Absolutely heavenly. Extraordinarily well grilled steak and pork!! Ignore the bad reviews and taste the perfection. Mouthwatering fish tacos with fresh slaw and delicious crema. The asada and pastor tacos were amazing - stuffed with perfectly seasoned meat from end to end. I ordered for pickup and it was ready in five minutes, ready at the front and the host was waiting for me with a smile. Such a friendly and professional staff. Bright and welcoming interior. Easy to access location right off the interstate. The red salsa is less hot than the green, which I'd say is medium. I ordered this through DoorDash and I loved that they had Mexican Coke! Real Mexican Coke with the labels, as you can see in my picture. I will order from here again and again. I was astonished that the reviews were so awful for this location - until I read them. I served for 3 years in college and every restaurant deserves a fair and honest review of their food, hospitality, and ambiance - the kitchen staff and front of house are working hard!! Pretty overpriced for what you get. Jalisco's prices like an upscale spot but doesn't deliver the food to match. Mini street tacos were $20, and most other plates ran $25-30+, so I went with the burrito instead just to keep the bill down. At $18, it arrived solo, no rice, no beans, nothing on the side. The queso appetizer was the same story: just melted cheese, no peppers, no mix-ins, like they microwaved a block of Velveeta and called it done. I don't mind paying more for great food, but this felt like fast-casual portions and effort at fine-dining prices. Skip it unless you're fine paying a premium for the basics. read more

Not too shabby of a restaurant. Great and attentive service. The environment is very typical of Mexican restaurants in the South Texas area. Tables and booths are available. There is art on the war showing ranchers scenes and scenes of agave cultivation. They have a bar that serves a variety of drinks. Other folks at are table drank wine. I ordered a Bloody Mary. My drink was fine, but lacked character... I mean to say it wasn't anything special. I ordered pork chop a lamezicana. You got to medium sized pork chops covered in grilled onionss, jalapenos, and tomatoes. The plate also came with Mexican rice and refried beans on the side. I chose flour tortillas, since I don't get a lot of those in El Paso. Our orders came out pretty fast, even when our server overlooked or misheard our order for my daughter's brunch plate. After a football game we were looking for late night dinner. Saw the reviews here but as a frequent traveler, I used Google maps for more current reviews. Google Maps was 4 stars m, so we rolled in about 20 minutes before closing. We elected to sit at a bar table. The bar was busy, we had quick service, and the food was fantastic. This is the WORST dining experience we have had in a long time. I knew it was questionable when we entered and there were only 5 tables in use, including our own, on a SATURDAY NIGHT! I am on blood thinners. I am allowed ONE alcoholic beverage WITH a meal. I LOOK FORWARD to this. I do NOT drink alcohol otherwise. Not at home. NOT EVER. ONLY when we go out to eat. I really look forward to a cocktail when we dine out. This restaurant included no or VERY LITTLE alcohol in their "margarita" and I KNOW THIS because I have NO TOLERANCE for alcohol. As well, I am on blood thinners, and alcohol hits me very quickly. I walked out of there without so much as a little buzz. NOTHING. I could have been drinking water. I can get drunk on 4 oz. of wine. NO tolerance. NONE. I ordered TWO margaritas on this night and from this restaurant, just to check my theory. NO buzz. NOT even a little. This is a restaurant's method of saving themselves money. Cut the alcohol and fill it with lime juice. Who gets burned? The patrons who are PAYING for these drinks. NOT OK. They can deny cutting out the alcohol with ANY OTHER CUSTOMER. Not with someone who is on blood thinners, though. I KNOW how alcohol affects me. I KNOW my tolerance. I ordered TWO cocktails, I didn't eat my meal, and I stood up and walked out as though I had been drinking WATER. They couldn't ADD A LIME just to "pretend"? Good grief! Back to the part about my not eating my meal. I was drinking on an empty stomach. The reason I didn't eat my meal is because our daughter ordered a shrimp cocktail. It came with only 6 TINY shrimp. SIX. She fished them out and counted them. She was still hungry. I ordered a burger and fries as it seemed safest. I gave her my meal. My husband ordered Menudo and the Chimichanga. As I hadn't eaten my own meal, I asked for a bite of his Chimichanga. It's a Mexican restaurant. The Chimichanga is ALWAYS good, everywhere we have been. I asked for a bite. I IMMEDIATELY KNEW it was a mistake. I reached for a new napkin, spit the mess out, and my husband said, "We need to leave. This is awful." He did not finish his meal. It tasted like what wet cat food smells like. I'm not exaggerating. I do not recommend this establishment. I am EXTREMELY perturbed that they would skimp out on the alcohol in their cocktails. They can deny it, but again, NOT with someone on blood thinners, who has NO tolerance for alcohol anyway, and