Stuffy's is a family favorite. I've been coming to Stuffy's locations since I was a child and am sad most have closed but so grateful this location is going strong. The Great Garden and Virginian are our favorites. It has a nostalgic vibe, with a few arcade games.

**3.75 It's been years since I've touched base here. I was greeted and helped right away. I chose the spicy Italian sub and added: LTO, pesto, oil and vinegar on an Italian roll, steamed. Good stuff.

This is the BEST old school sub shop. Fresh veggies, meats and bread. The service is unbelievable. The is truly a RVA landmark for food Great prices!!!

When I walked in, I was hit by a wave of dank, moldy aroma... that should've told me something. This Stuffy's has been around for decades, and frankly, it looks like it. But, my Mom wanted a sub and she rules! So I ordered the Star (like an Italian sub) with double meat. The extra meat made up for the spongy, chewy bread. The lettuce looked past its prime, but the other fillings looked fine. My purse took a hit for the amount of food I received. I wasn't impressed with this sub... but the stars are for the friendly staff. Next time we'll go get stuffed elsewhere.

    My disappointing Gyro

My wife and I had a lunch craving for a Stuffy's sandwich and gyro. We used to love going to the location off of Forest Hill Ave before it closed. Amy reminised about the vinegar sauce mixing mayonnaise and heaps of lettuce on her sandwich. I reminded her of how scrumtious and huge the super gyro covered in tatziki sauce was. To satisfy our craving we set on a mission eat at the one on Midlothian Turnpike only to find out is now another sub shop.. ughh... Ok so we searched online to find that the Libbie and Grace location was open. "To the batmobile Robin" I exclaimed. We arrived and easily found street parking about a block away. It looked nice from the outside and offered some outdoor seating. I love the picture in the mens room. The sandwich order guy offered no smiles but was professional and seemed very knowledgeable about the bread and sandwiches. Of course I went with the Super Gyro ($12) extra tatziki and Amy went with the Turkey and provolone ($7), extra cheese, extra vinegar. We disappointedly watched as he placed a few thin measly pieces of meat on the griddle. (Maybe he thinks I ordered a mini one). I confirmed that I ordered a Super Gyro. Once it came to table. Meh... No effort on presentation, my bread was not a pita. It was thin like a soft taco shell and fell apart as I tried to eat it. Meat had the consistency of a spongy riblet tv dinner. Soooo disappointing.. look at my picture.. :(. Amy's sammich didn't live up to her expectations either. Totally not worth the price paid. We really wanted to like it but couldn't. It would great if there was some consistency across the Stuffy's brand..

I have had my fair share of subs in life. This is without a doubt the best sub I have ever had. The bread is sooooo fluffy and amazing and all of the flavors go together perfectly. Stuffy's Subs is a very authentic, old-fashioned, no frills sub shop and it is perfect just like that.

From the outside I wanted to like this place, it seemed like a quaint little sub shop. There were a few people eating lunch outside on their small patio area. When I walked in the shop I was hit with a sense of time warp, back to 1995. There were what appeared to be specials written on a white board hanging on the counter and regular menu on the wall behind it. I don't believe these are true specials in the sense that they change daily. I will give the guy working behind the counter some credit, I asked for some suggestions and he was genuinely helpful, I settled on the Stuffy's Star at his suggestion. The Star is their version of an Italian style sub with Ham, Genoa Salami, Cappacola, Proscuittini, Provolone. The meat is sliced fresh per your order and you pick the rest of the toppings "Subway Style" from the offerings behind the glass. A regular sized sub here will run you roughly $5 plus tax which I suppose it not terrible. I think what ultimately missed the mark for me here was the bread. It was obviously not fresh baked (he pulled it out of a plastic bag) and a bit dry. A good sandwich or sub has to have a good foundation. The meats and cheese were decent but nothing that was artisanal by any means. I only put lettuce (shredded) and a bit of mayo on the sub which did nothing to combat the dryness. Not sure if I'd give this place another go at this time. If they spruced up the menu and got some fresh bread I think it would go a long way to boosting this places sales. They could also stand a little face-lift store wise, but if the food it good they will come regardless as long as it's clean.

Not much flavor. Kids chicken strips were a chicken patty that was overcooked and cut up. Also came out lukewarm at best. The Rueben was soggy and had about three slices of meat on it. Very little sauce on the sandwich no and was charged for extra when I asked for more. Added the Parmesan truffle fries which were powered Parmesan with some truffle oil sprinkled on top. Again all lukewarm. The Timberwolf burger had maybe two jalapeño's on it and the onions were burnt. The regular burgers and kids are the same size. Housemade pickles were soggy and the cucumber skins were tough. The quality of food from when we had eaten here a couple years ago was subpar in comparison. If you are going to charge for upscale items then they need to be upscale in the quality of what you are serving. Will not be back.

