This is my favorite lunch spot when I crave Korean food. Fairly priced menu with variety(8-10) of side dishes never disappoints. I love their soy bean soup with grilled fish & stone pan bibim bop. Besides the foods, the service is alway friendly too. This is supposed to be a Korean bbq place(the name in english translates to 'town of BBQ ribs') but I haven't tried yet. I proudly say that this place is the best Korean BBQ restaurant I've ever been in NYC! It was a family dinner, and we came to this restaurant because my brother wanted to have Korean BBQ. As a Korean, I am usually very skeptical when it comes to Korean food, but I couldn't question my parents' decision. Alright, let's give it a try! We parked our car at the parking lot behind the restaurant, and went into the restaurant through the backdoor. We were seated on a 6-person table. I thought "we are only 4 and this table is too big.. ugh!" In 10 minutes the thought was gone! So many side dishes were served! (More than what I expected!!) We ordered 4 Galbi ( BBQ with seasoned beef ), and they were a pile of beef!! My brother LOVES meat, but we couldn't finish the food. The taste of the BBQ was very close to the one I used to eat in Korea. The BBQ came with mixed rice(pumpkin and beans in it) too. Our waitress stood right in front of our table and cooked grilled the BBQ beef and placed them on our plates until she finished cooking all of the beef. No one in any Korean restaurant in Korea does it! How kind she is! I believe the waitresses are trained that way just in case if their customers do not know how to grill. Oh, I won't forget to mention their service food! Free steamed dumplings, free kimchi pancake, and free mul-nangmyun(buck wheat noodle in cold beef broth)! Outstanding! Omg, my first review of 2010! eek, I've been a bad yelper :( This place only recently opened, and they are very eager to please! Before the banchan (side dishes), you get a mini-bowl of delicious thick pumpkin porridge. They really like pumpkins here, because there are even pumpkin chunks in the rice (which they serve in hot stone pots a la BCD soondooboo style). Normally, I like my rice just plain white, sans beans, peas, grains, whatever...but this was still good. The side dishes are very plentiful, and it reminds me of my grandma's style of cooking--very old school homey korean. They don't try to get cute with the wannabe westernized fusion stuff here which I do not mind. For our main dishes, we ordered the seafood gop-dol (hot stone pot) bibimbap and the grilled mackarel + dwen jang jji gae (soy bean paste soup) combo. They do not skimp on the seafood in the bibimbap, LOTS of squid, scallops, etc. During the meal, we also got a complimentary plate of kimchi nok-doo pancakes, yayys! Nok-doo is mung bean, so these pancakes are much thicker and heartier than the usual pancakes made with regular flour. No complaints about the food here. Really good place for korean if you don't want to venture too far out into the more crowded areas of Northern Blvd closer to Flushing. Also, ending the meal with warm barley water poured into the hot-stone pot of rice leaving you with delicious noo-reung-jee (the hardened semi-burned rice at the bottom of the pot) is always a good thing! read more

My mother is an extremely difficult person to please, especially when it comes to Korean dining. I read all the reviews and Jong Ga sounded like something my mother would love. We decided to order the kalbi. I was concerned that there would be no soups to accompany the dish. Well, I was wrong. They brought out daeng-jang jigae and egg jigae. In addition, there was loads of banchans, majority of them being really tasty. I paid the check and while on our way out, my mother complimented the staff and cook saying it was one of the best meals she had. Enough about the banchan! It's amazing [period] because it's complimentary to the meal. Now how about their Grade A angus galbi !?!? That's all I've ordered everytime I've been here. Well that soju and beer. Service: FANtastic! That's one thing I love about korean bbq, they cook it on the grill right in front of you. Treats all people (because I'm not korean) with respect and positive attitudes unlike some korean joints I've been to. The waitress are always smiling and brings a positive welcoming atmosphere the moment you step through their doors. Food: Spectacular! Melts in your mouth! Grilled over wood coal which [in my opinion] brings out the beefy flavor of the galbi along with a light smoky wood flavor. They provide a side of onions infused with light sweet soy sauce and when combined with the galbi and lettuce is simply amazing. The crunch with the first bite from the lettuce and onions, then your teeth just digs in to the tender, juicy meat...I can eat this all day. No additional sauce needed but you can get real creative mixing and matching the banchan with your galbi. Decor: Wood tables (some with built in grills). Small place and really wish they would expand as the wait could sometimes be tedious... But i will wait my turn.. This spot is by far one of the best galbi joints I've been to. Oh wow. There were ten of us and we ordered ten different items on the menu. Our food was mediocre at best. Though they offer plenty of banchans, we were turned off my when we saw the banchans restaurant staff were having (table right next to ours) with their lunch. They served us the outer layers of kimchi (the leafy, limp left overs) and they were having the best, fresh portions of kimchi. I have to agree that they serve a lot of banchan but you can definetly taste plenty of msg! read more

