Amazing flavor and one of the best pollo carbons I've ever had it may be a chain restaurant but they know what they're doing

Excellent food and service! I was in Buda visiting family…read more They were raving about Chavelos. They dine there twice a week. I had breakfast tacos with egg, cheese, and avocado with a side of breakfast potatoes. Our server, Aly, was so friendly and attentive. The salsas were hot! But with different levels of heat. The whole experience was great and will definitely return when visiting again.

The back is the front and the front is the back here…read more You drive by the street address, and the restaurant is not even marked. Go around to the alley in the back and there is a welcoming parking lot, a huge sign and customers going in and out. * * * Chavelos is your basic Texas Tex-Mex restaurant. All the standards. Prepared the normal ways these things are prepared. As comforting as old bedroom slippers. You can find these dishes in thousands of places all over Texas. But you will do perfectly well having them here. * * * Two unusual notes besides the back is front issue. a) They have beautiful post oaks in the back-is-front back yard. On warm days, you can sit out there. I recommend it. b) They are massively generous with chips and dip. The initial bowl they give you is microscopic. But they are refilling that bowl constantly. Scoops of chips showed up at our table many many times during our meal. The chips are lovely. The salsa is no great shakes. Still, I ate 6,438 chips with dip. So the salsa can't have been that bad. * * * Altogether a pleasant place. The old standards are old standards for a reason.

Tables were dirty. Beans were cold and flavorless…read more They are very stingy with their chip baskets, they barely give you any. Service was below average. Ambiance is depressing. The sun BEAMS straight into the restaurant and they are too cheap to place drapes or shades to stop the sun from straining your eyes. Their prices are ridiculously higher than advertised and food is small portioned and mediocre. Oh and to top it off, they charge you extra for paying with any credit card, and they won't disclose that until you see extra charges on your receipt. Will never go back again! I'll stick to Garcia's, better quality, service, food portions, ambiance and pricing.

I found a new trick and now I order it with bread instead of tortillas. I'm South American so tortillas are not my favorite, but their bread is toasted with butter and tastes SO good! The service is also great, the waiter staff is attentive, they're bi-lingual and your food comes out fast. I like the art in the tables and chairs, there is enough space probably for about 50 people sitting. This time we tried the desserts, the caramel flan was perfection and the churros, oh the churros...they fry them right up when you order them and they taste like heaven. Will be back as usual!

Service is super friendly and the menu is so much fun - so many different options - both breakfast and lunch/dinner. This is one of those places that makes you just love Austin. I want to go back and try so many different things. The breakfast items I had were all fantastic! Migas, pancakes, tacos etc. I both recommend Mi Ranchito to local friends as well as will absolutely take my friends and family that visit to. Def on my Austin faves list!

Very loud inside, a bit hard to hear even at the register…read more They hand you a menu and then you pass by the register to order and then have a seat. We eventually moved outside where it was much quieter but humid. We ordered a mole enchilada plate and a flauta plate. When they brought our food and asked about napkins, silverware, condiments, etc., and then we were told oh you have to get up and go back inside and get them yourselves. This was after we had left a tip at the register. So, be sure before you sit down you get your silverware napkins and condiments. No one pointed that out as we checked out and paid and left a tip. The lady at the register seemed very friendly, but she had to ask someone to substitute french fries for my refried beans and they seemed very reluctant to do so. Not sure why I told him it's OK just put the beans on it, but they finally relented and gave me fries instead of refried beans.. I have to say my mole enchiladas were barely above room temperature. The flavor was OK but nothing else standing. The fries also had that kind of frozen flavor like they've been in the freezer for a long time before being cooked. The flautas were pretty good, but again nothing outstanding. Overall, I would say we had an average lunch. It was nice to try somewhere new but I'm not sure. I would drive out the way to go back.
