The staff was friendly and we got a table quickly despite the crowd. However, like their rating, the food was mid at best. The relleño and their carnitas were cooked textbook perfect, but their flavor was severely lacking. The chips come from a bag, and their salsa must be from a can. What saved them from a 2 was that they make their tortillas fresh. Grilled right out front, enticing you as you wait. read more

I am extremely disappointed by my recent experience at this restaurant. My family and I have dined here many times in the past, which makes how we were treated even more unacceptable. We were already seated at our table with my mother and children when the situation occurred. My special needs child had a caramel frappé from McDonald's, which is her preferred drink and one of the only things she consumes, as she does not eat by mouth. Our server had already greeted us and taken our drink orders without raising any concerns. Shortly after, another employee approached us and stated that outside drinks were not allowed. I calmly explained my child's medical needs and that the rest of us were planning to order food. Despite this, the employee brought over a manager, who repeated the policy without any willingness to listen or show understanding. We were then told we could not stay and were effectively asked to leave. While I understand that businesses have policies, the complete lack of compassion, flexibility, and basic customer care in this situation was unacceptable. This was not a case of bringing in outside food for convenience--this was about accommodating a child with special needs while the rest of the family intended to dine and pay as customers. Being asked to leave under these circumstances was both embarrassing and upsetting. Based on this experience, I will not be returning. I hope management seriously reflects on how situations like this are handled in the future, because no family should be treated this way. I'm pretty sure they won't reflect on this situation seeing as how the manager was all too happy about kicking us out, he literally showed absolutely no compassion or care at all. read more

Last review 2018. Not a regular diner but here's a recent dining update. They are busy for a reason. I've only had it a few times but the Breakfast Enchiladas with sunny side up eggs is killer. Think I've had the Mole and Migas too. For this day I took Rooster for a driving lesson at nearby Harris Hill Raceway. I decided as we were leaving chips and salsa was needed and headed to Kyle. Thirty minute wait for the dining area and patio but plenty of barstools open. Bartender was slammed but provided decent service. My biggest problem was the kitchen for this visit. We sat down and ordered; more barstools started filling up. A couple to our right. Another couple to the left. All their food arrived; we're still sitting there snacking. Bartender said my kids pork chop plate takes more time. We're talking barely 1/4 inch chops but he's acting like there's a sous vide machine and it's a foot thick. Truth be told the kitchen was in the weeds pushing out entrees for the 30 top on the patio. Those other couples were done eating when we finally got our food. Kiddo ate his chops with grilled tomatoes, onions, and green peppers. He gets Charro beans????? OMG, to sub charro on other plates is now $2.95!?!?! My three enchilada plate (forgot the menu name) wasn't that great. That same Chili con Carne with Cheese Enchilada wasn't as spectacular when it's nestled against the Chicken and Tomatillo. The other Enchilada was strange. White Cheese with basically a Sour Cream Sauce was tangy yet had no counterpoint. Even added Pico and Guacamole to no avail. Meh. Was looking for a good breakfast taco in the area and seemed easy to order online. Got a couple tacos. The chorizo was flavorful but not over the top. Ordered off UberEats for pickup. App told me it was ready 5 minutes before I arrived, when I got there the host told me it wasn't ready, I saw a few bags behind him so i reiterated my order was placed on UberEats in case all he looked for was my name. He proceeded to tell me it wasn't ready. 5 minutes later the woman bringing out orders asked who I was waiting for, he said my name, then she pointed to a bag that had been sitting there. He then proceeded to repeat the order name just with the last initial, as if to emphasize the reason he didn't know it was my order was because I didn't state my last initial. Was kinda annoyed about that, but the feeling faded by the time I got home. Anyways. Sitting here eating now and inside my Chimichanga is a toothpick not visible from the outside. Not sure if it's normal to have a toothpick inserted in them and mine was just too deep to see it, or if the line made a mistake and cooked it inside. Either way, I wasn't able to see it. And I transferred and held it as well. Was halfway through eating it before it made its way into my mouth. Im 99.9% certain it was fried accidentally into the meat of the food. Anyways. Probably wouldn't order them to-go again. Hopefully dining in is a different experience. read more

I have been denied entry twice with my service animal despite there being patio seating. Insane behavior, rude staff.

