I visited Spicy Bite for Cinco de Mayo and had a mostly great experience, but there were some communication issues that I think management should address. First, the positives: the food and drinks were really good. The $3 frozen margaritas (I got strawberry) were absolutely delicious--definitely a highlight. I also ordered the carne asada fries with queso, and they were SO good. I honestly wanted a second order but had to save room for the rest of my meal. For my entrée, I got the Plum combo plate, which came with a taco, chalupa, tamale, enchilada, rice, beans, and tortillas. The beef chalupa was super flavorful, the pork tamale was thick and tasty, and the chicken enchilada was soft and delicious. The enchilada gravy (which I got on the side) was also really good. The only downside food-wise was the rice--it was a little dry. Now for the confusing part: the pricing and specials. They advertised half off appetizers, but nowhere (including Facebook) did it specify which ones qualified. I asked my waitress beforehand and she confirmed appetizers were half off, so I ordered the carne asada fries expecting the discount--but it wasn't applied. Later I was told it only applied to certain items, which wasn't clearly communicated upfront. There was also confusion with my taco order. My combo plate included a taco, and I asked to substitute shrimp instead of chicken or beef and was told there would be a small upcharge. I also ordered two additional shrimp tacos to go. When I got the bill, it showed three tacos, which confused me. It turns out the "upcharge" for the shrimp substitution was essentially the price of a full extra taco, which wasn't clearly explained. If I had known that, I would've ordered differently. To be fair, my waitress was very kind and did her best to help, so this didn't feel like a service issue--more of a communication and pricing clarity issue. Overall, the food and drinks were great, and I would definitely come back (especially for those margaritas and asada fries!). I'd just recommend being very clear about specials and upcharges before ordering. Because of that, I'd rate it 4 out of 5 stars. read more

Love this places breakfast tacos. They make their own flour tortillas and they are worth the trip alone. They come out with the black blister marks and great hearty texture that reminds me of when my grandma would make tortillas. I most always go in and order to-go but have dined in a few times. The service is always tip top every time. I have never had a bad interaction here and the staff is always friendly. Outside of breakfast tacos the other Tex-Mex fare is really good as well. They have beer and liquor as well. So if you want a beer or marg with your meal, you are set. This place is just a gem of a mom and pop shop that delivers the Tex-Mex goods. This place was recommended to my hubby at first. They have a list of tacos to choose from and plates/platters. We have been here a couple of times now. Once around lunch time and the other for breakfast but they do serve breakfast all day. I had the Barbacoa taco & bacon & egg breakfast taco and the other visit I had the Chicken flautas platter. (The platter is just the flautas & the plate comes with rice/beans). Hubby ordered chorizo con huevos (eggs) taco and some menudo. My sis had tacos de lengua (beef tongue). The tortillas are made fresh in house. Everything is made fresh and is delicious from first bite to the last. They do have parking and they can get busy but they seem to handle it well. Service is great and done with a smile. Bathrooms (2 single bathrooms) are kept clean. When you are done with your food you can go up to register to pay for your meal. I cannot say enough good things about this incredible little hole-in-the-wall restaurant. It's always busy, and for good reason! In my opinion, they need to expand. Their enchiladas and flautas are generously stuffed with chicken and cheese, and the sauces are absolutely delicious. The flavors truly remind me of authentic Mexican food. Coming from El Paso, where great Mexican food is the norm, I don't say that lightly, especially living in Austin and the surrounding suburbs where it can be harder to find that same authenticity. I often order their burritos for large meetings and events, and they always receive rave reviews. I joke and tell everyone I made them -- but really, they're just that good! The ladies who work there are so attentive. Honestly, the service rivals (and exceeds) many five-star restaurants. I was looking through Yelp, trying to find a new (to me) place that sold crunchy tacos. So many