This may be my new favorite restaurant in Anchorage. Everything we had was amazing. Food and drink.

Always exceptional! Lobster Mac for dinner, green tea crème brûlée for dessert. Service was excellent and friendly.

Service was top-notch from starting to finish. Excellent food with a ton of gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan options. Expect to spend $25-$40 on your entrée. Modern and relatively minimal, it's nice to find a restaurant without a fussy interior. Service was attentive but not pushy. The food was pricey, but the quality was good. I can't say we would go to Ginger often, but we would go back. The Tuna Tower could be a meal unless you share it. I ordered General Tso's chicken, which was tender and flavorful. Such an amazing spot! It isn't a very big restaurant which I liked because it wasn't too loud inside. The staff was friendly and we got all of our orders quickly. All of the food was amazing as well, the waitress recommended the general Taos chicken and it was great! The curry was also delicious. I also highly recommend getting the chocolate cake. Has vegan and vegetarian options but ask details. Vegan springrolls come with a cilantro sauce that has fish in it by default. Sweet chili sauce is a vegetarian option. Vegan curry was good. Banana lemongrass soup was delicious. Non-vegetarian options: General Tsoanders was good, as was the strawberry chill salad. And don't forget dessert. During home quarantine I am getting caught up on my Yelp reviews, so I wanted to clarify that my rating is based off of service BEFORE COVID-19. Our family always enjoys dining at Ginger whenever we are staying in Anchorage, Alaska. They have a lounge atmosphere with a menu offering a mixture of Pacific Rim cuisine appetizers and entrees, local microbrews and fun cocktails to choose from. We had reservations for 4:30 and were very specific because of the long work day and wanting to not make a super long day of it. Xmas celebration for 10 people. Last year no issue. This year it is like they had no idea. Said we had to sit on bar side and would not have access to restaurant menu. Keep in mind we made reservations. Ok so moved to bar. Other patrons saw our dilemma and tried to move to give us more room then the servers moved them back. Oh well that was a nice gesture. From there service was so slow. I think because they knew they were going to add on automatic gratuity of 18%. Well she lost out because more drinks and apps equals more tip. Slacker. Sorry but now I know why I don't go but once per year and this time we all agreed a drive south might be worth it. It returned to me with the potatoes still cold, maybe 2 degrees warmer than when I first got the dish. The food was quite good though and the drinks were tasty. After a day spent shredding the local skatepark and fasting - I was starving and ready to be an unashamed glutton. The place was packed when I arrived and being a loner for the evening, I opted for a place at the bar. The bartender was the sort of cool you would come to expect from a place such as Ginger's. I bounced my indecisive menu choices off the bartender after ordering a Stella Artois - he proffered that the general tso fried chicken was an excellent representation of the restaurant. Two boneless chicken thighs fried to a crispy perfection - dare I say they are twice frying like the Koreans do. A wonderful red curry brine, jasmine rice, and these wonderful pickles that really pulled the meal together. After stuffing myself alongside recent east coast transplants, I ordered a cappuccino and the green tea crème brûlée to finish the evening. Food is good, price is about right for location and chic-ness. I wasn't stuffed afterwards but content... Probably 3.5 stars on a bell curve. Ordered the general tso'sanders chicken and it's a nice crispy chicken with sauce drenched over it that didn't affect the crunch! The sauce is good but I did find it to be missing something (it's a bit sweet and I guess I was expecting more umami). I highly suggest making a reservation if you are going to eat here. The restaurant is quite cozy and they get busy really quick. Also, parking is awkward. If you are lucky enough, you might be able to get a curbside parking close to the restaurant or there is a parking lot right before it..expect to pay for it. This is located downtown next to Club Paris and the 5th Avenue Mall. With that being said.... The restaurant is actually quite lovely. The entire waitstaff is very welcoming and friendly. The interior is decorated very modern and well put together. The waiting area is pretty tight, so you might have to wait outside if you miss that window of opportunity to grab a seat while you wait. The drink menu offers a lot of options: many different beers that are brewed locally, a great selection of wine and an interesting selection of their signature cocktails. I ordered the lavender cosmo and original martini, the drinks were perfect. Not too crazy and not weak sauce. My husband ordered the ginger mojito ( he loved it, me..not so much- too earthy tasting for my liking) and the vieux caré..we both liked it. Definitely recommended ( like a sweeter Manhattan). They also served water from a glass bottle/carafe ..i know..water always taste better coming from a nice glass bottle, even if it's tap for all I know. Food was delicious! They have this Asian fusion going on..I like. I highly recommend the crispy Gouda risotto balls (sauce is yummy) for appetizers. We both ordered the New York steak with blue cheese crumbles on top...MmM!! The blue cheese wasn't overwhelming like some other places. Thank goodness! I had to add that the old fashioned drink here is one of the best in town.All the appetizers are good BUT this time the chicken lettuce wraps were at best, wet dog food