    Queso

Surprised as we knew this was a chain and not your mom pop authentic Mexican. Came for happy hour and grabbed a seat (3-6) at the bar. Drinks are strong (no complaints here!) Orderedd off the HH menu and the catfish beignets did not disappoint! Flakey, perfect crust that isn't too thick! Gringo tacos...suits the name. Queso is a great started, smokey flavors!

This visit was such a mix of high and lows. The trio chips had a really good queso but a bland guacamole. It is a super large app ... the table can share! Enjoyed the table cornbread .. it was a change of pace and a good flavor. The Mexican martini is their signature, yet they use a mix for the base and the tequila was lost in it. The chicken avocado sandwich was really complex with bacon, avocado, pico, spicy mayo, onions, lettuce, tomato and pickles. I felt like the basics without the garden add would have been enough, yet I did like it. A truly grilled chicken breast was a pleasant surprise. The service was nice but pushy for all the items .. apps, drinks and desserts. I did not care for the added drama to lunch.

The menu is classic, short, and simple. It's only two pages and the black cover and white pages, makes the menu bright white and easy to read. The server came a few seconds after we sat down and asked if we needed any assistance with the menu. I asked about their chicken avocado sandwich as well as their Z's burger. Ended up getting both, the Z's burger and Avocado sandwich! Awesome service and plenty of space to accommodate any larger or small party. Cons- Both the chicken sandwich and Z's burger came out a bit cold. The fries were hotter than the actual meats! We informed the waiter and he took both plates. About 6-8 minutes later, we received our plates with both meat as hot as they should've been. Besides the cold meats, the food was great and our server was attentive to our food and drinks.

I've been here twice and had a slightly different experience each time. First, both times the food was excellent. The ahi tuna salad was scrumptious. The Chorizo stuffed pork Tenderloin was nice and spicy. My friend loved her fish tacos. And my husband said the bacon cheese fries were the best he's ever had. The first time I visited, we sat at a table. The server recommended a cocktail that wasn't on the menu. I had it and it was really good. But getting drinks took forever. Our server was trying but they simply weren't coming out of the bar. And the restaurant wasn't busy so there was no excuse for that. The second time I decided to sit at the bar. I hoped it would help with drink service. Drink service was faster than it had been at a table, but it was still difficult at times to get either of the bartenders attention. From my view at the bar I was able to identify the problem. The bartenders were playing on their phones almost constantly. Not professional. I'd recommend the managers address this issue. Drinks coming out slow affects your bottom line. And I don't want to see this potentially great place fail.

Yucca fries...like big french fries...very tasty!

Such an enjoyable evening! I met a friend here to catch up, and happy hour was wonderful! Ernesto was the PERFECT server... professional, accommodating, there when we needed him but not a helicopter. He guided us to delicious choices on the food and drink menu. I look forward to returning!

I was excited to get a $10 off 2 entrees birthday coupon for being a member in the reward program. I recommend visiting this establishment for happy hour because they have some really good options, but was not impressed with my food outside of that time frame. In my opinion, the value and pricing does not match my expectations. The meal started off with some complementary cornbread which was very tasty but is the serving size is for one person and we were a party of two. I had the salmon with grilled veggies. The salmon had a garlic butter sauce that was a bit too buttery and I didn't care for the flavors of the veggies. Also my salmon was overcooked and had a burnt flavor due to the char marks from the grill. Our order also included the Santa fee enchiladas and my friend asked if he could get an egg added and the waitress said his request could not be accommodated. The waitress seemed somewhat annoyed with our inquiries and just had an overall bad vibe with the experience.

This is a large establishment that is capable of fitting large parties. The chefs are experimenting with their unique twist to my typical Mexican or Texan food. Don't go here and assume this is what Mexican food tastes like. Is the food edible? Yes. I will begin by describing my tortilla soup. It tasted great, for mole sauce rather than tortilla soup. It was the taste, consistency, and color of mole. It had very little shredded chicken. The beef fajitas were not as tender as we' d like them to be; however, they had good flavor. The presentation of all the dishes was superb. The server went the extra mile to ensure that our large party was comfortable, satisfied, and content. Will we come back? No.

