This place does not deserve any stars at all!! If you want bad service, go there. We were there for a table for 6, first was put to sit on a 4 people table, then told us to wait till the next table left then we can move on for it. After 30 mins wait, they told us to order first because the table that we need was leaving now. Once we order, this lady told us there's a better table in the back, and told the kids to follow her. I followed to see what's going on and it was a small table with no bbq grill on it. I asked what's going on, and she was like we don't need the bbq grill, (but we obviously ordered bbq meat), then I asked again why, she said because we only ordered one, I said no, we ordered 2. Then as I walked back to the original table, and they already had someone else sit on it. At that point I realized that it wasn't how many order or what we order, they just want to split the table to 2 and give it to someone else!!!!! I can't believe they did that, and I lose it, they thought we only speak chinese and try to mess up with us, but sorry they picked the wrong person! Business like that should be closed!! My husband is Korean so naturally, I meet a lot of Koreans. One thing I have to say is this is the most authentic you're going to get. Best galbi, nothing fancy. Just do yourself a favor and skip the pork belly, it's clearly not popular and not a selling dish for good reasons. Ordered take out from this restaurant on my visit to Flushing. They do offer indoor dining and outdoor dining as well. I've been to this restaurant many times, but I usually dine in. The things I like about this restaurant are their excellent service and they give a lot of side dishes when you dine in. I didn't expect much from take out, but when I got my food they did include quite a few side dishes with my order. Of course is not as much when I eat there at the restaurant. I was very satisfied. The food here is good. Authentic Korean food. They offer different variety of food, kbbq, soup and noodles. It's really depends what you like. Was in the mood for Korean BBQ so we decided to try Golbi after reading the reviews on Yelp We got there early to avoid having to wait for a table. No waiting we were ushered to a table and the bon chon started arriving on the table. So many dishes. We ordered BBQ Galbi, spicy pork bbq and the spicy octopus bipbimbob (sorry for the spelling). Dinner came with two delicious soups, one was a spicy soup with veggies and tofu, the other was an egg soup that was so delicious. Now for the service. Attentive and very friendly. I just found my new go to Korean food restaurant. Highly recommend. Get here early if you don't want to wait. The line was already forming on our way out. read more

Okay so I tried the same dish 3 years later, the mushroom dolpan and it was really good. One of my top 3 hot stone bowls dishes I've had. Our waitress Manja was super friendly and helpful. A little after ordering, I forgot to mention that I wanted mixed grain rice instead of white. The kitchen had already prepared it and she went out of her way to take out the white rice when it came out and mixed the mixed grain rice in it. The service is exceptional. After eating at Gyro World too many times, I noticed this new place three doors down. They had a grand opening sign, and so I ventured in, thinking, well bottom line, a new place to Yelp about. The outside does not look like much, it does not have that gaudy exterior like many Korean restaurants have, and so it's somewhat of a shock to see how nice it is inside. There are regular tables for eating and then the special BBQ tables off to the side. It is really a small place, but they offer just about a full Korean menu. The menus themselves are special. They are bordered with fake metallic jewels. Certainly distracts you from looking for something to order. The waitress was very friendly and polite, but spoke not a word of English. Not one word. She did not even understand hello. Well, you get the point. So I used my Korean to whatever extent I could, and got by. Later a young Asian teenager, who appeared to be a waiter came around and asked how everything was (in English). The ban chan was good. The kimchi was fresh, but did not have a raw taste. The bean sprouts were kinda dry, and lacking that pop. She also brought over a pumpkin soup for me. It had red beans in it, and while it tasted good, the consistency was thick, and just was not aesthetically pleasing. All that aside, the Bul Go Gi was delicious. It came on a bed of lettuce which was a different touch. Fresh ginger and scallions were present and added to the great marinade. The reason I dropped a star was unfortunately the Man Du was lacking. I could tell right away they were from a bag, most likely any ones you can find at H-Mart, and not made fresh, like most Korean places do. They offer four types of soju, including one exotic one, that is probably not exotic to real Koreans, but that I am not, so it was exotic to me. Prices were average, and there is "valet" parking. Their food was ok at most. Nothing outstanding or different I haven't tasted from any other Korean restaurant. Their BBQ meats are overcharged. We had the tiniest serving of kalbi and that dish costed $35.99. We complained to the server and she said that's the size of their servings...which is ridiculous and impossible. There was literally 7-10 pieces of meat in that order. They treat Koreans better. So if you're Chinese or Taiwanese or anything else, you won't get the perks and treatment of a Korean. We walked by another table of customers who were Korean and noticed they got free dishes that we had not. So my mother in law went to ask a Chinese speaking server why. She said because they ordered so and so dish in which my MIL replied we ordered those also and more. The Chinese server said..it's because those customers are Korean. We are never coming back here. Love this place! First off their service was amazing and staff was super friendly. This is one of the rare korean places that gives a full table full of side dishes. This place gets VERY packed over the weekend especially during dinner time. Wait time is about 45 minutes to an hour. I've tried