Years ago, my husband and I lived near by and we were regulars (we loved the variety of migas and tacos). So, when traveling through I stopped in for breakfast this morning. The restaurant was packed with a 25 minute wait for an indoor table, so I opted to sit on the patio and was seated right away. I ordered the migas with carne gasada on the side with queso and ranchero sauce. The food took a while to arrive, but I wasn't in a huge hurry so it was fine. When the food arrived it looked great and was hot, but I didn't realize there was no ranchero sauce until the server left. I waved at a server quickly walking by and asked for ranchero sauce and then waited, then I asked another server for the same item because I wanted it to go with my migas, so I slowly ate while I waited. Again, I saw the first server I asked zip by and on her way back in the building I asked her nicely if the ranchero sauce was coming. She smiled and said yes, just a minute. So I continued to wait and slowly eat my food. The couple next to me asked, "your server hasn't come back to check on you have they." I said no and explained the situation and how many times I had asked for the ranchero sauce. It was already frustrating, so when I saw another server, I asked for the manager. He came out quickly, I explained the situation and he offered to get me the sauce I had asked for four separate times. When he delivered it he asked if I needed anything else and I asked for a to go box because my food was no longer warm. I now live over an hour away, so the food quality was not the same by the time I got home. The whole situation was incredibly disappointing. I will not attempt to return on a busy weekend and I may never return. No one seemed to care about the overall experience and I couldn't get any server to care about someone who wasn't tipping them directly. I wished the couple next to me a wonderful day and hoped their food came out sometime soon and was accurate. read more

I have some Mixed reviews here. I'll break it down. The decor and ambiance looks appealing with its Mexican theme. This restaurant is located in the corner of a strip mall and is very large. It can accommodate large parties indoors and outdoors. The service? We had very little wait time before getting seated, considering we came during the busy Sunday brunch time. The server took our order in an timely manner. The food... It took a very long time to arrive. The portion sizes were large and looked appetizing. Those dishes from other customers around us did too. The taste however, is a different story. The menudo was not good at all. The migas did taste good. My omelette was okay. Will we come back? Perhaps after exhausting all the other local restaurant choices. This won't be our first choice. read more

