Overall a positive experience, although the subs didn't quite hit as much as we were hoping for. We got the Industrial and Smoked Turkey. Both good, although I wish there was a little more meat on each (especially the turkey one). Sometimes I'm sketched out with mayo on a sandwich but it turned out really good on the smoked turkey because it's a hot sub so the mayo melted a little bit. Staff was super friendly, especially Jeff, and there was way more seating than we expected. Love the outside tables too so pups can join. Jeff did say that we could modify any sub or build our own - I think I'll do that next time to customize to my specific taste interests. read more

Coppola's has a great selection of sandwiches. The inside is a nostalgic feel and the staff is very friendly. The mediterranean magic sandwich is delicious. They are a bit pricey for the size, but this a great spot to go in Carytown if you'd like a sandwich and soda! read more

Small but mighty. Despite there being a line, it moved very quickly. The sandwiches were great. It's a little pricey and doesn't include a side BUT they are great sandwiches and I love that they avoid seed oils and MSG. Definitely will be back. read more

Will certainly stop in here again on my next trip to Richmond. Very cozy neighborhood deli with friendly staff. I tried out the industrial which did not disappoint and the potato salad which I really enjoyed. Also, ordered was the spaghetti in meatballs, which was a good size but the sauce looked watery and I personally wouldn't get. I can't recall what the third sandwich was called but was also super tasty. read more

So glad to have had an opportunity to stop in here. In business for over 42 years, they know what they are doing. Their Mediterranean sandwich and pesto pasta are absolutely amazing! Don't miss out on having a crème brûlée, especially the ones with fruit compote on top, as they are life-changing. One of a kind spot. I know now why it's been a 40+ year staple in Richmond. Old-style reliable deli that doesn't seem like it has missed a beat since it first opened. Truly never had anything like the Cheese Colombo - think the cheese-equivalent of burnt ends - but in a sandwich?! Like how cool is that. So incredibly crispy with the most delectable of fillings (i.e. peppers) that gave such a surprising counter-taste to the rest of the ingredients... seriously, it was just incredible. Every bite took me on a trip. Pesto pasta salad was solid too - reminds me of the side dishes my family used to take home in bulk from our local deli back in Cleveland. Service was quick and respectable. Will be going here many many more times over the next few years - I am sure of it. read more

I've been meaning to try this place so I was in the neighborhood and finally gave it a try. I ordered my food online which was so convenient and I got there when it first opened so I was able to beat the lunch rush. My food was ready pretty quickly. I ordered the Industrial House Special. With taxes and everything, it came out to $20 which is pretty pricey. The sandwich itself was a decent size but I don't know if it justifies $20. It was a delicious sandwich though. Bread was soft and warm and the ingredients tasted fresh. I'll probably be back again when in the area. read more

We had a taste for sandwiches so we decided to check out Coppola's Deli located in Carytown and is a Richmond institution since 1982. I cannot believe nobody has ever told me about this place. We approached the counter not knowing what we wanted and the cashier was very patient with us. He offered some popular suggestions. The service was great and there's a small eat in area or outside seating if you can't wait to eat it at home. I settled on the Industrial made hot which is a traditional Italian Hero and it was the best damn Italian I've ever had in my life! The bread was everything! It took me way too long to discover this and I'm pretty sure I'll become a regular now. And if you are a RVA native and haven't been. Shame on you haha! Go check them out y'all and get sandwich high like we did LOL. read more

Came in per recommendation of a friend. The shop is very small but has its own personal charm and style that I found very appealing. They have a laaaarge menu with a variety of sandwiches for all diets so I would say they're quite accommodating. I'll be honest... I can't remember what we had but it was all so delicious, I only managed to remember to het pictures after we had all eaten a hefty portion of our meals! The meats taste fresh, with great balance in flavors! Their service is fast. Staff is very welcoming, very kind. It's a great place to get things on the go, but if you're feel like sitting down, would be mindful it's not great for a large party. Maybe just with a significant other, a friend or two. read more

Been looking for a great Italian sub in Richmond ever since one of my favorites closed. I've been wanting to try Coppola's so I stopped by to pick up lunch on a Sunday. It feels very much like a small deli in NYC which is cool and unique in Richmond. I was surprised by the number of tables inside too! It was busy but also not impossible to find somewhere to sit or stand while waiting for my food. The staff was super friendly and willing to give recommendations! I got the industrial which is their #1 sandwich, definitely like an Italian. It was packed with flavor and I liked how thin the sub roll was so I tasted all the ingredients. It was pretty messy and greasy though which surprised me. The fact that it was open faced definitely made it messier. Not the most memorable sandwich to me but I did like it! If you like Bernie's Subs in the west end of RVA then this is a great place to try too!! The feel of the restaurant was my favorite part though so I would go back and try something else. read more

Just moved to Richmond and decided to explore the Carytown neighborhood today. While walking around, I noticed Coppola's Deli and decided to give it a try. I opted for the Industrial to go. While I enjoyed the sandwich, I think it would have been better eaten hot as the bread was a bit soggy from the ingredients by the time I ate it. I will definitely give this place another shot when I have more time to sit and eat there. read more

