I was excited to try this place and the Vegan Curry specifically. We also ordered the spicy edamame and my daughter ordered a burger and fries. The edamame arrived first and was slightly spicy but did not have a single grain of salt sprinkled on it, still, not too bad. My daughter requested no onions on her burger, but it came out loaded with onions. She just took them off, but if it would have been an allergy related request, that would not have worked. I was pleasantly surprised when the vegan curry was delivered because the presentation was beautiful, then...I took a bite. To call it bland would be an understatement. They don't have salt and pepper on the tables but will bring a set of mini shakers out when requested. Even adding a lot of salt and pepper could not save this dish. I never knew that a "curry" could actually be that bland. The ingredients seemed fresh and the one small scoop of rice was cooked well but a second scoop of rice definitely should have been added for the amount of curry. On a positive note, the service was fast and the server was very nice. Maybe it was a bad day for the chef on duty, I'll probably try it once more since it's close to where I stay when I'm in town. We ordered 3 appetizers. The pomme frites were some very well seasoned, well cooked French fries with a very good wasabi mayo dip. We also got the spicy tuna tower, which had a perfectly balanced soy sauce reduction, and a lot of tuna for the price, I was impressed. We then got the pork satay which was a great "meat on a stick". For our entrees we both ordered the maple duck breast with these little sweet yam bread balls. They were crazy good!! Drinks were spot on but obviously where most of the money went to. Strawberry Cosmo and pomegranate champagne drinks sufficed. Desserts were amazing! It was our anniversary so they added a chocolate plaque to my dessert that simply stated "happy anniversary". I ordered the chocolate decadence which was a sweet and rich cake and my husband got the chocolate lava cake. Overall great food but the seating needs some reckoning. We felt way to close to our table neighbors which made us a lil bit uncomfortable and for that we give 4 stars. read more

Thursday night review. We were seated promptly, not a huge crowd so we didn't have to wait for a table. I had a couple martinis that were on point, my wife had a sidecar that she really enjoyed. The pork egg rolls were fantastic, flavorful and very meaty. The tuna tower was a ton of fish!! Really good flavor and very good presentation. We split a lemongrass soup that I would definitely order again. My wife had the filet which was a very good sized piece of meat, the potatoes were fantastic, and it had an excellent avocado/corn salad. Great dish. My meal was the mee krob. Fantastic plating, excellent flavor, the beef chicken and shrimp all meshed well it was incredible. We had the green tea creme brûlée which was super smooth and tasted fresh. When it was in my mouth it was hard to chew on as well. The sweet potato mash was good though, I liked it, but would have been better if it was less sugary. Ok service although with not only our table but with other tables as well (eventhough only a max of 1/2 the tables had customers) they were constantly rushing in trying to take dishes and glasses away. I am currently visiting Anchorage for work. Anchorage has several breweries with decent food but mostly all the same thing . I came to Ginger for something different . It is not your typical Asian food . It is very unique and a nice break from bar food . Another good thing is the atmosphere. Most the restaurants in Anchorage are pretty loud and you cannot have a decent conversation without getting loud as well. The most memorable thing about Ginger is the service . Well one person! Her name is Jessica !! She works as a bartender but also will take your food order. The best of the experience myself and a few of my coworker/ friends had was Jessica as our server !! She was amazing from the beginning! She had a great personality i have never seen or heard from as a server/ bartender . She joked with us , had great comebacks with all of us. It was like she was hanging out with us. She made jokes with us and she told us when we were leaving she could be herself with us !! That's what you want in a bartender/ server . Complete fan! Went to Ginger tonight for a rare dine-in experience during these pandemic times. Service was stellar! Thank you to server Nick! I ordered the seared ahi and it was DELICIOUS. First off, you have to like ahi to order this, and I do. It comes with "coconut cashew infused jasmine rice" -- that's right "COCONUT CASHEW INFUSED" rice. Yum! The menu said the ahi was orange sesame glazed; but, really, I never tasted that. But frankly, I didn't miss it because the dish as a whole was delicious without it. What took it to five stars was the pickled red onion (and service). Who knew?!? that pickled red onion was the magic sprinkle on top for ahi tuna. I'll tell you who knew: it was the chef at Ginger. This has been one of our favorite places in Anchorage to bring visitors. We hadn't been here in a while and I'm wondering if they made some changes. We started with drinks recommended by the waitress, they were fine but my husband wished he had stuck with something he knew he would like. We also ordered spring rolls & chicken skewers which were good. I got the vegan curry, I usually love it but this did not have much taste and I actually added salt and pepper which I have never had to do. My husband got the beef curry and our friend got the duck. Both seemed to enjoy their dishes. The waitress was a little pushy and even though it was obvious we were chatting and catching up, she would awkwardly stand by the table waiting for us. Cute lil place downtown tucked away next to club Paris. Reminds me of all the foo foo restaurants back in San Diego. Came in right before closing and they were nice to have us stay and order food. We tried a few of those, and none disappointed. Dinner was a mix of dishes including the banana lemongrass soup, pork belly, and vegan curry. The flavors were off the hook! Bonus was the private banquet room available for groups up to 45 or so. I'm booking this for my squadron reunion later this year. Avoid this place if you like your food clean. I used to come here quite a bit since I work close by, but today's experience has put me off for life. When my waitress Melanie brought me my tofu and quinoa salad, she dropped most of the tofu onto the table. She then asked if I would mind eating the tofu that was on the table. I said no, because I didn't know how clean that table was. She then had the audacity to say that "the table was just wiped this morning." (I was there at 1 pm.) I asked for new tofu to be brought out, but that did not arrive until after I'd finished all of my food. Not once did Melanie apologize. Given that they think it's okay to ask a patron to eat tofu that has fallen on a table (that has been wiped only once between the restaurant's opening that day and 1 pm), I think it's safe to say that this place's cleanliness standards are not up to par. And they certainly need new waitstaff. Though I guess Ginger would save a lot of money on plates and napkins if all the waitresses were like Melanie. read more

