First off, parking in front? You have to scan the QR code and pay by phone. So we parked in a parking lot about a block away. Very easy walk. We ordered at the counter, they give you a number and bring you your food. The young lady at the counter was very nice and friendly. Very personable so 5stars for the customer service. Inside is clean and it's much bigger inside than it appears from the outside. Very interesting decor, not sure if it's a theme, it's kinda miscellaneous with pictures and stuff. There is about 8 booths and a long table in the middle. Plenty of seating. They offer plenty of condiments and self service water. There are napkins at the table. Which I loved. Now for the food. We ordered the Nashville chicken biscuit sandwich and the classic chicken biscuit sandwich pimento mac and cheese and red beans and rice. I would have preferred my Nashville chicken sandwich to be a bit spicier with more sauce. The biscuit was phenomenal! It's served with what seemed to be house made pickles. Or the pickles I've purchased at the Olympia farmers market. Absolutely delicious pickles. The pimento mac and cheese was good but the Star of the show was the red beans and rice! I was pretty disappointed and not impressed with their food. The Mac wasn't bad just felt like the chicken was bland and missing flavor. The beignets weren't flavorful either. Ordered a six piece fried chicken meal, and several sides. Their chicken is advertised as "double-fried" Nashville Hot chicken. I've eaten fried chicken in Nashville ... this ain't that. More like Olympia Washington Barely Fried Once Tasteless Chicken. When we ordered the chicken, we noticed they didn't include breasts as one of the parts. Weird but fine ... then we get our order and it's 6 chicken wings. At $36 (after tax) that's $6 a wing. I felt less ripped off after the first time I was mugged in NYC. The sides were mediocre at best ... somehow they made hushpuppies dull and rubbery. But at least it took them half an hour to cook everything. I later found out that the place was owned by the same people that opened up Chickory (now closed) and it all made sense. Do yourself a favor, go to Popeyes. read more

Well she's done it again! An amazing spot from an amazing chef. Great service, great vibe and great food. This is a perfect casual lunch or dinner spot with incredible fried chicken and incredible sides. I like the 2-piece (bone in) - side of Mac and a lemonade. I can't recommend this place enough. I got two pieces of chicken, red beans and rice, and a roasted beet salad, which I ended up taking home. The water, tea, and lemonade are all self service, which was really handy! The chicken is absolutely outstanding--maybe the best I've ever had. Of the sides I got to try, the beans and rice were so yummy I nearly licked the bowl clean. The biscuits are also soft, fresh, and huge. I can't wait to come back here! I heard that this restaurant was being run by the kitchen of Chickory, so I was jazzed about it, but it was not okay. The chicken was fine- crunchy and salty, but the cole slaw was a little on the vinegary side even though it was supposed to be sweet, but it succeeded at neiter. I got a sad salted caramel cookie and a Mexican Coke and all that together was a $40 plate. Excuse me? 2 pieces of chicken, a side, desert and drink. Plus the staff isn't very friendly. They hung around joshing with each other and sometimes they addressed the customers. Well this is a breath of fresh air. It's something we desperately needed here in, OLY. There are some good places to eat here, but there's not a ton of variety and there's not a lot of options. The Gold Standard was wonderful. It's got a really nice ambiance, an incredibly friendly staff and the food was pretty awesome. I tried the chicken sandwich on a bun, in retrospect it should have been a biscuit. You never know what biscuits. If they're not good they can be really bad. I had a biscuit separately and it was glorious. It was completely fresh and still warm as I saw them pulling them out of the oven. I'm not a big fan of cheese on my chicken sandwich so I could have done without that and they were a little heavy-handed on the Mayo but it was good. I would certainly make some adjustments and have it again. Also tried the banana cream pie which was outrageous, the beignet was good. They were light, fluffy, and not overly sweet. For me. The standout was the wings. They were exceptional. If I had a complaint, it's only that I didn't love my sauce options and I wish they had some hot sauces. Might be cool for them to collab with some local hot sauce folk. Can't recommend the Standard enough. Eagerly looking forward to going back. read more