I have been searching for a good sub place in RVA and this is the best one! Super fresh ingredients, large portions, and well put together. I ordered takeout and all of my food was the perfect temp. When it arrived. The sub had lots of flavor and the potato salad and pesto salad are both very tasty too. Every time I walk by this place, my mouth waters but for some reason, I have never gotten around to stopping in. I finally changed that recently and my only regret is every other time when I walked by without stopping here. Stopped by with a friend during a shopping trip and we were both pulled in. We had the hardest time making a decision, but the super friendly guy cooking recommended that if it was the outside smell that brought us in, we should try something with grilled onions and peppers since that was what he thought was enticing us in. After some very hard narrowing down, we decided on a Grilled Smoked Turkey and a Soppressata sandwich. The super friendly lady ringing us up recommended Lilly's Potato Salad because it is one of her favorite things on the menu, so we decided to give it a try too. We loved the potato salad. It was awesome, perfectly flavorful and nice and creamy dressing. Very tasty. We each grabbed half of each sandwich to split and started with the soppressata and loved it... until we realized that we should probably eat the hot sandwich while it was still hot and started on it instead - intending to go back to the first sandwich... The turkey sandwich... I'm not entirely certain that it is legal to love a sandwich that much. The grilled sweet peppers are just a little sweet and just a little heat, the meat was thinly sliced but piled THICCC, the veggies are fresh... They even have a chalkboard sign naming where they locally buy their produce and bread and everything. We both agreed that we were ruined for all other sandwiches after that one. Luckily, we went around 12:30 on a Wednesday, so there was just to-go orders when we came in, and a few guys on lunch break came in after us, so it was not crowded at all, and the food was super quick. I will definitely be back, this deli is awesome. read more

A hands down winner for Italian Subs. They offer a variety of combinations with the Industrial and the Real Italian Hero being some of the popular options! I really enjoyed the older/vintage ambiance that comes with the dinning experience. Many awards are on the walls and service was fast as well! Coppolas is one of my favorite places to grab a sandwich in Richmond. They have a small locations on the corner in in carytown. The only real downside is they are really only open for lunch, so get there early. I love the fresh grilled subs, with peppers and onions along with the homemade sides like potato salad and pasta salad. I usually get the turkey sub, service is always quick and friendly. If your in carytown for lunch definitely check them out! read more

Best sandwiches in Cary town! A TRUE Italian deli with fresh ingredients and it definitely feels like everything is prepared with love. Whenever I get a hankering for a cold cut, meatball sub, a Reuben, or one of the numerous creations this places has to offer; I can't resist stopping in to grab a sandwich. We visited Coppola's Deli in Richmond with our two little ones and were pleased to find a cozy spot in the back where we could sit, eat, and let our toddler be as wiggly as she wanted to be. The ambiance was relaxed, making it a comfortable place for families with young children. Mom opted for the Richmond Cheese Steak sandwich and absolutely loved it. It was warm, cheesy, and the bread was excellent. I chose the turkey sandwich with sun-dried tomatoes and added some hot peppers, which provided delightfully spicy, vinegary bites. My husband went for the Industrial, one of their most famous sandwiches, and he was very impressed. While all the sandwiches had a good amount of meat, they were quite small for the price. We found ourselves still a bit hungry after finishing our meals. Despite this, we thoroughly enjoyed the flavors and overall experience at Coppola's Deli. read more

Today was a $25 lesson that the best subs are Publix, Jersey Mike's, and Jimmy Johns in that order. My sub was so gross. I'm so sad about it. The bread wasn't even toasted on my hot sub. It was soft and doughy and almost rubbery. The meat was so tiny and it had the smallest amount of cheese. The tomatoes were literally the ends of the tomatoes, so small. It literally tasted like a hospital cafeteria or airport sub. Overall, it was half-assed and should never have been sent out. I am beyond disappointed and definitely won't be back. read more

Maybe my expectations were too high, but I really did expect more. I had the Reuben and my husband had The Industrial. They were both forgettable. $30.00 for two basic sandwiches, no drinks, and no sides. I really like to support local as I understand everything is expensive right now. 1pm Thursday 8/26/21 Very nice customer service. The gentleman that took my order was extremely nice. I ordered a Reuben Sandwich w/extra cheese & potato salad. Limited seating inside but they had about 5 extra tables outside. Who doesn't like to eat outside, right? The gentleman that brought me my food was also very nice. Unfortunately it didn't appear to have the extra cheese I ordered. No big deal, they took my plate and made it right, no issues. Ty for that. The sandwich was very tasty/flavorful. The red skin potato salad was ok. Potato salad is missing some seasoning. Maybe even a little salt would help. I missed not having a pickle on the side. Maybe y'all could incorporate that? I will definitely return for the Reuben and I'd like to also try the South Bronx Club. That's looks scrumptious! read more

as other reviews have mentioned, i see this place every time in in cary town but i've just never gone it. i'm glad i did though, because this is the best sandwich place i've ever had. the interior is adorable with the familiar decorations. it just reminds you of your youth. the staff was incredibly friendly too! my girlfriend that is argentinian (lots of similar culture values) said that it felt like someplace her parents would love. along with that, the menu options are amazing. it was so hard to chose one sandwich, but we settled to share the italian hero and industrial house special. both were amazing and had a sweet and slightly tangy flavor. the italian hero was served on a baguette, and they definitely did not shy away from putting on ingredients (i love a prosciutto sandwich). they have a different set of soda options, which are not pictured in this review but was way better than your typical coca cola. overall, don't walk past this place! it's worth it! read more