who DOES NOT DRINK except for the once a month [if that] dining out experience. How DARE you charge what you do for a cocktail and not include the alcohol? People need to know this. Now, they will. The food is terrible. We are NOT returning. I included an image of the "mocktail". NO alcohol was included in the making of that cocktail. Trust me. I ordered TWO for the sake of my OWN EXPERIMENT, and so I could write this HONEST review. I didn't eat my meal and hadn't had anything to eat since 10:30 in the morning. We were there at 6:30 pm. I am a woman of 118 lbs, 5'4", on blood thinners, no tolerance for alcohol anyway as I don't drink otherwise, and I had ordered and consumed 2 of your "margaritas" just to prove my point. We came for my birthday, and I used to love this place so much, but even the food runner girl had a terrible attitude arguing with us about a dish that we ordered that to her "didn't exist" but it was clearly stated on the menu. The manager came and he explained it to us, and he was polite and fine. But the hosts had an attitude, the bartenders ignored us when all we wanted to do is pay for our drinks. I've given them a couple of chances with my last few visits because they used to be so good. I went recently and ordered the $30 El Patron plate. It was supposed to be a 7 oz grilled steak, well it came out as mostly fat, like 50% of it was a big slab of fat. It was laughable they even served it. This happened last time I was there as well. They also did not cut the steak or the chicken that came with it. It was the most minimum effort by the kitchen. The two shrimp wrapped in bacon were extremely over cooked and not good. I will say the rice and beans are always good. At another recent visit, we ordered large draft beers, which had spoiled, and were not drinkable. They did exchange them but not without talking to two separate managers (?) about it and making us feel like we were the problem. Come here often, weekly , sometimes twice in a week. This is the third time this has happened and I think I am done here for a while . Seated in a booth , 2 large tables close by. We sat for over 15 minutes , no drink order, no chips , no salsa , no "I'll be with you in a minute....meanwhile 3, not 1, not 2 but 3 tables seated after us have all been served drinks, the works. People continue to walk past us and no one even says a word!! The waitress I can only assume was ours had a big table of 12 and literally bringing the food from the kitchen one plate at a time to them. I was really rooting for Jalisco's, as the few times I've been here, the service has been the definition of southern hospitality. The servers are always the sweetest and give you what you need before you ask. The pricing for food is about on average, but the actual taste of the meal itself... yikes. Like most patrons have concluded, the food is bland. I've ordered from both the breakfast (by the way, served all day) and lunch menus, but no matter how you spin it, there is no seasoning or salt/pepper added in either. (Note: I write Facebook reviews for residents of Turner's Crossing, a new development in Buda, as we all learn about good places to dine in Austin.) ------------- Karen and I figured it was another great day for a late lunch/early dinner to take the place of two usual daily meals. So, after my dentist put away his instruments of torture and assured me that it was safe to eat on my repaired tooth, Jalisco's was our choice. Jalisco's is probably only 10 minutes from Turner's Crossing and is one of the best authentic and Tex-Mex eateries that we have found anywhere. That's why we have been there about 10 times in the nine months we have lived in Buda. If you have not tried this convenient place yet, I urge you to check it out. It is in the shadow of Cabela's, in the restaurant-filled strip off Main Street near I-35. Jalisco's only has two locations in the Austin area, and last year opened Taco Clem in Buda, a very good, fast-food place that I will review another time. One thing in its favor when we decide on a combo afternoon meal is that lunch specials are in effect until 4 p. m. A revamped menu lists an extensive selection of lunches, all with generous portions and extremely reasonable prices. Unless somebody proves otherwise, I think most are dinner-size meals at reduced prices. Jalisco's is a spacious, comfortable place with plenty of booths and tables, surrounded by attractive, low-key, Mexican-motif decorations and paintings. Table service is also available at a roomy patio. The wait staff is friendly and efficient. We always appreciate the fact that the noise level seems to be minimal for conversation, unlike some large restaurants. I spotted something on the new menu that was just perfect. It's a lunch portion of chicken fajitas ($12), which comes with two warm tortillas, a mound of guacamole salad, and the usual refried beans and Mexican rice. The typical fajitas at other places are usually meant for dinner or two to share and come with three tortillas and a larger serving of chicken or beef, peppers and onions and the usual fajita accoutrements. It's just too much for one person, says the man now on a diet. The tortillas were fluffier than usual, a welcome change