    Chicken and dumplings

This is a local gem in downtown Buda with Cajun flare. We've been a couple of times. The first time I had the portabella sandwich, which was delicious. This time I had their chicken and dumplings which was a good home cooked choice. I had a hibiscus refresher to drink, perfect for the heat.

A new favorite spot for us to frequent now that we are near Buda. The staff was friendly, although somewhat absent minded with our orders. They made up for it with spot on quality food and drinks. They have an extensive drink menu and an above average beer listing, even if it didn't have anything for me. The restaurant has a nice vibe somewhere between sports bar and bistro.

First time visiting, and will not be our last! We got seated right away and our food came out quickly. Logan was our server and he was friendly, educated on the menu and gave great recommendations. Our food was 5 stars and the drinks were good too. I look forward to dining here again.

    Fried Shrimp and lobster bisque

Today is hubby's birthday so we tried something different. This has been on our list for a year so we thought it was a great place to celebrate. Note: most items are ala cart. We were greeted warmly by the hostess and sat in the front of the restaurant with a great view. Kennedy was our waitress and she was so helpful! After patiently answering all our questions and sharing her advice, hubby went with the alligator bites, braised short ribs, red beans and rice, and Brussels sprouts. I had the lobster bisque and fried shrimp. It was so good! The worst thing on our plates were my shrimp and they were good! If you want to celebrate and have a nice dinner, you must try it!

    Dr Pepper Braised Beef

We came here a few weeks ago for dinner. My fiancé got the Dr Pepper braised beef, which was very good. Definitely recommend that entree. I got the burger and fries which was alright. The crab stuffed avocado was solid quality wise, although I felt $18 for that and $17 for the lobster bisque was a little pricey. This is also in a solid location, in downtown historic Buda.

Christina was a fantastic waitress. The food was great the service was fast, great ambiance.

Great food, great staff, great service. Host was welcoming and our waitress was very attentive. Cute place that we'll definitely visit again!

Great little scratch kitchen in downtown Buda. They have a great selection of brunch items along with drinks! They made a delicious mocktail for me so I didn't feel left out. The food is marvelous (except the pancakes! Dry and flat, get anything else!!) and the service was spot on.

Good food, friendly service. They also had a decent selection of draft beers. I got the chicken fried chicken special and it was to die for.

Brunch was tasty; I enjoyed my loaded omelette which was a good size. We went right when it opened, so it wasn't too busy and we had a lovely server (Kennedy).

Everything was pretty delicious and the presentation was beautiful. The Catfish Beignets were perfectly crispy with a hint of sweetness, but nothing super special about them, just tasted like fried catfish to me. The Diablo Chicken Pasta was nice and saucy, but like the catfish beignets, was a bit bland so I needed some salt to up the flavors. The shrimp ceviche was very refreshing, delicious, and a solid appetizer that was packed with flavor. The Chicken Waffles was good as well. The chorizo gravy sauce that came with it, was different, but complimented the whole dish very well. Overall, the portion was a bit smaller than I'd like for the price that I paid, but the food was overall pretty delicious. Our server Michael was fantastic. Super fast, friendly, and very knowledgeable about the menu. A full bar, but didn't have Pina Coladas. Lots of tables and chairs to dine at. Clean restrooms and lots of parking. They have this huge fancy front door that threw me off a little lol.

Even then, i thought it was ok, especially for the price point. Stellar: First our server, Faith: she was super friendly, attentive and funny and made it a pleasant experience. Also, the shrimp tostada bites were killer - I could eat those all day. My wife's carajillo was perfect. OK: catfish beignets-the batter was well seasoned and crunchy, but it seemed like the actual fish needed seasoning as it was pretty bland. Grilled chicken sandwich was pretty bland too: the chicken was slightly dry and aside from the avocado, onion and tomato, there was not much flavor. Checked the buns to see if they were spread with an aoli but no, pretty dry. I thought Z Tejas was ok then and it's still ok and wouldn't be my first choice unless it's for happy hour where they have the shrimp tostadas on special.

