Delicious deli restaurant with friendly service in a cool original establishment- even great coffee. Sandwiches are too big for one. Be ready to share or take home.
This is one of the most sought after dining spot in downtown Richmond, VA. On Sunday morning, we arrived at the location 10 minutes prior to opening at 9 am and there were already few people waiting outside. The staff opened the door right on time. The inside of the store was old school setup with booths and a huge full service bar. 15 minutes within opening, the restaurant was full in capacity. The menu had lots of exciting brunch dishes, appetizers, salads, soups and deli section as well. There were plenty of cocktails, beer and wines choices available too. Prices were decent. I picked the Jewish Sailor that was a combo of toast with pastrami and beef sausage with red onion and mustard. When the dish came, it looked so scrumptious. Loved the flavor of the pastrami, the crunchy sausages, crispy toast bread, coleslaw all of it. I also got to try the pierogis that were delicious as well. The service was good overall. Our waitress was attentive, while managing several tables at the same time. The dishes came out quickly despite being busy. Overall the experience lived up to the expectations.
I wish I could give them more than five stars. Perly's is hands down one of the best restaurants in Richmond and a place that I find myself recommending to everyone and to think we almost didn't stop in. If you're visiting for breakfast, The Schnorrer it's an absolute must try it's the perfect introduction to what makes pearly so special they're corned beef hash is easily the best I've ever had perfectly seasoned flavorful and cooked just right and the potato lot keys are incredible crispy on the outside tender on the inside packed with flavor Everything that we tried was delicious and of course there's no way we could eat everything so the bagels and smear we just took home and savored at another time. Whether you're just passing through or want to take a trip to Richmond just to try them definitely deserves to be added to your want to go list The service was impeccable
Had breakfast at Perly's bc we honestly mistook it for another place we had eaten at before. But it worked out bc we also enjoy Ashkenazi food. We were seated almost immediately in a booth across from the kitchen in the back. It was packed so that's always a good sign. I love that the condiments are kept on a shelf above the table. Smart placement and design! I ordered the Babka French toast topped with apples, raisins and nuts with a side of beef sausage. I'm not sure if it was challah bread or not, one of my favorite, bc it wasn't thick like I'm used to. The French toast was good, although it tasted a little stale to me. The sausage was delicious and I'm not a sausage fan. It was cooked perfectly. My husband enjoyed the Reuben with a side of Potato Latkes and a slice of pickle. The Rueben was chock full of meat and it was a true Reuben. He left with half and enjoyed it the next day. He said he'd rate it a 9 out of 10. The Potato Latkes was delicious. Cooked perfectly and flavorful. Most restaurants that have these oka hash browns are usually bland but theirs are great! I wish that I had ordered one. I had water and he had coffee. Love the mugs with a message. Overall, very good experience and food.
My sister and I came visit to Richmond for a day visit and we stopped here to get some breakfast. We got here right after 9am on a Friday and it was packed! I was surprised to see so many folks already sitting down and eating their meal. We ordered the latkes, bagel with fish - grav lox with roasted vegetable schmear, and a Reuben to share. The latkes were crispy and potatoey, loved it with the sour cream and apple sauce pairing. It added richness and sweetness to each bite. The grav lox and bagel was delicious. The salmon was light and full of flavor. We also split the Reuben and that was amazing, the sandwich came out hot and tasty. We also order a slice of chocolate babka to go. To me it was a little dry and not enough chocolate spread through the bread. Overall, great place to grab food if you're ever visiting Richmond.
Cute restaurant interior! I loved the vibes inside it felt very retro. Lots of options but not many vegetarian. It's usually pretty crowded which makes wait times expected on the weekends. The food itself was really good and came with a lot. My only issue was there weren't a ton of vegetarian options but I was able to find a few things. The breakfast sandwiches was a great size. the bagel was delicious!
There isn't much that hasn't already said about this absolutely, absurdly delicious, friendly, cozy, awesome place. Yes-the matzo ball soup absolutely lives up to legend. Yes-the corned beef and hash is so good you will eat it all and stumble out of there in a haze. You can take home a giant loaf of delicious rye. The crunchy brussels are everything you dreamed about. The rugelach are so good you won't care if devouring them in one sitting is baaaad. If you haven't visited prepare to spend some money. Buy some things to take home and enjoy later....know it won't last the day. The matzo ball soup was gone by dinner time. That broth was fabulous!!!! Prepare to eat until you are so stuffed you have two options when you leave. Go for a brisk walk.....or go home and hang out in your comfies and read and fall asleep in order to, as my Uncle Bill says, digest. I love a good breakfast and this is one of the best I have ever had. The corned beef hash is even better than that of Cafe Madison in Albany, NY in its heyday--and that says A LOT! My husband cleaned hus plate--unusual for him and a testament to the deliciousness of this meal. The cocktails are phenomenal too. The Hammeredtaschen was my favorite. The waitstaff work like a well oiled machine, fast and efficient and they have to because there is a long line out front before they even open their doors. A fantastic meal!!!!
Perly's is a MUST TRY! As an RVA native, I have loved it here for so long so I have to post a review! I love the homey atmosphere. The service and staff are so amazing and the food is TOP TIER. Highlights of my last visit include.... *The Rachel sandwich (so honored to share a name with this amazing dish) *The Jewish Sailor: amazing portion and flavor! *Duck and Potato Pierogi: tender and delicious! *Blintz: So delicious with the berries on top! I even was given some Chocolate Babka which was absolutely amazing! Prepare for a long wait on the weekend but it is so incredibly worth it. Perly's is a 10/10!
This diner is an absolute gem! Despite hitting the peak lunch rush, the staff was incredibly quick and efficient, getting our food out in time. The historic diner decor is charming, but the food is the star. The Chicken Salad was a perfect balance of flavor. I loved the customizable chicken salad plate that lets you build your own sandwich with three scoops of chicken salad, toasted bread, and fresh veggie toppings. A must-order is the side of fries (I replaced them instead of chips). They were a great balance of softness and crisp and highly flavorful. Highly recommend this spot for a quick, high-quality lunch! Prices are also very reasonable.
I ordered a bag of their coffee to go, but wasn't asked if I wanted it ground or whole bean; bag isn't marked, either! Coffee is good... but this omission wasn't.
Wow! Finally made it in for lunch a few weeks ago and the experience was wonderful. Bar staff was attentive, food was amazing. Pretty solid place. i might have to go back and try another sandwich cause i wasn't the biggest fan of the one i got. it tasted good it just wasn't what i had in mind (after seeing someone else's order i realized what i wanted was the reuben). service was great and the cranberry mimosa was yummy. it was busy but cozy inside!
Perly's was on my Richmond list and we picked up during a visit on a Friday. Around lunch so slightly busy-located downtown and street parking only didn't have any issues finding a spot right in front. We ordered sandwiches. House made Pastrami was delicious-go with the 1 lb (buy the pound) Pastrami sandwich -at least 2 if not 3 sandwiches in one. Corned Beef was also tasty and some of the best we've had. Latkas and Dill potato salad hit the spot but the Garlic Dill fries stole the show-one of a kind and not to be missed. For dessert, we saw they had Hamantaschen and got one of each-both very good with rich fruit spread topping. Service was engaged and patient (given our questions and recommendation requests) as our order was being placed. An extensive menu with everything from Beef tongue sandwich (Jewbano) to Chicken Liver as well Hot Dogs and Smoked Salmon and Whitefish. We wanted it all! Found this place through Guy's Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives TV show. It's popular among locals for sure. Before opening time, there was a line. Retro design from the 80s'. Booths and bar tables. Not sure if they take reservations. Street parking. They promoted POTATO & DUCK PIEROGIES on the show so I ordered it. Came in 3 with broth. Very flavorful and fulfilling. We also got cinnamon bagel with cream cheese, eggs and Reuben (I think). Fresh and good portion. Staff were friendly. She answered our questions patiently and she was very nice. read more

