Cool little spot. I'm not a huge fan, but I've had a lot of people recommend I try it out. I ordered a large drink, a double cheeseburger with an egg, a tray of fries, and some jalapeños. The total came out to $30, which felt a little high but with this economy, I get it. I care a lot about first impressions. When I walked in, I went straight to the big guy behind the register. There was no greeting or acknowledgment. When I asked if I could place a to-go order, he said, "Give me a moment, I'm busy," in a way that felt dismissive. Thankfully, an older woman with short hair stepped in and helped me. She was very sweet honestly the reason this isn't a lower rating. The food was okay. The fries were pretty bland, and the bun was a bit soggy, likely from the egg yolk. Overall, nothing terrible, but nothing that would bring me back. read more

I just moved about 2 miles from this place and have been passing it every time I'm out with the intention of stopping by. Today was that day. Big Rob's is a hole in the wall in West Kyle. It has a small town feel, bar signs, kitschy decor. We grabbed a booth and our waiter popped by immediately. He was incredibly friendly and funny. He was the only waitstaff but they weren't busy. I ordered the queso avocado burger and my friend ordered the chili cheddar burger. We agreed to split half so we could try two burgers. I started with the chili cheddar and the meat was well seasoned and cooked well. Greasy but not dripping. The chili was a thin spread as another reviewer mentioned and wasn't enough to even make it a messy burger. I did not taste any cheese at all. 3/5 for that burger. Then I ate the half of the queso avocado burger and WOW. The sweet bun with the salty queso was perfect. So much flavor! Easily the better burger. 5/5. The fries were good but they were over salted and there weren't that many. You can get sweet potato, tots or rings, but they're a $2 up charge. With tip it was a $45 meal for two burgers and one drink, my friend had water. They do charge a 3% credit card fee, so bring cash. It's a little pricey but good. What a nice find near the City of Kyle!! Had lunch here with a co worker and was pleasantly surprised. Fast and friendly service and a good atmosphere. This was my first time so I always go with a cheese burger for my first visit to a burger joint. It was really good. It reminded me of a home made burger shaped by hand and cooked in a cast iron skillet. The bun was thick, soft and had a sweet taste. The onion rings were good too!! The only downer was the fact that the burger was cooked to well done. They state that on the menu, but cooking the burger med well would have made it peak! Bella was an excellent waitress, very attentive and sweet. The food was excellent as always. I always love driving along in the middle of no where finding a little hidden gem. Case in point after visiting Wimberly for the first time and google had me on all these backroads only to see BIG ROB'S on my home. My enthusiasm was stoked and as soon as I got home, I looked them up and decided to try a lot of menu items. Located in a safe place that's easy to access and park, Big Rob's is a simple restaurant with a large dining room adorned by large TVs and rustic tables while their menu has limited adult beverages and a basic menu featuring quality burgers. When I walked in the waitstaff was extremely friendly and quick to grab my order. Around 1pm on a Thursday there were roughly 4 tables of customers so there's enough open spots if you want to dine in. I got in my SUV and couldn't open the bag quick enough to get a fried mushroom in my mouth. BIG MISTAKE as they were HOT. Besides my own stupidity, they were perfectly fried, great flavor with the perfect amount of breading. They come with ranch too, but unfortunately when I got home, my flame-tip Himalayan cat played hockey, spilling it everywhere. Honestly, they didn't need it. The onion rings were much the same, good breading and great flavor without being greasy, still it seemed like pre-bought bar food not scratch made items. Oh their milkshakes... just get one as they're very good made with real ice cream! Now the part I hate, pointing out areas of needed improvement. I got the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and corn. First off, the corn tasted like dirt, literally. It had no seasoning and tasted it was pulled out of a can and thrown on my plate without even S&P or butter. The mashed spuds also had little flavor displaying no love. I was hoping I could taste some butter, cream, something to elevate it above mediocre, alas it wasn't meant to be. Now the steak was fried well, not being greasy or tough but crunchy and breaks apart in the mouth. This was the soul winner of the dish. Finally, the gravy wasn't much to speak on, continuing on the tradition of being as basic without soul as the dish could be. At least it had the right consistency and was hot. Now, lets spark some enthusiasm and hope, shall we? I got a custom burger ordering a burger with bacon, onion, avocado, mushroom, Swiss, egg, lettuce tomato and mayo. The only issue I had was the nicely toasted bun needed mayo on BOTH buns. The