    Mini Crab Cake
    Caitlin R.

Went here after a friend recommended it. First off, just know the place is kind of giving a club vibe. The music is blaring and it was a bit hard to talk or hear anything. The service wasn't the best either. The lady took 10 mins to even greet us and ask us if we wanted a drink. Once we ordered food it took another half hour. I was really surprised by how TINY the mini crab cakes were given the price of $14. Nonetheless, they were tasty and the sauce was the highlight of the dish. I also ordered the Honey Jerk wings. While they were tasty, they were overly seasoned with rosemary and didn't taste like honey at all. Don't think I would come back.

Food: 10/10 Ambience: 10/10 Frozen drinks: 10/10 Service: 10/10 This place is so good you'll be thinking about what you're going to order the next time you come back, because you will! To start off, this place is a vibe. Cool frozen daiquiris and a full bar, nice restaurant, good music, great menu, and hookah and a party when it gets late. The menu has all the best dishes from fried snapper, lamb chops, cajun pasta, and more. Definitely something for everybody. They also have a lot of unique wing sauces like Hennessy, sweet whiskey, and honey jerk which we got just to try on the side and loved. We got fried red snapper with mac and cheese and mashed potatoes. We got the wing sauces on the side to try with the snapper and all were amazing. The snapper was fried so well and tasted amazing. Mac and mashed potatoes both melted in your mouth, just look at the pictures. Definitely worth coming to eat here, we actually drove all the way from Raleigh for it!

Very good time. Wish it was bigger. Parking is not it by no means. Food was ok. Wayyyy too spicy. The French toast was good.

Stopped by MiniBar on a Saturday around 8:30-9pm for a quick appetizer and drink with a friend. Restaurant was fairly empty..about 3 other parties at the current time. We were greeted outside and sat at the bar quickly. Our server was ok. Not too much convo, she did get our orders in quickly but I have to agree with previous reviews. She kept leaving to go sit outside in the front with other co workers. It didn't bother us but when it was time to leave she was outside and someone had to flag her in to bring us a check. If I'm paying $50+ for 2 drinks and appetizer at your bar I would at least expect your employees to stay inside. I highly doubt she was washing her hands each time she came back in. Any who, the crab cakes were good. Sauce was slightly spicy but not a bad thing. I probably will give them another try for lunch or dinner but the service needs to be a bit better.

1st time here and I can say I'm not too impressed by the service. Not sure if they were short on workers but it I had to wave the girl down to get her attention to ask for stuff. Then I waited almost 30 mins for my appetizer for her and the cook to come out the kitchen and say they just ran out of spinach and artichoke dip so I was very upset. They asked if I wanted to get something else instead but I said no because at this pint just bring my food. I ordered Cajun shrimp chicken and salmon pasta and when it came the chicken was clearly over cooked and dried out. The rest of it was good but I sent it back to get the cooked over. They brought my food back it looked much better this time.

Smelly seafood, dry salmon, but at least it was pretty?

This was the first a last time I've been here (now Frozay RVA). You can't put a flower on food and call it good for one. They opened an hour and fifteen minutes late...then charged 18% gratuity while immediately taking payment for the food like it was a to-go order. The waitress/host didn't even walk us to our table but earned 18% for taking our order. We ordered drinks, as most people do, and the bar tender also charged us 18% on a separate tab! Unbelievable! I know we are in a pandemic but I guess this is what we get for supporting a small business? I feel ripped off ($100+! For both meals). My salmon was dry, seafood was smelly, & lamb chops over cooked.

I ventured here last month with two friends. We arrived around 7/730 and the place was not packed. Ww were s eww ated within about 6 minutes of arrival. This space is not very big, so it is very intimate. It is a great atmosphere. Love the uniform of the staff. I ordered the crab cakes appetizer. They were more like crab balls, but they were delicious. The sauce was great as well. A friend ordered the Big Ash Shrimp appetizer. Those were also good. The sauce was excellent. The shrimp were actually big. I intended to order the crab stuffed shrimp, but I was informed that they has run out of that dish. As a backup choice, I ordered the cajun pasta with shrimp. Just the right amount of spice and just the right amount of sauce. I could've used a little more shrimp. I love shrimp. It was a nice portion. My friends, respectively, ordered fried rice and jerk pasta. They said that their dishes were great. I would return and I hope that my next experience is the same is this one. [I did attempt to have Brunch the very next day. Upon my arrival (2 hours after they state that they open for brunch), there was a note handwritten on a piece of paper stating that they would not be open on that day. I was very disappointed in this. I was truly looking forward to trying their brunch.

