The meat was tender, skillfully braised, and fall-off-the-bone, well done! The combo also came with Galbi-LA, which is fried steak with onions in a hot pan. BEST EVERYTHING! As soon as my husband and I walked in we were greeted immediately and luckily it wasn't too busy so we were seated right away. The staff was very friendly and even engaged in friendly conversation, made suggestions and were present throughout the whole meal even when it started getting busier. Now the food.. we both swore we were in heaven. We ordered Bossam (boiled pork), jokbal (pork feet), and gamjatang (pork loin soup with vegetables). Came here for lunch on a Sunday and ordered a casserole which I know takes about 10 minutes to make. We patiently wait and nosh on the side dishes. We asked for some more side dishes. They never brought them. By now we have already waited 20 minutes for our casserole and were starving. We asked the girl if we could get more side dishes (which they either forgot or didn't want to bring) and this time she said WAIT. When she said that, it wasn't a "oops sorry I forgot to bring the side dishes ", nope none of that. It wasn't a "please wait a minute". It was a WAIT. FULL STOP. What kinda customer service is that?? The other waitress and walked by many times seeing that our side dishes were empty and she even refilled the table next to ours side dishes without asking so it is definitely not a matter of "we don't do refills". When the spicy chicken casserole finally presents itself (5 min later, total of half hour wait by now) chicken is tasteless and bland. The broth is fine but the chicken was not salted or marinaded at all. My guess..the broth is the same spicy broth they use for all casseroles so readily available but they just threw chunks of unmarinaded chicken (not even with the slightest bit of salt). In any event, we didn't eat the chicken bc it was so bland and just had some of the soup. This has got to be one of the worst Korean meals I have ever had along with horrible service. Talk about Korean comfort food. My friend introduced me to this place for the first time about a year ago and I knew we had to come back. Second time around was just as good if not even better than I remember it. This is as authentic as it gets!!! I feel like I'm sitting in my Korean auntie's house eating her best dishes. The service is A+++, so friendly and thoughtful. We ordered a pot to share between the two of us. The price isn't the cheapest but the portion sizes are huge and so worth it for the amount of stuff that comes with it. There are also combo sets that we def would've ordered if we had more people with us. The food came out and they cooked it thoroughly in front of us with the portable gas stoves. They all got a severe food poisoning reaction and had swollen up with bumps all over their body. We went to Urgent Care as soon as possible and once we did they said that it was food poisoning. We called Geo So Gi and asked for the owner and they said he was out of town on vacation so they couldn't do anything except give us the owners number. I got the Jok bal + Gamja Tang Set (Plus 1+1 deal on Soju!) They have a variety of gamjatang you can choose from. Although many people thinks "gamja" in gamjatang is potato, "gamja" in gamjatang is another word for pork backbone (yummy part of the pork). The stews are pretty big because the minimum to order is 2 servings. I like to order the bokeumbap/grilled rice after you eat the stew. I also got Jok bal (also known as boiled pork feet). This place has one of the best in NYC. The skin was soft and flavorful. The amount that they give you is huge, so we had to pack the leftovers. As a testament to how much I love this place, I'd make the 30 minute walk from Main Street to here, and then turn all the way back. For years I was rarely in Queens so I was deprived of the gamjatang, but that has changed recently and trips to Geo Si Ji are definitely a priority. The muk eun ji (aged kimchi) gamjatang is my absolute favorite! If only gamjatang this amazing (and soju this cheap) was in Manhattan. One of the Korean restaurateurs with better service, designated guy that clears plates, refill water, and refills banchan. 3 of us so we ordered the 3 person set of stir fried soondae and pork bone stew. Integrity of soondae is great too, easily survived the physical traumas of being stir fried. Had ones that fell apart before, but not a single one here. Flavor is great, can taste the individual ingredients instead of having an overwhelming sauce dominate the dish. Pork bone stew was the main reason why we were here. Again great flavor where spices, mild sweetness of veggies and bone stock all stood out instead of a giant salt bomb stew. Don't let the name scare you off as well, lots of meat on the bone. Only thing that was a let down was the rice to finish off the stew (where rice, sesame oil, tobiko, scallions, sesame leaf and seaweed is stir fried with the left over stew). Came here to eat lunch on an incredibly wet and rainy Sunday. We ordered the seafood pajeon and Gamjatang pork bone soup. Both were amazing with real fish flavor in the Panjeon, and succulent pork falling off the bones in the gamjatang. The flavor of the soup broth was delicious and red, yet not as spicy as it looked. There were plenty of potatoes, chrysanthemum, cabbage, and scallions to offset the richness of the pork. Auburndale has many wonderful restaurants that are authentic and delicious. I prefer eating in this area to Flushing and K-Town. Parking is also easy and the streets are not crazy hectic like Flushing. I was here for dinner Saturday night and this is how it went down: 1) Great service. Staff was attentive even though they were busy. 2) Tasty, authentic Korean dishes. When they plunk down that bubbling pot of stew with the massive pork spin bones sticking out of the broth like little Loch Ness monsters you know you're in for a treat. It is always delicious when I bring it home and it is enough food for my family to last us for 3 days.. Their servings are huge. Today, however, I came here with 2 of my friends for dinner. There was potato salad, spicy seaweed laver, kimchi in the radish form, o-deng spiced, eggs, etcetc. They also give you hand cleaning wipes for you to wipe your hands before/after/anytime. The servers were ON POINT. My cup would always be filled with water (barley tea water) and they would bring napkins to us without us asking, they even put the potato soup in serving bowls for us. They came to ask us if we needed anything- not in a annoying way. And we weren't even the only ones there. It was pretty packed. Now to the food: 1. The jokbal We had it as spicy. It was spicy but I couldn't stop eating it. It was my first time having it. I'm not a big fan of trying things, if I know what it is. Ex- pig feet, chicken feet, frogs... Turtles.. You know the deal. Geo Si Gi specializes in 'gamja tang' which is literally translated to potato stew/soup and while it does have potatoes in it, it is actually a hearty meat stew that is slow cooked with potatoes and other delicious veggies. The huge meat bones flavor the soup and the meat falls right off the bones. Dip it in the sauce that's tableside and enjoy it with some soju. It is served in a huge casserole pot and the serving for two will feed at least three people. Save room for the rice you can mix in at the end with the leftover soup! The one thing that stood out for me during this dining experience was how accommodating the servers were. My girlfriend and I are curious adventurous eaters and wanted to know more about what is in each dish. The server was trying his best to communicate with us what ingredients we didn't know were (like the dried cabbage) and eventually he sold us to try it out. Then the food came. The same server was there to serve us and he was so nice. He even dig through the soup to show us what the dried cabbage was and asked if we were familiar with it. Then he served us a big heaping bowl of spicy soup filled with vegetables, potato, and a huge chunk of pork bone. The meat was very tender and fell off the bone easily. I kept on eating and eating but we became quite full quite fast. Would we come back again? While it was good, Flushing have so many korean restaurants that all collectively draw me in. Gotta love the gamjatang here, they are one of the best around! I ordered the Kimchi gamjatang (#3 on the menu) to share, which was plenty for 2. The soup base was thick and hearty, and full of flavor from the pork bone. Once the soup is brought to a boil, it takes about 5-10 minutes before it is ready to serve. I prefer mine cooked slightly longer to allow the starch from the potatoes to break down, making the soup thicker. The menu has many items that I didn't get to try, I noticed that there is also jokbal; will definitely come back one day and try it. The combination of the tender pork bones, spices, and textures just makes me fall in love with this place!
