We stopped in for lunch and it didn't disappoint. This is by far the most upscale dining in Kyle TX and the most expensive. The atmosphere is modern and trendy. The restaurant has a nice open bar with tvs above so you can watch whatever sport you're in to. I had the steak fajitas sizzling in an iron skillet., The steak was slightly overcooked in my opinion, it also could be that I didn't eat it fast enough and continued sizzling in the iron. My plate also came with like, onions, red peppers, and a giant roasted jalapeño along with cheese, a guacamole sauce, lettuce, tomatoes and beans and rice. My wife got an amazing meatloaf dish with veggies and mashed potatoes. The meatloaf has an incredible Korean style chipotle sauce. Their sweet tea is also on point for being in the south. We had a knowledgeable waitresses that made some great recommendations and was prompt with service. For desert, we had the cheesecake topped with chocolate sauce and strawberries. The ambience is definitely worth taking visitors to for a nice relaxing dining experience. read more

My wife and I were in a mood for something different and we never been to Z-Tejas before. We had heard some good word of mouth compliments for the service and food, so we decided why not. After it had first opened, l had read some mixed reviews from diners. Some were not favorable but others defended the restaurant, so l was a little leary and now wished I had listened to my instinct. The place was beautiful and the atmosphere was warm and delightful especially with the 2 open fire pits giving off a warm and inviting glow. Our waiter (sorry l forgot his name) met us at the door and promptly sat us. His mannerism was fantastic ( only reason l gave 2 stars) . He was very attentive but not pushy. He made suggestions for the beverages and appetizer. The tea was tasty, the Queso and chips were mediocre. The cheese was thick, clumpy and grainy. The adobo sauce was overly sweet. The cheese was burnt on top around the edges giving the overly concoction a bitter taste. The corn bread was hard (over cooked) cold. My wife ordered the grilled Salmon classic style (their words) and I had the Chicken Tinga Chili Renano. Like I said the waiter was very attentive constantly refilling our teas, so off the the men's room. After spending thousands on the creation of a great atmosphere, the restroom was under- whelming. The pipes looked cheep and not well installed showing signs of rust already and one of the wash basins had a broken water spigot being held up by a very dirty looking bottle of something. My wife's grilled salmon had very little flavor except for the flavor given off from a less than fresh piece of fish. My dish was also undesirable with the chicken being very sweet to point l couldn't taste chicken. The filling looked like chicken salad (overly blended with the pineapple, raisins and pecan). I could not distinguish any of the ingredients from the mush that comprised the filling. Well we tried something new, not really happy that we did, but the waiter made our visit pleasant, sorry I can't say the same for the food. read more

Overall disappointment The building is new, very trendy and cool. Open air with lots of TVs and a huge bar. The physical menus are very cool with backlighting. But that was basically the end of the good part Had the house margarita which is a happy hour special. Very bland and not worth even the HH price. Salmon entree looked promising but was delivered basically raw. Sent it back. Not sure what they did but it was returned in the same exact condition but warmed through. Could have been microwaved? Meatloaf was literally drowning in Japanese style BBQ sauce that flooded the plate. It was apparently pre-cooked well in advance and tossed onto the flat top to carmelize. But the center was still cold. While they claim it's made with chorizo I sure could not tell. Mixed veggies side was very undercooked. Mashed potatoes are very good Ironically, the service was great. Our waiter was attentive and apologetic. But the kitchen is lacking any sort of quality control. And the place was only 70% full on a Friday evening. Prices were high for such mediocre food. Z'Tejas gets five stars from me for the mural alone--it sparks conversation and evokes emotion, exactly what art is meant to do. Some may find it controversial, but that's their personal interpretation. For me, it adds to the ambiance in a bold and vibrant way, making the space feel more dynamic and expressive. Whether you love it or not, it certainly makes an impact. Now, onto the food and drinks... yikes. The margaritas taste like lime Kool-Aid, the queso is bland and lumpy (pretty sure I got a clump of flour in mine), and when I asked for salsa to make up for it, I got a trio of tomato-based toppings--each one worse than the last. The "Buffalo chicken tenders" tasted more like Thai chili buffalo tenders, which was not what I signed up for. Why is everything so sweet?! Whoever is running the menu needs to take a step back and let someone else take over because this is exactly why Z'Tejas failed in Austin. Now they're trying to pull a fast one on the suburbs, but people will catch on. If you want to survive, do better. 5 stars to offset the biggots, but 1 star for food. read more

