Loaded Gyro - Look at all that meat! There was fresh lettuce, tomato, & onion underneath it all - So Good!
    J E.

I was in the area for a meeting and was rather hungry, so I drove for a few mins looking for a decent fast food that wasn't the "typical" fried sandwiches and such and as I drove by this parking lot, I noticed all the cars and thought it must be decent, so we stopped in. They were very busy, but only a few people in line ahead of me and then the owner himself took our order. I asked him what's good and he explained that his gyros and fries were amazing, so we went for them. That tzatziki was fresh and tasted so very good! The meat in the gyro was fresh and incredible and the each bite of everything was outstanding! That thing also weighed more than a pound - it was huge! The fries were excellent too, crispy, hot, and fresh! Service was outstanding, so was the food... Highly recommend coming here!!!

Plain and simply put this was a d*mn good sub. I ordered using a food delivery app (Uber eats ) while I was at work probably paid a markup but whatever it is what it is, it has nothing to do with this. But whatever I paid it, and the possible app gouging took a backseat to the fact that the sub was BANGING. They did not skip on meat nor the toppings. The bread was just right, it didn't taste cheapo or stale. Also, I ordered a side of fries and in the comment section of the food delivery app I said "please please no salt on the fries" usually if I make a request like that in the app, it's never honored, they honored it. My only critique is: SERIOUSLY, y'all could've thrown in some napkins to help your girl out. I got sub juice on my shirt. I smelt..smelled ...??...I smelled like a musty under arm the rest of my day. My sub eating technique may or may not have anything to do with me needing napkins. I'm just saying it would've been nice. But I crushed that sub. I said I wasn't gonna eat the whole thing but I did. I ate half waited two hours ate the other half and was full 12 hours later. They gave you a lot of fries. I just wanted a couple 2-3 so I gave them to my coworkers. They liked that they were shoestring. If they were hot, they would've been awesome. But IMMATERIAL. The sub was the star of the show. Go get a sub! The next time I'm over there I'm getting a sub. 5 out of 5 stars would recommend

This place is owned by a family member of the other Main Sub Central that used to be downtown Richmond. Its owner had told me about it. It didn't disappoint! The gyro is what I come for. Loads of meat, delicious tzatziki, totally satisfying. The staff are friendly and the place is clean and has a good seating space.

I've been eating here for over 15 years and it's always the best. The cold cut is the best hot sub ANYWHERE. I moved from Richmond in 2015 but still visit several times a year and a visit to sub central is a must. The owner always remembers me. Asks about how we are. I saw "we" because my children have joined me throughout the years here and he asks how they are as well. The owners parent's cut the veggies fresh still today and he knows almost everyone who walks in. Fantastic dude! The cold cut is the freshest and tastiest hot sub. The mayo, meat, lettuce, tomatoes and onions have always been the same. The bread is toasted perfectly with a soft inner and crunchy outside. Steak and cheese is a staple as well and always stuffed full of meat and cheese. Fries are always hot, crispy and salted right. The ketchup is kept cold for you too. You won't be disappointed.

Absolutely the best Gyro in RVA!

Amazing food, awesome and friendly owner with a place full of regulars and friends. Gyro was just like Chicago with the meat from a spit and piled high with onions and tomatoes. Get the extra Tazicki on the side and sandwich. Amazing and we'll be back.

Ok I went up to this place on a Friday night around 7:55pm.When I went there the guy locked the door as I was walking to it. I told him I've tried to called numerous of times and got no answer and also yall are scheduled to close @9pm which it was no where close to that time. I stood there and watched employees laugh and joke while me and others was outside upset about the unprofessional behavior that was displayed. It's very unfortunate that it had to happened especially when they get so much support from the neighborhood. DISAPPOINTED AND DISTASTEFUL

Family owned business for almost 50 years. Food is fresh and tasty. You can't go wrong with the cheese steak, the Gyros, or any of the subs. Friendly staff. Super clean restaurant. I can't wait to go back for my sub fix.

I ordered a gyro and I have no complaints. It was delicious, service was quick and the guy behind the counter was very welcoming. A little pricey for the gyro meal but other then that, awesome.

    Submarine sandwich

I stopped at this place and got a cold sub sandwich because it reminded me of a spot from back home in Chicago. It was an awesome sandwich - hit the spot for sure! Definitely worth giving a try.

Solid subs, onion rings and fries! Reasonable prices and really fast preparation. Made the subs by the time we got there but made fries and onion rings when I arrived (good ... better fresh!). All the subs are 12" and really big with plenty of meat! Probably could have used more provolone cheese on the steak and cheese as well as tszatiki sauce for the gyro. Both we chose to get without tomatoes but perfect otherwise (my wife likes extra mayo and banana peppers which those are a little extra - 35¢ I think). You could eat there but really seems intended for takeout. Just a little far to get home so the food gets a little not hot that's the only downside.