We came to Minibar RVA now known as Frozay. Overall the drinks were great we had Mango Ciroc Sangria, Love potion and Lights Out. Our food took a while to come out, so we were given cornbread for our wait. When our food finally came, my salmon was over cooked. The lobster sandwich my friend order was dry. It was a super busy night, maybe we'll try dining another night. The drinks and the DJ were gray though lol

I have been wanting to come taste the food here as I have heard really good things about this restaurant & cocktail bar. A friend and I came Saturday 3/31/18 @6:30pm. This restaurant isnt that big but a comfortable size. The seating area at the bar was full and there were a few tables with a reserved sign on them which made there be about 3 tables available, lucky me! I ordered a Ceasar Salad and the Lobster Imperial which came with Roasted Red Potatoes and Asparagus. My friend ordered the Lemon Pepper Wings for his appetizer and for dinner the Lamb Chops with a Balsamic Glaze. This also came with the Roasted Red Potatoes and Asparagus. Both dinners were pretty good. The waitress offered us a side order of corn bread because of a slight wait, that was appreciated because we were both hungry. The corn bread was VERY good. This restaurant also had a buzzer thing on the table for you if you need the waitstaff. If you hit it, they are alerted on their "smart watch." Pretty cool. Looking forward to hearing about your experience.

I'm blown away once again. I love the cuisine here and the presentation, even on takes out, is flawless. My burger was rich and seasoned to perfection, and reasonably priced for lobster tails. The cheesecake hit the spot, creamy and the texture was perfect. There are not many times that I can say that about cheesecake.

Brunch @ Minibar RVA isn't complete without a Lights Out!

Minibar RVA is not far from my apartment and it first came on my radar during Black Restaurant Week. My schedule didn't allow me to visit then but the following Sunday I decided to see if the buzz was worth the hype. On Sunday's they have their brunch menu, which is small but everything sounded delicious. I ended up ordering one of their infamous Lights Out drink, which is rum punch cocktail served in a light bulb. This cocktail lives up to it's name because it is sweet but has a quiet bite and too many of these will definitely have you out like a light! My server and a regular customer sitting next to me at the bar, raved about the chicken wings and their fried fish so that is what I ended up ordering. I got the wings in the sweet whiskey sauce, which was tangy, sweet and finger licking good! The wings are a must order when you come here. The fried fish was just as good. 4 pieces of tender whiting fish seasoned down to the socks, breaded and fried to the heavens, served with amazing cooked potatoes. Along with the friendly staff and the great ambiance of 90's R&B playing in the background, Minibar had spoken to my foodie spirit. My second visit was for dinner, thus a different menu! I ended up getting the Ciroc Sangria and Jerk Chicken Pasta. My cocktail and my entree was even better than my previous meal. The chicken had a kick but the pasta sauce balanced out the heat into perfect harmony. The pasta also came with a small piece of cornbread, which tasted like yummy pound cake. The portion of the pasta was so big I had to take most of it home for leftovers. On top of that the staff remembered my order and me from my previous visit. That really resonated with me, I love customer service that is genuine and gives that personal touch. When my bill came I was even more surprised to find that my drink and pasta had a $2 discount for each for happy hour ( 5 pm -7pm). Thank you Mini Bar for two great meal experiences. I am looking forward to coming back to trying more from this hidden gem!

Went today for the first time for their Sunday brunch. When I say that was the best buffet for brunch I've had in Richmond I mean it. The Rasta pasta was perfect. The salmon was season very well. The fried fish was a " lil " to salty for my liking, however it was still good. The pitcher of mimosas were great, definitely all champagne (hold the orange juice). I do recommend that you purchase your ticket before for your reservation because the first come first serve seating goes quick. All in all, It was a great vibe and I'll definitely be going again.