This is exactly what I was looking for when I told my boyfriend I wanted a sub, but not your Subway or Firehouse Subs kind of sub. Fresh and quality ingredients and stellar service! One of the best things about RVA is locally owned and operated shops such as Coppola's! This place was such a treat and we both thoroughly enjoyed our subs. The sweet peppers on the Turkey Honey are to die for! And the bacon on The Rancher was still perfectly crisp despite being covered in cheese and ranch. Overall wonderful experience although you should note it is pretty pricy. I paid $31 for my two subs and a bag of chips but hey, it satisfied my craving! Definitely check them out! read more

Very small space and not much room to dine-in but my Lord this sandwich shop knows what they are doing! I Ordered the Industrial and it was one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. Can't believe it took me this long to finally try out this place from Carytown! My friend and I had just created a list to go venture through the restaurants of Cary town and this was the first stop to hit up. I'm so glad that we did because I have clearly been missing out! They have a great selection of sandwiches to choose from for their lunch specials. I decided on their Grilled Smoke Chicken sandwich and I have no regrets! The service and service were both quick and the presentation was amazing! It was Instapic gorgeous haha. The taste was delicious and I will definitely be coming back here for more! I can't believe for as long as I use to live in the Fan and Museum District - I did not grab their sandwiches before. I've seen pictures and great reviews of their Industrial sandwich and already plan on getting that one next time. read more

Meet the Business Owner: Tom R.

Owner Tom grew up around his grandfather's Deli in his childhood. As such, it was only a natural progression for him to open his own deli when he could. Since Coppola's has opened its doors, Tom has realized his dream of recreating his grandfather's deli and has taken steps to further his legacy. Tom hopes that you will one day become part of the long list of happy customers that Coppola's considers family.

Also got the seafood bisque which was pretty tasty. For entrees we got the halibut, the monk fish fra diavolo and the spaghetti with crab meat. The spaghetti with crab meat was shockingly good. It better be for $40 but I don't always like crab bc it can be overly fishy in a not good way but this entree was very good. We also liked the halibut- nice piece of fish perfectly cooked. The MonkFish had a nice flavor, but the bones in it was a little bit overwhelming, and kinda made eating a lot of work. Seemed pricey to me since only one of us had a glass of wine and no other drinks, but I guess $50 a person sans cocktails and dessert is the new norm?!

This was very good too with a hint of spiciness. For dessert, the bunet was fantastic. It's chocolate, almond with amaretto. Love the texture. It was light and very good. Service was fantastic. Once you've told them food restrictions, everyone serving your table will know it without asking you again. The sommelier was very nice. If you're taking out your food, you'll receive a small piece of paper like for coat checks and you can get it when you leave. I don't mind the walk, but anybody with mobility challenges, might find it tough to get there on time unless they can get dropped off. For cocktails our friends got a very swanky bottle of white wine by Cinque Terre. My husband and I got mixed drinks : the Italian stallion and the ciao fantasy. Very different experiences, but both very good. The Italian stallion was complex yet refreshing and the ciao fantasy was complex and smooth. For appetizers, we got the beef tartare and the Borlatti farro verde. Again, both very different but equally delicious. The tartar obviously more a protein forward appetizer that had a smooth richness brought out by the egg and the well chopped beef. The extra sourdough was a nice touch. The Borlatti was the perfect starter for a spring evening and I actually enjoyed it more than my entrée. It has a lightness to it, but also richly satisfying, especially with the sourdough. For the entrées, we went back to our favorites from last time which was the cavatappi and the rockfish. I enjoyed the cavatappi more but I was trying to get more protein and less simple carbs so I stuck with the rock fish. This time the fish was not a great piece and had very little edible protein because of the bloodline running down the center of it, so for $38 it felt a bit stingy because I needed more of the fish than the slightly over spiced rice and sausage. Did not feel like a good choice for the evening. I did not finish and went back to my appetizer to satisfy any hunger pains left. Definitely disappointed that there was no specials for the evening and a lot of the menu seems pretty similar to the last time we were there. Also seems like fewer choices at least for the small plates. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful and again really enjoyed the atmosphere. However. Everything seems overpriced these days but even though prices haven't shifted that much at LL on this occasion, $172 after tax but before tip seemed a bit much for Richmond. Feels like everything is a few dollars over what the price point should be especially if it's not done to perfection. We will probably go back but not for a long while bc of price but also because of menu options. There are several restaurants in Church Hill that bring more bang for your buck.
