Met my family for dinner at the Torchy"s Tacos location in Kyle, TX. The parking lot was full but was eventually able to find a spot. Placed my order using a kiosk to avoid waiting in line. You can pay and assign a buzzer that lets you know when your food order is ready. I ended up ordering the bonfire bowl with salmon as the protein. The bowl included Cilantro Lime Rice, Black Beans, Spinach, Diced Mango, Pickled Onions & Jalapeños, Pistachios, and Avocado sauce. They brought my food to my table when ready. The bowl was a good portion size with 2 salmon filets. The salmon was seasoned well however there was a bone in one of the pieces. I loved the fresh mango and spinach. The rice was very flavorful but was a bit heavy. I was only able to eat half of the bowl and I was full and took the rest to go. We pushed two tables together in the dining area so members of our family could sit together. They had TVs playing sports and other funny clips for entertainment. I've been to several Torchy's in the Austin area over the years, and this one is the worst! This review is based on our experience the evening of October 1, 2025 Food: our tacos were served cold, very disappointing Service: extremely slow service; most likely, the service delays resulted in our cold tacos. Total time from ordering to being served our tacos was approximately 30 minutes. We spoke to the staff about the slow service and they were ambivalent. I used to frequent the Torchy's in the Northwest Hills area off Spicewood Springs. That was a great location. I've also eaten at the Torchy's in Cedar Park. This is close to Kyle and I35 with easy on and off ramp if you are traveling but that is the only positive if you come here for food. Bar: nice big bar area and bartender with customers being served but I did not try the bar since I was traveling. I chose Torchy's 1) because I love the original location and their tacos and the combo of flavors are amazing! I have also eaten at the Round Rock location, but this location needs some major help to reflect Torchy's tacos. If you come here you will be sadly disappointed. 2) I was on a tight schedule to get to San Antonio. Normally Torchy's is fast and I chose this over Rudy's. This location is slow and I should have gone to Rudy's. Arrived: one customer in line ahead of us. We ordered 4 tacos (2 per person) and water. We sat and then noticed others waiting. 4 more customers arrived and one was a pickup order, waiting. I started my timer, at 25 minutes of waiting for 4 tacos we inquired and asked if we could get a refund, was told we are up next. Okay we waited, we finally got our tacos at 30 minutes! We went to Lupe's Tortilla for Valentine's Day. To our surprise they had no electricity to operate. We were parked in Lupe's Parking across the street when I saw Torchy's . Torchy's, Why would you take the Holy Diver off your menu? I haven't enjoyed a taco that much in a long time! The crunchy, sweet and spicy of it all --it was so dang good! I tried it for the first time today, and the shrimp was cooked to perfection, while the toppings made every bite incredibly flavorful. Also, it was a little bit messy and I didn't mind one bit. The queso was so on point that I had to physically put it away to stop myself from eating it. And when did you all start offering peanut butter cookies? My favorite cookie--and absolutely delicious! We all know Torchy's has changed a lot since it's grown. All Austin locals will say this. The one thing that is most frustrating is the lack of consistency. I have loved the fajita plate since they first put it on the menu. It's perfect in price, flavor and size. Love it love it love it. What I don't love? That the Kyle Torchy's 100% of the time makes it wrong or forgets something. Things that have been left off? Cheese. Tortillas. Guacamole. Like, how?? These are staples of this item. Things I asked to be left off, but got anyway? Cilantro (it's soap to me) and lettuce which is always a wilted sad mess by the time I get home which is why I don't want it. The cilantro results in me having to toss half the rice since they INSIST on dropping a handful on top of it. It's just so frustrating. It makes me feel like their employees don't care. This happens whether they're busy or not, so it's not a matter of them being busy. I also love their breakfast tacos. What time do they open? 10am. So either be ready for brunch or starve until they open. I'm still gonna go, but having to triple check my order every time is annoying and I wish they'd care more. read more