Went to MiniBar for my birthday. Great first experience. Our server, Ryan was great. She gave helpful tips on the most popular dishes and drinks. She also provided extremely quality service. Everything I ate and drank were delish. Must try's are the whiskey wings, cajun pasta with salmon and shrimp and the lights out. I also had the moscato mule which was really good. Can't wait to go back, hopefully get Ryan as our server and try out brunch!

Noise level can be challenging so we try to go in the early side when possible. Went for our anniversary in during Richmond restaurant week in October (they gave us a complimentary glass of bubbly to celebrate) and again with the kids in December. They always have amazing cocktails. Their mixologist is on their game with so many choices! For our anniversary, we got Cloud Boat and Apartment in the City, and we loved them both. Both were completely as described, light and ez in the palate which is a skill for whiskey. For apps we got the PEI mussels and the smoked fish dip. Again both were delicious. I particularly love my fish dip - the groom focaccia was done beautifully in the dill was a nice compliment to the flavor. For entrées, we had the catfish sandwich and the Arctic char. The catfish sandwich was good, but nowhere near the quality of the Arctic char, which was savory and delicious and elevated by the brown butter and golden raisins. Since it was restaurant week the dessert was included in the price so we got the apple cranberry fry pie And the chocolate ganache bar. Both were a nice way to end the meal. Tasty but not mind blowing. With the kids we ordered Gnac attack, Proper Dose, American Love Call, and Bebot. Again they were all so good but for me the Proper Dose and Gnac attack were the best. For apps we got the fish dip and one of the specials and loved them both. Entrees were the Spanish mackerel, the arctic char and a special that was a gumbo and rice. We ate everything and had no room for dessert. Can't wait to go back.

The service was a little too leisurely for my temperament, and the tab did arrive at the table on one piece of paper when we had clearly requested that there be a separate tab for each couple, but those would be my only complaints. We all had cocktails, one from their specialty list and three that were standard issue. All were delicious and had an appropriate alcohol content for cocktails. The restaurant week menu provided a good variety of choices. Everything we had was really delicious. Portions were generous, so I could not eat more than about half of each course and not get overly full, but I assume they are sized for all but the hungriest diner. The venue's sound level was pretty high. I could have left my hearing aids at home so I wouldn't hear as much of the background noise. Noisy restaurants are pretty standard, I guess. We will definitely be returning to Alewife. It will probably take the place of Grisette in the rotation, which has been dropped because of institution of a fee for reservations canceled less than 24 hours in advance. (I don't think it should be treated as a privilege to dine somewhere when you have so many equivalent choices, but I guess they want to decrease the number of people who try to make them their dining choice. Objective accomplished.) The Hemingway quote at the bottom of the tab was a little weird. Not a Hemingway fan, but I guess it was an interesting thing to do. If you have read other reviews of mine, you may be aware that basically non-alcoholic cocktails that should have alcohol in them are reason enough for me to never return to a restaurant.

The menu has so many tempting options that it was hard to choose, but we both landed on the Hot Chicken Sandwich with cayenne butter--and we're glad we did. It had the perfect amount of heat: enough to bring some spice without overpowering the flavor. On the side, I ordered the green beans after our bartender/server highly recommended them. Normally, green beans wouldn't be my first choice, but they were seasoned perfectly and ended up being one of the biggest surprises of the meal. My partner chose the mac and cheese, which was the superior side (although both were excellent). The service was friendly, attentive, and genuine throughout the evening. Despite arriving on a Friday night without a reservation, we had no trouble getting a table. They only accept reservations for parties of 5-8, so I'm glad we decided to take our chances. One of my favorite parts of the evening was chatting with another guest at the bar. He and his wife shared several entrées with their young son, and they couldn't stop raving about the short ribs--which their son happily claimed for himself by the end of the meal! They also highly recommended the salmon, so we've already got ideas for our next visit. The only real downside has nothing to do with the restaurant itself: parking in Scott's Addition can be a challenge. I'd recommend allowing yourself some extra time to find a spot or, even better, taking a rideshare so you can start enjoying your evening right away. Lunch. Supper! has earned its reputation as a longtime Richmond favorite. Great food, excellent service, and a relaxed atmosphere make this an easy five-star recommendation. We'll definitely be back.

