Waiting list moves swiftly while gorgeous Rose keeps the place running smoothly & on point during breakfast & lunch today. I was greeted by Brianna, with energy & beautiful personality. I love Dan's. Great diner atmosphere, quality food, friendly service. I get a cheeseburger with bbq sauce and bacon, small order (which is plenty) of curly fries, and a chocolat shake. I ordered one breakfast taco with bacon egg and potato. The tacos are pretty good here, but for some reason, the bacon has become extremely rancid. I'm not sure if the griddle grease needs to be changed, or what but the bacon tasted really nasty. This is the second time in a row I've noticed it. I went to Dan's Hamburgers last week and did the drive-thru. I ordered a cheeseburger, but then changed my order when I saw the sign about a fish sandwich. I waited. And waited. Then paid. Then waited some more because they make everything fresh to order. But then I waited an often long time (20 minutes). So I started to get worried because the workers seemed flustered. When I finally waved at them to ask what was happening, they let me know my order was missing and that they needed to make it. I said that was fine, and they asked me to move up so that other people behind me could get their food. About ten minutes later, my order came out, and they gave me a brownie for the trouble. I thought that was a nice gesture, and I know things happen. My only recommendation would be to just let the person know when something is missing. I feel like everyone was scared to tell me what was happening. And I get that because they are young professionals. It was a very long time to wait, but the fish sandwich was worth it and was made perfectly. So props to the fish fryer. I'll definitely be back! read more

Well, the food was serviceable. Perhaps we erred in getting the four piece chicken basket to split, with fries and an additional side of onion rings, instead of an eponymous burger. The chicken was fine, albeit thickly battered and strangely hard, but not in an overcooked or dried out way. Just firm, not in a crispy way. The meal came with rolls and a white "gravy" that was bland and really just floury white wetness. The meal would have been improved with a nice hot mustard or BBQ sauce, neither of which were offered. The menu seemed meager, a short board on the wall over the counter. (Later we saw menus in a stack that had breakfast items listed, too, but apparently that was only served outside the dinner hour.) And the poor place was quite messy: the booths hadn't been wiped out (table or seat), and a table across from us had patrons watching a TV show on what looked like a portable computer monitor. Like it was their living room. At least it wasn't turned up as loud as some people insist on listening to their inane tiktok feeds, to the consternation of all around. Just went through the drive through this morning and this lovely lady that served me I guess forgot to put a extra cheese I had paid for because I opened my burger and only see one square cheese . Anyhow the hickory bacon burger was smashed and ugly and pressed down hard with their fingers . I could see the finger prints . And the hickory hardly had any sauce . The onion rings cost $5.79 each and were cold and greasy, the french fries cost $2.49 and were cold, and the tea cost $5.79 each for large and it was so strong and dark we could barely drink it. With the money that was spent and with it being "Dan's" one would think that the food and drinks would be a lot better. This is one location that I will not be returning to. read more

The lady that took my order said she has worked at Dan's for 25 years! The menu is just large enough for you to get what you want. I was told to get the double cheeseburger, so I did. Man!! I come here often when I am craving a filling meal! It is a little pricey but it's so worth it. I normally get the double cheeseburger with onion rings. The single is just too small for me. Drinks are just regular soft drinks, nothing too fancy. It has an old-diner feel on the inside. Sometimes service might not be as attentive because it's normally pretty busy. I'm not going to write a long-winded review about this nearby eatery, but just want to tell everyone here that they serve some mighty fine hamburgers and fries. And the prices are pretty reasonable for the portions you get. It's worth mentioning because there must be 1,675 fast food joints that serve burgers nearby. If it's a meaty, old-fashioned burger that you are hankering for, this is the place. Dan's Hamburgers is less than three miles from Turner's Crossing, at 610 Old San Antonio Rd., close to the HEB gas station at the edge of Buda. It's a retro-50s diner with the addition of a drive-through that is constantly busy. It's roomy inside with plenty of booths and tables. Dan's is decidedly not fancy, but it made an old fogey like me smile a bit when I walked in and saw the vinyl and chrome, kitschy decor. I was disappointed, however, to see that there was no table service. It really cries for a waitress name Flo. You step up to the counter and read the menus above the registers. After you order and pay, you get a receipt with a number on it. Then you listen for your number to be announced over the loudspeaker, at which time you return to the counter and pick up your tray of goodies. There is a self-service soft drink machine on your way to the tables. There are a number of popular breakfast items including tacos that are only served in the mornings, and several sandwiches that are served most of the day along with the burgers. Different sizes of burgers are available to suit your appetite. The same applies to some very tasty fries. Karen made sure we added this to our list of regular eateries because of the incredibly luscious and thick chocolate malt she enjoyed. We're talking an authentic chocolate malt here, not just a mere milkshake. A spoon helped her get through it. But if you want a big, juicy, delicious burger, along with the grease that you would expect in an old-time diner, you have found the right place. Was in the mood for a juicy bit didn't want to drive to Austin for Jewboy's. Found this chain and was impressed. It's not Jewboy, but it's much better than any other fast food chain. Hubby got the regular Double Meat with cheese and added bacon with curly fries. It was a good size and tasty. I got the small double burger with onion rings I loved the burger but did not care for the onion rings at all. They tasted as if they were fried in old oil. Give this place a 5 stars! First time trying it and wanted something different from the corporate burger chains surrounding this hidden diamond. The service was great, respectful and courteous. Ordered the double meat burger and added cheese and jalapeños and bacon! With small fries and onion rings to try. The burger was .25lb and was packed good. Good amount of jalapenos. Spread across the burger not placed in the center like other places. The cheese tasted great. The meat was cooked to perfection. Onion rings were fried well. The batter had a great taste to it also. The fries were plain, no seasonings but nothing ketchup w a lil salt can't fix. I'm glad I found this place. Will definitely look for it when I'm visiting Austin. read more

My father-in-law, who passed away a year ago today, loved hamburgers. I recall months before he passed away, when I was looking after him for a week, and I asked him if he liked Mexican food, having already eaten a steady diet of burgers. He said, "Sure. I like Mexican food." Imagine my chagrin when we got to the Mexican restaurant by Tucson and he ordered hamburger for dinner. Ugh! So it is with that backdrop that my wife and I eagerly looked forward to a burger at Dan's to remember her dad after a few of our friends recommended the place for burgers. We drove up to Buda from the south part of San Marcos and encountered some traffic on I-35...I know, not really a surprise. It looked like there was a single vehicle accident involving a semi that seemed to have driven off the highway, for one reason or another, and there was a flock of cops and emergency responders to the scene. All the while, our hunger grew. Dan's looked like it was set in an old time diner. There was a line, maybe 5 deep, as we queued to order our lunch. It was around 12:30 and the line moved fairly quickly. My wife ordered the hickory burger - medium with small fries and I ordered their jalapeño burger with cheese - medium with small onion rings. We both ordered small fountain drinks with our meal...and when I say small, it was small. Good thing they had free refills. Impressions: We didn't think the burgers were worth driving up from San Marcos for. They were both just OK. The jalapeño slices on mine seemed to be concentrated on one end of the burger and not evenly applied so the last bites were spicier than the first bites. The flavors didn't really stand out to us. We've definitely had much better burgers. The fries, which we heard were good, were nothing to write home about. At least the value was there as our meal only cost us just over $15...although they don't offer military discounts. read more
