What is this place?! We were looking for a quick drive thru on our venture home from New Braunfels to Austin and saw this drive thru on the map. Their website actually let's you order online for pickup too. This comes in extra handy when you're husband has a 1:00p conference call and your eta without the drive thru stop is already 12:50. The kids and I needed a quick breakfast between Buda and south Austin. I was totally going to check out one of the coffee and more places along Manchaca until I saw the school and work traffic clogging up the intersection of 967 and 1626. With so little time to spare I decided to go to plan B and turn into the Bread Basket gas station because I remembered seeing good reviews on Taco Clem. I am not usually excited by "gas station food" but listen, that is NOT what this is! These are legit breakfast tacos with a variety of fillings. I tried the Buda Taco and the Clem Taco and they both knocked my socks off. One of them had carne guisada! They were both so delicious! Even the kids all enjoyed the different tacos they got and asked if we could go back a second time the same day! Chris took such good care of us. Since before it opened I saw it from afar and told my daughter that I wanted to try it. Then just about 3 days after it opened we went and were hooked line and sinker. Their food is amazing and good - portion size and taste. Their salsas and hot sauces are out of this world. Their menu has just about everything from breakfast tacos, tacos of fajitas, birria tacos and just about any combination that you want they'll make it for you. They have dinner plates of enchiladas and flautas and crispy tacos and carne asada! But most importantly they great you as you come in with a friendly smile and ask you with sincerity what would you like to eat. This genuineness is very important for a successful business. I hope that everyone comes and visits them and makes them a regular eating spot, because nowadays when things are as tight as they are for everyone, you have to make a good choice for yourself and your family and not be disappointed. Delicious tacos! The food here was fantastic. It's prepared quickly and they are a casual spot, with mostly to gos and a small seating area, but everything we tried was amazing. We got the beef fajitas, a barbacoa taco, two sides of rice and some flour tortillas. So good! They sell beer and seltzers. Taco Clem is a gem. A locally owned family joint in buda tucked behind the freeway. My go to meal before I hit the river because the tacos are huge and cheap. Food was good. I had a grilled shrimp taco, al pastor taco, and chips and salsa. All were very tasty, but the pastor could have been better if some pineapple was added. Someone put a lot of thought into getting this place to be efficient and it shows, it's the fastest taco place I know of in Austin which is a feat in and of itself but on top of that, pound for pound, these are the best tacos in Austin. If this place was open 24 hours like Tyson Tacos, which is my other favorite tacos, it would reach a new level. I'll also note the location is super safe, unlike other spots in Austin so you can come here with wife and kids and not feel like you have to have your head on a swivel, super safe, super clean. I looked at old reviews because I noticed they mention tacos I don't see on the menu anymore and so what I noticed is this place has been streamlined over time to improve the service and honestly, it's genius. The meat is A+ every single time, I've never, not once, had to throw out a piece of gristle for example, so someone's clearly doing that at some point and then only serving the quality stuff, which is impressive. The tacos are FAT too, like chunky chunky they are juicy these are tacos for real taco lovers and for people that want a real meal. Oh just a heads up there's no avocado or cheese on the tacos (that I saw) but you can ask for cheese if you want and that's totally cool, it streamlines things. The salsas, cilantro, onion, lime, and pico are all separate in like a little salsa bar, which also streamlines things and it makes it so basically every person can create their own unique taco to exactly their taste without holding up the line, again, streamlining things. My advice would be to put a blatant sign on top of the salsa bar like saying "Salsa Bar" and with a big arrow pointing down because it's hidden and people eat here and not even realize it's there, which is a huge failure point, also to open 24 hours because that would be rad, and lastly to change the name, the name is not memorable at all and does the place a disservice, the name is completely blah while the tacos are actually, pound for pound, best tacos in Austin because of how it's so streamlined, the meat is super quality, and you can customize your taco to exactly how you want due to the amazing salsa bar. I was super excited to see they're expanding to west buda in the gas station, but I got ONE taco and it was nearly $5, then they have the nerve to ask for a tip.... No gas station taco should ever cost that much, in my opinion. I didn't even get salsa! Haha The old owners of the taco shop inside of the gas station used to have a special, 2 tacos and a coffee for $5 - and those tacos were gooooood! Taco Clem's were dry and expensive. Yup, probably not coming back. Horchata machine down. I really wanted papas rancheros tacos. They don't have that on the menu. Had to settle for the safe B&C standard.... the Bean and cheese tacos were borderline gross. Beans bland and cheese tasted like that cheap American cheese. Same plaza where you were see the Starbucks from the feeder road. The place was had a decent size to it. There are plenty of tables and a bar style seating against the side of the restaurant. Service was good. They take your order at the counter and they bring it to you. Birria taco was okay, wasn't amazing. The broth didn't have much flavor to it to ones I had before. The meat was tender in 2 of my taco. The 3rd one there was still connective tissue from the meat making it hard to eat. Buda Taco was okay. Too much tortilla for the amount of filling that was in it. We needed a good taco place in Buda! I love Chorizo and egg tacos, so it's been a challenge for me to find some that taste authentic! I have been going every Friday since they have been open! I think all their tacos are delicious and they are pretty fast! The staff is always friendly and my tacos are always piping hot! Plus I pay $3.25 for a taco, so that's very reasonable. It was good but nothing extraordinary. There is a small salsa bar with three different types of salsas, limes, cilantro, and a few other items located in the dining room area. Having a self-service salsa bar was nice because my meal definitely needed salsa. There is plenty of parking. It looks like a fast food restaurant and I'm pretty sure there is a drive thru because the woman that took my order was wearing a headset. I've been interested in Taco Clem for a while as a fan of Jalisco's but my trips to Buda have always led me elsewhere. Finally got to try it out and I'm going to start with my complaints: Fountain drinks... what drinks do they have? Nobody knows. I glanced over and saw they have a six-pour soda fountain, half of which was out of service. About what I expected when I saw the mystery fountain drink option. Also they are not customer-side so if they offer refills (I imagine they do), you'll have to ask an employee. Fajitas by the pound... no where in the menu nor the online ordering page I used did it mention onions and peppers were included AND part of the weight. So what you get are the tacos you see in my attached photos. If you're looking for fat tacos at a similar price point, I think you know where to go. It's not here. At $25 per pound, I think I'll just go get some BBQ. The salsa bar totally saves this place though. If you're topping-forward like I am then this addition is amazing. Four sauces, which all taste fantastic (jalapeno sauce was their spiciest and I was surprised it had a decent level of spice... extra hot seems to be gone), pico de gallo which just tastes so-so for whatever reason, then you have the classic onions and habaneros mix which is one of my favorite parts of a good salsa bar - this mix had literally only one habanero slice though. Otherwise, the inside consists of your standard issue basic tables and chairs with a sprinkling of random décor and a lot of natural light from the windows. Overall, you've got high prices for this style of establishment while maintaining low portion sizing (compared to both other fast-food style places and compared to taco shops). Is it better than ordering to-go from say Jaliscos? Maybe a little bit. read more

Two words: Migas Burrito. It's on the menu, but if you go through the drive-thru i'm not 100% positive it's listed on there... but just ask for it and they got you taken care of. Fresh, hot eggs, cheese, a nice sauce, and tortilla strips. For a level up approach, getcha some sausage added to it or potatoes. Both will make you happy. If you aren't in the breakfast mood, can't go wrong with the Sunfield Taco.