from the usual flat and stiff tortillas at most places, making them easier to stuff and fold. The chicken was surprisingly juicy and tender. I'll have to try the lunch portion of beef fajitas ($16) another time. Karen ordered something she had tried before and enjoyed very much. It was the appetizer sampler ($14), a platter loaded with two chicken flautas, two stuffed jalapeños, two fajita nachos, one cheese quesadilla, queso dip, guacamole and sour cream. She brought enough home for another meal. ------------- Following are notes from previous visits to Jalisco's: ------------- It was time for a return lunch visit to this slightly upscale, Tex-Mex eatery. It was every bit as good as the first time about a month ago. Karen was pleased that she could order tacos à la cart. All she wanted was a shrimp taco, very reasonably priced. it came packed with five jumbo shrimp. Karen said it was probably the best bargain on the menu. Certainly one of the tastiest. She also wanted to try the tres leches dessert, and we split that. I had a nice-sized burrito, stuffed with tender chunks of lean beef and topped with cheese and gravy. Of course, the sides were refried beans and Maxican rice. The bowl of salsa that came with the complementary chips at our table was some of the best we ever had. Great flavor, and not too spicy. ------------- Went to Jalisco's again today for an early dinner. Lunch specials were still in effect. Choice of great TexMex or authentic Mexican food, listed separately on the menu. I had a huge burrito stuffed with beef, chicken, rice and beans. Cheese sauce over the top. It was on the lunch menu. Brought a chunk of it home. Karen had a half order of shrimp quesadilla and brought half of that home. ------------- For dinner today, it was back to Jalisco's in Buda, which has become one of our favorite Mexican eateries. Karen went with the shrimp enchiladas, complemented by creamy, refried beans and tasty Mexican rice. When she ordered, it sounded so good that I went with the same thing. I have never made a mistake getting what she does, and was again very happy with the choice. The shrimp enchiladas were magnifico. ------------- Mexican appetizers. It's what's for dinner. Karen saw this plate of assorted appetizers and figured that would make a great dinner. There wasn't a thing that she didn't enjoy. Quesadilla. Chicken flautas. Two small chili relllenos. Guacamole. In short: great aesthetic, friendly staff, totally meh food. My partner and I went in the evening; they have a lot of fun, colorful lighting outdoors and a bar with a gorgeous lit ceiling. It wasn't busy on a Wednesday night; we were seated right away and given chips. Sadly, those chips were my favorite part of the entire meal. I got an enchilada plate and while I was pleased by the quantity of shrimp used, they weren't the best tasting shrimp... The sauce was thin and tasted cheap. But the refried beans were worse. They tasted like garbage smells. Me and my partner couldn't stomach them and left them on our plate. I would've appreciated a more thorough application of cheese. The quantity of food was okay for the price tag, but not great. The chips and salsa were crisp and yummy though, but yeaaah... The inside of this joint is really spiffy. A lot of fancy architecture. I know this is a chain and I've only been here one other time. It was the location on Congress and William Cannon. I wasn't impressed. It seemed overpriced for what you get. We live in Texas, so there's too much good Tex-Mex to overpay and just get 'ok'. So when my friends wanted to meet up at the one in Buda I wasn't overly enthused. Especially since I couldn't even drink since I'm still engaging in dry January. The best thing about this place is the interior. It's very nice and comfy. Nice dinner atmosphere with the dimmed lights and TVs not too loud. My dinner partners seemed to enjoy their drinks. And I have to admit, they were huge. I think the prices ranged from $9-$14. Not too bad. The food prices weren't out of line either. I got ceviche. It was around $14 for a pretty big bowl so I couldn't complain. I think the prices are more in line now with inflation so NOW I think you'll be paying in line with other middle of the road restaurants like Casa Garcia's. The ceviche was good. It has a really nice twang from the citrus that wasn't too overpowering. Even though it had mandarin slices, which I was not wild about, it didn't give too much added citrus power. There also wasn't too much cilantro. I'm a cilantro lover but sometimes I find that restaurants over-do in this dish in particular. But not here. It was a very well balanced dish. Light but with such a big portion I definitely wasn't hungry after finishing. It was served with tortillas fried hard. It was a very nice combo. Was it the best I've ever had? Not even close. But would I come back and reorder if my friends want to meet here again? For sure! The waitstaff here was very friendly as well. We didn't wait at all to be seated. They were prompt with getting drinks and refilling my water (which I was gulping to stave off the lure of the mango chamoy margarita my friend got). I thought the waitress was incredible. Even after we'd paid the bill and were just