I used to order from this spot all the time, but they closed for renovations for a while. I was really excited to see them open again and stopped by one evening for dinner to go. I ordered the Steak Cozumel -- an 8 oz ribeye with a cheese enchilada, rice, and beans -- plus a small queso with chips. Customer service was friendly, but the food this time was just okay. In the past, I remember the flavors being outstanding, but it didn't quite live up to that on this visit. The tortillas also tasted store-bought, which was disappointing. That said, I've had amazing meals here before, so I'm hopeful they'll get back to the quality I remember. I'll definitely give them another try down the road. read more

We happened to find this gem while looking for a place downtown. Party of 3 seated almost immediately around 3p. The restaurant was quite packed but staff were attentive and friendly, great service the entire time. The menu is quite large with lots of great options. Garcia's is such a great spot in downtown Buda! The food is absolutely delicious and the margarita was super strong (granted, I'm a lightweight ). I ordered a Papa Ranchera taco from Garcias Mexican in Buda, and to be honest, I was extremely disappointed. Anyone who's ever ordered Papa Rancheras here before knows exactly what to expect -- potatoes cooked in a flavorful ranchera sauce, with that signature red color and seasoning. What I received was completely different: just plain potatoes, eggs, and bacon in a tortilla, with no sauce or flavor. It looked like something thrown together without care, and definitely not what I paid for. I spoke with Esmeralda, who claimed to be the manager, and she told me this location is owned by a different family member and therefore "does things differently." I explained to her that the sign outside still says Garcias Mexican, and as a customer, I expect the same quality and consistency at any location under that name. That's part of what builds trust with a brand. Her response didn't address the issue -- and honestly, it made the experience even more frustrating. I've been a customer of Garcias for years and have always associated the name with good food and consistency. This visit did not reflect that standard. If this location is going to operate differently, customers deserve to know upfront -- or better yet, they should raise their quality to match the reputation that the Garcias name is known for. read more

We were in Buda spending time with family and met friends here for dinner. The restaurant was recently renovated and it is very nice... and fits the downtown vibe. We had their special queso and it was very good. I had their beef fajitas nortenas and they were fantastic, I would recommend the charro beans! I'm a regular here for weekend menudo, but came on a weekday and the pico was extra spicy. I didn't complain -- the guy in the kitchen must have noticed and checked on me, he made a fresh mild pico on the spot. Excellent customer service and always great food. Highly recommend! read more

This restaurant was recently reopened, and the food was absolutely delicious. I've been to another location before and enjoyed the food so I decided to give this place a try. The chips were very crunchy and complimented very well with the salsa. The shrimp were huge and very flavorful, the charro beans are highly recommended. Tortillas not homemade anymore. My enchiladas the corn tortillas were hard not fresh The remodeling was too opened. No ambience not as before We love the old Garcia's. That's not there no more. I had the Garcia's deluxe. I've been to this location since it opened and it's consistently great. Nothing was left in that picture. It's a lot of food at a great price/. Great bang for the buck at $13.95. The waitresses was very attentive and the atmosphere here is your typical central Texas home converted into a restaurant. I'm never sure how it's going to go at ethnic/cultural restaurants, but since I LOVE non-American food I was up for giving Garcias a try... The waitstaff we had was awesome! She helped make sure my omelet was cooked separately so it was truly gluten free... and it was delicious to boot! Hubs had some other thing that he said was delicious and honestly, I was so enamored by my delicious, huge omelet I hardly paid enough attention to grab a photo of his food. It's a bit of a tiny place, but homey and felt like family. I'm so glad our local friend recommended it and we took time to meet her there! read more