It's served with one whole waffle, two large pieces of fried chicken, and syrup on the side. The chicken was not seasoned as much as I hoped and wasn't as spicy as I expected, which was a bummer. The cheese grits were alright as well, but not as flavorful as I hoped. My partner ordered the Double Barrel Bowl, and he really enjoyed it. I fell back to the basics and went with poached, creamy grits and unbelievable thin sliced country ham. The kitchen seems small but they were powerful in managing the orders quickly. Wait service was attentive and patient. Love, love, love Millie's and the next time we are in town, driving through or nearby we are keeping Millie's on the list of great food, good prices and quick service.

This is a neighborhood diner with a cool dive bar feel and an interesting brunch menu…read more I completely forgot to take photos of the food, but I ordered the crabmeat breakfast burrito. It was a huge portion, and I couldn't finish it. The potatoes were top tier. I'll definitely be ordering those again. The place is tiny, and I can understand why there's usually a line out the door on weekends. One thing I wasn't expecting was the size of the drink bar. It was massive, and even at 10:00 on a Friday morning, that bartender was BUSY! The host was a gem. He was friendly, got us settled with water right away, and was genuinely welcoming. Our server took a little while to make it over to us, and we had to flag her down for coffee and water refills, but she was pleasant when she came by. Overall, this is a solid brunch spot. I'm already planning to come back this week to try something different, and next time I'll actually remember to take photos. I can also see myself bringing friends here on visits to town.

This is the perfect restaurant for a date, simply lit, quiet, reservations required. We were…read moreseated on time, waters with the small bottle left on the table, we ordered she crab soup.. it was my first time having it.. it was absolutely delicious. I'm a big fan now. My entree was honey brussel sprouts, mac n cheese, blackened salmon. the salmon and brussel sprouts were very flavorful and each bite was better than the last. the mac n cheese though..! It was disappointing, tasted like noodles with cheese poured on top. it didn't match the salmon, it had no taste, needed salt & pepper or something to help it taste like something. My iced tea was really good too. so the mac was the only thing that wasn't up to par. Finally dessert was a special on the board, caramel apple bread pudding. we shared one, it was a huge shareable piece that was warm and melted in my mouth very good. I will absolutely go back here and try something new next time to see what else they have.

This was a recommendation from my barber/stylist, Danny Smith (Nirvana Hair Studio) who had a shop…read morenearby a while ago. He said that he thought I would enjoy it, and he was right. We arrived around 5:00 or 6:00 in the evening. We didn't have a reservation on a Saturday (surprise, surprise), but there were open seats on the patio and at the bar. We chose the patio, and while patio chairs left something to be desired (some bolts need to be tightened or the chairs replaced, one), it was a pleasant night. Our server came out promptly. She was prepared, knew the specials, and was able to answer any questions we had. We ordered the pimento cheese and crostini for an appetizer. For dinner I ordered the signature burger with the sauteed broccolini as a side, and my partner chose the chicken pot pie. The chicken pot pie came out hot and smelled incredible. The signature Burger was medium, exactly as I ordered it. It was Juicy, tender, and tasted fantastic with its classic potato bun. The desserts sounded fantastic, especially the "fudgy tiramisu" as our server described it, but we were too full to try them. The GM came by our table to personally introduce themselves and ensure that our experience was excellent. I always respect that level of service and integrity. I feel remiss that I neglected to mention the patio chairs. Swing and a miss. The traffic noise on the patio can be somewhat grating, and we were approached by a panhandler/down on their luck individual as we were wrapping up the check. The Savory Grain had kind staff, wondrous food, a delicious sour ale, and even a clean restroom. I absolutely recommend it and plan to return again.