Our server was Braxton, a delightful young lady. She was witty and a diligent server and all the things...and she did not steer us wrong when it came to the food. My husband and I both had a taste for ordering an Italian sub and Braxton said we would not be sorry if we ordered it, and we were not. I was literally moaning with almost every bite. I am a potato salad connoisseur. I will not eat it unless it is freshly made. I don't do any of the grocery store type of potato salads. (Gross!) I asked Braxton about it and she said that in general, she doesn't even like potato salad, but at this restaurant, she absolutely loves it and highly recommends it. Knowing it is freshly made on site, plus her recommendation, I decided to try it. Oh my word! This potato salad is straight from the portals of heaven. Sooooooo good. This might not seem like a big deal, but it's a very big deal to me. I like freshly brewed tea. Nothing bottled. Nothing out of a soda machine. (Disgusting!) I asked Braxton if the tea was actually brewed there and she said yes. Tea is not the same everywhere. Sometimes it's so weak, you don't even realize it's tea. Not here! It was perfect. This makes a huge difference to me as when my beverage is perfect, I enjoy my meal a lot more. The entire meal was top notch. The service was absolutely excellent. We loved having Braxton and would ask for her again. A DJ was setting up as we were eating. We learned that they have karaoke and trivia nights earlier in the week as well as dance nights on the weekends. My husband and I mentioned that we would definitely come back and bring friends. It was busy and I grabbed one of the last two tables. It got very busy shortly after we placed our orders. The dining area is pretty big with plenty of bar seating around the windows. While we all ordered one after the other, our food didn't come out that way. Most of the food came out in about 25-30 minutes. The chicken was cooked perfectly. Juicy! Two people got tenders and three of us got sandwiches. The OG sandwich was very good, just messy! I ended up using a fork and knife bc it got too messy. The Mac and cheese was made with pimento cheese and was very good. My friend who got the fried green tomatoes said they were delicious and filling. Lots of goodies on top. We walked in to find the staff bustling, cooking, and prepping orders, and the smell of some delicious fried chicken in the air. I saw the kiosks and was not too thrilled with the Wawa experience, but we gave it a shot anyway, since fried chicken is one of our favorites. The process was simple and allowed us to add or remove anything we could want, so that was nice. While walking to find a seat, we saw a person panhandling in the dining area, but the staff promptly removed him from the premises. I ordered us the Pimento Cheese Balls for an appetizer, and I chose the Fried Chicken and French Toast as my entree because I always try the "chicken and waffles" at every establishment that offers it. My partner ordered the OG Chicken Sandwich without tomato, and it came with crinkle-cut fries. It was about $40. The chef proclaimed our order was ready in quick succession, maybe three orders behind the guests before us. We waited about ten minutes, maybe fifteen at most. We picked up the orders from the counter, and there was a mix-up on the syrup, but the chef promptly rectified the situation. He was a no-nonsense kind of guy; straight to the point. He seemed firm, yet kind. It was clear the day had been a busy one; he even told us as much, which was great to hear (busy = fantastic food). The French toast squares looked like rye or pumpernickel, and they emitted a sweet aroma, a delightful hit of cinnamon and brown sugar. I drizzled the caramel syrup on my chicken and toast, sliced a piece, and paired a bite of chicken with the toast. I closed my eyes to savor the flavors: the toast was crunchy and almost gooey (yet, not overly so), the chicken was crunchy, the sweet cinnamon-y flavors from the toast, the caramel from the syrup, and the tender, moist chicken were a match made in culinary art. I cannot sufficiently describe the French toast in a way that would do it justice; it was crunchy and semi-gooey, and all scrumptious. I can only say it was the single best French toast that I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. Next, I tried the fried pimento cheese balls. Oh my. If you like mozzarella sticks, try these. I adored them: elevated fried cheese, for real. My partner enjoyed her sandwich as well; she ate everything except some of her fries. I saved half of my chicken and toast for today because I am like a treasure golem when it comes to delicious leftovers. I am going to air-fry the chicken and skillet-heat the toast back to its original goodness. I told the cooks that that was the best French toast that I have ever had, and I mean it. Do yourself a favor and try it if you're into French toast. This one is the GOAT. Side note: I spoke with the head chef outside, and he is from another branch (possibly Henrico?) to whip this location back into shape. Two words: "Nailed it."
