Waffelettes

My new favorite brunch place in Richmond! The food was INCREDIBLE. My friend and I kept talking about what we wanted to order when we came next. The service was also great. Everyone was prompt and the food came to the table fast, but we didn't feel like we were being hovered over. There was plenty of street parking & not too busy for Easter weekend brunch. We are absolutely returning!

Great food and reasonable prices! I got a bowl with chicken and quinoa, it was absolutely delicious. My mom ordered the mini waffles, which were not only adorable but also really tasty. The staff was super nice and helpful, especially with gluten allergy accommodations. There's plenty of seating and street parking available. Highly recommend!

Last Call burger

TLDR; friendly waitress, large menu with salads, sandwiches, burgers and a few entrees. The food was reasonably priced and the taste was good but not GREAT. Vibes - this laid back restaurant was surprisingly busy on a Thursday night at 5:45. We had to wait 5 minutes to get added to the wait list (this process was a bit unclear as you have to wait for a host but the host took a while to come). Then we waited 15 minutes for a table. Thankfully there was plenty of space to wait inside. There are steps to get down into the restaurant so unsure how wheelchair friendly it is. Service - we had a lovely waitress. She was friendly, upbeat and helpful. She gave great recommendations and checked on us the perfect amount. Food - the food was solid! Good enough to come back but not life changing. Here's what we got. Chicken and waffles: this was our least favorite. The waffles were a little gooey in the center and tasted slightly under cooked. The chicken was good but not super flavorful. Avocado Smash Burrito: delicious, flavorful and solid portion for the price. Last call burger: SO GOOD! I'm no stranger to a burger with egg on it, but this is my first time also having a hash brown. That was a delicious touch! I do think the burger itself was a bit meh but as a whole it was delicious. It could benefit from a sauce. Our waitress kindly brought me their sriracha aioli which my husband enjoyed but I thought it had a weird taste. It was also spicier than I'm used to for a sriracha based sauce. Next time I'll try the garlic aioli. Side Mac and cheese: this was a $2 up charge but the portion was HUGE so worth the price. It was a bit rich for my taste but still delicious. My only problem is that this tastes nothing like "mac and cheese". It was good but it was a cheesy pasta. If you order it with that expectation - and you're okay with a touch of heat - you might enjoy it.

Blue Crab Croquettes

Liberty Public House in Richmond is an old theater that was converted into a quaint resturant with a diverse yet concise menu; furthermore, they're a solid spot that serves up good food and even better values, which is something I really appreciate in today's climate. I started with the blue crab croquettes, which were crispy and flavorful. They had just a bit too much Old Bay for my taste, but they were still really tasty overall. I also had the buffalo chicken wrap with fries and a side of their house made hot sauce. That hot sauce was incredible; bold, spicy, and clearly made in house with love. I'd come back just for that. (My friend bought a container just to take home it was THAT good!) The service was friendly and welcoming throughout my visit. What stood out most was the atmosphere. It's a place that feels intentionally inclusive and supportive. They're openly pro-LGBTQ, anti-ICE, and clearly committed to being a space where everyone feels safe and respected. In a time when a lot of businesses choose to stay neutral, it's refreshing to see one take a stand. I'll definitely be back and will be recommending it to friends who appreciate both good food and good principles.

LPH has been my go to brunch since my 1st visit. Food is consistent, service is A1. If there weren't infinite reasons to love it here, I learned that all their servers are trained as bartenders and runners. So if your drink is taking a while, just know your server may be hard at work whipping it up!

Hash browns and eggs

Been to Liberty Public House a few times now with my girlfriend, and every time it's some good eats. I've brought my mom here when she visits from out of town and I think it's a reliable breakfast spots we can count on. The service is always great. They seat you quickly, and the servers check in often, which I always appreciate. On this visit, I went with the French toast, hash browns, and eggs. The French toast was good, and the eggs were soft how I like em. The hash browns weren't exactly my style, but they weren't bad either. Overall, Liberty Public House is a solid choice for a morning bite. Some good food, and attentive service keep me coming back.

