Yup whole pieces of lettuce and huge cucumber chunks.

It hurts to put 2 stars as my patronage goes many years back as I've always looked at the care and freshness put into everything they serve! And then here's my sad salad (I order this from time to time as it's fresh and filling seven without meat and this go round I had the box which included a side of choice so I got their yummy pasta salad and cake of choice which was their amazing carrot cake)...I literally had to cut down the veggies (I could have gone to the store if I have to do this part myself). Fresh ingredients, great portions and salad dressings (the balsamic vinaigrette is amazing) but poorly thrown together. But the carrot cake (which is not pictured but if you know you know) was amazing as always!! That cake makes me and my sad salad happy!

Staff is so nice and the food is great. It was nice for them to help educate me on how everything works.

My go-to place to get a simple but delicious homemade sandwich! Everything is made fresh and the staff is really friendly.

Quick bite, yummy and inexpensive. Had to go to this location (a bit out of our way) because the Boulder location was impossible to find!!!

Absolutely the best box lunch in Richmond. Always very fresh and tasty. The staff here are so nice and helpful. A real Richmond institution.

Has a ton of Eastern European mains for your pantry, fridge, and freezer. You will NOT find store bought pierogies as good as the ones they sell. Period. They also have good flavors like sauerkraut and mushroom, potato and truffle for all of the umami loving weirdos like me. I bought a bunch of candy for my boys because it's all imported and doesn't have junk in it. The BAGELS. Got my husband some beer and he just loved it. Def go here. Byeeee PS their other store is having an Oktoberfest on October 10 starting around 5 so if you see this review just go look up their other store in Urbana the owner told me about it yesterday!

It's curated without being precious. I came for lunch and got a pastrami sandwich that I'm still thinking about. Thick like a textbook, moist, flavorful. I don't think I've ever actually had real pastrami until that sandwich. My only real critique is the location. It sits along Broad Street near Willow Lawn and it's one of those places you drive past a dozen times without ever stopping. Slightly hard to access, easy to overlook. That's a shame because this isn't a casual grab-and-go -- it's a destination, even if the vibe is completely unpretentious. A friend suggested it and it made my day. The Greek radio station playing nothing but 80s and 90s covers of songs I grew up with didn't hurt either. Next time I'm not trying to make just one meal of it.

No signage, not detailed on the menu, just an ambush once you've placed your order. It's a bs fee to begin with, but concealing it until the last minute is unethical. I'm guessing it will catch up with y'all as these sorts of sketchy business practices often do.

We were surprised by the size of the restaurant when we walked in. It seems smaller from the outside; not that it was huge, just deceiving. It reminded me of a homey Jason's Deli (IYKYK). The woman at the counter was helpful and kind. We had a few questions about some items on the menu, and she asked the kitchen staff anything that she didn't know offhand. We decided on the fried cauliflower for an appetizer; it was monstrously huge, and much more flavorful than I expected. The spices and textures on the plate added a lot to the dish's overall essence. I ordered the Rachel for an entree, and my partner ordered the Sharona. I subbed the chips for a side salad. The salad was tangy or tart, almost bitter. I didn't mind; I thought it was quite good. It is a lot of acidity if you are not expecting it. The Rachel was fantastic, except that the coleslaw had some onion bits mixed in. We are not onion fans in this household. Ha The Sharona would have been a better choice, as I much prefer pickles to oniony coleslaw. My partner said she really liked hers. We had half a sandwich each for leftovers the next day, and shared the leftover chips, since I finished off my salad the night before. The sandwiches heated up exquisitely in the oven at 325°F for 15 minutes. I felt that Susie's is a definite hidden gem, and I can recommend it to anyone who likes a well-made sandwich. I will be back to sample more of the menu and report back my findings at a future date.
