This place was great. Me and 5 others came to Geo Si Gi after a long hike at bear mountain. We were tired and hungry. We were immediately seated and ordered our food. They noticed that one of our group members really loved their fish appetizer. So one of the waitresses personally brought him an extra fish appetizer dish (those fish appetizers that come complimentary with the food). She was so funny cause she placed the fish right next to him and walled it off from the other members with a napkin to state that it is his dish alone haha. She didn't speak perfect English but she was super friendly and totally made our night. We had a waiter who also served us and taught us how to eat this pork, octopus, kimchi dish the korean way. They also made sure that we were properly hydrated by providing us with ice water and tea whenever we were low. When the food came, we were all veryyyyyy happy. The food was delicious! We had soon doo boo, geo si gi gamja tang, dak bal, mukeunji bossam, a egg soup dish, and this newly created dish that was sort of a hybrid between a korean pancake but stuffed with rice, carrots, octopus, and finished with a topping of melted cheese. It was amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We stuffed ourselves full and I'll totally go back. Usually I give four stars for restaurants like this because of personal preferences (ex: spicier food). Everyone is different. My friends thought the food were spicy enough haha. But because of the waitress we had, I have to give 5 stars. I came here for lunch with the family and we ordered the army stew for 2, seafood pancake and a beef dish for 4 people. It was the perfect amount to share. Everything came out to about $100 after tax tip. Kinda pricey for what we got, but most korean dishes are expensive so I kinda expected it. The army stew was delicious and totally hit the spot! I don't really eat spicy, and I forgot to tell them no spicy. It was too light, but they said it wasn't spicy. I didn't believe them at first, but they weren't lying. Even though my giant pot looked bright red and really spicy, it wasn't spicy at all. I could have even used a bigger kick to be honest! So if you can do a small spice kick, then you should be able to eat this fine. The army stew also known as budae jungol was delicious! It had so much flavor and I loved pouring the soup on top of the rice. It also came with good ingredients like spam, sausage, ramen, kimchi, tofu. Yep, all that good stuff! It's nice on a cold winter day. The seafood pancake was also good. Lots of scallions though. There was actual pieces of squid in it, small pieces of shrimp. It was good, but I've had better. What was once a favorite among my friend group sadly is no longer...came here with my friend and she wanted meat so we got the combo gamjatang with pork trotters. Service was horrible. There were two waitresses and one busser working and there were 2 other tables besides ours . One of the waitresses legit fell asleep at the table she was watching movies from her phone on and the other gave us the worst attitude and service I've ever encountered. We asked for more kimchi and she refused . That has never happened to us before there plus their Banchan dishes are so tiny. My friend politely asked for garlic and peppers to eat with the stewed meat and the waitress kept shaking her head annoyed and insisting no no this sauce goes with it. Absolutely delicious potato stew! It's not as plain as it sounds! The "potato stew" is loaded with all kinds of Korean spices, Korean veggies and the most tender pork. It was my first experience so the waitress explained you take some pork with some cabbage and dip it in the spicy mustard sauce then eat it with some rice. I almost exploded after the meal and there were still leftovers. I ordered the serving for 2 with my girlfriend and we had enough left for a whole new meal. A great place for hot stews, definitely ideal for a cold day. The stews here are really delicious. They're packed full of vegetables, potatoes, and chunks of tender pork all swimming in a deep rich spicy (but not too spicy) broth. A bowl or two (or three) of this stew with rice is the perfect meal. You have the option of choosing a size to feed a certain number of people. For the 4 of us we ordered a size big enough for 3 and it was way too much! Along with your soup you also get a side dish. We ordered the spicy chicken feet. It was really good but the spicy level was too hot for me and ultimately I had to tap out and just stick with the soup which was a loss that I'm glad to take. Superb service. I came here for the first time on Saturday night for dinner with a group of 3. It was during peak hours but we didn't have to wait longer than 10 minutes. We grabbed our seats, got warm barley tea aka boricha and ordered set menu #5, which comes with gamja tang and haemul pajun (seafood pancake) for 3 people ($60.95). We also ordered a bottle of citron soju with our meal. They check your ID if you're getting alcohol so just be aware. Afterwards, the banchans (side dishes) were spread on the table and as we were picking on them, the seafood pancake came out and was served on our individual plates with their soy sauce based dip. I think they use the water from the potato puree in their pancakes, which makes it chewier and so much more tastier. When the gamja tang came out, I couldn't help but compare it to the way how Sik Gaek serves their hotspots except I'd choose their gamja tang any day. I just love potatoes and they are