Located in the back side of the Buho restaurant, it is this hidden Omasake restaurant that serves Omasake dinner, they have two seatings. If you take the late seating the dance floor will start outside, it got pretty loud, if you like a quiet dinner, DON'T go for the late seating. The restaurant valet your parking up to 3 hours (I hope I am correct and not just 2 hrs). The chefs are pretty talkative and funny. They do have a drink menu, some drinks can be pretty expensive , for example: Dom Perignon Champagne is $420. Over all, I think the value of this omasake is great. 12 dishes and a dessert. We celebrated our anniversary, we got two free ice creams too. I am not going to get into the food that much, you can view my photos. If you like Uni, they give you three pieces of Uni! An Omakase that's delicious and $$ friendly, in my opinion. Hidden behind the Buho restaurants in Waikiki holds an intimate -9 person only- omakase spot. For someone that doesn't do omakase often, this is a really good ease into the experience. The flavors weren't as exotic as I thought it would be. Simple, savory, delicate 13 courses left me full and happy. Towards the end, our sushi chef even asked if we would enjoy a repeat of any of the courses received. This was my first omakase experience so I don't have anything to compare it to but as a newbie... it was INCREDIBLE. Most, if not all, dishes had a local or Mexican twist added with really fun and unique flavor combinations. We had a total of 14 dishes plus complimentary water and hot tea. The two chefs were outstanding. I appreciated the care and precision they put into each dish, explaining the ingredients and suggestions on how to eat it. They were both very kind and engaging with just the right amount of personal conversation with each party. Fukurou is tucked away within Buho Cocina y Cantina; you'd enter and check in with the host the same way as if you were going to Buho. The space only allows 8 guests per reservation hour, and similar to a tour experience, it's intimate and interactive with both the chefs and the other guests. I've been to many omakases and it's hard for my aging taste buds to pick up on flavors but Fukurou was a stand out. The playful combination were fun, tasty, and interesting. I loved the flavors on the matcha churro dessert, the roe on and yam (taro?) under the chawanmushi, the tako okra ceviche. And I despise okra but I really enjoyed the ceviche. Honestly, I loved it all. There was only one dish I wasn't sure how to react to, but hotate texture on a good day is iffy to me. The chefs were friendly and playful. I usually keep to my own conversation but they were attentive, clever, and overall fun to interact with. I was super comfortable with the laid back atmosphere even though it was only the six of us patrons at the counter (and in the room). I was in my Birkenstocks, but there were people dressed up to play at Buho afterwards. The lights are mobile so they can be moved around for photo purposes; it was still pretty dark regardless. I took my parents to Fukurou for their first omakase experience, and everyone loved it so much. The food was delicious with amazing presentation. Tako with shiso leaves and katsuobushi was a great starter, followed by tuna with quail egg yolk, which was so savory and creamy. All of the nigiri were perfectly made with fresh fish and perfectly seasoned shari. Crispy sushi rice with tuna and wasabi avocado was super delicious. The noodle served in an ice bowl was unexpected, but also great. Wagyu pieces melted in the mouth, and the churros and the ice cream at the end were a perfect way to end the meal. The chefs were so professional and also friendly, and the atmosphere was perfect to focus on food and family. Thoroughly enjoyed everything we were served and left with a full stomach. In the back of Buho Cantina in the Waikiki Shopping Plaza, this private sushi bar can seat about 8 people. It's more of a hidden back room than a speakeasy but it is an intimate experience. There are two seatings at 5;30 & 7:45. Chef Miki Yanagihara is a non traditional sushi chef-female with a huge Japanese tat. She has a sense of humor which is good for locals and English speakers who want to communicate more with their sushi chef. Described as a fusion of Japanese, local, and Mexican flavors, I had no idea what to expect but it is basically Japanese omakase fare with some locally sourced ingredients and some slight flourishes of citrus and a couple of "taco like" compositions. So no need to worry about how cheese, beans or taco sauce will taste on your sushi. 4.5 Stars because of the accoustics. The loud music blaring outside makes it difficult to hear. it's important for customers to be able to hear especially in omakase where the details about the ingredients is noteworthy. There were some other recipes in little things that could use tightening up since people are paying for an omakase experience. Beverage menu could offer a few more options. No one asked about food allergies ahead of time. They ran out of sorbet so didn't really have alternative for the lactose intolerant. Food overall was excellent, some much better than others . I'd give the experience 4 stars as I was there with my wife and close friends and actually did the very Hawaii thing of knowing the other couple there from friends of friends (you know how it is). But I'd have the say the food itself was a disappointment. I thought the chef tried really hard to be innovative and try different things than just plain fish on top of rice, but I thought she overreached. The impression I got was that the chef still hadn't mastered the basics to provide the key to great sushi, really good rice as a vehicle to transfer the simple elegance of amazing fish. A lot of stuff was under seasoned and other things had flavor mixes that didn't make sense. For a majority of the sushi, I was more puzzled and wanting versus reveling in the quality of the food. This is one of my favorite hidden gem omakase spots when we visit Waikiki. It's a restaurant inside of a restaurant and they had an amazing summer menu going on for $90 for 13 courses which is a great deal for omakase in general, and specifically for the area. I've been here twice and recognized their signature dish from the first time (tuna quail egg). I also love that its a blend of Japanese kaiseki with a bit of Mexican flare, with the use of local Hawaii ingredients. The amaebi, cold soba with orange, and uni tostadas were definitely my favorites, but all the other seafood in the sushi was also fresh and delicious. Exceptionally put together, if not entirely traditional, kaiseki program. Every single dish/bite worked well and tasted great. Definitely a true mixture of Japanese and Mexican with some additional techniques and textures mixed in. I thought the Mexican style dishes of "tacos" and an empanada were wonderful - I was very skeptical going in. The hand rolls were a great mixture of beautiful flavors - the uni one was probably my favorite uni dish I've had out here. The only nit picking I can do is the drink menu needs a lot of expansion. There needs to be more than one wine by the glass, more beers to choose from, and the opportunity to order a cocktail or something other than sake/whiskey/wine/beer. Being my first Omakase, experience was good and chef was funny too. Is not the super quiet environment where you don't want to talk. We even have one party that bring their newborn too (but the baby wasn't too loud or anything) i actually surprise they allow baby to dine in since some fancy restaurant does not allow younger children to enter. It was tuck inside Buho, not fancy decoration but food was good. I like the matcha choya and hopefully I can find them at Don Quixote. My favorite of the meal is the king salmon nigiri and uni with ikura. Fresh uni never taste too fishy at all, it was so good. I definitely recommend you to come try. Is very affordable pricing ($90) and you does get full. You can do add on, but not sure how much each item would cost. I wish they can provide that menu too beside the drink menu. read more