LOVE - one of my favorites in Richmond! I stopped in for a late lunch during Passover and was pleasantly surprised to see a line out the door. The matzah ball soup is absolutely delicious! And the portions are huge. I ordered a bowl of soup and ended up with 2 quarts of soup (2 meals for me) and came with matzah. They also have latkes and other favorites. The restaurant has just the right amount of quirkiness. There are lots of booths, though bar seating is available if you prefer. They do carry out but not delivery. I look at it as a nice break from work. Also, I had trouble ordering soup from the online menu, but calling the restaurant did the trick! read more
We came into Perly's and sat at the counter. We ordered the latkes, and they were crispy and salty. They were served with apple sauce and sour cream. I had the Rachel sandwich, and it was really tasty. It was a lot of food! My husband had the open face sandwich with pastrami (Jewish sailor). We really liked the decor in the restaurant. They had cute little knickknacks and colorful glass bottles. The server was very friendly and welcoming! I would recommend this restaurant. read more
Cute little Jewish restaurant. All the expected dishes with a handful of great dishes. I ordered THE SCHNORRER and picked Corned Beef as my meat!! It was great! One of my two favorite places from our trip to Richmond. Potato + Duck Pierogis: Very good, but not a must-order. The other dishes outshone the pierogis, in my opinion. Matzoh Ball Soup: Oh my gosh, this was so good. The broth was bursting with richness. Very comforting. Jewish Sailor: Enormous portion size. I split everything with my wife, and we could not finish. The hot pastrami was fantastic. Beef sausage as well. Really loved this dish. Chocolate Babka: We could not finish this for the life of us, so we took this to go. A few hours later, it was still delicious! We waited just under an hour. They won't take your phone number, so you do have to be physically present either at Perly's or at the grocery store next door. read more
We have been meaning to try Perly's and we loved it!! First I must say, our server Chanelle was excellent!! She gave great recommendations about the menu and she also took care of us very well during our time there. She was extremely attentive. Not to mention, she was extremely bubbly and positive. She makes this place look good!! The restaurant was packed. You can tell it's a super popular place in town. Even so, we were seated immediately. My husband had the schnitzel with sunny side up eggs. He enjoyed it very much. I was craving a burger, so I had the patty melt. The unique twist on this was having pastrami on it, which I wasn't sure I would like, but I loved it. It also had onions, Russian dressing, and dill pickles. I got the coleslaw on the side and it was very good. My husband ordered the potato salad with his meal which, although I like the coleslaw, I wish I would've gotten because the potato salad was out of this world. I will order the potato salad with my meal next time. It was so creamy. It didn't have a strong vinegar taste or anything like that. It was so mild and delicious. We had a wonderful experience here and we will return. read more