generous with the ingredients that come with the dish. It's also great how they serve the gamjatangs on top of a gas burner, keeping it hot throughout your meal. I'd also recommend asking for a bowl of rice to mix'em all with the soup base. Don't be afraid to use your hands to pick the meat from the hard to reach places on the pork bones. Wait, let's briefly talk about the meat--they fall right off the bones and melt in your mouth. Oy, someone give me a fan. Also, feel free to add on some extras like rice cakes, ramen, udon noodles, dried cabbages, pork loins and fried rice. You have to pay extra and range from $3.95 to $11.95 depending on what you get but it might be worth it if you like any of those things. I wouldn't say this is the perfect spot for your first date but a great place to gather with your family/friends over a gigantic pot of hot, delicious soup full of goodness. I came with two other guys and they told me we could've easily went with the smaller alternative for 2 people ($51.95) instead of 3. It's a miracle that we were even able to stand up and waddle over to our cars afterwards. I know for a fact that we overstayed our welcome. One of my longtime friend was visiting from another country and we were just chatting up a storm while slurping, chewing and chowing down our meal. But I never once felt like we were being rushed to pay the bill. I think the total came out to about $73 and we gave a $20 tip. I wish I could've asked for our waiter's name because his service was superb. It also didn't hurt that he was funny and cracked a few jokes here and there. Parking can be a pain in the butt during weekends, especially if you're coming here for dinner. You might have to circle around the area a few times but just cross your fingers, be persistent and you'll eventually snag one. I am so sad to have to write this review but I just can't believe how disappointing their gamja tang was tonight. I've been such a fan for years, sending family and friends because I love gamja tang and Geo Si Gi made it the best in the area. I ordered 3 servings of the Woo Gu Ji Gamja Tang to have with my parents. They were super excited as well because they also loved Geo Si Gi. The tang itself was so tasteless and the meat tasted old. My mom thinks they took the soup base and made multiple servings out of it. Basically if it's for 3 servings they split it by making it into 5 servings by adding water to it. She tried to save it by adding some extra ingredients to jazz it up but it just didn't work. We just couldn't eat it and had to throw it all away. I know times are tough because of covid but this is not the way to handle your food. I'd rather pay more for top quality and I believe a lot of people feel the same way. Geo Si Gi was a staple but I'm sad to say you've lost some long time customers. read more

This place was packed when we arrived. There's parking in the back through a tight alleyway next to the restaurant (easy to miss!). We waited for a good 5-10 min before we were seated. I'm surprised this place closes at 1am since the interior doesn't give off the feeling of a late night joint. Yet you can tell everyone comes here for the food and to hangout chat. Nearly all the customers were Korean. My hopes were high. Someone told me his Korean mom judges whether a place is good by their ban chan side dishes and I found that funny and silly at the same time but she may be onto something, a foreshadowing of things to come. The ban chan ended up okay: kimchi, potato salad, I believe acorn jelly, fish cake, and steamed egg (ttukbaegi gyeranjjim). The last in particular was most disappointing since it lacked color and egg yolky flavor (arrived late too since they were behind on those orders). The POTATO PANCAKE surprised me, not at all what I expected-- a hash browny pancake. It was more of a cross between a hash brown and dimsum turnip cake in smell and exterior with the consistency of Chinese sticky sweet rice cake. It was strange and interesting but I probably wouldn't order it again. Lacked potato-y flavor but that's what the sauce is for. The GAM JA TANG has to be the most disappointing. Flavor was plain and light with not much richness considering all the ingredients. Instead the soup had a one note taste of those peppery things in the soup and what must be red pepper flakes. And the lack of potatoes! Gah! I must lack something unique to Korean tastebuds because I don't see the appeal here. What am I missing out on that all these Koreans keep coming back for more gam ja tang? The same dish at Duk Soo Goong in Edison, NJ is much more flavorful and rich, with more potatoes too. MUKEUNJI BOSSAM consists of long kimchi, raw oysters and boiled pork belly. You're supposed to wrap everything within the long kimchi. Be warned those with a small mouth: I nearly threw up attempting to chew and swallow my big wrap bit by bit, because while one end of the long kimchi was still chewing in my mouth, the other end was getting pulled down by the force of my esophagus as I swallowed. Not a great experience. I'm not personally a fan of raw oysters and found these had a rather clean but clear pungent fishy smell to them. Pork belly tasted like good old pork belly though and you can't go wrong with that. A highly rated place for an okay signature dish. I still don't believe I should judge a Korean restaurant by their ban chan, even if it turned out to be true in this case. I've always been curious about Gamjatang (direct translation: potato stew). It's called potato stew, but