their cold noodles, kalbi BBQ, and kimchi jigae. It's mediocre and definitely not worth it to wait such a long time. They're extremely overpriced as well. I don't understand why they're so famous for their BBQ. I've had better. We ordered beef and pork belly and a seafood pancake for the two people and there was so many appetizers that are free that we got stuffed. You could almost fill up on the side dishes alone; and this is coming from a guy with a pretty inexhaustible appetite. If you mainly go for the side dishes then this is your place. Also, the staff was friendly and very attentive. We ordered the Kimchi Kongnamul, Sanchae Bibimbap. We ordered it because we had a vegetarian in the group. While it was decent, but I honestly must say that I would pass it over in the future in favor for an option with galbi or bulgogi instead. We also ordered the yukgyejang, which was pretty good. The last time I've been here is February. Since then, the prices have significantly increased. The unmarinated galbi price rose from $32 a serving to $38 a serving in a matter of months. Quickly glancing through the rest of the menu I realized that almost all of the other dishes underwent a price inflation. Although the galbi and the samgyubsal was just ok, I am giving this place four stars for their awesome side dishes. Any banchan ranging from raw marinated crab to octopus with gochujang paste was brought before me and my boyfriend. There is so much banchan that if practically fills up a table for four. Also, the staff is wonderful here. They are always attentive, polite, and quick on their feet. If you ask for something, they will have it in front of you in a matter of seconds. Judging from these prices, I can get a cheaper korean bbq meal in ktown but I will still be returning here for the awesome staff and wide variety of banchan. read more

I noticed that Galbi Maeul has recently been getting some HEAT... (haha?) I, however, thought it was really good. In fact, it may just be one of the best Korean BBQ places that I've been to thus far (and I've been to several up and down Northern Boulevard). To sum up my experience: - The galbi was fantastic. At $33 per order, it's a bit pricier than other Korean BBQ, but the quality is top notch. You can really taste how good the meat is. - STACKS ON STACKS of banchan! I had trouble finding a spot for my rice bowl because there were so many dishes on the table. - The service was pretty good. Even though the restaurant was packed, the waitresses were attentive. I read other 1 star reviews about a head server that ruined the experience. I've been here before and the food and service was good. A Galbi meal is expensive so choose wisely. Given it was a full house but by no means was it over packed. A professional server should be able to control your tables and parties. You can tell the head waitress was going in circles and couldn't handle the her tables. Her assistants were also fed up with the craziness and disorganization. She spilled water all over us, didnt bring rice as requested or water after many patient requests. The Galbi burned and we frequently asked for scissors and tongs to help ourselves. She also served us the wrong dish and we thought it was a free service dish because the service was so bad. She charged us anyway and we paid without complaining, as I knew she had enough stress on her shoulders. We also gave a good tip because this experience is still no excuse not to tip. I know it's a tough job from experience. I would avoid this place during peak hours. read more

Very good Korean BBQ place, if anyone in flushing wants to go to a good authentic Korean restaurant, this is for sure the place for you. They give the most Korean side dishes I know of in flushing and free refills. Also, I believe with every BBQ meat you order, you get for egg stew and Korean miso soup. They cook the meat for you so you don't have to worry about it while you're eating. Great atmosphere, spacious so you don't feel like you're in a crowd place. The only problem for this place is parking, which you can work your way around it. Tips: If anyone is driving here, turn into the small streets and look for parking there. This is great spot for Korean BBQ. There are so many korean bbq spots in flushing but this one is one of my favorite. I don't come here often because the price is pretty high. We ordered the marinated galbi. Usually one serving is about $50.00 and usually one serving doesn't really fill you up. I like the quality of their meat. When you order any type of bbq it come with a bunch of side menus. We had a very large party and ordered a lot of servings so the staff was nice enough to give us free naengmyun ( cold buckwheat noodles). The staff was super nice and very fast in their service. It's a Friday night, 8:25 and every seat is filled. We only waited for 15 min but it felt like much longer because of the tantalizing smell of Korean BBQ. The host and waitresses were very kind as they apologetically asked us to wait a few more minutes (by 8:45 two more tables opened up and were quickly filled up). Finally, we were seated and my mom immediately ordered 3 servings of galbi and a broiled beltfish. Within seconds our charcoal was set and the banchan (side dishes) magically appeared in front of us. YES! I was still buzzed from my post work its-friday-drink and hungry from the rainy commute. We didn't have to wait long before the meat sizzled on the grill allowing us to soon dig in. OH MAN. I usually don't like to eat kBBQ outside of home because I think my mom's korean cooking of anything is the best. but man, this place makes great galbi. It was well marinated and very tender, one of the best I've had in a restaurant setting. It was tough to keep track of what went in my mouth with so many side dishes and additional "service" plates. What made the experience extra memorable was the great service we received from our waitress. She was super attentive and very quick. I was surprised to see how quickly she worked during the dinner rush, running around from table to table cooking meat, refilling banchan, grabbing checks and making small talk. She was just a pleasure. She also offered to provide