So I ordered a sea food boil from this sea food restaurant called 'Fun City Sea Food,' which was located in: 5602 Church Ave Brooklyn, 11203. And lemme tell u how they had the audacity of serving me a well cooked roach, laid out quite nicely in the midst of my order. Amongst the shrimps, corns, etc; was the damn roach. Spreaded out with its two back legs wide open in the water of the boil. Then it gets worse ... Chile, I first went ahead and made a report on door dash, informing them of what happened while proving photos as proof. And door dash had the nerve to say I wasn't qualified for a compensation but they will inform the restaurant. Like I can inform them my self... I want my money back and one of y'all finna gimme me my money back tf I then tried to call the restaurant, to inform them of the unfortunate situation and an employee who answered the phone, calmly explained that this 'incident' was more frequent and common than expected. Yessss!!! I've been craving crab legs something fierce! Unfortunately my craving seems to hit sometime around 9:45pm when most of the restaurants in NYC are closing around 10pm due to the pandemic. I googled seafood in Brooklyn and FunCity popped up. I called and the lady who answered said they'd be open until at least 10:30pm. The selection is small (only salmon, tilapia, scallops, shrimp and crab legs) but that was ok for me because I'd only wanted crab legs! I loaded up my bowl with three large clusters, a baggie of pumpkin, asked for broccoli and corn and had them steam it all with their spiciest level (and garlic). The food takes about 30 mins to prepare (there's a sign mentioning this) so my friend and I took a walk around the area. Boy that food was hottttt when I got back to Queens! One word. Disgusting. I have never been in a place where I had to give a single star but theres a first time for everything. DO NOT USE THE WEBSITE! They do not acknowledge the websites accuracy and refuse any part of it. When I got out of the car, some shiesty guys doubled back and followed me inside the place. Vacuum sealed sliced tilapia and salmon (steaks & fillet). That's all for fish. Wait, now for the crab claws in a bag, half defrosted half room temp and the cook-up rice pot filled with shrimp in the same condition! I sorted through and found 10 shrimp that may not kill me and a crab claw in semi frozen condition. The package veggies looked frightening so I went to the counter. Another lady behind the counter is in a chair staring me in my face rudely. I notify the bag juice lady, and she starts weighing and smiling. She asked do I want veggies and i said said yes. Chose 4 vegetables and they didnt have any onion, she plops corn full of silk, dried up carrot slices, fresh okra, and broccoli bleach with age. Everything else looked rotted away. I'm starting to feel really uneasy now. Then "the most" happens. She fixed her face to say $25 to me! Like really? I chuckled and asked to a repeat herself. I looked around and saw the dirt on the walls and newly arriving vagrants stewing by the door and was instantly turned off. Ok so this place lived up to the Yelp reviews. It was really delicious. I walked in completely lost and asked one of the employees working to direct me. She was very sweet and taught me all the ropes. I ended up purchasing $40 worth of shrimp, salmon filets and whiting along with string beans, carrots and broccoli. I had the shrimp, salmon and veggies steamed with a mild seasoning and a butter garlic sauce. The whiting was fried with the mild seasoning as well. The salmon was ok, it could've used a bolder seasoning. I fell in love with the fried whiting. It was seasoned and cooked to perfection! As a single woman, this food was well worth the price as I have enough to last me a few days. As previous yelpers have said, the food takes about a half hour but trust me, it is worth it. Honesty and transparency are important in a relationship so I was a bit disappointed when the BF neglected to tell me that this seafood haven was a few blocks away from his house. We both had; (y'all ready) at least 8 COLD and a bit salty fried shrimp, neither of us could even touch the steamed veggies because they were over cooked and just turned into mush, I had more crab legs than my friend, which were very nice. We both had lobster tails (most expensive item on the menu) that were cooked so tough they weren't eatable. And last but not least my friend had a piece of flounder which she enjoyed. Oh, we both had Fries, which they had forgot to give us so we sat in the car for another 10 waiting on them. (They were good.) My trust in Yelpers is slowly taking a turn for the worst. This is the 3rd eatery that I ventured into because I respect y'all. But come on now! This place is NOWHERE near a city Island. I ate the food in my car. Yummmm Fun City. I love the fact that fun city is professionally ran by young black men and takes plastic. The batter can be a tad salty but it seems to inconsistent so it may depend on who hand seasons it. I prefer the veggies without the season pack, stick to only butter. My initial reaction: WOW!!!! I was driving by, saw seafood and circled the block to see what it was about. I went in and was totally lost. It took them, IMO, a bit too long to address the guy who was confused as to what was going on. I asked for a menu and was told that they're in "front". Nope. What saved the day was a young employee who said, "I'll be your menu". He explained how everything works: You grab a metal bowl and pick out the veggies and fish that you want. When you get to the register, you tell them how you want it cooked. I grabbed a salmon filet and a few shrimp. Then added some broccoli and corn for good measure. The wait felt like forever, as I was standing outside and smelling the food. It was DEFINITELY worth the wait. Veggies were steamed and fish/shrimp were grilled. Mild seasoning and some "garlic" sauce. I'm going back tomorrow--just because I have to bring other people. We'll need to find something to do while we wait, though. The 4 stars is STRICTLY because of the freshness of the food and the flavor. The staff was just ok. Just discovered this location a few weeks ago, but since my church was still in the middle of a fasting period, I couldn't visit. It's over now, so I finally got the chance to stop in and check it out. I yelp'ed it first just to see what kind of reviews they got, impressive so I proceeded. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because they did not have any signs indicating what's what. Everything is just there. Kinda felt if they had signs over the vegetables sayin "Pick one or two" and "proceed to choose your choice of seafood for steaming or frying"; that may have been helpful being that it was my first time. Then there was no price listing so I know what I am paying for before hand. The young guys were okay, they could have been more friendly, but I give them kudos for good customer service. Would have preferred if the teenage boy behind he steamer didn't address me as "sweetie", but I'm still living!! (Respect your elders!) The food came out great, I love that they add some Carribean flavor to what you give them to steam. I enjoyed my steamed salmon, brocolli and corn. The enviornment was clean and tidy also. I was in town for the Brooklyn West Indian Parade this past weekend and stumbled upon this hidden gem Sunday night. To reiterate what others have written here - I absolutely LOVE this place! FRESH (did I mention fresh??) seafood of every caliber is available here. Also, we thought the okra didn't look too fresh but the gentleman was super nice and grabbed us fresh ones from the back. I also made the mistake of not specifying HOW I wanted my fish/shrimp cooked and had to have them stop the steamer oven and pull it. The guy helping us was very pleasant about it too!! All in all we waited about 15-20 min for our food but it was well worth the wait. All good things come to those who wait, right? I would recommend this place to anyone because there is something for everyone. I was thrilled to have the option of selecting just what I wanted in/on my plate...needless to say there were no leftovers!