My husband and I visited Garcias while we were passing through Buda. We were seated quickly and our waitress took our order quickly, but then kind of of forgot about us. The food came out fast and everything was good. I wouldn't say top quality, but decent. The water and tea tasted funky. (Note: I write Facebook reviews for residents of Turner's Crossing, a new development in Buda, as we all learn about good places to dine in Austin.) ------------- Hi, neighbors. We saw news reports that this iconic eatery in downtown Buda will be closing sometime in June for several months of renovations and repairs. So, Karen pointed out that today would be a great time to make another visit for a heaping helping of authentic Mexican food. By now, I can only assume that most of our new neighbors in Turner's Crossing have driven through Buda and at least know where this place is located. It's basically impossible to miss if you go as far as the western edge of the historic downtown district. Garcia's (not to be confused with Casa Garcia's) is a family owned, small chain that first opened in San Marcos in 1988. Six additional locations including the one in Buda have since been opened by the family's younger generation, proud to serve up their ancestors' best recipes. Today, with temperatures in the low 90s and the comfortable deck awaiting us outside, we figured it was time to try dining alfresco. The deck was roomy and bug-free, and service out there was as efficient as we have experienced inside. This was probably our eighth or ninth time to Garcia's in the 11 months we have been in Buda, and we had always enjoyed their small, clean and welcoming indoor dining areas before. It is decidedly unfancy, but the food is delicious, the service is efficient, the portions are substantial, the prices are reasonable, and the staff is friendly. It's not often you can find a place that checks all those boxes. Now, time to write about the food, which is the reason we were there in the first place. Instead of settling for the usual bowl of chips and excellent salsa, we opted for a small Garcia's Chile Con Queso ($7.25), a blend of queso mixed with sausage and pico de gallo. It was flavorful and a great start to our dinner. Karen only wanted a single chicken and sour cream enchilada ($2.25) with no sides. She planned to concentrate on that excellent appetizer. I chose the Taco Dinner ($10), which was two beef soft tacos served with the usual rice and refried beans. I thought I was ordering a small meal until I saw the size of those tacos. They were the biggest I have ever seen, packed with ground beef, lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese. Considering I helped Karen with that chili con queso appetizer, one of my tacos had to come home with me. Despite the abundance of very good Mexican restaurants within an easy drive of Turner's Crossing, I rank Garcia's near the top. The menu is extensive, with several American dishes, and breakfast is served all day long. ------------- Following are notes from previous visits to Garcia's: ------------- We were out running some errands when we decided to pay a return visit to this charming and bustling little Mexican eatery at the edge of old downtown Buda. Karen and I both agreed that the homemade tortilla chips and spicy salsa that grace the table before ordering were as good as any we've ever had. I chose the Chicken Fried Steak Ranchero ($11.50), with charro beans, Mexican rice, and corn tortillas. It was especially delicious when the steak was sliced and wrapped up in warm tortillas. Half of Karen's Spinach Enchiladas ($11.50), with artichokes and Monterey Jack cheese, along with refried beans and rice, came home with us. ------------- Garcia's was perfect for lunch today about 1:30, just as some Sunday regulars were leaving and tables were available. I had the Chicken Taco Salad ($9.75) that included a scoop of the best guacamole I ever ate. Karen chose a breakfast migas taco. She's making dinner at home tonight, but we needed our weekend fix of Mexican food. ------------- After trying valiantly to use my halting Spanish today with our new housekeeper, who only speaks a few words of English, I was hungry for Mexican food again. So Karen and I decided to make another visit to Garcia's. I had Los Tres Garcias ($13.95), a plate of three enchiladas -- cheese, chicken and beef -- each covered with a different sauce. My dinner came with Spanish rice, a monkey dish of charro beans, and a corn tortilla. Karen had the Flauta Plate ($10.75), with three crispy chicken flautas, the usual rice and beans, and a scoop of guacamole. Some came home with her for another time. Karen had the perfect dessert waiting at home for us -- tres leches cake from the HEB grocery. ------------- Once again, we were pleased with our orders at Garcia's. I returned to a dish I previously enjoyed -- the chicken fried steak with ranchero sauce, charro beans, Mexican rice and corn tortillas. Karen had a half order of Shrimp Fajitas Quesadillas ($11.50), with Monterey Jack cheese, pico de gallo, guacamole, and sour cream. Went for breakfast on a Saturday morning and to our surprise only had about a 10 minute wait. The servers were all very prompt and friendly. Food was amazing, came out fast and hot. So we were down in Buda looking for a place to eat, and after checking out YELP reviews, we chose Garcias. Garcias Restaurant is on the main drag for downtown Buda and looks like the building was a former small bungalow house. There is a wait, so plan accordingly. When you arrive, you sign into a waiting list, which the host or hostess comes around to the waiting area and calls out the next name on the list. Since we hadn't eaten here before, we did ask our server, Ashlynn, for her recommendations. We chose to go with the "Garcias Deluxe Cheese Enchiladas" dish and the "Enchiladas Ranchera" with chicken dish. While waiting you definitely can smell the food cooking in the kitchen which only made us more hungry. We didnt wait long for our meals, and we were both pleasantly surprised by them! We came from San Diego, where mexican food is king, and really, these dishes lived up to the hype! Both enchilada dishes were tasty and were served with generous portions. Try the home made flour tortillas too - all of which was excellent. The service staff and manager checked on us several times to ensure we were having a good experience. If you are ever in Buda, TX give this restaurant a try. I think you will be happy you did. read more

