Basket of Fries, Catfish Fingers, Classic Club
Dae E.

The food was on point. I got the catfish fingers, basket of fries, and my fella got a club sandwich. The catfish was just slightly on the salty side, but no biggie, it was still good. My server was chill and attentive. Came here on a holiday so it wasn't packed. We got seats by the window which is great for people watching. Next time I go there I want to check out the rooftop.

Great little deli. We stopped in during the watermelon festival. They had a limited menu but had some great items on the menu. We had the sailor sandwich and a Reuben and both were so tasty. Our waitress was very nice. Her service was efficient and helpful. The meal came out so fast and it really was very good. The room was electric with people talking and laughing. Great little deli. I will return to try other menu items.

Stuffed french toast with vodka raspberry couli, eggs, bacon

Located in the heart of Carytown this is a great spot for breakfast, lunch, dinner or late night if you are looking for traditional New York deli style / diner food. There is free street parking. They have a full bar with bar seating and traditional restaurant seating along with a rooftop. They get into all the different holidays and decorate along with offering f&b specials. They have a milkshake menu that includes boozy milkshakes. They have a weekday brunch, which is nice. On the weekends, the branch is expanded. I believe you can get the full menu at any time. We went on a holiday Monday and there were three of us, we arrived right at 11 AM which is when it said they open and before we knew it the place was filled up, but we did not have to wait for a table. The servers were all very friendly and helpful. I enjoyed a grilled cheese sandwich on rye bread and french fries which was as good as any I have had with multiple types of cheese. My mother had a chicken tender with honey mustard wrap that included lettuce and tomatoes. They make their chicken tenders fresh in-house and they are huge. She got the potato salad, it is not a traditional, southern potato salad, but it is creamy and there is no relish. My friend had a stuffed French toast with a vodka raspberry couli which was served with eggs and bacon and she also got an order of onion rings. The french fries are beer battered but fresh made in house and tasted great. The pricing is very reasonable. If I lived in this area, I would get food here a couple of times a month. Enjoy!

Chicken strips

I ate here on a Tuesday at 230pm, so it wasn't very busy. So I understand that the vibe wasn't up to its full potential. The restaurant's cute, but the walls are mostly barren, lacking photos or paintings. Some decoration would be nice! Servers were nice and came around frequently. The food was okay. The cookies n cream milkshake was really sweet, but I also have a low sugar tolerance so it's really my fault for expecting otherwise. Same thought process with the meal- I ordered chicken strips expecting something that wasn't heavy, but it's fried chicken strips, so of course it's heavy. The food and drinks were tasty otherwise, and I could tell they were homemade.

Yes the food is good, they have a great menu with a lot of options. My daughter got a chicken ceasar wrap and fries. The bartender took our order, gave suggestions and was easy on the eyes too lol. It was mother's day and While we waited we looked around, considered the mother's Day specials and noticed how cozy and invite bar and restaurant was. The food was ready fairly quick and we took it to a picnic in Byrd park. I would highly recommend them.

Grilled Cheese- the fries were delicious too!

Stopped in for a quick bite and had a great time! Everyone was so friendly, and the food came out so fast! We tried to get a seat on the new rooftop but unfortunately it was all taken up, but inside and the patio is very spacious.

First time to this place after living in Richmond for 3 years was mostly a success! We arrived around 1pm on a sunny, warm Saturday and there were still a couple of seats left on the rooftop, which was a great surprise. The service was slow to start, but once the server noticed us, the flow of food and drinks was quick and easy from there. The food is nothing to write home about at all, but it was okay for munching while enjoying the sunshine and drinks. The drinks were really good and fairly reasonably priced. This is definitely a place to come to hang out rather than to sit down for a good meal, but that's exactly the vibe I was looking for. Also... don't forget your sunscreen.

Ruben, very tasty!

Food was great, good service too, and the atmosphere was very festive (went during Christmas). There was a minor issue, the egg from the the sailor sandwich was placed on the club sandwich, but they took care of it right away. Recommend!