us with nengmyun (cold buckwheat noodles) on the house but we were way too stuffed. When I told her I'll be back tomorrow for lunch, she asked what time because she wanted to give me extra service for making us wait so long (15 minutes isn't bad at all). My mom loves to come here with friends for lunch and will head over to Cafe Bench next door for some coffee and patbingsoo (shaved ice dessert with red beans, fruit and icecream). I noticed that a new kBBQ opened up across the street (Family Gu Gong Tan), which has good combo choices but the quality of meat isn't as good as Galbi Ma Eul's and there are fewer side dishes. ======================== EDIT: I originally gave Galbi Ma Eul a 5 star review. However, I came back and noticed that the service was not as good as my first experience =( which is what I initially loved about this place. oof I can see why this place has gone down in rating even though Yelp recently changed their algo to bump rating stats across the board. The grill lady I ordered 3 servings of duck meat. First, the duck meat came frozen like straight from the freezer. Normally this doesn't necessarily make or break it since it's cut somewhat thinly. However, the grill lady seriously tried to put the ENTIRE platter on the grill at once. We stopped her but she had already put on enough meat for it to be overflowing. So let me ask you readers, what happens when you put way too much frozen meat on a grill? I'll tell you what, it friggin boils. I wasn't eating BBQ duck at this point, I was eating steamed duck. I think she originally intended to put the entire platter in just to hurry the process up. When I parted the stacks of meat at one point to let the water drain from the grill, she asked me what I was doing because I was stacking the meat and it wouldn't cook properly. Yes, as if I'M the reason the meat isn't cooking properly and taking literally forever to cook. She then commented that they were done. Yes, at that point they were safe to consume but in no way "done". How can someone working at a BBQ restaurant not understand that you have to brown the meat for it to taste good? Ever heard of the maillard reaction? No? Look it up. HARD pass on this place. I used to like coming here for duck but they really messed it up this time and I wouldn't come here as long as there's a threat this lady will be working my grill. Two stars only because quality of meat was 4 stars but $40/ serving for beef was different than listed price(more expensive) kind of expensive. This was our second outdoor dining experience since pandemic started. We only went today because our 3yr old daughter begged us! We called at 6:10pm to check if there were any tables they said there was a little wait so we started to drive with our 3 year old toddler and at 6:17 we receive call saying they have opening so come. We thought it was really nice they called but when we got to restaurant we had to wait for 10 min inside and then about another 40min outside. We told them we received call but there was no communication between servers so we were asked to wait inside since they dont know who received and called us. Then about ten minutes later the lady who called us said our table was almost ready and to wait outside. Of course with the surveillance camera we saw three parties walk to the back and get seated right away! People who came after us got priority seating because we wasted our time inside restaurant and they were spotted by the outside servers first. Of course by this time my daughter 3year old is asking why they got seated first and that she was very hungry! Now the second thing is the social distance problem. The tables were right next to each other barely enough space for people to walk in between! We had a seat towards the outskirt of tent so lucked out but the other tables towards the inner tent looked screwed! Definitely not 6ft! Food took long but they looked like they were doing their best since they only had one bbq grill. Beef was expensive but good pork galbi was good and 15.99/serving which was a good deal! Took off two stars for one reason: spoiled pork. I came back with my family and we got the marinated pork which was then cooked at the table. I was already seven pieces in when my father took one bite, immediately spit it out, called over the waitress and told her it was spoiled. He's a chef and so I would assume he knows about this kind of stuff. She insisted it was fine, and so he asked her to take a bite of one. She did, spit it out as well and apologized profusely. I used to come to this place regularly to eat their seafood pot. They used to be generous and give a full baby octopus up until now. When I saw that there was no octopus, I asked them why and their response was "it got too expensive" but yet I was still paying the same price. I proudly say that this place is the best Korean BBQ restaurant I've ever been in NYC! It was a family dinner, and we came to this restaurant because my brother wanted to have Korean BBQ. As a Korean, I am usually very skeptical when it comes to Korean food, but I couldn't question my parents' decision. Alright, let's give it a try! We parked our car at the parking lot behind the restaurant, and went into the restaurant through the backdoor. We were seated on a 6-person table. I thought "we are only 4 and this table is too big.. ugh!" In 10 minutes the thought was gone! So many side dishes were served! (More than what I expected!!) We ordered 4 Galbi ( BBQ with seasoned beef ), and they were a pile of beef!! My brother LOVES meat, but we couldn't finish the food. The taste of the BBQ was very close to the one I used to eat in Korea. The BBQ came with mixed rice(pumpkin and beans in it) too. Our waitress stood right in front of our table and cooked grilled the BBQ beef and placed them on our plates until she finished cooking all of the beef. No one in any Korean restaurant in Korea does it! How kind she is! I believe the waitresses are trained that way just in case if their customers do not know how to grill. Oh, I won't forget to mention their service food! Free steamed dumplings, free kimchi pancake, and free mul-nangmyun(buck wheat noodle in cold beef broth)! Outstanding!