This is the second time we've had Torchy's and it was good. I'm sorry I didn't get pictures but I will next time. We ordered online and went through the drive through to pick it up. The lady was really nice and made sure we had everything we needed. I ordered the steak fajita taco and the street corn. Hubby ordered a meal which included a taco, chips and queso, and a drink. He got the republican taco and added a trailer park taco. He couldn't stop eating the chips and queso! The corn was tasty. We were thrilled when Torchy's opened in Kyle! We enjoyed it when we ate at the one in SoCo, so we were hoping it'd be good! Thankfully, it is! We really like the staff here. Everyone has always been so nice and accommodating, and they're all very informative when ordering. The restaurant is also very clean, and I love the bar and restaurant vibe + outdoor seating. They have a great gluten free menu, and I think my favorite is The Democrat! So tender, delicious, lots of filling and not too greasy! I also really like the Crossroads with brisket. I also really like the Republican which is jalapeño cheddar sausage. Hubby really likes the Trailer Park Trashy, while the Brushfire was a huge hit with the jerk chicken! (Note: I write Facebook reviews for residents of Turner's Crossing, a new development in Buda, as we all learn about good places to dine in Austin.) ------------- I had not intended to review a restaurant tonight, but after a spur-of-the-moment decision to dine out, I thought I should tell you about this eatery that is so convenient to Turner's Crossing. I'm just going to write enough to either pique your interest or turn you off to the place. Karen and I passed Torchy's Tacos in Kyle, probably about five or six miles from us, a couple dozen times and had heard good reviews about it. So, we stopped in for dinner tonight. We both enjoyed it and agreed to return someday, probably after we first check out several dozen other eateries in the area. I don't think we have yet scratched the surface of what is only minutes from Turner's Crossing. We had little idea what to expect, but realized right away that this is far from an upscale Taco Bell. There was a full-service bar with three big televisions to the right of the ordering station. You can pick from an interesting selection of margaritas, plus a rotating assortment of beers and wine. There is no table service, so you stop at a counter section to place your food and drink order. They give you a number to set on your table, and a few minutes later one of the staff brings your food out to you. It's all quick and efficient. The atmosphere is somewhere between a fast-food place and a full-service restaurant. We noted that the place is kept very clean, as we saw someone carefully sweeping while there didn't appear to be very much if anything on the floor. Karen had the Baja shrimp taco ($5.85), described as grilled shrimp, cooked cabbage slaw, pickled onions and jalapeños, cotija cheese, cilantro and a lime wedge with chipotle sauce on a corn tortilla. She said it was chock full of shrimp and was delicious. I went with the Airstream salad ($9.50), loaded with fajita chicken, romaine, spinach, arugula, mint, avocado, pico de gallo, grilled corn relish, cotija cheese, and pistachios with a side of champagne vinaigrette and a drizzle of chipotle sauce. This was definitely not an ordinary salad. I enjoyed it and the bits of crunchy ingredients that were a part of it. Portions were ample and so were some of the prices, which is why Taco Bell can exist comfortably nearby. You can eat cheaper at a lot of fast-food places like Taco Bell, but not nearly as well. Torchy's is still not a pricy place, just not ultra cheap. The stuff here is satisfying, interesting, fresh and tasty. If you like being adventurous with this kind of food, you won't be disappointed. Both our meals were damn good, which just so happens to be Torchy's motto posted throughout the place. I'm not gonna even try to list the unusual and enticing dishes on the menu. Just Google Torchy's Tacos and check the menus. The name alone on some of the items are enough to get me to try them when we return. read more

It was kind of expensive to me for what you get. Each taco was around 5 to 7 dollars and I easily ate two and could have eaten three. Between the two of us, we got three tacos, water,didn't even pay for a soda, and chips with three different types of dipping sauce and it was over $30. You serve yourself, get your own drink, and buss your own table, but still there's a spot where they ask for a tip when you pay? There are different levels to fast food based primary on quality. Admittedly I sometimes enjoy the lower tier tex-mex options just as much as the full-service establishments. So where does that leave my first visit ever to Torchys? Well, all over the board really. Kyle finally has a Torchy's thus close enough for me to try. The building is brand spanking new and I thought they had a drive-thru but the sign was misleading instead indicating app orders only. A bit discouraged as I still had on my house clothes, I went inside to order. I