Came in for a quick late Sunday lunch and had a great meal with tons of overordering. Its a very small spot that is essentially a converted house so it feels homey and quaint. As we walked in, we were greeted by who I assume is the owner and she let us know there was a free table next to her. Our waitress was super friendly and gave us chips and salsa shortly after being sat. The chips and salsa were excellent and I, as usual, ate too much. The salsa had a good spice and great flavor and the chips were very crunchy and crispy (like fritos but airier). I ordered a small menudo and chilaquiles with green salsa and both were really good. The menudo had a ton of flavor, good spices, and the stomach pieces were cooked perfectly; super tender and no, sometimes off putting, lingering offal smells. The chilaquiles were also great and the green salsa was mild and refreshing, with excellent side of potatos and beans. I could not finish my food as I thought the small menudo would be like a small cup not a whole bowl. I had also filled up on chips and salsa and our waitress refilled it so I had even more. All in all, this is an excellent little local spot for some bold flavors and fresh food. 5/5 for El Roble. You have to give them a try when you're in Kyle/ near Austin. They're kind of easy to overlook along 35 and the frontage road, in a little house. We were welcomed like we were old friends or family when we dined in on a recent weekend. Servings are generous and everything is well seasoned and flavorful. The ranchero chicken plate was great, not dry or overcooked, and I could make my own tacos with corn tortillas, and pile on refried beans, rice, lettuce, tomato, and avocado to top things off. Their chilaquiles plate was superb and paired well with their green sauce (they'll provide a large bottle to pour from), which my partner and I wanted to empty/take home with us (it's that good). Menudo isn't my preference but I gave it a try and it's rich, decadent, and pretty spicy. It seems like a great option on a cold day or as a comfort food. Every time I'm back in town, stopping here is a must. Unfortunately while their business hours online seem regular, half of the time I've come by they've been closed. No biggie because they are a small family restaurant, but be warned before you get too invested. However, I've found that you can always rely on them being open on a Saturday afternoon. The first time I came, I remember leaving extremely satisfied with the quality and flavor of their carne guisada. I have since had it in taco form twice more, with the second time being alright and the third time being a little disappointing. The meat was tough, so while I still have a positive opinion of the carne guisada on a good day whether it'll be a good day seems to come down to a roll of the dice. One thing I can't recommend enough is the barbacoa, I've ordered it every time and it is absolutely delicious. Good flavor, moist and tender, I like to eat it in a corn tortilla with chile verde and chile de arbol salsas on top. Something that is out of the ordinary about this spot is the fact that the tacos don't come with lime. I always notice after I've already finished eating, so I'll have to remember to ask next time. Other than that, the tortilla chips that come complementary are next level. There's a certain freshly fried sense to them, with good crunch and solid corn flavor. Apparently some customers like to just order the chips to go, so definitely don't plan on skipping this appetizer! read more

Someone made a comment about this being the best tacos in Kyle and I absolutely agree! I would definitely recommend going early because the line is long. I went around 11am and there was about 6 cars in line at the drive thru. They had a lady come outside to help take orders to move the line faster. Everything is fresh and made to order! The chorizo and egg was delicious! Tasted very authentic. The bacon, egg, potato, and cheese was good, but I probably wouldn't get it with cheese. I didn't like the taste of their cheese on it. Nevertheless, we received courteous and friendly service, plus food that was hot and was fresh. The tortillas are made fresh in house. The tacos, yummy. Hole in the wall mom and pop shop off the highway. Basic Mexican dishes with great flavor. Plates are large as well as the tacos packed with meat. Migas were very tasty. Eggs cooked perfectly. The location felt pleasantly rural and the interior was broken up into small, intimate rooms which I certainly appreciate. Unfortunately the breakfast fell a bit short of expectations. Keep in mind that I live pretty close to the Mexican border so we have the real deal all the time. Here I was disappointed that the tortillas and limonada didn't taste homemade. We were in the neighborhood and got a little hungry for some breakfast. Looked up places on our handy Yelp app and seen the rave reviews for this place. They even have a drive thru! It's a regular window but it works and that was a pretty good idea. I ordered the barbacoa taco with guacamole but got avocados instead. The barbacoa meat was really good so it didn't lack flavor and they put a good amount of meat in there, so I didn't mind the mix up. I also got a bacon and egg taco. It was good but I preferred the other taco. My husband ordered Migas plate with extra beef fajita meat. He said it was delicious. He likes the green sauce over the red but said they're both good. They have agua frescas and I got lemonade. It was very good and freshly made. They have lots to offer in a small spot. The service was on point and kind. The staff was friendly, attentive and accommodating. The food was not good. I had the carne guisada plate with beans and potatoes. The potatoes were old if at best; they tasted like freezer burn. The meat was an odd color of red rather than a typical guisada gravy color. The tortillas were store bought cheapo, not like the HEB bakery kind. My unsweet tea was good. I recently went on an excursion for the closest thing to a homemade taco in the Buda/Kyle area. Well I believe that I found it. It's called El Roble. Now mind you it's not your usual type of restaurant from the outside nor the inside for that matter. It's probably an old house that was converted into a taco shack. And it's something to make you do a double take. But regardless of the aesthetics the food is delicious. Especially the build your own tacos. You can pick and choose from the list of delicious ingredients and wonderful hot sauces. Yumm! The only thing that prevented me from giving this place 5 stars was because of it being so cramped up inside the smell of the chemicals that they use for cleaning the tables went up my nose and that was it for me. Little hidden gem that looks very discrete and non restaurant like when passing by. I am so glad I stopped by on a random search while my husband was admitted to the hospital nearby. Best tacos that we have had in a long while even with our normal old faithfuls back home. You can't beat bacon and egg and the bacon is cut up in pieces for ever bite of yumminess!!! The beans and salsa are just as amazing!!! Don't let the long drive through line discourage you stopping. They are eagerly come out and take orders.