Amazing happy hour deals! We arrived around 3/3:30 for a small appetizer and drinks. The yuca fires are unique but not my favorite item, if you are feeling curious try them why not! The margaritas here are awesome for the $6 price! Would recommend to all Margarita happy hour lovers! First one down and we were feeling so happy go lucky! Server was laid back and very friendly. Ambiance gets loud around 6pm after work time, expect loud conversations but also good music entertainment for a Friday night. Reccomend going around 4/5 for the best possible atmosphere. Enjoy!

Great modern ambience in Kyle. We definitely needed a place like this! A few comments I did have was their chaotic check in process (especially if you don't have a reservation). There were multiple people that went ahead of the line even if they too didn't have a reservation. We ended up getting a reservation while waiting (and surprise surprise we got seated right away). My recommendation is to always sign up for a reservation because their check in process is chaotic for those without a reservation. The food was good but they were backed up in the kitchen during the Friday night we had dined. The food was good but not something remarkable. They had barbacoa street tacos but didn't serve any salsa with it. The beef barbacoa was not tender. The corn bread was a nice touch as their complementary bread. The overall meal and experience was "alright". We would probably come back and visit during a non Friday evening. That is to give it another analysis on experience. But this particular meal...overall it was just ok. A great place for drinks and appetizers with friends. Not a place to dine specifically for main entrees.

To be perfectly honest I had no idea what Z-Tejas was when it just finished being built. I drove by several times thinking well that's jewelry store of something of the like. Not giving it much more thought, my girlfriend and I were out and about and decided to stop by as she said it was a restaurant. Well, game on! Located right off I-35 with plenty of parking in a very safe spot Z-Tejas is worth the time to drop by for tasty and creative beverages or really good Tex Mex with flair. Opening the huge door which I thought was going to be extremely heavy, yet it was perfectly balanced thus I knew this was going to be a great experience. For those who're reading, yes, I did compliment a door design.... Walking in the place has tall ceilings thus a higher decibel tolerance in terms of hearing a conversation. The floor plan is wide open with "garage doors" open to a deck area and various fireplaces sprinkled about. The tables are comfy and the bar is smack tab in the middle with all it's adult beverage majesty and big tv screens above the alcohol as well as on the walls. I do have questions about the huge and interesting mural but that's another topic. My waiter was awesome; he knew the menu backwards and forwards offering great suggestions and substitutions. For example, he said he would know what level of heat to recommend to us after we ate the salsa. He was phenomenal and really did set the table, pun intended, of great things to come. Now, I'm not a big day time drinker however my girlfriend got a cocktail and went on and on how great it was in terms of balance with tropical fruits and alcohol levels. Our chips and salsa were perfect and I believe I saw some charring of the tomatoes. Moreover, I can't eat spicy food for health reasons so I was happy I could indulge in America's favorite condiment with perfectly crispy chips that gave me a salty kiss. Now I don't dig on queso dip very much but this version was outstanding as it wasn't like that Velveeta crap a lot of restaurants pass off as dip but a good cheese blend. Moreover, there chipotle adobo offered such a perfect earthy but tolerable heat I found myself "double dipping", but hey if my female friend can kiss me, she can deal with my used chip going for another skinny dip in the gooey cheese. They said it has Pico de Gallo but it's just a sprinkle; not an issue just a note. Finally the cornbread was an unexpected but lovely addition. It's pretty basic, but hey, I'm from Charleston SC so I'm not complaining and at it up with a bunch of the butter. For the main course, the lady ordered the shrimp ceviche. It was an extremely light and refreshing dish with a barley discernable note of heat. The citrus perfectly macerated (to cook without heat but with acid, hence how ceviche is "cooked") shrimp. The avocado mango relish provided a sharp sweetness and a soft creamy texture to balance the crunch and dull heat of the pickled red onions. The cilantro pesto was fresh, habanero and tomato played their backup parts beautifully. As for my dish I ordered the mushroom enchiladas. As I was making my order, my waiter suggested adding in chicken and spinach and so I figured it was time to negotiate. I retorted with shrimp and spinach? My waiter was all over it, complimenting me on my desires. This is a prime example of being extremely customer oriented and I "ate it all up," pun intended. The corn tortillas were perfectly cooked but gave way to the earthy mushrooms and I believe my shrimp provided a good resistance to the mouth as I chewed. The mole which a stable of central American cooking comprising of over 30 intricate ingredients were balanced and elevated the dish to levels that brought a tear to my eye. The Mango relish was as I previously stated while the sour cream really brought the dish together. I don't dig on beans but my girlfriend ate roughly 5 bites so that's a good sign. That said the rice was phenomenal as it wasn't a traditional red rice with a dominate lard flavor from being sautéed yet more grounded as it tasted like it was cooked in a mushroom stock. Be prepared it's a great interpretation of the staple of the Mexican themed experience. Overall, I was blown away by my experience b/c to quote Simon Cowell from America's Got Talent, "I wasn't expecting that." The atmosphere, the waiter, the adult beverages and the food, everything worked in harmony to provide an upscale adventure at a modest cost. If you want to step out of the traditional Tex Mex faire and "live a little," I invite you to run over there and get a table, now. Why are you still reading, go get a table!