was there at 11am on a Friday and most were sitting down not in line. The place is very clean as a new facility would be but devoid of any interesting atmosphere. Almost like an assembly line for lunch or dinner in a faster than formal yet slower than fast food setting. I placed my order and told them I can't eat hot food as I have a medical condition. That means "white man mild" but truth be told I can handle a weeee bit more but not by much. That was for the chips and salsa. Scanning the menu, there are a good number of options to choose from so I sampled a few items. My order only took roughly 5 minutes and I was back in my truck driving home. The chips are perfectly cooked, thin, crispy and lightly salted. The salsa on the other hand is hot. So, either they only have hot salsas or the lady didn't get my order right. Probably the later. It was tasty and had more character than other places but not as traditional as I like but I don't frown on preference items for reviews. Next up was the Baja Shrimp Taco. This was pretty good. 4 good sized shrimp deep-fried on a corn tortilla topped with slaw, pickled onions, cotija cheese, cilantro and japs with lime wedge. Everything was fresh and was devoured before I even realized it. The next up was the Tipsy Chicken. Grilled chicken, spinach, corn, green chilis, cheddar cheese with chipotle sauce on a flour tortilla and a bacon bourbon sauce. My taco was missing the corn which was discouraging while it had a ton of cheese, almost like a grilled cheese taco. Both sauces were on the side and the chipotle sauce didn't have much flavor while the bacon bourbon sauce had no bourbon flavor in it. All in all a 5 and corn would have been a 6. Lastly I was looking forward to my grande burrito! I ordered the chicken but I got the beef. Three items weren't right with my order but I'm a trooper so I soldier on! The beef was extremely dry just as I thought it would be after realizing it wasn't chicken. There was barely any rice to speak of while having a ton beans. Overall, it was unbalanced and with all due respect I kept thinking it was the red headed step child of a more famous burrito restaurant. Skip this option unless you're in a zombie apocalypse. In summary Torchy's has some things to tighten up but they just opened so this is to be expected. Their food for the most part was above adequate and tastier than some of their faster competition. Their attention to order details needs to be improved which should be easy enough. However, their quality doesn't quite meet the standards of a higher scale restaurant. It's a real head scratcher where this sits in my food bank as it straddles several culinary lines. I'll give it another shot again... someday but not in the near future. read more

This place was the place to go for tacos. Their queso is the best there is. But ever since they changed the chips for the cheap thin ones that are flavorless and seem more like a this crispy garbage of a chip and their corn tortillas now is just one terrible doughy type, The service is ok, nothing special and yeah atmosphere is typical for whoever wants a drink, but the corn tortillas and the chips are absolutely gross. I absolutely love Torchy's and since the San Marcos location closed this is the next best thing. Unfortunately, the service and quality received at this location is under par. Every time I order grilled chicken tacos I can never be sure if the chicken if fully cooked. It's pink and too chewy which always freaks me out enough to not finish the tacos. This has happened the numerous times I've been there. The staff also isn't the nicest. I will order togo or through the ipads in the restaurant and there isn't an option sri add sauce or lettuce to some tacos so I will ask the staff at the front. They often act inconvenienced by this, even though if there was a way for me to add it I would. Otherwise, very cute location in a great spot. read more

I was so excited for this location to opne since I live so close! The restaurant is large and has alot fo outdoor seating! Right from the start of ordering we had a great experience. The gal we had take our order was so friendly and just made me excited to eat there! After ordering the food came quickly and we had no issues. The tacos are huge and the salsa and queso servings are also huge! They have foil and Togo containers for those items which is a nice to make taking food home easy! The chips were the freshest I've ever gotten at a Torchy's and the half order of queso was free for joining the loyalty club. That drive thru pick up window was super convenient too. Fast and friendly service, hope the new never wears off. Since we didn't dine in and used the pick up window, the only thing I can say about the ambiance is the parking lot was clean and the flow of parking and traffic well done.