And you will get traditional homestyle cooking that just can't be beat! * * * Samuel C now temporarily turns from food reviewer to Special Reporter for the Yelp Restaurant Business Report. Many of the changes both bad and good at Cracker Barrel were well covered in the Hospitality Industry Trade Press. The CEO who instituted both the cost cutting initiatives and the disastrous logo change was Julie Felss Masino who got the promotion in 2023. The more subtle revenue enhancing measures that led to a decline in food quality would have occurred in 2024 and 2025. 2025 saw the disastrous logo change experiment. Many companies would have axed the CEO after a disaster of that magnitude. However, giving credit where credit is due, Masino saw the errors of her ways. There was a rapid pivoting towards re-emphasizing food quality and guest experience. They made a grand official announcement of the revitalization of these old classic priorities in a series of press releases in October of 2025. There were a lot of personnel changes too in upper middle management, promoting old-timers who were solidly grounded in Cracker Barrel's traditional ways of cooking and providing customer service. The repair job has worked magnificently. Cracker Barrel is now the outstanding chain we all remember. I for one could not be happier. * * * I went down to check out the new "old" regime at the Cracker Barrel in Buda. I had a homestyle dinner that was thumbs up all the way. A terrific chicken fried steak. Super meaty super tasty greens. Addictive macaroni and cheese. Homemade fried okra - not the standard stuff Sysco sells restaurants in 20 pound bags. Total comfort food. I was totally comforted. * * * Just for the record, the stupid stuff that they sell in the store when you come in, Was just a little more interesting and almost crossed the threshold of being buy-able. (I may be getting old but I am not stupid yet. If I were to ever buy merchandise from a Cracker Barrel Country Store, Some family member would need to take control of my credit card and put me on an allowance.) * * * Still the chain is back up to its original level of all-time favorite. I can hardly wait to go back.

Served with biscuits and gravy and hashbrown casserole) with a side of 3 pancakes. I like my eggs over easy and they were cooked just right. I didn't think the chicken fried steak was very good. The meat tasted kinda funny, I don't know if it was the seasoning or what. The texture of it was like a sausage patty. Just wasn't what I was expecting for a chicken fried steak. Plus it didn't seem to have much breading on it, and what there was on it didn't stay on the chicken fried steak and was soggy/mushy. The sawmill gravy was good. The hashbrown casserole was just okay, it could have been cooked a little more...in my opinion. I never got the 2 biscuits. I forgot all about them and just remember after I had left. The pancakes were really good. Plus the breakfast wasn't hot...more like, lukewarm. I was told that the wait to get a table was 20 minutes. It was actually 27 minutes, not too bad. I usually expect at least a 30 minute wait. The issue I had was after ordering my food, it took 52 minutes to get it. This seemed to be a long time to me. The hostess and server were average. I had to keep waving the server over when I needed anything, she never came over on her own to check to see if everything was OK or if I needed anything. The restaurant was clean. The nice thing about the restaurant is there's a lot of stuff to look at in the front while you're waiting to be seated. Overall, I was kinda disappointed with the wait time, with some of my food and my waitress. This is why I am giving 3 stars.

We were able to score a table under the tent, not far from the fire pit so it was nice and cozy on a cool day at 50°. There is also a big screen TV nearby nestled above a stage. There was plenty of seating under the tent. Just outside of the tent was a little bar and more seating, there was another big fire pit outside of the tent as well. There's another bar in the main building and the crawfish boil ordering area is outside as well. It's set up really great with lots of seating outside and there's even seating inside where the bar is. The line to get the crawfish was not long we only had one person ahead of us. We did a build your own boil bag with 3 lb of crawfish, half pound of shrimp, half pound of crab legs, with 1 sausage, 2 potatoes, 2 corn & some little mushrooms. Paid just a little over $80 for that. The crawfish was good with really good flavor and spice, But most of them were still pretty small due to the season. The shrimp was good! The crab legs were not the best, a bit salty and fishy. I wouldn't order them again. Next time I would just order the crawfish and possibly shrimp. Seasoning really was good and just the right amount of spice! Anyhoo, This was our first Crawfish boil of the season, looking forward to many many more.

We were already seated at our table with my mother and children when the situation occurred. My special needs child had a caramel frappé from McDonald's, which is her preferred drink and one of the only things she consumes, as she does not eat by mouth. Our server had already greeted us and taken our drink orders without raising any concerns. Shortly after, another employee approached us and stated that outside drinks were not allowed. I calmly explained my child's medical needs and that the rest of us were planning to order food. Despite this, the employee brought over a manager, who repeated the policy without any willingness to listen or show understanding. We were then told we could not stay and were effectively asked to leave. While I understand that businesses have policies, the complete lack of compassion, flexibility, and basic customer care in this situation was unacceptable. This was not a case of bringing in outside food for convenience--this was about accommodating a child with special needs while the rest of the family intended to dine and pay as customers. Being asked to leave under these circumstances was both embarrassing and upsetting. Based on this experience, I will not be returning. I hope management seriously reflects on how situations like this are handled in the future, because no family should be treated this way. I'm pretty sure they won't reflect on this situation seeing as how the manager was all too happy about kicking us out, he literally showed absolutely no compassion or care at all.