I don't know why this place has bad reviews. I almost didn't come here because of yelp's stars. My bf saw it had higher ratings on Google so we came and took a chance. I'm so glad we did. The chips and salsa are amazing. I know this sounds weird but I usually judge a Mexican place by their chips and salsa. The salsa had a good heat to it and we killed the first bowl of it. I got the chili relleno and it was so good. The beef was so damn tender and everything was perfect. I've had many chili rellenos and this one was top 2. 1st time here and wouldn't return. It's a Saturday morning, it's understanding that it's busy but we waited an 30-40 minutes for our food. There were only about 2-3 tables in the restaurant that had gotten their food and 1 was even seated after us and still got their food before us. When I asked the waitress she said she had a lot of tables and they're busy... which I could see that myself. Then when we received our tacos, the waitress added 3 more tacos on to our meal when we were saying we wanted the toppings on our tacos, not 3 extra tacos. There's a reason why the two tables of diners directly next to us in the picture that I took are wearing caps that cover their heads ...and why a diner at the bar had to put his hoodie on AFTER coming in (see pic). IT'S FREEZING IN HERE. It's in the 40's outside and no heater inside. So, wear a coat, and order coffee. The coffee came out hot, thank goodness! I am actually starting to thaw out, but not enough to take off my heavy coat, which is the same for other diners. The positives: I had an array of breakfast tacos. The beef and chicken meat was tender, and not fatty. The tortillas are homemade, a big positive! Very good service from Claudia! Watching some football today at the bar and hubby or these shredded chicken nachos that were wonderful and plenty of everything. We had enough leftovers for dinner, but just didn't feel like steak two days in a row. So Karen and I headed down to Kyle to Casa Garcia's, one of our favorite Tex-Mex restaurants. If you haven't tried it, we recommend it. Casa Garcia's (not to be confused with Garcia's in Buda) is a family-owned group of seven Austin-area restaurants. We had only been there once before, and the Tex-Mex food was as good as any we had ever had. Extensive menu, reasonable prices, hefty portions served steaming hot. The roomy, pleasantly decorated place is in a little strip near the H-E-B at the Kyle Parkway exit off I-35. It's fairly easy to get to, as long as you don't go in the middle of rush-hour and face lines trying to get in and out of the parking lot. Even with some busy traffic, it's a quick ride down I-35 from Turner's Crossing. If there is a lot of traffic on the main highway, our habit is to just take the frontage road all the way. We had the very same, friendly waiter named Samuel that we had in our previous visit nine days after we moved to Buda about seven months ago. He didn't remember us, but he was as quick and efficient as we remembered him. I decided on the tamale plate, which came with two pork tamales, smothered in a tasty sauce, and sides of one hard-shell beef taco, the usual refried beans and Mexican rice. The tamales were very good, but the corn masa was a little on the crumbly side. I have found Mexican restaurants in this area with better. The ground beef taco was better than I expected. Karen went with the two mushroom enchiladas in a white cheese sauce, something we had not seen at a Mexican eatery before. It also came with refried beans and rice. When she ordered, Samuel smiled broadly and told her that it's one of his favorite things on the menu. After her first bite, she told him that he was absolutely right, and that it was truly a treat. She raved about the sauce and noted that the enchiladas were chock full of sautéed mushrooms. She gave me a taste, and I told her that I wouldn't even need a menu the next time we visited. Unquestionably, that will be my choice. Half of her meal came home with her, and I had to promise I wouldn't touch it. ------------- Following are notes from a previous visit to Casa Garcia's: ------------- When it comes to Tex-Mex, this eatery is the equal of the best I have ever found. Karen and I were definitely in the minority, because all we could hear in the conversations around us on this visit was Spanish. We had a feeling we were in for a treat and we were not disappointed. Our young waiter, a personable fellow named Samuel, was an engaging conversationalist. He patiently answered questions while we looked over an extensive menu. Karen settled on the chicken enchilada molé (molay) dinner; I had the beef enchilada plate with a variety of sauces. The obligatory basket of corn chips came with the chunkiest, tasty salsa I have had in ages. Karen and Samuel engaged in a lively conversation on the various types of molé, and Samuel seemed downright surprised that a blonde with German ancestry is adept at creating such a complex dish. I have frequented this Casa Garcia's for the last several years. I eat it at least 2-3 times a month. With that being said, I ate there on Saturday and was highly disappointed. The size of the flour tortillas shrunk to that of street tacos. All 3 of my tacos were miniature with very little filling inside. One of the tacos was a bean and bacon. It was literally a small scope of beans in the middle of the tiny tortilla. I requested a strip of bacon instead of bacon crumbles. I paid an additional $1 for that change. I don't mind doing that but paying $4 for the taco they served was insane. The chicken fajita taco had 4 small pieces of meat. Not worth the cost of $4 for that either. I hope it was just an off day for their sake or they are going to start losing customers quickly. read more

Ordered a quesadilla and queso to go. Said it would take 20 minutes and it took 40. When I got to the restaurant there was no one at the desk for quite a long time. Multiple people are waiting and the waiters just walked past. Didn't even acknowledge any of us. Asked if they were going to have a little salsa included they said yes, but didn't give me any. Ordered nothing on the side with a quesadilla and they still put extra stuff in it. So it took twice as long and they messed up half my order. And not even a sorry or anything! I ordered a chimicanga plate asked for it to be a bit crunchy. It came out barely warm and really mushy. It was 80 % rice. When my partner finished my plate all the beef was at the end of the "burrito " but so soupy. The side was rice also. I've ordered this before with a nice dinner. Very disappointed as the waitress didn't seem concerned. Rice is so cheap??? No too happy after a long day at work and looking forward to a relaxing meal. BUT the frozen margarita was fantastic.