The staff are incredibly sweet and friendly people but unfortunately I felt the aspects of the food somewhat missed the mark. While nothing tasted bad, most items tasted nearly the same as the next, very mild, not a lot of outstanding flavor. Also, the wait time between each dish was very long, significantly more than any other omakase I've been to personally. I left feeling not quite satisfied, I think the long waits between each dish in particular made it hard for me to feel like I had really eaten enough. Overall I feel for the price point which is one of the cheapest omakase on island it doesn't feel like a terrible deal but I hope they can improve the variation between bites and timing. read more

This was such a great first omakase experience that doesn't break the bank. My partner and I made reservations about 3 months ago for a Friday evening seating at 8:00 PM. I'm glad I read the previous reviews or I would not have been able to find the location. Go up to the top floor and check in at the Buho front desk. Fukurou wasn't ready yet so we got seated at the Buho bar and was brought water right away. About 5 minutes later we were brought into the small back room (8 seats) for the intimate omakase experience. The two servers/chefs were so welcoming and kind. They got us drinks right away while we waited for the last two people to get seated. The umeshu, high ball and beer were so good! Then we began the set course meal. I loved pretty much most of the dishes and it was so cool getting to see the chefs make them and tell us where the fish came from. They were very detailed and you could tell they really knew their stuff. My favorites were the wagyu, salmon, and yellowtail. I wasn't a huge fan of the uni toast (I personally am not a fan of uni) so it would've been cool to get another salmon or alternative. At the end we were super stuffed but they offer to make you any of the dishes again (for extra $). We were full but were debating on getting another wagyu taco. It got loud around 8:30-9:00 because it's inside the Buho club, but it didn't bother me. Overall it was a fun experience that I think is worth trying. read more

Took me a while to get a reservation at this spot but it was definitely worth the wait. They had delays from the service before so we had to wait for longer than expected but the spot is closed at Buho so we just sat at the bar and had drinks and that was fun. The staff was super apologetic and we didn't mind - things always happen. Once they were ready, we were escorted to a small little space that they have turned into the sushi counter. It did feel a little too intimate especially with a bunch of strangers - this would def be somewhere where I would come with a group so we could essentially buyout the space. The 2 female chefs were awesome! Love seeing female chefs and they are both extremely talented. The dishes were excellent, unique and explained really well. This omakase experience is something you should absolutely treat yourself to, I cannot recommend it enough! The unique seasonal menu is crafted personally by Chef Miki, and each individual dish was served by her assistant Tomo. The menu is a fusion of Hawaiian, Japanese, and Mexican flavors and highlights local produce. Chef Miki explains each course as they are served; it allows you to time to appreciate how creative each dish is when you get to hear how she layered and combined different flavors to find the balance of the Mexican Asian fusion. Wanting to try something unique and different, we stumbled upon Fukurou. This is where we made our first mistake. Enjoying different omakase experiences from all over the world, we are definitely used to the traditional omakase experience. The Chefs both did an okay job explaining each dish. Definitely seemed extremely green and nervous. The dishes were absolutely terrible. We were extremely saddened by this, as we have seen and heard great reviews, but we definitely came to learn that these notions were very biased. A few of the chef's friends were there, and friends seemed to be a majority of who supports this business. Some of the flavor combinations were so terrible, that they were hard to even stomach. Surprisingly, the king salmon was the best bite. The chefs joked that their location often gets mistaken for a bathroom, and we could definitely see why. Instead of being quaint and classy, the room looked more like a depressing office space with just an owl picture on the wall. They also did not pickle their own ginger, which is a common practice. They just said it was "locally sourced." It was terrible. The bite we looked forward to the most was "the gift," and it was a complete flavor let down. The green tea churro in the dessert course was extremely overdone. We are sad to say that Fukurou was a huge miss for us. Japanese and Mexican flavors are very tough to mix, and they definitely did not do these two cuisines justice in any form. None of the flavor combinations were properly executed. read more
