We really enjoy Taste on Main and always look forward to coming back. I've sat both inside and outside, but my favorite spot is the back deck surrounded by the huge trees. It's such a lovely setting. The quality of the food is consistently where it should be. My favorite dish so far is the clams, which come with wonderfully toasted bread that is perfect for soaking up the broth. The mac and cheese is also deliciously rich and really hits the spot, and I love the cobbler. There are just a few things I'd tweak. The chips don't seem to be made in-house, and I find the salsa a little too spicy. The crab cake is a generous size and tastes very fresh, but I'd personally love to see it served with a crisp breading and some simple salad greens alongside it. I also tried the bone marrow and found the texture much looser and more gelatinous than I prefer. I've had bone marrow elsewhere with a firmer, more pâté-like consistency that was easier and more enjoyable to spread on bread, so that preparation is more to my taste. The service has always been excellent, and I really appreciate that they offer a small mocktail menu. My husband loves a great Bloody Mary, and theirs has good potential, but we both find the drink itself a little too watered down. We'd love to see it served a bit richer and more full-bodied. We still haven't worked our way through the entire menu, but my husband has had some excellent cuts of meat and also really enjoyed the mole. There is still plenty we want to try, which is always a good sign. Great food, consistently good service, and one of my favorite outdoor dining settings in the area. The resturant has a romantic date feel to it and the artwork is nice. The bar looked well stocked also. They have a large TV in the corner in case you need the game score also. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our waitress explained everything and answered our questions. They just changed their menu and it is small. We started with the sourdough bread as an appetizer, and it was delicious! I had the butchers cut steak and the green beans. It was cooked perfectly and was tasty. I could have used a little more butter because it gave the meat a kick. They let me taste the 2 sauces that you could add to your steak but it was not worth it. They didn't add any flavor. Hubby had the salmon and he enjoyed it. It was small but he was full after he ate it, the bread, green beans and zucchini that came with it. Overall it was not bad. I'd recommend that they not charge for everything, including sauces. Also, they should add some additional sides like baked potatoes or mashed potatoes, broccoli, etc. read more

I love Taste on Main, but I think the shift to an Italian focused menu is a mistake. We normally go for brunch but went for dinner last weekend. I ordered the pork chop and others at my table wanted it as well - the waiter informed us that there was only one left and they were taking it off the menu. The other person who wanted one got the chicken Parmesan, which was an overwhelming amount of chicken with nothing else on the plate. It wasn't great. The pork chop was exquisite. Disappointingly, after we finished eating, the waiter told us that they weren't actually out of pork chops and he found out after putting the order in - why wouldn't he come out and tell us?! During my second visit to Taste on Main, I ordered the oysters. I tried one of each variety and they were all delicious, very hight quality. For my meal I tried the biscuit and gravy which is topped with an egg to add great flavor to the dish. The biscuit was huge, I couldn't finish it all. Even-though they can get busy on the weekends, the service is always good and during this visit, our server was very attentive with frequent drink refills. We enjoyed some house-made sourdough bread topped with bone marrow and fresh herbs, which made a flavorful spread for the beautiful bread. Our shrimp scampi with sautéed green beans was outstanding--cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. I hardly ever eat shrimp, but this dish truly impressed me. The green beans were equally delicious and well-seasoned. If I could, I'd order those three dishes every day! We also tried the chili Colorado braised beef. My dinner partner mentioned it's one of his favorites, though when it arrived, it didn't quite taste like it usually does. Both of us tried it and found it lacked flavor, so I asked for hot sauce and salt to liven it up. The staff kindly suggested we try a different dish, so we went with the blackened pork chop. That turned out to be a much better choice--succulent, tender, and perfectly seasoned, resting on a lovely bed of peach sauce. The manager explained it was a new menu, and we appreciated their patience as they get used to the new recipes. My Sicilian friend, who loves good Italian food, also frequents this place regularly and always finds something to enjoy. read more

So I typically come here for a drink and a crème brûlée it's not really a crème brûlée custard and today was the absolute worst. The berries were so frozen crème look and tasted like it was just thrown together and 30 seconds. It's gotten worse every month. I think I am done coming here. read more