We were meeting someone who chose Liberty Public House. When we got there, we were told there was a 20 minute wait. The restaurant was not at all crowded, so we figured it must be a staffing issue. It did, indeed, take about 20 minutes to be seated. It was a little noisy, probably because of the high ceilings. I had the South of Philly sandwich. It was good, but a bit salty. I enjoyed the shoestring potatoes a little too much.

My friend and I decided to come here for lunch, and we had about a 5-10 minute wait. It's like your typical American pub with pride, very casual. There's no parking directly out front, you have to find street parking on the side which there was on the next block. I got the pesto chicken sandwich without mozzarella and red onion and shoe string fries as a side. It was SO good and they give you a lot of fries, I couldn't eat them all. I'm not sure how they toasted the bread but so delicious. Our waitress was nice and attentive. The pricing was also really good, my sandwich was $13.50.

We've been here twice now, once as a brunch date and once with a group of friends. We were looking for new brunch spots in Richmond and LPH had a big menu with many vegetarian options, as well as that classic brunch feel and brunch dishes. We tried the Biscuits and Gravy (vegetarian) with a hash brown cake, as well as the Green Monster (an everything bagel sandwich with avocado, pesto, scrambled eggs, and tomato). Both were really good! The hash brown cake was actually a really nice side, crispy on the outside. The biscuits and gravy were also really satisfying and I was especially happy they were able to make this dish with vegetarian gravy. The second time we brought friends, they shared chicken dishes which they said were pretty good. Overall, good hearty food, soulful service and a really nice vibe; they could season their dishes a little bit more consistently and intensely, but otherwise a good solid brunch spot.

Stopped in last night for dinner. Cocktails were great, service was fantastic and the food was good. Casual neighborhood hangout vibe. Steady stream of people coming in while we were there. I had the brunch shrimp and grits and my husband had the fried chicken sandwich. Everything was delicious. My husband loved the chicken! Greek salad that we shared was great. Mac and cheese was a little cooler than I prefer and the shrimp were slightly overcooked. Our sweet server was in an arm sling but didn't seem hindered by it at all. We'd go again!

Nothing wrong with this place. Absolutely would and will return. This visit was not our first time and won't be our last. The food is excellent, portions are more than fair. Service was good, pleasant waitstaff, good teamwork. The dining room was clean, busy, and loud. It is not a place for a first date nor a business meeting. Everything was excellent.

teriyaki wrap

this restaurant has the exact vibe you want in a pub. it is super spacious but inviting. the staff was super friendly and helpful. the food was hit or miss. the pretzel sticks are a must! they had the perfect consistency - a crispy crust and super soft center. i really liked the mustard it came with and although i liked the idea of the gouda cheese, it was not my personal favorite. i tried a new menu item that was the teriyaki chicken wrap and it had potential but just wasn't that great. all of the veggies were super crunchy and tasty. the sauce was pretty good as well, but the chicken was dry. the wrap all together just didn't go well for some reason. the taco platter was similar as well. the individual ingredients were pretty good but didn't do super well together in addition to the dry chicken. they have shoestring fries which are my favorite type of fry and i enjoyed dipping them into the mustard dip!

The service was a little too leisurely for my temperament, and the tab did arrive at the table on one piece of paper when we had clearly requested that there be a separate tab for each couple, but those would be my only complaints. We all had cocktails, one from their specialty list and three that were standard issue. All were delicious and had an appropriate alcohol content for cocktails. The restaurant week menu provided a good variety of choices. Everything we had was really delicious. Portions were generous, so I could not eat more than about half of each course and not get overly full, but I assume they are sized for all but the hungriest diner. The venue's sound level was pretty high. I could have left my hearing aids at home so I wouldn't hear as much of the background noise. Noisy restaurants are pretty standard, I guess. We will definitely be returning to Alewife. It will probably take the place of Grisette in the rotation, which has been dropped because of institution of a fee for reservations canceled less than 24 hours in advance. (I don't think it should be treated as a privilege to dine somewhere when you have so many equivalent choices, but I guess they want to decrease the number of people who try to make them their dining choice. Objective accomplished.) The Hemingway quote at the bottom of the tab was a little weird. Not a Hemingway fan, but I guess it was an interesting thing to do. If you have read other reviews of mine, you may be aware that basically non-alcoholic cocktails that should have alcohol in them are reason enough for me to never return to a restaurant.

