If you're looking for the superb service you're looking at the wrong place, however if you are looking for heartwarming belly filling meal you're in the right place. We showed up for a late dinner ordered the Seolleongtang and one order of the Saeng Galbi. The Seolleongtang was good, as always you adjust your seasoning to taste. The Galbi was tender, juicy and flavorful even though it was cooked inside and not table top. This establishment is not known for nice service but it gives a traditional old style Korean restaurant feel. My girlfriend didn't like how she felt like we are being rushed out, however the sea of banchan and the food that came made her forget about that. The name of this restaurant means Galbi Town but we usually do not order the galbi as we like some of their other dishes better. We order ojingoe dolpan (squid, vegetables and rice in a lot plate) and ttaro gukbap (bean sprouts, noodles in spicy soup). Very traditional dishes and enjoyable. Friends seemed to enjoy their dishes. They gave a good amount of banchan (complimentary side dishes) although there were 5 of us so picture is a little misleading. PRO tip: you can ask for refills of the banchan that you like even though it is free (just don't go overboard). Service was a little slow but not horrible. Interior is your typical Korean upscale IKEA vibe. Overall pretty solid. read more

Have not been here since my parents had soured on it. They were known for their lunch specials and the bountiful ban chan but I guess for a while they were being a little chintzy. There are so many other Korean restaurants in Queens so there is no need to go where ban chan is not plentiful. As an aside, shame on those LI "Korean" restaurants that charge for ban chan (appetizers), a big part of the Korean food eating experience is the INCLUDED appetizers. So we went and tried this place again. As you can see, ban chan was not lacking. It was tasty and when replenished when asked. I ordered the Ttaro gukbap which is a homey soup that comforts your tummy. It was just the right amount of spice, filled with vegetables noodles and whatever else is in there. Really enjoyed it! This is officially my new favorite Korean restaurant. The food is so good and the service is goo notch. I came here with my parents and got their soondubu jjigae, mul nangmyeon, stir fried tteokbokki with squid, and thinly sliced beef for the grill (I forgot to take a photo of the menu). I absolutely loved their soondubu jjigae. It was full of clams, shrimp had an egg in there, and it came with a bowl of rice. It also came with a free steamed egg and I believe kimchi stew. I was most impressed with their Banchan. There were raw clams, marinated raw crabs, and had such a variety of dishes. They do grill the meat for you, so you won't need to worry about accidentally messing it up. But overall, for all that food, our total came to be $145, and we had to take 2 of them home for leftovers! In terms of the decor, it's very much a basic old-school type of vibe. It's a bit dark at the table, but there is plenty of room, and the restaurant is very cozy. The waitresses also speak both Chinese and Korean, and their menu has Chinese next to the items. This is a great kbbq spot in queens if you're also looking for an authentic Korean kinda dated restaurant vibe. I personally prefer this over the more modern and flashier kbbq restaurants. It was my first time here and def will not be my last! I loved all the banchan they gave as that isn't usual these days. They even gave marinated crab banchan!! One of the best Korean BBQ places in Flushing. The prices are steep and high, but you do get high-quality meats and a lot of different banchan. I highly recommend the seng-galbi which is really soft and tasty, especially if you have it as soon as they grill it for you. The only downside is that they don't provide the bone, which is supposed to be the best part of galbi. We also ordered the pork belly, which was also high quality and was thick. However, their grill was weak so the only downside is that they grill the meat for you at a separate table or in the kitchen, and then they bring out the meat so you aren't able to enjoy the pork belly as they grill. Over the years, this has become my go to place for korean food. Parking is "relatively" easy to find in the back residential streets. I used to think they upcharge their entrees to compensate for the banchan, and I still believe that. However it's an uptick that I think is fair given the awesome amount and variety of banchan they offer. I have yet to find a korean restaurant comparable in that respect. Service has definitely improved over the years. I'm not sure if it's because my family comes earlier now (with a toddler), but they are attentive, friendly, and fast. Although by the time we leave we can see the frantic-ness start to set in. We've been coming with our toddler and they give you meulguk (seaweed soup) for the kids...a sweet touch. Their purple rice is still the purplest I've seen, meaning they don't skimp on the forbidden purple rice and just mix some into white rice like some other places do. The speed of service is excellent and I never feel rushed. I just wish they were better about refilling the kejang (raw crab). They used to give refills no questions. Recently, they either give none or just one refill. I still haven't figured out why they sometimes give pineapple and other times just oranges for dessert at the end...a mystery. read more