My husband and I have eaten here many times. My husband always orders the burritos and somehow he finishes the whole thing! This was the first time I ordered the chicken fried steak and it was pretty good. I absolutely LOVE their salsa! It is not spicy though, so if you like it spicy you may be out of luck. Their chips are fresh and have the perfect crunch. The wait staff is super kind and very responsive. I would have given it 5 stars, but the tables are close together and the inside seating area is a little small. Other than that, I highly recommend this place! read more

Came here for breakfast tacos one morning during visit to Austin. Waited at least half hour, then still went to sit outside. We got one taco with little egg and cheese inside, nothing special. My brother and I wanted something more than subpar taco, so we ordered beef quesadilla sliced into 8 sections. Beef quesadilla saved the day, it was good. Waitress was very good. There were flies hovering around food, which is what happens when you eat outside. Didn't like the way owner looked at us on our way out. read more

Located right smack in downtown Buda this location is one of seven locations of Garcias Restaurant Mexican Food and the closest location to us from where we live (South Austin). We are always happy to make the short trek down to Buda to come here as the food and service is fantastic and waaaaay better than any other Mexican restaurants in Austin - seriously! Parking is located right off of Main Street, across the street in a large parking lot, and in the side streets that surround Garcias. Peak times such a week day lunch might pose a chase around to get a good parking spot but be patient - many people who come pick up food will be leaving soon so don't worry you will get a spot. When you walk in to the foyer area you will see a clipboard with a waitlist. If you are not noticed by any of the staff go ahead and sign yourself in - do not wait especially if there are people waiting around to be seated. This is a small reconverted house into a commercial restaurant/kitchen so there is limited spaces and seating but do not be shy to ask if there is any available seating outside as the patio is covered, the breeze comes thru, and you are surrounded by the beautiful trees and foliage next door from the dentists office. The menu is long (has 4 full pages) but nothing you choose will disappoint you! I prefer to have fajitas or their quesadillas as they are delicious! My partner loves the carne guisada, enchiladas, as well as the beef fajitas. Be sure to sub your refried beans for borracho beans as they are delicious! Just recently they ran out of their borracho beans and the waitress offered black borracho beans that were AMAZING! Make note of this vegetarians! Oh and homemade tortillas can be found here which is one of the reasons why we make the trek down from S. Austin to eat here. One thing to note is that this location is BYOB! They encourage you to bring your own booze and beer as they do not have a alcohol license (might be the constraints of zoning or downtown Buda jurisdictions) but that is okay! You got plenty of convenient stores to grab a six pack and bring it in with you to enjoy your meal. Ordering take out is easy breezy too as you have a separate area to pick up from (outside patio area) where your food will be waiting for you all piping hot n whatnot. read more

My Fiancee and I went to Cabella's nearby, and asked one of the employees where a good place to eat around them was. They suggested this place. It was very unassuming place that looks like a house, that got renovated. It is a wrap around porch. On right is outside seating, and left is for outside waiting. It is very small inside. By the sign in table, it had sign saying Max capacity was 60. But, during COVID, I think it half that. There is only two small rooms, and a few tables are left open to space people apart. You have to wear mask upon entry, but take off when get to table. It was filled when we got there, and entrance way was pretty warm. We got a table after about 20 minutes. Once, we sat, we got great service. They had two waitresses helping. First one got our drinks with chips and salsa. Both, were very good. The chips were nice and warm, and salsa was good, but not spicy. My Fiancee got the burrito (* if they ask if want it fried, say "yes), with beef inside. I got the Tres Enchiladas Gracias..three enchiladas..one of each flavor (cheese, beef, and shredded chicken with sour cream). The cheese was just ok (made with cheese sauce), but the beef and chicken were delicious! When they ask if you want some tortillas, say "yes"! They come out rolled in foil, and very warm. I put some rice and beans in mine. Great prices too..both of our meals with drinks, under $30. We live North of Austin, but may have to make to 40 min drive to come back here! read more