Everything on the menu has been wonderful! So far we have tried the snapper, the mushroom enchiladas, the pasta diablo, and the puffy taco; all have been excellent. Chris, the manager, is a complete rockstar and has managed to turn what started as a yucky experience (we went shortly after they opened for the brunch buffet and were underwhelmed, to say the least) into incredible subsequent experiences. Really small overly fried pieces of fish. Cole slaw was flavorless. Maybe the chef needs to taste his dishes to realize what he's serving. Vibe was wide open and airy, lots of natural light and high ceilings. Service: we were there for an early dinner 4:30p time frame on a Sunday. The place was maybe 1/4-1/3 full, sat at the bar, 2 bartenders working we were 2 of maybe 6-8 total folks at the 40/50+ person bar top. Service was nice enough but nothing above and beyond. Had to ask to place food orders multiple times, did not clear our dirty app plates before air food came out or after our food arrived. First round of rolled silverware was missing forks and had dirty knives. Food: got the Texas dip trio, it was tasty we were off to a good start.... Entrees got the fish tacos and the fired snapper dish. Fish tacos, were tasty. Snapper per the hubby was enjoyable, I did not care for it, it was way too rubbery and over cooked IMO. The streamed broccoli and carrots served were bland and over cooked/ dry/ old. Not even 30 min after departing, I immediately started feeling awful. I have food poisoning. Used to like Z'Tejas in Austin, so was excited to see it opening in Kyle. One of our favorite appetizers was the Queso, ordered some here and looked similar, however they evidently didn't know it's supposed to be served hot or at least warm ;) Breakfast buffet was $25 a person, good selection and tasty. Guest service was okay, not what you'd expect for price points on menu. Given they just opened will give them some time and revisit, sure hope service levels improve. read more

Waited for tortillas-waited & waited. Chorizo egg was tasty.. We never received our cornbread - like other tables- - waiter was sub par. Kept having to ask for a refills. Very loud establishment-speakers were blaring but there is nothing to absorb the sound. Everything echoed Chorizo gravy was good -BUT they ran out & never brought anymore out! Like so many others, I really wanted to like this place but after two visits, it's just extremely mediocre. Drinks are all over priced, but $7 for a Modelo? I was in shock. I ordered the nachos as an app and they came out chewy, nachos should be crispy y'all, come on. For dessert I ordered the peach cobbler and it lacked any sugar or sweetness, and the "cobbler" crust was undercooked. $10 for one of the worst deserts I've eaten. Even their fresh baked cornbread doesn't taste any better than jiffy cornbread mix. I wouldn't recommend this place to a friend after this second visit. They're trying for high end, but it just fails on so many marks. Torchy's is right next door and I'd recommend them instead. read more

Went here at the request of my daughter knowing some poor ratings were out there. We had 5 in our party and all were completely satisfied with the decor, the outstanding service and each meal was very good. 2 had barbacoa enchiladas, 1 steak, 1 fajitas and a chicken dish (forgot the name). Drinks were superb and the cheesecake dessert disappeared quickly. I would not hesitate to go back. Some of the staff was from the original restaurant location which also was special. My wife and I were initially surprised that there was ample seating available during peak dining hours on Saturday evening. By the end of our dining experience we understood why. Disappointment is an inadequate adjective to describe our experience. We were quickly seated by the hostess but had to wait a very long time before waitstaff came to our table, and they only came after I flagged someone down to do so. It's not because there was inadequate staff as there were many ambling around the floor with some using their cell phones. It is a beautiful and well appointed restaurant, but the noise level, despite many open tables and ample seating at the bar, made it impossible to carry on a conversation. We started with Margaritas at $9 each. They were good. We also had queso which was overpriced at $14 with a less than average flavor profile. My main dish was Hatch Barbacoa Chili Relleno. It was terrible, with an unidentifiable flavor that made it inedible. I love good Chile Relleno. This was not, and at $26 for the plate with only rice and beans it was terribly overpriced. However, my wife's dish of fried red snapper with a crab stuffing, vegetables and rice was good. At $25, we both considered it good and reasonably priced. OVERALL: Noisy, overpriced, disappointing food and terrible service. As I stated earlier, I now know why the restaurant had ample seating. Will we ever go back?.......definitely not. read more

My family went here to celebrate my uncles 76th birthday. We had a group of 12 people. It took two hours for our food to come out and it didn't come out all together. Three meals came out first then about 45 minutes later a few more meals came out. At that point the chef came to our table and said they were out of chili's for the rellanos one of us had ordered and to pick something else. My uncles meal came last and most everyone was done eating. The drinks weren't worth the price and the food wasn't worth the hour and half drive and the long wait to get it. This was much a disaster. First of all we walked in and we were asked if we had a reservation. There were 6 tables that had diners. Umm ok. So we sat and ordered a Margarita. Maybe me came with stuff floating in it. Red particles too. So they brought me another. Bartender obviously just poured into another glass. Same stuff floating in it. The waitress took our order and I specifically asked her NO Rice. I actually requested it again. Rice really disgustes me. She brought our food and there was rice. No offer to return it for me. I did not eat even 1/3 because of that. We never saw our server again, we sat there for 20 minutes. We had to track her down for our check. We had hopes for this place. Unfortunately we will not return. The manager did remove the Margaritas, even though my Husband's was fine. We appreciated that. read more

Before ordering, the server I had mentioned they were backed up in the kitchen, and asked us if we preferred to wait a little longer for food tonight. Maybe 15 minutes later, we were served our food. I have been to this location twice now. This last time, really sealed the deal for me. It's an expensive place and one would expect better quality of food being served. I ordered grilled salmon filet, with rice and sauteed green beans, I asked for the salmon to be cooked, well, which in this case, was a mistake. I asked if it was a thick cut filet and the waitress said it was, but it wasn't after all. It was quite done, and a bit hard, but for $24.00, I wasn't going to leave any behind. On to the rice, which was not totally cooked, crunchy was it's name. The green beans were so salty. The manager came over and I told him about the food, and he asked if I wanted anything other than the crunchy rice, I replied no. So he comped $3.00 off the bill for the rice side dish.
