Was craving sushi and wanted to try a different spot since we always go katsumidori. Though the me u is not as extensive as other sushi spots, the quality is super fresh. Ayumi was our waitress and she was so kind and attentive. Everything came out swiftly even though it was just one sushi chef working at 5 PM. Seared Trio A- seared engawa, seared toro, seared salmon. Every single nigiri was buttery and was the perfect amount of smokiness from the sear. Uni- most of the uni was fresh but I could taste some pieces had a bit more of an oceanic taste. Miso butterfish- buttery and flakey. The miso marinade was not overwhelming. Kileau roll- creamy California roll with delicious seared salmon. In this place is a sushi chef that makes affordable omakase, has loyal followers and makes delicious sushi and sashimi! Took my mother to this new sushi spot in waikiki, the sushi was really fresh and the price was okay. The servers and chief were primarily japanese, I think, really nice and welcoming when we entered the restaurant. Decided to try a new spot in Waikiki, YA!! SUSHI (@yasushibv) and wow, what a find. Their original location is in Downtown Honolulu, but this Waikiki spot has only been open for 8 months and is absolutely worth a visit. Incredible value for truly exquisite fish quality. We ordered the Ahi All Day platter (Tuna Sashimi 5pc, Tuna Nigiri 4pc, Spicy Tuna Roll), 4 pieces of Toro (caught off the coast of Spain), and the A5 Wagyu Volcano (A5 Wagyu fried rice topped with spicy tuna and a poached egg). Everything was perfection. This was honestly the best toro I've ever had -- melt-in-your-mouth soft with just a touch of wasabi and gold flakes. No firmness, no stringiness... literally the toro I dream of every time I order it. Service was great and the staff was super attentive. It's a small spot, so definitely make a reservation before you go. Adding this straight to my restaurant recommendation list. Can't wait to come back and try the omakase next time. Other highlights of the evening for me were the Engawa served torched for a melt in your mouth experience. Everything was fresh and delicious but surprisingly another standout for me was miso soup! Ya!! Sushi is very conveniently located close to the entrance of Waikiki in the Luana hotel just past the Aloha service station on your right on Kalakaua Avenue. The food is amazing! Authentic Japanese omakase sushi including sashimi, 10 pieces of nigiri sushi, broiled fish, chawanmushi, miso soup and dessert for an amazing price of $80. When I heard about this place I thought it was too good to be true but it's amazing! Parking is not a challenge as there is complimentary valet parking at the hotel. What's the cherry on top? It's byob! Be sure to bring some amazing sake and offer some to the sushi chefs and other waitstaff. They will drink with you! It's a friendly atmosphere but a five-star experience! Wonderful sushi spot right on the beaten path. The small limited space and setting pays homage to its intimate counterparts in the alleys of Kyoto or Osaka. Prices are exactly what they should be, on the affordable side, but the quality reflects a higher end. My husband and I were just looking around Waikiki area for a sushi place and we came across this hidden gem!! I debated about gate keeping this place but the quality and service is chef kiss and it's so worth sharing!!!! (There's a gas station next door which you can go and buy drinks from if you forget) The chef is awesome and super sweet and the staff is small but super attentive and welcoming my husband and I were mind blown by how amazingly good this place was they don't do the whole over size sushi they actually take there time and present it to you for nicely!! And you don't feel gross and full after eating either it's like a nice clean satisfying full feeling. 10/10 would recommend stopping by and trying this place out. They open at 5pm the earlier you go the better since it's next to a hotel we witnessed the guest coming in and asking to seat 7 people which by the way again the place is tiny and cute. So if you so happen to come in at the right time totally worth it!!! Unfortunately my husband and I only got to take one picture of our first order recommend anything on the menu but we had the leahi roll / poke roll / dragon roll / spicy tuna and the chawamushi. My favorite was the LEAHI ROLL the tuna they use literally melts in your mouth!! Again so majah and so ono!!! Btw the chawamushi was amazing as well not to many places serve chawamushi here in Hawaii so when I see it it's a must for me! Oahu has been lacking a good mid-tier sushi place until now. Same owner as @Sushi, this is a more casual sushi place, not cheap but it's a great price point for the quality and quantity. They have a great 10 piece sushi set, and they also have some well executed American-style sushi rolls which do not rely on being over sauced. They have rotating specials that feature seasonal ingredients. Service is friendly and attentive. BYOB as well. They have validated valet parking at Luana hotel. Highly recommended! read more