style. We love Ginger, now that some of their menu items changed we wanted to go check it out. We started off ordering a couple of appetizers: strawberry chili salad for me and sweet & spicy crispy pork eggrolls for the hubby. They were both incredible! The appetizers were followed by my Vegan curry and his general tso'Anders fried chicken. My husband said the fried chicken was crispy to perfection. Both dishes blended together extremely well. Was a bit disappointed in our experience. The meal overall was tasty, but the presentation was awkward. In a container better suited for a sheet of brownies due to how shallow it was... instead it was filled with curry. The delivery driver apologized for some of the leakage, but it wasn't their fault. The packaging just didn't make any sense. The Panang beef curry was good, didn't blow our socks off but we enjoyed it. There wasn't as much beef as we would have liked. Given the amount of curry, there wasn't much rice - but that's not too big a deal. The spring rolls were good! Ultimately, it was a fine experience - nothing great nothing bad. Fun evening out. I went with the banana lemongrass soup and the fennel with coriander rubbed chicken wings. I almost ordered a second cup of soup. The blue cheese basil dipping sauce belonging to the wings also went really well with a bite of James' steak. We rounded out the meal with dessert. It is our first meal in Alaska! We are so happy to get a seat pretty fast on a busy Friday night at this very popular restaurant. I am craving for Asian food, so we choose this Asian fusion restaurant. It was amazingly delicious. The Mee Krob I got is like a Thai style stir fried noodles, with big prawns, porks and chicken. The flavor is spicy and sweet, but it's not spicy for me as I can handle spicy very well. I highly highly recommend this dish. My husband was very happy about his dish as well, the lettuce wraps with chicken, with a little curry flavor, it's quite great. The cocktail is nice too, a little bit slow, but we can tell they are busy, it's fine. And the service is very lovely. read more

I have not been to Ginger in many years and figured that it was time to try them again. My memory of Ginger wasn't all that good so I will admit, I went in with low expectations. We ordered some drinks and wings to start the night off. The drinks and wings were REALLY good, and the dipping sauce was awesome. If I just stopped there, this would have been a 4/5 star review. After the wings came and gone, our waiter took our order. The duck for me and Ahi Tuna for my friend. Ten minutes go by and the waiter returns and says, "You ordered the ahi right?" then rushes off and puts in the order. OK, that isn't a good sign. Dinner is going to run late. Over an hour after we arrived, we were served our dinner. My duck was ok, but not hot by any means. The seared ahi was left out a little long to the point where the rice sides had a little crunch. My friend asked if she could get something else after only two bites. She said that it was a no go. Instead, she ordered the curry with beef since she figured it would be fast. I ate my duck and she was served her curry. Again, she was not wowed by it. I took a bite and thought it tasted ok, but she said it was lacking spice and herb flavors. All and all, dinner could have been better. Service could have been better and a little faster as well. Drinks were awesome. Describe your favorite element of a hot cup or Brazilian coffee. Was it the nutty? The hint of cocoa? Did you know it was good but couldn't put your finger on it? That's how this restaurant felt. Walking in immediately introduced a question: dining room or bar? The bar side seemed a little less crowded so we went with that space. The dining side also seemed a bit more formal and the bar side, while still nice, seemed a bit more casual. The menu offered many interesting choices. My wife went with the duck and I chose the Rocket Ranch Pork Chop. My wife thought the duck was cooked perfectly. My pork chop seemed a little rare and pink; however, I don't order pork chops enough to know the proper cooking color. And it was juicy and flavorful. So I rolled with it. As we were finishing dinner, I smelled the fresh espresso. It wafted through the entire bar. Excellent smell. Gonna try one of their espresso creations next time. read more

I was casually wandering downtown and was in a mood for steak. I stopped by Club Paris and their reservations were booked for another 3 hours. Hungry and willing to check some other place out I decided to start wandering again. I didn't get very far (next door) before I stumble upon Ginger. Ginger had been on my radar, though I wasn't necessarily in the mood for Asian Fusion. The catch? I was down to try it and there were a decent amount of attractive people in the restaurant (so shallow, I know). Anywho, went in a decided to give it a try. Alisha was my server and she did not disappoint in giving me suggestions on what to eat for dinner. I went with the Ahi Tower for an appetizer and believe it or not, wait for it, a RIBEYE for my main course. A ribeye, huh? From an Asian Fusion restaurant? I know, crazy, right? Yea, get over that real quick because it was delicious. Not your typical steak, potato and vegetable. I won't go into detail, but it was absolutely worth the try and I would soon order it again except I want to try all the other entrees on the menu. Now, it doesn't end here. There's another dark horse, and the horse is COCKTAILS. Q behind the bar (I'm not going to attempt to spell your name) worked tirelessly all night making delicious cocktails. I, myself am an Old Fashioned connoisseur, and I am sad I haven't found this place sooner. They make EXCELLENT old fashioneds and if they put half the work in my drink, your