We visited this nice neighborhood Thai place in Oak Hill on a quiet weekday evening. We ordered a panang curry with vegetables and a large bowl of tom kha soup with vegetables. The tom kha was great, it had a good tangy flavor and it carried the meal for me. The curry was a bit less of a hit from my perspective. I wished it was more creamy with more coconut milk; it was a tad thin. The seating was wooden benches which were not quite comfortable. The cushions which were a decent attempt at padding the benches kept sliding. Service was friendly but slow; we had to ask a couple of times to get warm water. I was encouraged by the 4 stars on Yelp. We live just behind Thai taste, and didn't want to travel as far as we normally do for our favorite Thai. The food was extremely disappointing. Had the app sampler and laughed out loud when we saw it was just one of each item for $14. Everything was clearly pre-prepared frozen food. The fresh spring roll was identical to HEB and I know bc I had one for lunch that day. The rangoon was not bad. Everything else was. The chicken wing was dry and leathery. The tofu hard. Also had pineapple fried rice, which was pretty good, except we ordered pork and got chicken. The pad Thai was AWFUL. Flavorless mush. It was made with round rice noodles, like vermicelli. Complete waste of money that went into the trash. We will be making the commute next time! read more

Monday it was exceptionally cold in Austin. We are in town for a job & cold weather makes me want Thai food. We were greeted as we walked in which started us off on a good note. We ordered Hot Jasmine tea which was perfect. We ordered Crab Rangoon which I must say is the best I've had in forever. There was an ample size filling & the crusts was cooked perfectly. I usually don't like the dip because it's too sweet but this was very fresh & spicy ...Yummy! My husband had the Pad Kee Mao & really enjoyed it. I had Basil Fried Rice with chicken ( could have used a little more chicken) it was good too. The plates had a nice visual presentation as well. I was very tempted to gatekeep this place but I just can't. My family loves pad Thai and shrimp spring rolls and have tried several places around town. This is my first time here and I just kind of stumbled upon it after getting my haircut next door, but I'm so glad I did! It's so good! The Pad Thai is kind of sweet but so good. Hubby and I dined here last week for lunch and it was quite pleasant. The interior decor is simple and clean. We were quickly seated and served. Nice portion of food at a reasonable price. Hubby ordered the Tiger Cry (8oz steak) while I enjoyed the Pad Garpow Kai Dow (stir-fried grounded chicken). I asked our server to make my dish mild and it was very delicious. Where to begin? Having moved from north to south Austin a couple of years ago I was bummed thinking that I was leaving all the good Asian food Austin had to offer. Fortunately, I was wrong. Thai Taste is a hidden gem of southwest Austin and offers a wide variety of traditional and fusion Thai food. I love their pad thai and shrimp spring rolls. They're a must have every time I visit. Over time, I've tried other dishes and these do not disappoint. Instead, Thai Taste surprises me every time. The service and staff are great too whether you are dining or grabbing take out. The restaurant has a calm and quiet ambiance and fortunately draws a good crowd daily (from what I've seen), which is a testament to how good their food is. I recommend you check them out! read more

Got delivery from here this weekend, and I was pretty impressed. This may be my new go-to. The fried rice was a large portion, and tasted great. The noodle soup was yummy as well, although the pork was very dry, but this may have been due to it being delivered. I had a love/hate relationship with The beef salad. The beef had an overwhelming charred flavor and there were too many onion slices, but it was super fresh and the dressing was delicious. Really made me want to try the waterfall beef. I'm usually not a fan of shopping center restaurants, because for whatever reason my brain decided that, it's probably the aesthetics, not sure. This place is a diddy! So this place, shopping center and all, is on point. The Thai Tea looks dank, haven't tried but it's on the list. They serve the drinks in these thin metal cups that have these intricate designs pressed in them. They are weirdly cool and keep your drinks cold. Might be the original Yeti, who knows. I got the Yellow Curry dish today which didn't disappoint. It has a thinner broth than I'm used to, making it almost closer to a soup. I ordered from this place weekly, sometimes multiple times a week...until today. Placed an order through Uber eats for a usual dish, spring rolls, thai tea, and edamame. Much to my abhorrent shock, I opened the edamame container to find a dead cockroach and other bugs. After I got over my initial shock and nausea, I called the restaurant since I'm a usual customer to see if they had an explanation. The lady says to me "yea, it happens sometimes. Not in our control. You can call Uber eats to get a refund. That's it - she did not sound surprised/shocked/apologetic at all. I will not be going there ever again. Unfortunate because I actually liked this place. Service was meh; I came in during a slow lunch by myself, and waited at the front for several minutes in an empty lobby until someone finally came out and sat me. getting my bill delivered to me and then paying took me flagging down a server each time as no one checked on me at any point during the meal. bland service is honestly whatever imo, but the food here is bland at best. they offered me a soup or salad with my meal which seemed weird, but I picked salad. it was iceberg lettuce with a single tomato slice and some kind of... peanut sauce? didn't have any flavour so I'm not sure I ordered the Pad Snowpea with chicken. first, there no sauce on this. just a ball of rice next to a lump of sad, unseasoned veggies, though it was wading in a pool of murky veggie water. the rice was crunchy in parts. the chicken was unseasoned and bland. the veggies were sad. while nothing was actively wrong, this was the boring, tasteless thing I've ever eaten. my dish was only $9 but still feels overpriced for what I got. the Thai iced tea was decent. overall, don't go here. save your time and money and go to Eurasia across the street if you want Asian food. read more

I went on my second Hinge date here, and I am so glad we checked this place out. Thai taste is a low-key restaurant. The restaurant closed for remodeling in November. After seeing the remodeling results, I love this place's aesthetics! There is usually only one waiter, and it tends to be the same friendly and kind face. The waiter was super attentive and was quick to get our order in. She made sure we got our water refilled as needed. One thing that I love about this place is that it offers the best food at a great value! This restaurant is a hidden gem, and I hope it stays that way. I loved that the atmosphere allowed me to have a stimulating conversation with my date. The Thai coffee, shrimp spring rolls, and the Tom Yum are a must at this spot. My date had the pad Thai and devoured every bite. Thai coffee is my favorite drink to get here. The smell was irresistible, and the presentation was beautiful. Thai Taste is my go to takeout place in Austin! I always order the pad thai (4 out of 5 spicy - be warned, this is really spicy!) and a side of egg rolls or crab rangoons. A lot of the other Thai places in Austin make their pad thai too sweet or without enough peanut sauce, but Thai Taste has the balance just right.