Came here on the recommendation of the k-scrub manager at a nearby Korean spa, and must say I was not one bit disappointed. The food is delicious - had a seafood casserole that could have easily fed 2 more than the 3 of us, and was chock full of goodies, including mussels, clams, fish, crab, lobster, octopus, squid and shrimp. Also tried the seafood pancake which was one of the best I've had in ages (and I almost always get one every Korean place I go). It was perfectly crispy with a wonderful flavor, and filled with the right ratio of seafood to pancake batter. Finally - SIXTEEN banchan! AND the waitress zealously refilled any that finished up! I observed charcoal bbq, and will definitely come back (hopefully to upgrade this to 5 stars) by trying the bbq plus the other amazing looking dishes I saw on other tables. This place is called Galbi Maeul but I guess the mods haven't gotten around to updating the name. This is my go-to place for Korean food lunch specials in the NE Queens area. Being in Auburndale, it's close enough to where I live in Little Neck without feeling like I'm schlepping all the way to Flushing. The mark of a really good Korean restaurant is its banchan and this place really distinguishes itself from the rest of a mediocre crowd of Korean restaurants in NE Queens. They give you a huge variety of different banchan and my family and I all agreed that they were all delicious. We ate so much banchan that we barely had enough room for our main dishes. Every table was taken at peak lunch hour, which lets you know what people think about this place. This place specializes in dolpan dishes, which is basically just bibimbap and your choice of meat on a stone plate. It's basically a spin-off on stone pot bibimbap that you see in most other restaurants. I just got a simple bulgogi dolpan and I thought the portion was adequate considering how much banchan they give you. The service was quick and attentive during lunch hour so no complaints about that. I haven't had some regular galbi during dinner time, so I'll have to write a follow-up when I get a chance to do so. As far as price, you're probably looking at about $12-15 per person for lunch when you include tax and tip. Definitely worth it for the amount and quality of food IMO. read more

My friend recommended this place because they have various side dishes. The server was nice and kind. Not to mention this place was crowded. But I don't like the fact they have C from inspection. My goto galbi place used to be Mapo BBQ and I still think Mapo's galbi is slightly better, however, Mapo does not come close when it comes to the banchan of Galbi Ma Eul. They load up the table with so many side dishes there's no place to put your utensils! There are other Korean restaurants that do the same but not at the caliber of Galbi Ma Eul. I was so confused because other restaurants will actually CHARGE you for the stuff that they give out for free. The staff is pretty friendly, the manager is engaging, and I'm never disappointed when I come here. Why the 4 star instead of 5? Their name has galbi in it, but I feel like it could be a tad better. The waitresses are all kind but not as attentive as some other places. I come here quite often now, but its because parking is better, the wait staff know me by name, and the food is above average. Was craving some good quality galbi. Walked in and the place was packed for a Thursday night. The waitstaff here is on fire. They zip around like the tasmanian devil refilling banchan, filling water, clearing tables for the next guests and grilling the delicate meats on a bed of charcoal. Service was top notch. The waitresses were so overbearing here that they made my mom's birthday dinner nightmarish. I don't need 3-4 waitresses telling me not to worry about the price, or that people around my age like this or that kinda dish, or that most people get the beef dish, or that they recommend us getting so and so. I came in here knowing what to order. My mom's really into fish...so I get her the godeunguh jorim (don't ask me what that is...cause I honestly have no idea), kimchi pancakes (omfg, my favorite part of the dinner NGL) and the shrimp with rice and vegetables served on a stone pot was delicious as well. When I needed the waiter service, they never came around. But when I needed them to just leave us alone, they wouldn't budge. WTF?! I never got the napkin I asked for, or the refill of the iced water, or any more hot tea. [eyeroll] After I asked to wrap everything up, this one waitress kept coming up to us and repeatedly asked if we enjoyed ourselves. Seriously?! My answer isn't going to change the umpteenth time you ask. What part of "we enjoyed our meals tonight" don't they understand? WOW! This is your typical Korean restaurant - loud, busy, and bad service - but the variety and flavor make this place stand out. My family used to go to Kum Kang San for korean food but they now go to galbi maeul. I was pleasantly surprised. Their banchan was great - good variety as well as tasty. On one of those rare occasions I make it out to flushing I went to lunch to meet a old friend: Ed C. It was a sunny afternoon during lunch time I had my heart set on eating at Sik Gak... Unfortunately when we arrived it was closed.... Ed C recommended eating korean bbq... Sure why not. We decided on Galbi Ma Eul. It was a bustling afternoon when we got there nearly all tables were occupied except one. Hurray! no waiting. Our waiter, and after two tries got one cup for the person who did the asking. We had to wave and wave to get any kind of service, and even then it was never fast coming. The waiters seemed nice enough and quite busy. We were supplied with cold glasses of water a menu. We told the waiter we wanted two orders of Galbi (korean spare ribs). Even so, I left happy, with plenty of food in my belly. For a while, we had nothing but a banchan spread, but it was a fair start. There were a few kimchi, sprouts, marinated spinich, fried tofu, mash potatoes, brocholi with hot sause, oodang (fish cakes), denjang-chi-gae (similar to miso soup), fluffy eggs, some soy sauce pickles, gochujang, lots of greens for a meat wrap, macaroni salad, shredded cabbage salad, and on and on we had so much banchan it was insane. There was more than enough to munch on while we waited for the meat. . The server then brought in the coal chips for grilling and the meat was next. The service was great. Our server stayed with us the whole meal cutting the meat and making sure we had enough banchan and rice. .We had a lots of the galbi; it was delicious. The marinade was just right, lightly sweet and very flavorful, but the beef didn't suffer without it either. It was tender and inherently juicy, and we ordered it again and again. The marbling of the meat was fantastic. There were a lot more beefy options to choose from, I was mildly curious, but the galbi was so good I did not want to be disappointed. I don't think we missed out. We sat and ate meat and drank plenty of Hite beer. I left a happy man. So glad that Sik Gak was closed. read more