places sell tacos, and many sell soft tortilla tacos. I wanted hard, crunchy tacos. Not soft tacos. Spicy Bite is 1.4 miles away from my house, so I decided to give them a try. It's a quaint little restaurant with window service and indoor seating. I ordered 4 crunchy tacos (pictured). They were delicious. Ground beef, which I really want in a taco. Lettuce and tomato, with shredded cheese. They were so good that I went back the next day and ordered six. I asked if they had sour cream and cilantro. They did, so I asked them to add that. Delicious as they were, I was a little surprised that I paid extra for sour cream and cilantro. I thought that normally came with a taco. But, oh well. At least I know now that if I want anything more besides lettuce, tomato, and cheese, it's going to cost more. I still recommend Spicy Bite. I was recommended Spicy Bite by someone who works at Summer Moon Coffee in Buda. I was searching for food in the area, using Yelp, couldn't find anything good than the usual stuff. I asked her for her recommendations and she gets all excited telling me about Spicy Bite and their awesome Chicken Tortilla Soup. I love CTS - - and she made it sound so good, I found them on google maps, they were only 14 min away. It's kind of a hole in the wall right on the corner, but it's a busy hole in the wall, and it's relatively clean inside, so it's a clean hole in the wall, so no worries about my saying it's a hole in the wall - okay? Kat is my server, I've seen her now at least a few times, I've gone back for that awesome Chicken Tortilla Soup, and believe me it is awesome. It's under 9 bucks for a large bowl, has shredded chicken in it, good veggies, a small scoop of guac. I get onions and cilantro on the side for 50 cents, and get this - a side of their guac is 50 cents too! I love this soup! See my video and pics! I get it all the time here. Sometimes there's less chicken in it but go at lunch it's always good I also love their chips and salsa here - they have 2 salsas, a warm green one along w/ a red one - and I mix them - so good! They have a special every day, a buck off. The Sour Cream Enchiladas were pretty good - not the best but pretty good. I was really surprised with their Chicken Flautas. I am not a flautas fan, and I'm used to too much crispy tortilla and not enough chicken or filling. But here they came out hot and loaded with shredded chicken. I was so surprised! Kat is cool AF. This place is cool AF. I know this guy, named Del, he's the King of Kyle. I told him I went to Spicy Bites and he got so excited and worked up. He loves this place, and regularly orders from them when he has his large neighborhood pool parties at his huge palace in Kyle with his BFF Oscar The Pimpmeister. Big D has the biggest pool in Kyle. Me and my family love Spicy Bite!! We eat here about once a week. The trio plate is amazing! Definitely spicy but so good, their cheese enchiladas are great I recommend them on the trio plate over the chicken enchiladas! We also like their breakfast. I was surprised I was able to get a table at 9a on a Saturday morning. The staff were fantastic, the salsa was hot! The chips were crispy and the omelette I ordered was perfect. My order came out really quickly, was hot and perfect. They kept my coffee filled and checked on me frequently but not intrusively. While the dining room is small, it was clean. Got 2 barbacoa tacos and paid extra for cilantro and onions after being told it didn't come with it. It still didn't come with it. ‍ Barbacoa was good but a bit greasy. RED enchiladas is how I am going to open up my review with for the underrated Spicy Bite. This is the ONLY spot I can find between Austin and here where they make their enchiladas with red delicious tortillas. I am from San Antonio so you have to understand as soon as I moved to Austin and saw NO ONE making homemade tortillas much less using red tortillas for enchiladas I was SHOCKED! How?! How do you pull this off? How are people so naive?! were my thoughts until I found Spicy Bite! Great prices, fast and friendly service, and they even have a drive-thru if you don't want to risk seeing people you work with/live next to/know. I almost didn't have the chance to try the food here while visiting a friend. Sometimes while trying to order over the phone takes patience due to the risk of them being so busy they miss our phone call. I ordered the flauta plate with a melón aqua. It was delicious! I was excited that they had different aqua choices. The Mexican rice was also yummy. So yummy that my kiddo couldn't stop asking for more of it.
