Wow wow wow. We came here to celebrate a birthday during our trip in Waikiki and Fukurou exceeded our expectations! We frequent omakase restaurants in the Bay Area, CA and found Fukurou to be unique in its flavor pairings and refreshing in that every dish is a surprise (no printed menu). Our favorite was the Wagyu taco and DIY mini chirashi bowl. Chef Miki was funny and really personable. It wasn't a pretentious experience in anyway. They didn't really explain where the fish was from but we enjoyed ourselves anyways. It's definitely one of Waikiki's best kept secrets. But really want them to stick around so please come and support. Hopefully we'll still be able to get a reservation next time!

fukuro is hands down the best hidden gem in Waikiki! I almost don't even want to write a review so I can keep it to myself! The experience was almost as good as the food (which was a 10/10) and a great choice for date night, girls night, or a solo date if you're wanting to try new dishes. i've been to other omakase bars on the island and none of them even come close, especially at the price point. 10/10 food, 20/10 service and experience.

Love love love this place !!! It's super unique for Waikiki and you definitely would not be disappointed. We come to the island every year and I'm always trying to find new places to eat. We also have omakases pretty often and this place exceeded my expectation! Every piece is delectable and seasoned perfectly! The host and sushi chefs were fun and kept the vibes high all night. PSA: The place is hidden behind the Mexican restaurant so it seems like a speakeasy!

Wanted to celebrate a nice anniversary while on our trip and found this place. Great food for a good price! Intimate experience with only 8 seats around the counter. Enjoyable time.

While looking for a nice sushi place to take my husband for his birthday...We found this place through an influencer on instagram. The person was raving about this hole in the wall place so decided to give it a try. You need to make reservations as they dont take walk ins... and boy it did not disappoint!! This was our first omakase experience and it was amazing. The food was great. The chef took the time to explain each plate and was plated with so much care. The ambiance was great, the room can fit 8 people and was an intimate setting filled with laughter and joy. Both chefs were fun! Which made the experience great overall. I am glad we got to experience this! Highly recommend for sure. Cherry on top bonus, they do validate your parking up to 3 hrs! Dropping some photos of our meal!

Very cool place. Service is good. The quality was very fresh and some of the items were done thoughtfully. The idea of noodle with the ice bowl design was Michelin level. Personally, I felt the flavor for the sushi was lacking. In general, the taste was lighter. I really enjoyed the experience overall. Being limited to about eight people, it felt very intimate and personal. We had the chance to talk with the chef, share some jokes, and just enjoy a really wholesome atmosphere. The food was excellent everything tasted incredibly fresh. My favorite dish was the uni toast! I would definitely recommend this place and would absolutely come back.

Pu-lease! 12-course omakase for $90?! And it's freaking delicious!? Fukurou is a must for omakase lovers, and those who have yet to experience one. They switch the menu up often, but the favourites are always present. Unique to Fukurou, there is a nod to Hawaiian and Mexican cuisines in the flavour profiles. It's a very intimate setting, and is great for any occasion. Chef Miki is so creative, has a fun, cheeky sense of humour, and a splendid chef. We're moving away soon, and I have to say, Fukurou is one of the top 5 dining spots I will miss sorely.

My husband and I have made it a tradition to celebrate our wedding anniversary with an omakase dinner, and while in Hawaii, we knew we couldn't pass up the chance. We searched throughly, hoping to find something authentic, intimate, and focused on quality--away from the typical tourist spots. That's how we found Sushi Fukurou, and from the moment we discovered it, we felt an instant connection. Thankfully, we weren't wrong. First things first: reservations are tough to get. They don't take walk-ins, but if you keep an eye on their Instagram, they sometimes post last-minute openings. The experience is very speakeasy-style--hide away in a small room connected to a different restaurant. With only two seatings per night and room for about 8 guests, it is incredibly personal. Now, onto the omakase journey--12 courses including dessert, combining some classic elements with many original creations, which I absolutely loved. Every single bite was a standout, from the freshest sashimi to their smoky wagyu. We even had time for a few add-ons and repeated some of our favorites--because how could we not? What made the night even more special was the thoughtful touch of a custom anniversary dessert, something I'll always remember. A huge THANK YOU to Chef Miki and her team--incredibly talented, professional, and warm. I loved how open they were to us filming and taking photos. It's refreshing to see a new generation of chefs who bring both skill and approachability to the table--I really identified with that energy. They offer a small selection of beer, wine, and sake (not included in the omakase price), and at $90 per person, it's an incredible value for the level of quality, creativity, and service. Can't wait to come back. Once again, Chef Miki and team, THANK YOU!!!