hanging around for over an hour afterwards. My friends said she kept looking at us like she wanted us to leave, but I didn't notice that. This was my first time and, as a creature of habit, my go-to is always the flautas or the fajitas. I wanted to try something new, and our waitress recommended the enchiladas poblanas. Skeptical at first, but our waitress brought the poblano sauce to sample, and I was sold. I highly recommend that dish and promise you won't be disappointed. After a pretty frustrating adventurous night, we ended up here at Jalisco's. We literally went to 5 other restaurants trying to find a vegetarian meal. Marco's Pizza (out of dough), Double Dave's (closed even though the website & google maps said they were open), Willies (out of black bean burgers), a Thai food trailer (out of all the entrees), some other restaurant downtown Buda who said they had vegetarian options, but once we arrived, they literally had NOTHING. Oh, and then Chili's, who had a 15 minute wait at 9 pm at night on a Sunday. By that point, we were hangry and just wanted food, so we walked across the parking lot to JALISCO'S!! Olga was our waitress at Jalisco's and she was more than we could have hoped for. Bubbly, fun, amazing attitude, got all 4 of our orders absolutely perfect. We ordered an appetizer platter and the server brought one plate with apps then another plate with guacamole, sour cream, and queso. My mom reached over and took some queso then the server came back and took the second plate back. He put the queso on the table and walked off. Weirdest thing! No way would I want to eat something that had been on someone else's table. I ordered some poblano cream chicken. It was palatable but the veggies including the poblano were barely cooked. We came in for breakfast since next door Cracker Barrel had an hour wait. I had the American breakfast with 2 eggs over medium, 2 pancakes, a side of potatoes and beans. They charge extra for these, even though is listed it comes with it. The tiny disclaimer is there, but they make it seem like it comes with this and tortillas. They burnt my bacon to near nothing, and asked for more. I got the exact same thing-burnt bacon. It's like all their breakfast it's from under a light at a buffet. You can clearly tell it's not cooked to order. The coffee tasted old. My plate was around $20- ($13 for my plate, side of beans and potatoes, and a cup of coffee). Our daughter had the kiddie plate. My wife had the Al pastor taco plate. She said it was good. The only reason I'm giving them 3 stars is because my wife's plate was good. Otherwise, it would've been a solid 2 star rating. Truthfully, this place was no better tasting than a Taco Cabana IMO. The people here were very nice and accommodating. It was clean and well staffed. In that regards, I have no complaints. For the food, eh. The real only positive was the guacamole. It was very fresh and very good. You could tell it was made on the spot and had decent flavor. The chips though were very much out of a bag versus fresh. The enchiladas also tasted no better than any other below par fast food Mexican chain. I probably won't be back tbh. If I want this level of food, I will most likely go to Taco Cabana or just find a local Mexican spot to drop into. I decided to try Jalisco's yesterday with a to go order. The staff was friendly and the food came out quickly. My husband had the carne guisada and liked it. I had a taco on corn, in the car because I was starving, it was overall flavored well but the meat was dry and lime and salt wouldn't helped but wasn't offered with the taco. I order the flautas plate, which comes with 3 flautas, BUT one of my flautas was completely empty in the middle, there was only a little chicken on the ends. The other two flautas were barely filled with meat, making it hard to notice that the 3 was completely empty at first. The flautas plate is overpriced for the value. The beans and rice were fine, personally not my favorite and I kept tasting hints of coffee and I don't know why. On a positive note, the chips are delicious and the food stayed warm until I got home (20 minute drive). I wouldn't go out of my way to try them again though. read more

Prices are high for the quality and the atmosphere is lacking. Two entrees and two drinks were $80. The food was bland and we both left with upset stomachs, which I've seen other reviewers mention. First time visitor to Jalisco's. My mom and I were in town from the DFW area to visit friends we hadn't seen in several years and they highly recommended this place. We were greeted, promptly seated, and given chips and both mild/spicy salsa. . This was immediately followed by Jalapeño Margaritas. I was debating between that and the Frozen Prickly Pear, but the Jalapeño edged it out just a tad. I will just have to go back for it and the dessert I never got around to eating because we were all pretty full by then. What we received was phenomenal and authentic food and great service in a friendly atmosphere. The mariachi band was playing when we were there on Wednesday, July 25th. My mom ordered the Chicken Enchiladas with Poblano Sauce with Black Beans and Rice. I ordered the Shrimp Enchiladas with Rice and Charro Beans.