The Sailor sandwich, house special... You get to put it together and it's delish!

Pretzels with Beer Cheese
Elko P.

The interior of the restaurant is very inviting and colorful. The pretzel with beer cheese was absolutely delicious and tasted homemade and fresh. The Italian was a bit messy, but the flavors went along brilliantly. And though it's a dollar upcharge, I highly reccomend the plantains as a side. Overall, a lovely restaurant in the heart of Carytown.

The Sailor sandwich--would definitely get again

Spinach artichoke dip & the Sailor sandwich were both great. Service was friendly and speedy. I liked the ambiance too. Definitely will come back

I love the local vibes and great food at Deli. I appreciate that the staff remember me every time I visit. Braxton is my favorite server. She is friendly, efficient and has great customer service. This is a fun place to have brunch or have cocktails. It's my go to for meeting friends or a night out. Lots of fun themed events to enjoy as well like Karaoke or trivia night.

This used to be the hangout spot when I was in college. Now I rarely ever go, but a friend suggested it for lunch today because we figured it would be quick enough to be done in time for a meeting later. Parking is usually terrible in Carytown, but I managed to find a spot on Cary Street a few feet away from NY Deli. My friend arrived shortly before me and ordered herself a Diet Coke, and a water for me. I ordered a club sandwich on white bread with fries when I arrived. My friend then ordered pastrami, scrambled eggs, and Swiss on an English muffin and fries. When the food arrived, since I never ordered a "real" drink from our waiter (it slipped my mind, and the waiter never asked), I asked the server (different person from our waiter) for a glass of pineapple juice which was delivered promptly. The fries were fantastic - battered and crispy. One side of my club's bread slice was burnt but hidden facedown. I don't mind visually dark bread if it tastes alright, but the flavor was burnt and bitter. It ruined my craving for the club, so I sent back the sandwich and opted for an order of pretzels instead. The beer cheese looked a bit weird and watery but was pretty good. I will caution that it's a strong, sharp cheese. The pretzels were soft, piping hot, and glistening with butter. Pretty tasty. When the waiter returned with the check, my friend had left for the restroom. I confirmed to the waiter that we wanted separate checks. He looked at my empty glass and asked, "What was this? Just an orange juice?" I responded that it was pineapple juice. He then asked, "And just the pretzels and the water?" I told him yes and then paid. Unfortunately, they have one of those mobile pay terminals where they read you your total and you immediately pay right there. I usually ask them to print out my tab before paying, but it was such a small order I decided to simply pay. The waiter then got to my friend to close out but tried to add the pineapple juice to her tab. He then turned to me with a snarky tone and said, "I JUST asked you if it was just the pretzels and the water and you said yes." I maintained my composure and reminded him that he asked me about the juice when preparing my tab and I didn't realize that (or understand why) he omitted it. My friend graciously put it on her tab and I reimbursed her. We all make mistakes and have misunderstandings, but the nasty tone was uncalled for. I'm glad a more patient version of me responded to this situation instead of college-age me because WHEW, tf?! Given the only saving grace today was the fries, I see no reason to return to NY Deli unless I'm hanging out with someone else who wants to go.

It is fast casual - you order at the kiosk and grab a place to eat, listening for your number and/or text to alert you the food is ready. We arrived about 6pm on a Saturday night. It was busy and I grabbed one of the last two tables. It got very busy shortly after we placed our orders. The dining area is pretty big with plenty of bar seating around the windows. While we all ordered one after the other, our food didn't come out that way. Most of the food came out in about 25-30 minutes. The chicken was cooked perfectly. Juicy! Two people got tenders and three of us got sandwiches. The OG sandwich was very good, just messy! I ended up using a fork and knife bc it got too messy. The Mac and cheese was made with pimento cheese and was very good. My friend who got the fried green tomatoes said they were delicious and filling. Lots of goodies on top. Two friends enjoyed the collards. The only person who was underwhelmed was the person who got the Asian sandwich. Overall, if I wanted a good chicken sandwich and a Buttermilk and Honey was nearby, I'd place an order.