Wow! So glad to finally visit this casual yet sophisticated eatery! Upon entering, we were warmly welcomed after a short wait in line. The restaurant was buzzing with diners on early Sunday afternoon. We loved the vintage vibes of their merch - shirts and coffee cups - that foreshadowed the well thought out and designed experience ahead. My husband opted for breakfast and I ordered the fall salad with chicken and a biscuit and iced tea. We received a number and found a booth and enjoyed the artwork and fine details during the short wait for our food. As we watched other orders come out laden with all types of delicious breakfast entrees, sandwiches, fried chicken and beyond, we knew we were in for a treat. My salad came, bursting with freshly roasted fall squash, fresh greens, crunchy parsnip chips, homemade tahini dressing and the star: an enormous, perfectly fried crunchy chicken thigh cut into strips. It was delicious and perfectly flavorful in every way. The breakfast entree included bacon, potato triangles, eggs and a biscuit which received a thumbs up from my husband. He also enjoyed some of the plentiful chicken and salad. The biscuits were a thing of beauty, soft in the middle, crispy on top and bottom and served with a salty (maple?) honey butter. The iced tea was fresh and refills were available from vintage style dispensers at the counter. We can't wait to return and try a few more things, the bakery case was full of more delightful biscuits, cookies, cinnamon rolls, and we saw a sign proclaiming evidence of banana cream pie. We also saw a list of sides that go along with the fried chicken and I feel certain that more goodness awaits on that list. This place is "everyone friendly" - a quick stop for families with children that is not stuffy and pretentious where parents will gladly pay a little bit more than a fast casual chain for a truly well crafted restaurant experience, an excellent brunch choice with friends, or an oasis for the single person just wanting to sit down to a simple meal in a quiet corner. read more

I ordered the fried chicken (since that seems to be their specialty) and a side of hush puppies. My companion, ordered a beignet and the roasted beet salad. She received a basket of about 8 small beignets. She thought she ordered just one. So, you get a good amount of beignets - if that is what you want. Ten minutes later they brought me my order. The two pieces of chicken were so small. I think I was stunned! I should have said something, but did not. I have never seen such a small drum stick and such a tiny thigh! I am surprised that a restaurant would choose to serve those two pieces of chicken to a customer. Again, wish I had taken a picture. If I had checked out their website, I would have known to expect just 4 small hush puppies. They were good though, with corn kernels and bits of onions mixed in. Disappointed that the cook was okay with preparing those small pieces, and then the waitress didn't question the order when she carried it to the table to serve to a customer! Arrived ~30 minutes after opening on a Saturday. Was about 50% full already. Seems to clear out relatively fast (20-30 minutes per table) so if it's full when you get there, just give it some time. You order at the counter, then seat yourself. They give you a plastic number card and then you place it on your table. Two 8-person tables and a bunch of two-person setups with a few booths. I had the 3-piece chicken (thigh, drum, wing) with BBQ sauce. Tender and crispy. No breast pieces available if that's your jam. I also got a small Mac & Cheese, small collard greens. I shared an order Beignets (8) and small Hushpuppies with my wife. Solid comfort food in a nice setting. Service was great and it's within walking distance of Percival Park and the Farmer's Market if you wanted to make a day of it. I'll be back. Probably will try a sandwich or salad next time. As a vegetarian, I was delighted that you can sub tofu for fried chicken. Everything I ordered as really great, including the cocktail. The ambience is casual and comfortable; the decor reminded me of a cool 70s cabin. Sadly, they ran out of beignets before I got there. There is one issue: they do offer gluten-free batter for the fried chicken, but then it is fried in the same oil as everything else, making it essentially no longer GF. You walk in and place your order and it didn't feel like much room to decide without being in someone's way. Beverage options were in an open refrigerator by the line. We chose water but didn't find ice. Our order was taken by a nice, helpful young man. You pay and tip once you order which means if you are leaving a tip, you are doing so before you get your meal. We ordered a mix of chicken and chicken sandwiches which was brought out to our table. The food was very good. The decor is simple and nice.