It was a weekday after work. I went to my homegirl's house because I missed her birthday I offered to take her out someplace nice. She said no way man and immediately said we were going to this sandwich shop. This was the only thing she wanted. So we were gonna veg out on her couch. Have a couple cocktails and whatever else and watch something on TV. And her new couch is the bees knees. For me, the sandwich was perfect. The bread was beautiful and crusty. I was afraid it was going to be toasted and too crusty, and I'd be fighting to bite it and my sandwich guts spilling out while cutting up my gums and the roof of my mouth like it's Captain crunch or something.. BUT NO! It was PERFECT to bite through. They load you up with the meat they're not stingy. And the sauces... BABY! The aïoli was fantastic. My only beef is that horseradish aioli needed a little bit more of a kick, but that's a personal problem. My friend got the chicken Caesar and I see why it's popular. It is so garlicky and delicious. I already have plans on what I'm gonna get next time I go and I don't live close so it's gonna take a special trip and I intend to make it.

Cons: While I understand the sandwich requires a strong vessel to hold the toppings, the bread was very thick and tough. The fillings did not match the bread proportion on this particular sandwich. The chicken breast was extremely overcooked and difficult to chew. Several pieces were leather-like in texture. Maybe chicken thighs would work better. I love the creativity of this sandwich and I get where they were trying to go, but the finished product was disappointing. A new line cook was being trained so perhaps this accounted for the miss. I've seen photos of the other sandwiches and they look delicious with better proportioned fillings. Not sure if I'll give it another try, but shoutout to all their fans in Church Hill.

We were surprised by the size of the restaurant when we walked in. It seems smaller from the outside; not that it was huge, just deceiving. It reminded me of a homey Jason's Deli (IYKYK). The woman at the counter was helpful and kind. We had a few questions about some items on the menu, and she asked the kitchen staff anything that she didn't know offhand. We decided on the fried cauliflower for an appetizer; it was monstrously huge, and much more flavorful than I expected. The spices and textures on the plate added a lot to the dish's overall essence. I ordered the Rachel for an entree, and my partner ordered the Sharona. I subbed the chips for a side salad. The salad was tangy or tart, almost bitter. I didn't mind; I thought it was quite good. It is a lot of acidity if you are not expecting it. The Rachel was fantastic, except that the coleslaw had some onion bits mixed in. We are not onion fans in this household. Ha The Sharona would have been a better choice, as I much prefer pickles to oniony coleslaw. My partner said she really liked hers. We had half a sandwich each for leftovers the next day, and shared the leftover chips, since I finished off my salad the night before. The sandwiches heated up exquisitely in the oven at 325°F for 15 minutes. I felt that Susie's is a definite hidden gem, and I can recommend it to anyone who likes a well-made sandwich. I will be back to sample more of the menu and report back my findings at a future date.

It's like Perly's had a kid, sent them to VCU, and they opened a restaurant…read more The cauliflower appetizer was surprisingly good. The florets stayed crispy, the whipped feta, chilies, and pomegranate made an unexpectedly pleasant combo. The Reuben was well executed. The bread retained its sturdiness instead of the normal sponge like qualities you might find with other Reubens around town. The meat was melt in your mouth tender and every bite contained components of the sandwich, rather than the usual wrestling match of sliced meat in your mouth. The service was meh. It's counter service with sit down restaurant prices. Here's the funny thing: you are given a number for food to be delivered to your table. The waitress puts the food down on your table and directs you to a rolling cart where plates, napkins, etc. are BUT the waitress has to pass the rolling cart to bring you your food. Could we have not received appetizer plates and silverware when we checked out and were handed our drinks? I don't think anyone can get excited about Jason's Deli type service at lunch at Lemaire prices. If I had to choose a good time to suggest going to Susie's, go to Happy Hour on a sunny day and sit out on the patio

Earlier in the month, I was finally able to check them out for the first time. I had my eye on their Italian hoagie, which is listed under the Cold section, but I know better at this point in time of living in the South and the many Italian hoagies that I have had to refrigerate. So I ordered it without the tomato or peppers and served cold. I ordered it through the bartender, who told me that they do serve them cold and that they were out of peppers that day. Turns out they were not out of peppers and they did not serve it cold. I can't eat peppers due to food sensitivities, so I sent it back and asked for it to be re-made. This was the bartender's mistake, from the receipt I could see that he didn't send those notes to Fat Kid, to be clear. The second rendition was made correctly, and it was definitely tasty, but they are overpriced. It's pretty obvious from my picture that this wasn't some hefty, super stuffed and loaded with meats/cheese hoagie. It looks like a normal 6" hoagie. Not worth $11 for it, in my opinion. I'd rather spend $16 at Stanley's or $10 for a full-size at Mr. Submarine.

My dining partner says there is a pool table in a back room, and that could be fun to fold into a longer visit. The piped in music was light jazz. The menu is oriented around philly cheesesteaks and variations. I ordered the chicken philly, which was large enough to make two lunches (I brought half home.) The flavor was decent, with seasoned or marinated chicken chunks and veggies & cheese on a sturdy roll. It came with a decent serving of chips. We were served a juice glass of room temp water on arrival and no drink order was taken. Negatives were related to pacing. It took a lot of time for the food to come out. We were pushed to eat even half of our sandwiches within the hour my dining partner had for lunch. The server did not check back after dropping the plates, which could have been an issue if we needed more water. And getting the check was a challenge that took way too long considering how small the place is. This is a decent place to grab a sandwich or a drink if you have the time or live in the neighborhood.