Reminds me of a small town diner crossed with a NYC Jewish Deli. I love both of those things. Check out the menu on here, lots of good options and great Yelpers opinions. Place is busy at lunch time as there are lots of office workers around. However I did notice lots of cocktails being slung around at lunch time. They must be good! They have hand mixed fountain sodas for that old school drugstore feel. To the meal, my mom made beef tongue all the time. They have a Jewbano (their version of the Cuban). Sandwich was solid. My three things: 1) Jewbano was 3/5 stars just because they put to much mustard on it. The bread was toasty and crunchy, meats were all great, and portion was solid! 2) Sides are a hard choice. I went with the dill fries. Didn't get much dill but they were crunchy and delicious. I wanna try the everything bagel chips next time. 3) Staff is fun, eclectic, and super nice/attentive. They alone drag this close to a 5 star. Well done! read more
Portions are huge and tasty! Had the Lottie Dottie, delish! Also the knishes are really good! The hot dog is a favorite too! The fries here are so good, crispy and perfectly seasoned! Service was great! Can get busy so be prepared to wait around lunch time. read more

What a cute place! Easily got a table for two at lunchtime on a Wednesday. Great attentive service and LOVE the restaurant. As they say, super nostalgic vibes. We ordered latkes, the patty melt, and the sub snyderman which was a roast beef sandwich. Loved the fresh, hot latkes with classic sauces and everything came out quickly. The fries were crispy wedges with fun seasoning, although it wasn't too dill-forward. I enjoyed the patty melt and the sub snyderman - patty was cooked perfectly and it was fatty goodness. I did feel like the SS was a little dry and couldn't really taste the horseradish, so it was a little bit disappointing, but it was somehow still pretty good the next day. Would definitely come back but would try some other stuff next time! read more
This was my second time at Perly's and it has become a must visit when I am in Richmond. Both time I got there before they opened so I could secure a seat (it is crazy popular). The food is traditional Jewish Diner/Deli and it is all SO tasty. Their Cinnamon Babka French Toast is incredible and I challenge pretty much anyone to actually finish it in one sitting. And this time I had the Corned Beef Hash and it was exactly what I was expecting from a Jewish Diner...so dang good! Seating is limited, especially for groups. If you are a 1 or 2 person group, take a seat at the counter to skip the line. read more
I will start this as I always do by saying that I don't give out five stars unless I am really blow away. Well I am blown away. This place was awesome! I wish I had been able to order so much more but I didn't have the time and I wasn't super hungry. But all the food that I saw looked top notch and big portions to boot. This is the kind of place that if you leave hungry it's your own damn fault The pierogis were the best I have ever had hands down and whatever that beet soup with a little sour cream was give me a little black pepper and a whole pot of that please. I got there around lunchtime and the line to get in was rather long for people waiting on the waitlist. Not sure how long the wait was cause I asked if I could sit at the counter and they let me. The waitress at the bar was helpful with my questions about the menu and she was quick to get my coffee and checked on me often. Food came out promptly and it was slamming. I had asked the waitress if the pierogis were enough to fill me and she was right when she said it is just the right amount of food to not leave hungry or be overly full. The decor was cool and felt like there was a lot of history here. It felt old school but didn't feel outdated. The old register at the front was very cool. The other patrons were friendly and I got talking with the father and daughter next to me that commented on my Deadpool riding a unicorn shirt. I decided as I paid I would buy there meal for them and sneak out. I smiled all the way to my car. It felt great! So stop in this place it should be on your list if you are anywhere near it read more

Pearly's -- you were perfectly ridiculous, and only in the best way! We had the pleasure of dining at the counter, which turned out to be half the fun. The servers are fierce--they don't just know the food, they share the history of the place with pride. Food-wise, the Jewbano stole the show. I was perfectly happy with my build my own perfect bagel bite, but I'll admit to a touch of food envy over my partner's sandwich. The mix of brisket, tongue, and that tangy relish. It was the kind of sandwich you think about long after the plate's been cleared. Whether you're craving a classic Jewish deli bite or something a little more inventive (hello, Jewbano), Pearly's gets it right. We'll definitely be back. read more

What is the wait time/wait process like? are we able to call ahead?
There are no reservations. If you want to be seated first, show up before they open. It can be super busy or just busy. The line is friendly and organized before they open and then after first seating they take names.
Can you do large orders for sandwiches ? About 50 for a memorial service in September 2022