Street parking only but wasn't hard to find. We came in being one of the first parties in. Our server explained the menu in full and all the specials in full. To drink we had the Bebot and the Monkey Business to start, both were really good. The thing we knew we needed to have to eat was the Siren's Song special which was a lazy Susan full of different dishes. The Siren's Song consisted of oysters, fried clam strips, smoked fish dip, seared tuna, pineapple fried rice, and a fried fish collar (sorry don't remember the fish, maybe Skate) with a Szechuan dry rub on it. This seriously was an amazing display. Every single dish just took it up a notch. They were also super nice to accommodate making it pescatarian because the Siren's Song usually has meat elements. The fried collar really blew me away. So meaty, fried perfectly, and the dry rub was so flavorful but not too salty or hot. Despite finishing the whole Siren's Song, we also got the Cascatelli without guanciale which was also delicious. We finished off with their caramel custard which wasn't too sweet and had a great mix of textures and flavors. Also tried one of their NA drinks and a glass of their special chilled Grenache Noir which was surprisingly good (not a big red wine fan). Overall, we absolutely loved it here. Each dish was amazing, drinks were also good, service was on point, and it was just a beautiful dinner. We will definitely be coming back.

Only street parking is available, but it wasn't too difficult to find a spot. The atmosphere: Very rustic vibe with some farmhouse-style decor. They have table, high-top, bar, and patio seating available. The food: I opted for the Chicken and Waffles with a side of cheese grits. I chose to make it hot for more spice. It's served with one whole waffle, two large pieces of fried chicken, and syrup on the side. The chicken was not seasoned as much as I hoped and wasn't as spicy as I expected, which was a bummer. The cheese grits were alright as well, but not as flavorful as I hoped. My partner ordered the Double Barrel Bowl, and he really enjoyed it. It was packed with pulled pork and was plentiful and filling. The service: Great and kind service from Mave (I believe that is her name but I'm not entirely sure). She informed us about the daily specials and was attentive throughout our visit.

We arrived around 5:00 or 6:00 in the evening. We didn't have a reservation on a Saturday (surprise, surprise), but there were open seats on the patio and at the bar. We chose the patio, and while patio chairs left something to be desired (some bolts need to be tightened or the chairs replaced, one), it was a pleasant night. Our server came out promptly. She was prepared, knew the specials, and was able to answer any questions we had. We ordered the pimento cheese and crostini for an appetizer. For dinner I ordered the signature burger with the sauteed broccolini as a side, and my partner chose the chicken pot pie. The chicken pot pie came out hot and smelled incredible. The signature Burger was medium, exactly as I ordered it. It was Juicy, tender, and tasted fantastic with its classic potato bun. The desserts sounded fantastic, especially the "fudgy tiramisu" as our server described it, but we were too full to try them. The GM came by our table to personally introduce themselves and ensure that our experience was excellent. I always respect that level of service and integrity. I feel remiss that I neglected to mention the patio chairs. Swing and a miss. The traffic noise on the patio can be somewhat grating, and we were approached by a panhandler/down on their luck individual as we were wrapping up the check. The cornbread was more dense than I'd like but the honey butter was delicious. The brussel sprouts lacked flavor and seasoning. The honeynut squash wasn't what I expected and I would've preferred the balsamic glaze over the brussels instead.
