    The Southerner Bowl*

I visited with a large group for a friend's birthday brunch. They were generous with their time, as the table sat and chatted for a while after wrapping up. I tried coffee and the Southerner bowl. Both were pretty good; nothing wildly special to run back to, but generally tasty. Prices were reasonable. and the location in Regency was convenient.

This is the new name and place that was Sloop John B. This is a nice place with indoor and outdoor seating. Lots of parking. They now have a roof top for live music. Good selection of beer and menu items. They have a decent happy hour too. Plus the owner is in and out often which is nice to see an owner mingling with customers vs a corporate conglomerate owner.

Met a friend for lunch on one of the best weather days we've had all summer here in Richmond. We sat on the patio next to the parking lot and there was a breeze the entire time. Love the open air vibe of this place with the garage doors that slide up on two sides of this restaurant. The vibe and the weather made it feel like we were in California. Our server Sam was incredibly friendly and helpful giving us her take on each of the dishes we were interested in. I got the mahi-mahi sandwich with fries. Both were done nicely. Felt like the fish could've been slightly bigger and had a little bit more zing to it, but it had a nice flavor. I'll probably try the West Coast burger next time though. My friend got just a regular burger and she enjoyed it. She got a Caesar salad on the side, which was a little heavy on the dressing. Overall, we enjoyed our meal and will definitely be back to try out some other options. This is a great place to go when the weather is nice and want a cocktail because the atmosphere alone really makes this a relaxing experience. Also- parking is no problem. There are plenty of spots.

Mother's Day 5/11 5:20pm Nice looking restaurant. Kinda reminds me of a sports bar while also a kid friendly restaurant. Initially, I ordered everything to go because I thought they would be slammed since it's Mother's Day. But upon walking in the door, I noticed there was plenty of seating so I decided to eat inside. I know the wait staff tend to frown upon when you get a to go order and then decide to eat inside because of the tip issues, but I'm the type that would tip regardless. Therefore, I order a sweet tea, and I asked for some balsamic glaze for the brussels sprouts. Needed to make sure I got a bill. I appreciate the courtesy/customer service from the waitress and I'm guessing the Manager who also helped me. Ordered : Crab dip - it's ok. 5/10 Pimento grilled cheese with apple bacon - upon biting the sandwich I was a little taken back in that pimento cheese was cold. I thought it would be warm since it's a grilled item.. it's also a little spicy which y'all know I don't like spice. 4/10 Side of mashed potatoes - very bland and no salt and pepper on the table 1/10 Crispy brussels sprouts - the brussels sprouts were the bomb, especially with some balsamic glaze. 10/10 Sweet tea with lemon - Good 10/10

Got the crab dip appetizer & Mahi Mahi sandwich both were excellent. Nice beverage menu, location: connected to Regency Square; absolutely plan to go again!

Everything I've ordered here is always been great, but I am particularly partial to the tacos. Great price, large servings, and high-quality well-made.

Crab cakes with mostly breading. Missing extra sauce that was ordered but it's not needed with limited crab.

Crab cakes were mostly breading. Ordered a side of extra sauce, which was not included, which is actually not needed because it's mostly breathing. Rice and asparagus were good.

The place feels old in the daylight. The service is excellent and friendly, if not a bit slow. The food was good, not great.

Looking at the outside, very beige and colonial, you would not expect to walk into the vibe-iest (made that up) spot in Midlothian. The bar is gorgeous - that's the first thing I noticed. The place just feels warm, like you know you're gonna have a good time. The bar is fully stocked - definitely rum heavy but they have everything. I had the honor of meeting the co-owners Greg and his wife - they were super friendly, welcoming and informative. They are also super proud of the space and thy should be. That was my impression within the first 5 minutes. I had not even sat down yet! I was there with friends and we opted to sit at the bar. The drink menu is well laid out and has a variety of options including food. Because I always trust my bartender I took the risk of getting the bartenders choice which really provides a curated experience - just tell them what you don't like and let them do their thing! You'll be amazed. I also have to rave about our bartender Julia! Drinks were amazing every time! To be fair... the whole staff was really impressive. Julia really went above and beyond finding me a charger for my phone... that's the only reason I don't have more pictures to share (I was on 4%). Julia really saved the day!

He had the fried chicken with hot honey, garlic mashed potatoes, and more collard greens. That fried chicken was so crispy and delicious. Upon entering, the hostess greeted us and, at our request, seated us outside because it was a beautiful day. The restaurant venue and ambiance were modern and well kept. The bathroom was clean and nice. The outside seating area was also fairly clean with comfortable seating. Our server (neither my partner nor I caught her name as she said it: she had beautiful braids with blonde streaks woven in) started on the right foot, took our orders promptly, and brought out our waters. I ordered the Smothered Pork Chop, and my partner chose the Fried Chicken, subbed pimento mac and cheese for the collard greens (who can blame her?). The food did not come out promptly. My best guess is that our server was seated with a large table and prioritized a better tip over the two top (us) outside. Eventually, the food came out (~25 minutes, so not terrible), but for the number of patrons in the restaurant, it was too long. My partner's mashed potatoes were cold, but she said the fried chicken and mac and cheese were fantastic. The potatoes tasted delicious, but they were simply not warm. My pork chop was very thick, like a filet, which is okay, but it wasn't what I expected. I prefer a thin pork chop, so that it cooks all the way through (more solid, not soft). It was passable. The beans and rice (Hoppin' John) were also not what I was expecting; I was thinking more New Orleans-style, but they were bland, like cream of mushroom soup on unseasoned beans and rice. We ordered the banana pudding for dessert. We ended up waiting for that for ~20 minutes as well, a half-pint glass of banana pudding with underripe bananas mixed in. Note to the chef: heat ripens bananas, so you could toss a few in a skillet with a little oil in a pinch (egg yolks also work). We waited for another 10 minutes, and I finally went inside and asked the hostess for the check. I realize it is difficult to serve, but you must also consider asking your colleagues for help if you have too much going on. All in all, the food was satisfactory, but the service was lacking. We ended up waiting an hour longer than we should have had to. I semi-recommend Farm and Oak, but look to be seated with the better server, John. He and the hostess saved our experience.

We stayed for two drinks and the first bartender was pleasant and gave us recommendations and chatted with us. My second old fashioned was a bit overly sweet which I wasn't expecting after the first one being quite good but I didn't ask for it to be fixed so that's on me. The problem is that one of the other bartender/server came up to the bar and CLIPPED HIS NAILS while we were sitting there. I initially questioned what I was hearing as surely, no one in the food industry thinks this is okay?! Unfortunately....someone does. Due to the set up of the bar I have to assume it was being done into a sink? Trashcan? It didn't seem low enough while he was chatting with us to be a trashcan. Needless to say we did not end up ordering food and moved on quickly. I will not be back.