We walked in to find the staff bustling, cooking, and prepping orders, and the smell of some delicious fried chicken in the air. I saw the kiosks and was not too thrilled with the Wawa experience, but we gave it a shot anyway, since fried chicken is one of our favorites. The process was simple and allowed us to add or remove anything we could want, so that was nice. While walking to find a seat, we saw a person panhandling in the dining area, but the staff promptly removed him from the premises. I ordered us the Pimento Cheese Balls for an appetizer, and I chose the Fried Chicken and French Toast as my entree because I always try the "chicken and waffles" at every establishment that offers it. My partner ordered the OG Chicken Sandwich without tomato, and it came with crinkle-cut fries. It was about $40. The chef proclaimed our order was ready in quick succession, maybe three orders behind the guests before us. We waited about ten minutes, maybe fifteen at most. We picked up the orders from the counter, and there was a mix-up on the syrup, but the chef promptly rectified the situation. He was a no-nonsense kind of guy; straight to the point. He seemed firm, yet kind. It was clear the day had been a busy one; he even told us as much, which was great to hear (busy = fantastic food). The French toast squares looked like rye or pumpernickel, and they emitted a sweet aroma, a delightful hit of cinnamon and brown sugar. I drizzled the caramel syrup on my chicken and toast, sliced a piece, and paired a bite of chicken with the toast. I closed my eyes to savor the flavors: the toast was crunchy and almost gooey (yet, not overly so), the chicken was crunchy, the sweet cinnamon-y flavors from the toast, the caramel from the syrup, and the tender, moist chicken were a match made in culinary art. I cannot sufficiently describe the French toast in a way that would do it justice; it was crunchy and semi-gooey, and all scrumptious. I can only say it was the single best French toast that I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. Next, I tried the fried pimento cheese balls. Oh my. If you like mozzarella sticks, try these. I adored them: elevated fried cheese, for real. My partner enjoyed her sandwich as well; she ate everything except some of her fries. I saved half of my chicken and toast for today because I am like a treasure golem when it comes to delicious leftovers. I am going to air-fry the chicken and skillet-heat the toast back to its original goodness. I told the cooks that that was the best French toast that I have ever had, and I mean it. Do yourself a favor and try it if you're into French toast. This one is the GOAT. Side note: I spoke with the head chef outside, and he is from another branch (possibly Henrico?) to whip this location back into shape. Two words: "Nailed it."

I have no idea what that means, but they have good sandwiches. What to get: A Prosciutto sandwich with Fresh Mozzarella added, maybe What else: Expect an upcharge to add Fresh Mozz How to improve: Don't upcharge so much for Fresh Mozz (sigh) Nick's is a little run-down grocery store which sort-of feels like walking into a check-cashing shop or an urban convenience store that just happens to have a wonderful old-school NY-NJ style Italian deli inside. The deli itself is great, and makes a lot of awesome sandwiches for decent prices. As I said, I don't like the weird upcharges for certain ingredients, but so be it. It makes the prices of a sandwich soar from decent to ridiculous. The sandwiches aren't altogether authentic Italian NY-NJ style, but they are very good. I loved the parts of it that I had fresh, however when I had the rest of the sandwich a little later it had gotten extremely squidgy and soggy because they use a regular loaf of bread rather than anythng hard or Italian. Again, makes it less authentic but still very tasty. Despite these remarks, I haven't had a sandwich this good in the Richmond area before, so you should give it a try. And if it were Niche Produce, then they'd only sell unusual and hard to get hipster vegetables and sandwiches. Whereas if it wer Nix Produce, it would close down soon. And if it were Knickers Produce then I would have torn them down a lot more quickly and intensely than I did in this review.