it's really pork bone stew with a few potatoes thrown in. Man, where has this been all my life?? 22 of us descended on Geo Si Gi after church, and they split us up into two groups - a table of 6 on one side and a table of 16 on the other. In an effort to eat as much as possible, I moved over to the table of 6. We ordered the standard gamjatang - Geo si gi gamjatang as we didn't need anything extra (like seafood, curry, kimchee, etc as the other gamjatang options). We ordered the 4 portion option, as well as gamja pajun (potato pancake)! I LOVE potato pancakes (LATKES!), and seriously - didn't even know that my people had our own type of potato pancake. It's AMAZING. It is a bit of work to eat the Gamjatang, as the meat comes on the bone and you have to pick the meat off with chopsticks, and it's really messy, but it's SO GOOD. I also really enjoyed the sweet wasabi dipping sauce that added another layer of flavor on the pork + vegetables. Definitely not a date dish as it's really sloppy to eat, but it's so worth it! After we had eaten our fill of the pork and vegetables, they made a fried rice dish with the leftover stew afterwards. I ate so much I needed to lie down for a few hours afterwards. Even with the four portion option, the 6 of us ate to our hearts content and ended up shelling out $22 per person. My first and last time here. I was enjoying dinner with my friends when I felt something alien and crunchy in my mouth. It had a weird and foreign taste so I took it out of my mouth and behold, on my plate was a cockroach. It was fully intact and still twitching. With so many BBQ joints around the area, it's nice to have a spot that specializes in casseroles only - especially during a cold winter day. And it certainly was a cold winter day. Geo Si Gi specializes in casseroles with a pork bone based soup. We opted for the dried cabbage with vegetables casserole for 2 and a seafood pancake. The seafood pancake was awesome. It's usually filled with shrimp, squid, and scallions, but Geo Si Gi also makes it with clams (fresh clams and not the little tiny frozen clams). The casserole for 2 was humungous! It's served in a simmering pot and mini stove. Our waitress helped serve us and gave us each a huge ladleful of veggies and a huge piece of pork bone. The flavor was out of this world. Spicy, savory, and you can taste the flavor of the pork. The dried cabbage rehydrated to the perfect consistency. The pork... oh, the pork was amazing. The meat was fell off the bones and melt in your mouth good. The portion for 2 is plenty to share for even groups of 3. We each had 3 bowls, each filled with the same amount as the first bowl, and there was still maybe at least 1 serving left. Aside from the food, the service was great! We got there early so there was no wait. The staff was attentive and friendly. Once a glass was near empty or a bowl was done, they were immediately at table side to replenish. This place is mainly for hot stews, pretty small. Tables all full when we got here. We took the last table and most of them are gone by 9 or 9:30. I walked past this place so many times before I finally decided coming here. They have a variety of gamjatangs you can choose from. The stews are pretty big and you can choose 2 servings, 3 servings, 4 servings, etc (min 2). You can also add extra potatoes, cabbage, noodles for about $4. Extra pork bone for $12. Price wise is definitely not expensive imo. I had 3 servings for 3 people + dukkboki and I still had a little left for take home. So if you want something else along with the stews I recommend 2 servings + a separate dish that you want to try for 3 people. 3 servings + a dish for 4 people. They come to refill our appetizers without us asking them to which is nice. The pork bone is boiled for so long, the waitress taught us to rip the bones apart. I was surprised because it didn't take much effort. She asked us if we want fried rice at the end but we said no. I'm pretty sure it is something special, similar to the fried rice at the end after eating dakgalbi. Kinda regret it, but we were too full. Gamjatang is one of my favorite korean food and I love curry. Therefore the curry gamjatang I had was fantastic. This will definitely be my go to place for gamjatang from now on. P.S. The dukkboki was soooo soft soo good, it was cooked perfectly. I think the dukkboki here is probably one of the best if not the best I ever had compared to other places. Came here for the casserole and got the one with the same name as the restaurant - Geo si gi gamja tang (casserole with vegetable and pork loin) for two. They gave us some banchan and I really liked the mackerel. The egg and the kimchi was pretty good too. I could tell this was gonna be a big meal because I was already getting kinda full but at the sight of the gamja tang my need for a feeding frenzy came rushing back. I loved the huge pieces of pork spine. They had lots of meat on them. The broth was a delicious looking red but it wasn't as spicy as it looked. The flavor was good. There were enough potatoes and vegetables ( chrysanthemum, cabbage, bean sprouts, scallions ) to help me take a break from eating meat when I needed. By the end of it, we were STUFFED. The nice waiter came by and asked if we wanted to finish up with rice but we simply had no more space left and had to refuse. This was well worth the trip for us and I noticed that soju is cheap here. For once we had a car so that made the trip easy but I think I'll be taking public transportation here very soon.