2026 UPDATE: As a frequent visitor I'm always excited to dine at Taste because they're consistently wonderful with food quality and service but that's all in the past. I returned last night to find a 180 flip in menu, dinning experience, and overall satisfaction. This unexplained change has not landed, I'm truly disappointed in this half baked idea of an 'Italian steakhouse' that feels empty. Taste on Main has always been a powerhouse steak and seafood spot, the best in town and always busy. For some reason they decided to take some star players off the menu like the Mushroom pasta and NY strip chicken fried steak and replace them with a warped carbonara offering (poached egg, heavy cream??) a lemon pasta that wasn't balanced, a chicken Parmesan served a la carte (but you can add plain noodles for $8). The Bolognese was... interesting it gave more of a beef stroganoff or taco meat and noodles flavor and the Scampi, well you see the photo it's just butterflied steamed shrimp with no flavor. Out for 6 people at my table one the the one burger meal was a hit. Everything else was a total miss. Presentation was flat, flavors one note, and the service was chaos (and that rarely happens here ). I'm happy to say the oysters and burger are staying (for now as far as they told me) so the burger has now become the best thing on the menu and I hope they don't change it from the smash patties, I saw someone's and the patties looks a little large. Our server shared there was no context given other than they wanted to lean on the chefs skills of Italian food and handmade pasta. Which, is concerning because based on what we had last night, this is not Italian chef skills, this is amateur microwave meal level. As they say, it it ain't broke...I hope things change for the better, ideally I'd love the previous menu and dedicated service (even the waters were empty and of you know Taste that's never the case) to return but it's not my decision. Hopefully the feedback is taken seriously, the Taste on Main prior to this Italian steakhouse was excellent and working well. Currently, I'm not certain I have the urge to try again when they stabilize this mixed menu. As far as the interior the restaurant looks the same, other than some odd lighting dimming up and down throughout the night, the aesthetics are still lovely. read more

We made last minutes reservations for a Saturday date night. Yes, it was an Early 5:30 reservation, don't judge. Lol. The young ladies at the hostess stand outside were so pleasant and had us seated rather quickly. This is a smaller indoor space, but there is seating outside on a patio. The inside had a nice ambience. Our server greeted us and went over the menu as this was our first, but not last visit we will make. Got our drinks and appetizers quickly and placed our order for dinner. There was not a long wait for the entrees after the delicious appetizer. We stopped by Taste on Main for drinks while in the area after loving their bites at previous events, and it happened to be happy hour. We had seen a big crowd outside, so wasn't sure if we'd have to wait, but were able to be seated right away. The atmosphere was relaxed and inviting, especially in the "tree house" section of the patio, which is essentially a deck built into the trees. They had a little "bar" decking that we sat at under the trees. Courtney was our server and was friendly, attentive, and made the experience easy and enjoyable. We didn't plan on eating, but were dying to try some of their small plates that they had on their happy hour menu. The items we got were literally like two bites, but packed a punch in flavor and a great way to try a little of everything should you decide. The bites came out super quick and obviously disappeared into our belly that much quicker. We ordered the short rib flauta: crispy with incredibly tender, flavorful meat, and the single pork rib: fell right off the bone and gochujang bbq sauce was a fun spin. The house margarita was solid, but the Pedro Pascual was the standout and would totally get again! Great service, great drinks, and a laid-back vibe. This was our first visit and we chose to sit outside on their patio, mid day. It was very pleasant as was our server. He was funny and patient as we had lots of questions, being first timers. It was also happy hour. They had a nice selection of drinks and bites and we had a really nice time. We will be back, but this time we will try indoor dining! Wow...what a difference a menu change makes! My husband and I weren't big fans of the original menu. So, when we heard they'd switched up to an Italian forward menu we were intrigued. It did not disappoint! The meatballs were housemade and had a little kick. The focaccia bread was crispy and served with a side of roasted garlic cloves in olive oil and a side of room temperature butter. I got the Spaghetti Pomodoro which was good, although the sauce was a little thicker than I'm used to for a Pomodoro. My husband got the Lemon-Ricotta filled Agnolotti with butternut squash, spinach, mushrooms, and calabrian chilies. It too was really good. It wasn't as lemony as he thought it would be, but still, a very solid dish. Buda was desperate for a good Italian spot. We will definitely become regulars if they keep the change. read more