Shrimp tostadas- hands down best app on the menu

Love this place. Their happy hour makes it addicting. $5 house margaritas and reduced price on select apps. I've always been seated quickly and served immediately. The food is quick to come out and is fabulous! You start with this cute baby cast iron skillet of cornbread with butter and the meal progresses from there. The shrimp tostada app is my absolute favorite appetizer.

Since it was this new and poppin' restaurant on East Cesar Chavez from the team behind De Nada, we had over an hour wait that we didn't take up. Its vibe intrigued me, and I think Cajun food is top five like Tatum with a cut. I decided to prepare only slightly this time. While getting dinner with a friend, we were discussing places when I suggested Lil' Easy. I threw a reservation down for an hour later at one of their numerous dining options. Upon arrival, parking at that little strip of restaurants on East Cesar Chavez is a bit treacherous. If you're not afraid of getting your steps in at 6 pm on a Friday, don't sweat it. Anyone else, good luck. There are a lot of different seating arrangements at Lil' Easy: the true outdoor patio with fans and umbrellas, the climate-controlled outdoor space that still brings the sun while still pumping A/C, and the traditional indoor space. Plenty of seating. The entire place was decorated with Mardi Gras beads and colors. Off the rip, we had to set the tone: I ordered a Pimm's Cup while my friend got some secret frozen swirl. We had to throw down an order of the Crawfish Queso as well. The food and drinks were served so quickly, we questioned if it was ours. The queso was De Nada's signature queso with Crawfish Étouffée mixed in. There are no tortilla chips on the side, but instead toasted bread. It's kinda like a DIY Crostini. The crawfish's flavor is a unique and savory balance to the cheesiness of the queso. Very delightful. We crushed it. My friend wanted to go wild. Another appetizer?? Their Shrimp Cocktail was thrown down immediately after ordering. The shrimp was great, but those house pickles were sneakily one of the best things they served us. Living the high life. Speaking of that, I ordered a High Life Pony as we made our main orders: a Fried Catfish Po'Boy and Fried Oyster Po'Boy. Both cut down the middle so we could have a little this, a little that. I think the bread, the catfish and the oysters, and the fries served alongside it were all incredible. My only issue was that the catfish po'boy had horseradish in it. That is a me issue, and I don't know why I can't stand horseradish. I don't know if it was hiding in their coleslaw or their rémoulade, but something was horseradish-y! I'd get the oyster po'boy again and again though! We closed the night with me being fun as I ordered their Frozen Espresso Martini with sprinkles and whipped cream because some other lady sitting nearby had that, and I WANTED TO BE FUN TOO. My friend got herself the seasonal nonalcoholic Arnold Palmer that was spiked with some Deep Eddy Lemon Vodka. Hers was great, but mine was basically a milkshake. I looked like a joyous kid with my drink. I was so very happy. They do give you lids for your drinks if you want to take them with you, but I planned to finish mine then and there. The gimme cups are also a nice touch and have their cute alligator mascot on them. Throughout the night, we could not believe how fast the service was at getting our meals and our drinks to us. Our waitress was absolutely on point the entire time we were there, constantly checking in on us and being extremely friendly and helpful in making sure we chose the right things and had a good meal ahead of us. Lil' Easy is casual, fun, and absolutely delicious. They have some of the best frozens in Austin, and their food is some of the best seafood and Cajun food I've had in Austin, hands down. When we arrived, we sat outside since it was such a nice day. There was plenty of seating and it was a Sunday where they were having a crawfish boil. The service was nice. The waitress is very helpful and nice. I came here because I kept hearing good things about the crawfish. I have to say the crawfish was OK. There is nothing amazing about it, but it was good. I will say the corn and the onion were beyond spicy, but that was a nice kick. We also got the oysters. I have to say that the oysters were delicious so I give them that. The gumball was definitely missing a lot of flavor. It was it that good. The deviled eggs were mediocre and nothing special to them. We also got a meat. Patty empanada kind of deal and that was OK. It was a little overly greasy. And for dessert, we got the banana rum cake, which I have to say was nice but again nothing special. As for drinks, they had quite a variation. One of us got the espresso martini, which was OK. It was too sweet for my taste. And then I got the spritz which was nice. It's very hard to mess up a spritz. Not sure I would've come back just because the food was OK if I did come back, it would be for the oysters cause I do say that was really good for them.

