastes like it's cooked without seasonings, which is totally different than I am used to at any other Tex Mex restaurant. I'm not much for salt, but had to add it. My husband and son got the flauta plate. The 3 flautas were no more than 3-4 inches long and seemed more like an apetizer than entree, the refried beans were watery and the rice was bland. The plates were a big disappointment for a meal that cost $11.99. My daughter got 3 crispy tacos and said they had little taste. I got spinach and mushroom enchiladas and think I got the best meal of all, but as mentioned earlier, I had to add salt to everything to give it more taste. We probably won't be back. read more

Multiple tries, multiple fails. We've eaten here before and we're underwhelmed. We tried it again and are completely dissatisfied with the quality of cooking. There is a reason why the reviews of this place are so low. The food is definitely "sub par". I will also agree that you are better off going to get Mexican food elsewhere. The only good thing about this place are the wait staff. They are friendly and attentive. That is where it goes down hill from there. The fajita enchiladas were on flour tortillas. I can understand if you are trying to make a taco or something smothered. If you are going to make an enchilada, put it on corn. The tortillas were not even homemade. The fajita meat was very small. It has somewhat of a good favor. I had hoped to have bitter pieces of meat. I could not figure out what was going on with the queso. I had a strange "aftertaste" to it. The beans did not taste homemade. They tasted like they had come from a can. I did order a burger for my kid, which I figured they could not mess up. Overall, this place is a little overpriced for a Mexican food restaurant. The food is mediocre at best. If you have low expectations, this place is for you. This was not the first time I had been to this place. I knew there was a reason why it had been years since the last time I was there. I know why now. I will agree with a previous reviewer that gas station Mexican food is way better than Esthers. read more
