Overall a positive experience, although the subs didn't quite hit as much as we were hoping for. We got the Industrial and Smoked Turkey. Both good, although I wish there was a little more meat on each (especially the turkey one). Sometimes I'm sketched out with mayo on a sandwich but it turned out really good on the smoked turkey because it's a hot sub so the mayo melted a little bit. Staff was super friendly, especially Jeff, and there was way more seating than we expected. Love the outside tables too so pups can join. Jeff did say that we could modify any sub or build our own - I think I'll do that next time to customize to my specific taste interests. read more

One of a kind spot. I know now why it's been a 40+ year staple in Richmond. Old-style reliable deli that doesn't seem like it has missed a beat since it first opened. Truly never had anything like the Cheese Colombo - think the cheese-equivalent of burnt ends - but in a sandwich?! Like how cool is that. So incredibly crispy with the most delectable of fillings (i.e. peppers) that gave such a surprising counter-taste to the rest of the ingredients... seriously, it was just incredible. Every bite took me on a trip. Pesto pasta salad was solid too - reminds me of the side dishes my family used to take home in bulk from our local deli back in Cleveland. I ordered my food online which was so convenient and I got there when it first opened so I was able to beat the lunch rush. My food was ready pretty quickly. I ordered the Industrial House Special. With taxes and everything, it came out to $20 which is pretty pricey. The sandwich itself was a decent size but I don't know if it justifies $20. It was a delicious sandwich though. It was busy but also not impossible to find somewhere to sit or stand while waiting for my food. The staff was super friendly and willing to give recommendations! I got the industrial which is their #1 sandwich, definitely like an Italian. It was packed with flavor and I liked how thin the sub roll was so I tasted all the ingredients. It was pretty messy and greasy though which surprised me. The fact that it was open faced definitely made it messier. Not the most memorable sandwich to me but I did like it! If you like Bernie's Subs in the west end of RVA then this is a great place to try too!! The feel of the restaurant was my favorite part though so I would go back and try something else. read more

We had a taste for sandwiches so we decided to check out Coppola's Deli located in Carytown and is a Richmond institution since 1982. I cannot believe nobody has ever told me about this place. We approached the counter not knowing what we wanted and the cashier was very patient with us. He offered some popular suggestions. The service was great and there's a small eat in area or outside seating if you can't wait to eat it at home. I settled on the Industrial made hot which is a traditional Italian Hero and it was the best damn Italian I've ever had in my life! The bread was everything! While I enjoyed the sandwich, I think it would have been better eaten hot as the bread was a bit soggy from the ingredients by the time I ate it. Every time I walk by this place, my mouth waters but for some reason, I have never gotten around to stopping in. I finally changed that recently and my only regret is every other time when I walked by without stopping here. Stopped by with a friend during a shopping trip and we were both pulled in. We had the hardest time making a decision, but the super friendly guy cooking recommended that if it was the outside smell that brought us in, we should try something with grilled onions and peppers since that was what he thought was enticing us in. After some very hard narrowing down, we decided on a Grilled Smoked Turkey and a Soppressata sandwich. The super friendly lady ringing us up recommended Lilly's Potato Salad because it is one of her favorite things on the menu, so we decided to give it a try too. We loved the potato salad. It was awesome, perfectly flavorful and nice and creamy dressing. Very tasty. We each grabbed half of each sandwich to split and started with the soppressata and loved it... until we realized that we should probably eat the hot sandwich while it was still hot and started on it instead - intending to go back to the first sandwich... The turkey sandwich... I'm not entirely certain that it is legal to love a sandwich that much. The grilled sweet peppers are just a little sweet and just a little heat, the meat was thinly sliced but piled THICCC, the veggies are fresh... They even have a chalkboard sign naming where they locally buy their produce and bread and everything. We both agreed that we were ruined for all other sandwiches after that one. Luckily, we went around 12:30 on a Wednesday, so there was just to-go orders when we came in, and a few guys on lunch break came in after us, so it was not crowded at all, and the food was super quick. Today was a $25 lesson that the best subs are Publix, Jersey Mike's, and Jimmy Johns in that order. My sub was so gross. I'm so sad about it. The bread wasn't even toasted on my hot sub. It was soft and doughy and almost rubbery. The meat was so tiny and it had the smallest amount of cheese. The tomatoes were literally the ends of the tomatoes, so small. It literally tasted like a hospital cafeteria or airport sub. Overall, it was half-assed and should never have been sent out. I am beyond disappointed and definitely won't be back. read more

Limited seating inside but they had about 5 extra tables outside. Who doesn't like to eat outside, right? The gentleman that brought me my food was also very nice. Unfortunately it didn't appear to have the extra cheese I ordered. No big deal, they took my plate and made it right, no issues. Ty for that. The sandwich was very tasty/flavorful. The red skin potato salad was ok. Potato salad is missing some seasoning. Maybe even a little salt would help. I missed not having a pickle on the side. Maybe y'all could incorporate that? as other reviews have mentioned, i see this place every time in in cary town but i've just never gone it. i'm glad i did though, because this is the best sandwich place i've ever had. the interior is adorable with the familiar decorations. it just reminds you of your youth. the staff was incredibly friendly too! my girlfriend that is argentinian (lots of similar culture values) said that it felt like someplace her parents would love. along with that, the menu options are amazing. it was so hard to chose one sandwich, but we settled to share the italian hero and industrial house special. both were amazing and had a sweet and slightly tangy flavor. the italian hero was served on a baguette, and they definitely did not shy away from putting on ingredients (i love a prosciutto sandwich). they have a different set of soda options, which are not pictured in this review but was way better than your typical coca cola. overall, don't walk past this place! it's worth it! read more

This is exactly what I was looking for when I told my boyfriend I wanted a sub, but not your Subway or Firehouse Subs kind of sub. Fresh and quality ingredients and stellar service! One of the best things about RVA is locally owned and operated shops such as Coppola's! This place was such a treat and we both thoroughly enjoyed our subs. The sweet peppers on the Turkey Honey are to die for! And the bacon on The Rancher was still perfectly crisp despite being covered in cheese and ranch.