Came here for a group dinner and overall the food was alright. Some dishes were better than others. The service was subpar but that may be due to a staffing shortage. We wanted to have one of each order for 4 different kinds of meat but our server was very adamant that we cannot order that. Her explanation was that it's because the type of grill required for the meats were different, and we only have 2 grills on the table. We said we would be okay grilling the seasoned galbi and unseasoned galbi on the same grill but she said that simply cannot be done which seemed odd to me. She also mentioned that if we wanted to order more than two types of meat, the kitchen staff would have to cook it and bring it out. We were fine with that option but she refused to do that for us because she said the kitchen was too busy to cook one order of meat, and that we would have to order at least two orders if we want to have the kitchen cook it. After some back and forth we decided to just give in and order whatever she recommended. Food: Saeng Galbi - this was the unseasoned one and the meat was decent Bulgogi - for some reason this came out more like minced meat as opposed to bulgogi. You know it's a good sign when food starts raining down on your table before you've even opened the menu. Galbi Ma Eul is a not a large restaurant by any means but around lunchtime, hoards of couples and small parties blockade the door, hoping to dine in. The aforementioned number and variety of free banchan (or small appetizers that characterize Korean meals) are one of the huge draws. With four salads, two types of kimchee (radish and cabbage), spicy marinated crab, and various root vegetables littering your table, our table had hardly enough real estate available for the entrees to come. The menu hosts an attractive spread of dishes, including soups, stews, and a few main dishes that are intended for sharing (the marinated meats being one of them), but the one thing that sets Galbi Ma Eul aside from the rest of the pack is the section labeled 'Dolpan' which can be literally translated as 'stone pan'. While similar to a hot stone bibimbap at other restaurants, Galbi Ma Eul's pans are large and flattened, allowing you to spread your rice-and-topping mixture across a sizzling circular field that was about a foot in diameter. I had the tofu dolpan, which included (along with the rice and tofu cubes), oyster and shiitake mushrooms, spinach, diced onions, and bean sprouts, and sesame-marinated fernbrake. Mine was one of the vegetarian dolpans but the spicy pork and sweet marinated beef seemed like two other popular orders. Two important things to note about these dolpans: 1) Squirt bottles of spicy sauce are brought to the table, allowing you to adjust the spiciness as you please. I applied mine liberally, reddening my dolpan to sweat-and-tear incendiary levels but of course you can customize yours as you wish. 2) As with hot stone bibimbaps, try to leave the bottom layer of your rice undisturbed as you mix and eat. It allows the pan to cook and crisp portions of the rice so that, at the very end, these add lovely textural contrasts in ways similar to the socarrat in true paella. Each dolpan is accompanied by a complimentary bowl of seaweed soup (with small chunks of beef, so this is a vegetarian no-go), with tender strands of seaweed and a broth that is both savory and comforting. read more

This seems to be the go-to Korean BBQ place for many Koreans living in Queens, and it's the only Korean BBQ place that my mom continues to visit. After trying many of the Korean BBQ restaurants in Queens, I'd have to agree that this is probably the best one overall. The meat is delicious, and they give you all sorts of side dishes that you won't see at other Korean BBQ places. Plus, the service is really friendly here. The only possible downside is that it's pretty well-lit compared to other Korean BBQ places that cater to younger crowds, which may be why the clientele skews a bit older here. So it's definitely not the hippest BBQ joint, but if you're just looking for delicious Korean BBQ at an affordable price, this is your best bet. I'll add that this is also probably the only Korean BBQ place I've seen whose quality hasn't gone down in recent years. Many, if not most, of the Korean restaurants in the Flushing/Murray Hill/Auburndale area of Queens have changed owners in recent years and hence have gone downhill in terms of quality.