Enjoyed the omakase at Fukurou so much! You really can't beat a $90 omakase We booked our reservation months in advance for a birthday celebration and found out the location was as a 5 minute walk from our hotel. Note that it's located in BuHo Cantina! A couple was 15 minutes late because they couldn't find the location. For the omakase, I really enjoyed every piece! The pacing was perfect and everything was very fresh. My favorites were the uni toast, wagyu and kanpachi. The service was also great! I told the chefs I may have a shellfish allergy and they changed the clam chawanmushi to a salmon roe chawanmushi which was delicious. They also went out their way to make my friends birthday special. Also look at how dedicated the chefs are to taking pictures! Would definitely come back for their omakase!

Came here for dinner a few weeks ago and loved it. For just about $100 it was a great value! I especially loved the avocado uni toast! Each piece was very well done and the flavors paired very well. Not going to lie I recently had the uni at the IG popular spot with uni on top of the Kyoto style rice bowl...that uni can't compare to this Ambiance was nice too. It's hidden away in this back room of a bar. The host will lead you to the restaurant.

This restaurant is tucked away in Buho, so when you arrive, make sure to check in with the host or hostess. They'll call you once everything is set up and ready to go. This review is a bit late, so I don't remember every single dish that was served, but I do remember my favorites--the wagyu "taco" and the uni and ikura over rice. The sushi chef incorporates Mexican cooking techniques into each dish, but to be honest, it didn't really stand out to me. The first few bites were a little fishy, which wasn't the best first impression, but luckily, that didn't carry through the entire meal. Overall, it's not a bad spot for the price, but there weren't many standout dishes aside from the wagyu "taco." The portions also felt a bit small, so keep that in mind if you're expecting a more filling meal.

It just so happens it fell during the weekend of the Maguro Fair. Upon ordering our toro sushi, I noticed from the first bite that the fish was extremely stringy and rubbery tasting... My friend also wanted to celebrate my Birthday here but there was no acknowledgment at all, when she had a whole group of people singing for her when we celebrated her here previously. I have already told everyone around me about my terrible experience and will not want to celebrate any occasion here in the future. I didn't even want to tip but felt bad and left it as a severance pay that I will never be dining here again... Hate to say that this also cancels my experience at their actual premium omakase location in Kapahulu. There are many other sushi places to go to and I will not be returning.

We ordered the short ribs, lobster appetizer, hamachi crudo and lastly sashimi moriawase to finish food palate. Lukki lemon dessert was great way to end to night. Ordered the Milk tea bouquet cocktail while my better half had water ( either way the food coma knock him out cold the rest of the night lol). To be honest, it was difficult to determine which dish was the best because the staff kept quality there despite it being busy every night since they announce the closure. My parents and friend enjoyed almost everything. I think the three items I enjoyed the most were the yuzu pickled vegetables, the yuzu sorbet and the chicken karaage. Those stood out the most for me. I also don't understand how Yelp lists this place as a "good for kids". It's not. There wasn't a kids' menu and the dishes were not kid-palate friendly (other than maybe the basic California style hand roll). For example, the fried tofu had shredded ginger on top that permeated the dish and the karaage had a very mild (but present!) note of spice that reminded me a bit of buffalo sauce. Our waiter didn't even give us a heads up or point us in the direction of any dishes to consider for the kids (surely we must not be the only family who has brought kids to this restaurant). Lastly, I understand that the tempura brownie is popular but after tasting the "tempura" on the tofu I'm sure the brownie is just the star that shines through. The "tempura" on the tofu was gummy and not the authentic Japanese tempura we are used to (my husband, who is part Japanese, said to me "What is this?! Cornstarch?"). This is probably a great restaurant for drinks and hanging out with some adult friends but the rolls and appetizers were just not to our tastes. We were also sat outside when the restaurant was near empty inside and out (we went around 4PM) and it was a hot day (though the AC wasn't particularly cool enough for my preference inside either).