The best thing about this place is that they use charcoal for the bbq so it really enhances the flavor of the meat. Generous with and great variety of ban chan. Delicious pancakes and japchae. Kalbi is melt in your mouth fatty and perfectly seasoned. Service can feel rushed but it's small so understand they need the tables. The restaurant is in Auburndale so parking is a lot easier to find than in Flushing. As of 9/1/15 their dept of health grade has been updated to an A so that's a relief though there has been a laundry list of violations in the past. I'll still be back. Came here for dinner awhile back! Food was fantastic. Some of the best banchan we've ever had! We weren't in the mood for gogi.. so we decided on nengmyun, kimchi jjigae & seafood pajun! Original & simple! Well it was only my husband and I.. so it was a lot of food! We ended up eating 1/4 of the pajun and barely any of the jjigae.. Comes time to get our check.. The bill was $50??? Jaw drop. Expensive for really basic food. Well whatever it was good right? We don't eat Korean food often (husband doesn't like it much) so I ask the ajumma( who ends up being the owner) if she can pack our food to go along with some of the left over ban chan (perfect to make bibimbap at home!!) She responds by saying NO. LOLLLLLLL. I've neverrr been told no.. with left overs to go!!? I was pretty irritated.. We paid $50 for some really basic korean food... And we're denied to take it with us? Swear this crap only happens to me!! Is that even legal!!? Ok so more than the denial... Makes me question sanitation!!!! Does the restaurant put back "untouched" looking banchan back to re-serve!!!? Anyway owner tried to smother us post meal by saying eat lots of oranges... -_- To come back or not? I don't know! So this isn't too much about the food. A while back I bought SpaCastle tickets here because they were cheaper. This was probably a few months back. I went to SpaCastle this morning only to find out that this ticket was a counterfeit! Called Galbi Maul and they said they did have a counterfeit problem with these tickets but are not reimbursing people for the losses because it's been a few months now. I don't have the Korean channel or the Korean newspaper. And coming out to flushing is like a day trip for me.... What happen to honesty being the best policy and customer service? I've been to Galbi Ma Eul twice and have experienced a consistently clean restaurant with good food and service. It can be difficult if you don't speak Korean or Chinese- thankfully my boyfriend is able to translate for me in case there's any confusion. I'm a pain in the ass for restaurants- I have celiacs (gluten free) and am vegan- and got sick when I first went. We made sure to be clear about my allergies our second time there and the servers took them very seriously and made sure that I was happy and safe our entire visit. I can't always order enough food to feel full at other restaurants, but that's never a problem here. I get the veggie bimbap- the rice is always perfectly toasted on the bottom and the veggies are fresh and tasty. I usually pick at the side dishes as soon as they hit the table- I love the sesame spinach, egg salad, bean sprouts, and celery with sesame oil. The best part is that they're constantly refilling them! The set-up of the restaurant is nice; you're close enough to be able to hear your friends with no problem during the dinner rush, but the table gets crowded quickly with all of the dishes and drinks. read more

Galbi Ma Eul - Jong Ga Joo Mul Ruk Gal Bi - Korean Near Me - Flushing, New York

I was originally in the area for Cafe Bench right next door but seeing as my partner and I hadn't eaten lunch yet, we decided to try the nearest Korean restaurant which just so happened to be one door over! I came in with little to no expectations but was pleasantly surprised by the quality of banchan (side dishes) provided from the beginning. First, they had soy sauce marinated crab legs as a side dish. I have never had that in any korean restaurant before and they were absolutely delicious! Creamy and fresh-tasting, as raw crab should be. Galbi maeul is known for their dolpan bibimbap which is similar to dolsot but it's served on a hot plate rather than a bowl so we ordered a bulgogi bibimbap and soondobu jigae (because it's my favorite). Both were up to par with any authentic korean restaurant in the area and I never found myself feeling like I was overpaying or not getting what I was paying for. Also, as with many other korean restaurants, each table has a buzzer type thing that you press when you need a waiter/waitress to come over so don't expect any hovering or amazing service. Personally, I prefer it this way so I don't have to worry about flagging down a random passing waitress and I also don't feel as if there are people watching my every move as I eat. We had the galbi cooked from the kitchen which was still pretty delicious. the casserole was big in portion. order it if you have more than 4 in your party otherwise order the soups. The intestine spicy soup was lovely. Their "topoki" not sure the correct spelling (stired fried rice cake) was served in a hot stone plate which was so much different from other korean restaurants, but added a bit of crunchiness to it.