I must give an "A" for effort; however, I think we're trying too hard. The cocktail shrimps were just too large and too unfresh. The cocktail sauce had a strange taste of chipotle that didn't work. The remoulade was too much like mayonnaise. Needs a bit more sweetness. The too-done ribeye had too much seasoning, masking the beef flavor. The loaded mashed potatoes were a too-rich glop that was not well served by the candied bacon, which was an unpleasant surprise. I would go back to a baked potato. Please. Tried both salads and found them lacking. I was unable to identify the things that looked like corn flakes in the Caesar, which tasted a bit peculiar. The tossed salad was too sweet, and the giant blackberries were obviously meant to impress, but they were just a bit scary. The crème brûlée was good, but a tad too rich for our liking. Probably the best you can get around Buda for a proper restaurant with a brunch option. Went with a couple of friends on what was an unfortunately rainy day so we could not experience the balcony area. But unlike the pictures online, a good amount of greenery is around to keep the outdoor impression pleasant. As for food, some dishes are much better than I expected. Standout dishes were the carbonara gnocchi and the chilled beets. I could go back just for how refreshing the beets were! I would say every dish I had was pretty good, but I was underwhelmed by the crudo and the mushroom pasta was way too sweet. The service was also a bit..... awkward? Had a lot of awkward pauses or weird pacing between service. Ran out of water a decent amount. It definitely wasn't bad service but don't expect to feel like it's a special experience. This place is definitely not the "look cute with your girls" kind of spot, but a casual place with some good food. When I mentioned it to the server he said,something to the effect, "when there's a bad steak, someone has to get it & this time it was you." Great variety including fresh oysters, lobster Benedict, Po' boys & beignets! Champagne & juices. And much more. The staff were welcoming, accommodating & fun! I have no idea what happened to this place because it was a Saturday during restaurant week and completely dead inside. we completely forgot it was restaurant week and the server said nothing about it either. When we asked her, she then asked if we wanted to put in an order......after we were almost done with our main entree! We ordered the ribeye, chips and guac, Brussels sprouts. The Brussels sprouts were really good. The guac had absolutely no flavor and I was looking for the salt to add to it and I never add salt to my food. The ribeye was super tough and chewy. What a surprising find! I came for a "date" with my 5 year old after his dentist appointment, per direction of Yelp and the food did not disappoint! On weekend mornings, they have brunch and my son ordered the white chocolate chip pancakes ($14) with a side of fruit ($4). I ordered a side salad ($8) and the oysters ($3.5/each). They had a small variety of fresh oysters displayed in their oyster bar. The service was excellent. The hostess greeted us with a smile and seated us immediately. My family and I recently dined here and, unfortunately, the experience didn't match the high prices. While the atmosphere was cute and inviting, the food itself was disappointing. The pasta was overly salty and greasy, and the fish tacos were not enjoyable enough to finish. Service was also a bit lacking -- it took a while to get water refills even though the restaurant wasn't busy. The staff were friendly enough, but the overall presentation felt more casual than expected for a restaurant at this price point. We chose not to complain during the meal and still tipped well, but overall, it didn't feel worth the cost. We celebrated my birthday at Taste on Main and had the BEST time! Everything was amazing--from the service to the food to the little details. Our waitress suggested we try three different types of oysters for our dozen and it was such a fun experience (and delicious!). I also had to try the "Burt Reynolds" drink just for the bubbles--and it did not disappoint! I ordered the redfish and it was incredible, and they made the night so special with a booth (just like I requested), a complimentary crème brûlée with a candle, and even a birthday card signed by the staff. The atmosphere is exactly our style--upscale but relaxed, cozy, and not too loud. It was so nice to have this kind of experience close to home without going into Austin. We had such a great time celebrating with my kids--definitely a night to remember. We'll be back (next time for the butter cake )! read more

She explained everything in the menu for us gave us suggestions, which she was very knowledgeable in the ambience of the restaurant was very classy very nice. It was a good choice to spend New Year's Eve Dinner there. The food was amazing from the appetizers down to the dessert which I don't really eat, but I had a bite of it and it was amazing again thank you for the suggestion from the waitress Lee who helped us choose every piece of our food, everybody from the hostess to the bartenders waiters the people bringing out the food. My best friend took me to Taste on Main for my birthday dinner and we had such a lovely time! We sat outside on the treehouse patio and the weather was great and it's a very cute little seating area. They have a great happy hour and my friend ordered her double smash burger from that menu. She said it was very good. I had the bolognese and I was the perfect portion and it was pretty good!! Took a trip to Buda/S. Austin to visit friends for a belated birthday celebration and wound up at Taste on Main. We got in late so there was a wait, so reservations are recommended. While waiting, we grabbed a drink at the bar, and they make a great Old Fashioned. The weather was nice, so we sat outside. The have a very nice outdoor patio that is open, roomy and has its own outside bar and rest rooms. We started off with some appetizers: chips and quac, sour dough breadbasket w/pimento cheese spread. Both were tasty and I really liked the pimento spread. It's nice to see pimento making a comeback. For dinner I ordered the Masa crusted redfish and shared the following for the table: baked fusilli & cheese w/lobster, potatoes au gratin pave, roasted street corn, and crispy Brussel sprouts. The redfish was nice and flaky, and the masa crust was flavorful. All the sides were great and full of flavor to compliment the main dishes. Finally, decided to end the night with desert so we ordered the Strawberry-Rhubarb crisp. When it came out it was nice and warm and very delish. Overall, I'm glad we came here and plan on coming back when I'm in the area again. read more

We came back on a Wednesday and had a successful trip! We were seated immediately for our reservation by the hostess, which was nice. The food was all delicious! I got the Masa crusted redfish as an entree and it was money. My fiancé got the 14oz Wagyu Prime Rib Wednesday special, and she also very much enjoyed it. The side of Brussel sprouts was also good. As was the baby wedge salad. We also liked the mussels as an appetizer. And Josh did a great job as our server. It was another five star trip! read more