daiquiri, martini, spritzer, margarita will be absolutely amazing. Long story short, the experience was unexpected. While it was pretty slammed at the bar on a Saturday night, my bartender was handling things pretty well. He made me a solid old fashioned, and the spicy edamame I ordered popped out fast, and had a good kick to them. I got the Alaskan Mac and cheese with local scallops which was absolutely amazing. Not sure the brand because the waitress chose. The service for this particular rehearsal dinner was family style (shared plates). First came the appetizers. There was spring rolls, ahi tuna and rice balls. The spring rolls were amazing. I loved the sauce that came with them. They were crispy on the outside and the inside was cooked to perfection. I could have ate them ALL DAY. The rice balls were good However they were not as hot as I would have wanted off the gate. But perhaps I got one that was sitting for a bit. It happens! The jalapeño sauce that came with the rolls was delicious. Remind me of a spicy Queso. The ahi tuna was on point. Amazing. Bomb. Next came the entrées that we're family style as well. We had scallop macaroni and cheese, Pad Thai, spicy chicken, burger, frites, The pad Thai was out of Thai world. It was so tasty. The noodles cooked right, shrimp in the noodles was on point. Chicken - yum. But I found a bone.... But no biggie it happens glad it was me and not someone else. The chicken was also spicy, not a complaint but a caution. However, side note the food didn't make me sick of give me heartburn. Meaning the oil they fry it in is clean. Also the food is fresh with no weird products. Max and cheese- max and cheese was so good. It tastes like your mommas. The sack ops were also delicious although were only seared on one side. Burger - looked good but by the time I ate all the deliciousness below I was full. Same with the fry's, the kids seemed to love them and that is a must when eating with Children. (Children also enjoyed all the dishes.... + 100 pts in my book). The night ended with desserts that were tasty. The Cheese cake was super sweet and tasted like a jelly donut but in a good way! The chocolate cake was rich and sweet. All and all a wonderful night and the bride and groom couldn't stop swooning. That my friends is all the matters. My first review of Ginger was 14 years ago, last was about 11, so I'm probably overdue for another update. If you don't want to read my laboriously detailed review and want the TL;DR: go here. Go here even if you're not sure. If you like food, if you're a tourist, if you're a local who hasn't been sure about it, this is your sign to go! If you have dietary restrictions, you need to come here! Ginger remains one of my favorite restaurants in all of Alaska. I first came here when they opened back in 2007 -- I remember when they were just the skinny, narrow restaurant that occupied half the space before they expanded into the bar section with the hilarious ginger-themed paintings. I remember their delicious sesame-seed-studded crackers (that they don't serve anymore but they were SO GOOD!) And even though I have since moved away from Alaska a few years and have access to many more bougie restaurants where I live now, Ginger is something that I still crave on the regular: the wasabi mayo with the perfectly fresh and crisp pomme frites; the banana lemongrass soup (which I order sans crab) that I've converted countless friends to who thought "Banana? Soup?" was too strange but they loved it when they sampled from my bowl; the green tea crème brûlée that is out-of-this-world and I don't care what the cranky boomer at the table next to me who complained about the green tea flavor because he looked like the kind of guy who thinks flour is spicy. I have never had a bad meal here. I've never had bad service. I have never, ever been disappointed and I have probably visited here 50 times over the last 16 years, probably more. Every time I return to Alaska, it wouldn't be a trip without visiting Ginger. I've seen some Anchorage restaurants struggle post-COVID (and quietly wept over some mainstays that have passed on) and understanding the status of the food service industry here, Ginger still persists. They have cut back their hours (Monday and Tuesday closed), which initially caused panic to my heart, but they seem to be doing so very well. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough and I selfishly want them to succeed so that every visit back to my second home, I will have a reliable and delicious restaurant that will accommodate so many tastes. It can satisfy so many appetites and preferences; it accommodates vegans and vegetarians (again, get the banana lemongrass soup sans crab for that); it's adventurous and flavorful, and it boasts a well-curated wine menu while offering tons of cocktails and beers. Ginger knows food. It doesn't assemble a menu; it curates it, it conducts it like an orchestra, it makes everything amazing. I have never doubted a recommendation or pairing. It is *that* good. You can tell that their staff are very well-trained and educated about their menu and offerings, and that they really care about their restaurant. I have traveled around the world, spent a significant time in Asia, visited some bougie places, and Ginger is something so unique and special. It brings classiness and adventure that Anchorage is in need of; it introduces people to flavors and dishes that you wouldn't normally expect. If you like Asian food, you'll love Ginger. Even if you don't like Asian food, you'll still love Ginger. And if you come to Ginger and you don't love Ginger, then maybe you should hustle your booty to McDonald's because that's clearly the only kind of food your palate is built for, and leave the curry and pomme frites for the rest of us! read more