We were excited to try the food, and were hungry. Our server appeared (I can't remember his name but he was a short guy with blond hair). I ordered a cocktail and my husband ordered beer to begin with. He went away and then came back asking my husband if he wanted some whiskey cocktail, and we corrected him that we had asked for a particular beer. No big deal. We then ordered the deviled eggs and shishito peppers, and the red fish and short ribs for entree. A lady brought us the drinks, and the deviled eggs. Our server swung by and then disappeared. We thought the shishito peppers were on their way. We waited for what seemed like a really long time and still no shishito peppers. We also noticed that each table had a carafe of water except ours. We were just given water once, and then our server never bothered to fill the water up. Anyway, we kept waiting since there was no sign of the server. At this point, we felt he might have forgotten the second appetizer and we just did not want it, but he was nowhere to be found. A man (not our server) brought out our entrees. We then told him that we had been waiting for our second appetizer and would just want to cancel it. We asked if we could get the biscuits instead. He brought out the biscuits within a few minutes. Now this is where it really annoyed us. Had our server just come over and said he had forgotten our shishito peppers, it would have been okay. Human. What he tried was act smart and dropped by saying the shishito peppers would be out to which we said that we didn't want an appetizer after an entree and had cancelled it. I almost felt like he was treating us as if he thought we don't really dine out or whatever and he could just make fools of us. This really didn't sit right with me. We asked him for water and he filled it up left. The food was above average. The short ribs were good but my red fish had been hammered! The biscuits were good. The deviled eggs were good as well. Anyway, we finished our meal, and got the check, paid, and were waiting to finish our drinks. The receipt was on our table. Also, note, it was not a particularly busy day with several empty tables. What our server did next was absolutely unacceptable. I think he wanted to see if we had tipped him after his awful service. We did, but not 20% as we always do because of the soddy job he did, not to mention his attitude. We paid 15% which I think was more than what he deserved now. Out of nowhere, and mind you, after being absent for long periods before, he just came by, grabbed the paid up bill from our table to our shock, while we were still sitting and talking, looked at the bill, turned towards us, and muttered something angry under his breath and walked away. I have never seen this level of entitlement and bad behavior. We left right away. We had been really looking forward to this meal but I would not want to go back. The food was good, but not great, and I would not want to put up with such obnoxious behavior as a paying customer.