The presentation of the food is uber fancy and matches the trendy upscale decor. I had the special for the night and was totally pleased. I came here twice when I was in Anchorage (once with co-workers and another time with a friend) and I really like the variety on the menu. The portions were also very generous. The decor is thoughtful and fresh yet understated. I loved the banana lemongrass soup as a starter since it was flavorful, sweet and had a good amount of flavor. The lettuce wraps were also very delicious and very easy to share if you are with a group. I was excited to see the tofu and quinoa on the menu (as was my vegetarian friend) since it seems not many restaurants venture into making dishes with quinoa. It is flavored well and more than enough to share with others. I really enjoyed my duck breast chinois for my meal as the duck was cooked well and the crab fried rice was a great companion. The green tea creme brulee was a great end to the meal as it was light, refreshing and definitely something different. If you are looking for a tasty and fruity cocktail, the Blue Ricky is a definite must. The wait staff was very attentive (borderline smothering at some times since they were so into making sure that we had everything we needed). The prices are a little on the high side, but for a good location in Anchorage with a fancy setting is to be expected. Great place for a date! We started out with the "spicy" ahi tuna tower appetizer. While it was great, it was not spicy. That's to say, there was not even a hint of spiciness to the dish. I'm sure it was a fluke because that is the only real issue I had the whole evening. The service and wait staff are top notch and I had barely taken a sip of my wine before the food came out. I had the Korean BBQ ribs as my entree and it was delicious, but the star of the dish was the grits. The cornbread needed a lot more butter, but the grits helped with that. The bed of kale was a nice addition. My date got the mango-teryaki alaskan tofu and loved it. I tried a bite of the tofu and the noodles and I can confirm it was a good choice. After our 2 entrees, 1 appetizer, glass of wine, and cocktail, the total was $80 before tip, which is a bit more expensive than listed here on Yelp. I'm assuming that must be because their lunch/breakfast menus are cheaper. My only regret is not ordering the scallop mac and cheese which looks like a delightful food-coma in a bowl. Still one of our favorite places in town especially if you are out on a date night or just want something fancy for the night. They have a great menu for vegan food and the meat courses are just as wonderful. My favorite is still the Blue Cheese Ribeye. The place has a pleasant and sophisticated atmosphere making the ambiance a 10/10 for me. Servers are fast and efficient. The turkey chili was great and innovative. It had hints of Thai red curry in what would otherwise be an American-south style chili. The quinoa veggie burger was pretty good. The panang beef was less so. I almost rated this place three stars because my panang was dull. Did they forget the fish sauce and use too little of the curry paste? I hope they improve that recipe because the presentation was beautiful and the fresh toppings would have made it really nice. Bottom line: I won't be in a hurry to go back here, but I would not go kicking and screaming either. For now, let's see what else Anchorage has to offer. read more

What a horrible 5 minute experience. I made reservations a week ago for father's day and our whole group was excited to try ginger out. We walked in and got seated right away. It was rainy and cold outside and they had the front door open. Our group was cold and so my dad asked the waiter if it might be possible to close the door. The waiter looked right at us and said boldly "NO, Absolutely not" and smirked. I would have been ok with just a simple "no i'm sorry we need to keep the door open for ___ reason" or "i'm sorry you're cold, maybe we can find a warmer table for you." I am not the type of stick around and spend money at an establishment after being talked to so rudely. I told our group I was out of there and we left before we even ordered our drinks. We went to Sullivan's across the street and had a nice fathers day dinner. I will not be returning to Ginger. read more