reason is by the time I was done, the choice of bread was soggy, leaving me holding the meat almost in my hand alone. Eat fast kiddos! That said, the slightly under-seasoned burger was huge and juicy, not overcooked at all! The addons were plentiful and cooked well. My first bite broke the egg yolk oozing all down the sandwich, making me anticipate the first bite. Opening my jaw to snake like proportions and the first flavors and texture hit my tongue. The sharp Swiss followed by the sweet onion, earthy mushrooms, crunchy lettuce, juicy tomato, crispy bacon, and luxurious yolk all playing second fiddle to the wonderful meat. It was a symphony and I loved the whole experience. Overall, I found Big Rob's Burgers does burgers very well with a bar mentality. Items that tried to be outside of their selling point, ie diner like items were painfully average. From the moment I walked in, the vibe was welcoming and down-to-earth--exactly what you'd hope for in a good local spot. This is hands down the best burger place in Kyle! My favorite is the rise n shine burger. It's a delicious cheeseburger with a cracked egg on top. I always add avocado. Their buns are so good and I haven't tasted them anywhere else. They have amazing crinkle cut fries too. The service is fast. It is best to call ahead as they tend to be fairly busy especially during dinner. If you're looking for a good burger, I would definitely check this out. They do have a dining area, but it's not very big. I see some people sitting in there watching sports center and they have a small patio outside. For the amount you pay here, you would expect a huge burger. It's quite the opposite. Also, tater tots are $3+ and you don't get many at all. This place is good! I would compare the burgers to Mighty Fine for quality with some better seasoning on the fries. Price was cheaper than a lot of fast food nowadays and I also don't feel terrible after absolutely housing the burger I just got from Big Rob's. It was delish. And, I don't know what kind of bread they use for their buns, but it is not an H‑E‑B off the shelf like some false reviews related. After reading a lot of hype on the neighborhood pages, we wanted to give this place a try. It's easy to miss as it looks like a house from the outside and the parking lot is pretty tiny- in fact we had to wait for someone to leave for us to nab a space when we arrived at around 6:30 on a Saturday evening. That's always a good sign! We opted to start with just regular cheeseburgers instead of some of the amazing sounding specialty burgers they have and were not disappointed! The burgers were juicy and well-seasoned and the buns were super soft and toasted to perfection! Although the menu states "All burgers are cooked well-done", my companion just had to ask if there was any wiggle room there. Nope! If you like your burgers a little pink in the middle, this is not the place for you. As for the sides, I had onion rings and boyfriend had crinkle cut fries. We brought home a crispy chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries for my son and onion rings were the clear winner! The crinkle cut fries could use some extra salt/ seasoning for sure. As for the crispy chicken sandwich? As soon as he was done eating it, my son asked me when we were going back, so I'd call that a two-thumbs up! Our waitress was sweet but didn't really seem to know the menu too well and definitely had no idea what beers were offered because she just pointed to the wall and eventually needed us to point out which ones we wanted (a Hopadillo and a Luckenbock). While recounting our experiences with local burger joints to our friend at the Design Center, she told us she had the best burgers from Big Rob's Burgers in Kyle. This place is a gem! While traveling to a family gathering, we found ourselves in Kyle. There are the usual chain restaurants all around but we wanted to try a local favorite. We saw great reviews for the burgers at Big Rob's and decided to give it a try. As soon as we walked into Big Rob's we were warmly greeted and seated. It has a nice casual, family-owned vibe and a few big screens on silent to occupy the kids and football fans. We noticed the tables are nicely spaced and there is also outside seating available. There are several hamburger and chicken meals to choose from. Although I was planning to order a cheeseburger, the chicken fried chicken dinner caught my eye. I'm a sucker for crispy fried chicken! It came with real mashed potatoes and gravy, Texas toast, and green beans with bacon like my grandma used to make. Oh my stars, it was good! This place serves delicious big burgers. I could only eat half of my bacon Swiss avocado burger but finished all of my yummy yummy sweet potato waffle fries. I have to say this is the best spot for those fries. My husband stuffed himself to finish the burger with jalapeños and fries because they were so good. We also had the fried mushrooms; they were pretty good but those burgers take the spotlight. I didn't have enough space in my tummy to try the funnel cake fries but I'll be sure to come back and try that because the picture looks so good and funnel cake is my weakness.
