Had afternoon tea here with a large group of ladies from The Center at Belvedere in Charlottesville. I have to say that I was very disappointed. The quality seems to have decreased. The cucumber sandwiches were on brown bread??? The chicken salad sandwiches were bland and boring and were served on regular thick white bread. The desserts also lacked sparkle. The best were the tiny chocolate mousse tart, and the tiny rectangular fruit tart. The macrons were delicious and probably the best thing about the tea. However, the rectangular fruit tart did not have an expected glaze of apricot jam as is traditional. There were two cakes. One was chocolate, which was very fudgy and moist however, it really could have used a pinch of salt to bring its profile up to delicious. The other cake was a slice of either apple or banana??? Flavor so faint I couldn't tell. Neither of those desserts had frosting so can they really be called cake? There was a sugar cookie but I gave it to My friend so I can't speak to how it was. There was this little chocolate thing that was difficult to ascertain what it was supposed to be. I think it was supposed to represent hot chocolate with peppermint and marshmallows, but despite the peppermint and the tiny marshmallows, it was lackluster. The entire experience could have improved with printed menus with descriptions of what we had. There were two teas offered, the Jefferson and the Richmond blend. I had the Richmond blend. It was so splendid that I ordered some from their supplier. Overall, I was terribly disappointed. The beautiful venue had a slight effect on improving the overall experience. read more

They food was excellent with a wide variety of options. I stayed a 3 nights for my birthday and it was a wonderful stay. Everyone was friendly, customer service was A+++. Most importantly, my room was amazing. I chose the Grand Premier Room because I typically prefer a little extra space. It came with a seating area. However, I mostly sat in the bed since it was super comfortable and directly in front of the TV. The bathroom was huge. Definitely one of the better hotel rooms I've experienced. Yeah at $62 per person with fees it's expensive but it's a treat and you could count on decent food. This time wasn't the case. My friend got the vegetarian option and I did the regular service. Shamefully The Jefferson included a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for the vegetarian option. Come on! Be more creative! That is just downright embarrassing for The Jefferson. I got the standard service and it was fine. The ham sandwich had a whisper of ham on it. Portions were way off. After this experience I think I'll try some different places to have tea. I wish I hadn't waited so long! The tea was absolutely delicious (I had the Richmond blended and it tasted like Christmas in a cup) and our carafes were always full. We had so much food and so many varieties, it was hard to figure out where to start (our favorites were the chicken salad sandwich, the Oreo scones and the lemon cups). Our server was diligent and also hilarious. There's something so relaxing about enjoying tea with good company overlooking a beautiful rotunda. Afterwards, I took my guests to the little "museum" area so they could read the history. Stayed here as a guest of the Amex platinum fine resorts. This place is an absolute gem. Guest rooms are top notch I felt like royalty. Staff overly friendly and helpful. Finally made it to The Jefferson for Sunday brunch and it was delicious. Breakfast side favorites: potatoes, biscuits and sausage gravy, and I loved my made to order blueberry pancake. Lunch side favorites: the ribeye (well done piece) was so tender and flavorful and I enjoyed the potato and leek soup. Dessert favorites were the carrot cake and red velvet cake; making them mini was the perfect idea! Our sever Jaden described the different stations for us and recommended his favorite dishes. He checked in on us periodically and kept the champagne coming and I so so appreciate him taking pictures for us. read more

We had an overnight at the Jefferson and really enjoyed the entire experience. The entire staff were very friendly and welcoming. The hotel is stunning and incredibly maintained. We liked the security of needing a room keep to access the non-public floors. Our room was large and well appointed. It was incredibly clean and harkened back to an earlier time which we loved. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was huge with a fantastic shower. Loved that they still have turn down service and left us an alligator chocolate!! Water was provided in the rooms, but if you need more, the gym keeps a few bottles. Need refreshing Jefferson Hot Tea or Coffee? You can grab a free cup all throughout your day/stay in the gift shop. It's our go to for a quick staycation. As for Breakfast...the hostess was gone, and several waiters passed us and told us just a minute. 10 min later we left. Disgusted. Five Star experience for sure. We did brunch, too. It's amazing and actually a pretty great deal. Bread pudding was my absolute favorite and was tucked away at the dessert station so I also missed it! They even do a Royal Tea for little ones. Afternoon tea at the Jefferson is a fun way to have a formal day. We went for my birthday and had to make reservations ~4 weeks in advance. The tea itself was quite delicious, their blends made non-tea drinkers at the table enjoy tea. However, we could all agree that the quality of sandwiches did not meet our expectations for the $60 pre tip/tax. That being said, on a different day we had their brunch buffet. I must say the champagne Sunday brunch is divine and our service was always on top of things- making sure to clear plates and top off glasses of unlimited mimosas at the speed of light. This places costs $75 per person with 20% gratuity built into the check so that is $100 a person. This brunch was not a $100 a person worthy brunch. The beef at the carving station was cooked perfectly but otherwise the food was fairly standard as far as a brunch goes but I had better meals while visiting the area. The thing that bothered me was there was a male staff member on the floor who seemed to be glaring for most of the time I was there and it was really unnerving, not sure what was going on but who needs that for the price? The building was pretty but I don't think a person needs to eat at the brunch to see the inside of the hotel. I would not do it again. A staple to visit when you're in RVA, but I'm fortunate to be able to come at least once a year for a luncheon. Their service is always notable, with them quietly fluttering around and working on the catered items. Your water and tea are filled almost immediately, and your dirty plate is whisked away a few minutes after you finish eating. Their foods are all well thought out and their decor is always old classic. The only reason I dropped a star was that at the tail end of my chicken, there was some pink. Save the $65 and avoid the Chocolate Lovers Afternoon Tea for Valentine Day or any other time. I booked the Chocolate Lovers afternoon tea for Valentines Day with the expectation that this would be a memorable experience. Unfortunately, far from it. 1) The food quality was very poor (the ham biscuits could have been bought at Food Lion). Believe me we have had tea services elsewhere (Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise recently). This is not even close or even a distant 10th. 2) The service was even worse. You really need to retrain your wait staff. After an excessively long wait, my wife had to get up and walk back to the work area to get her tea refilled with hot water. There were no attempts to check in on us during the more than 2 hours we sat there. Later, when she stopped, on the way back from bathroom, to take a photo near the work area, she was rudely admonished to stay away. She had to explain we had just finished tea service and was simply looking for a few more photos to complete her album. 3) Finally, the ambiance? Not even a single rose on the table? Let alone the need for more floral arrangements on Valentines Day!! For $65/ per person, you all should be ashamed of what was presented and how. read more

An otherwise lovely stay was derailed on the back end by a thoroughly unimpressive performance from the cleaning and lost & found staffs. We left a Hatch sound machine for our small child in our room--totally our fault, of course. We were traveling very lightly in one suitcase for a short trip, so didn't have other places in our luggage it could have been hiding. My husband and I immediately realized neither of us had grabbed it once we unpacked at home. We reported this to the Jefferson promptly that same day, and after over a week of calls from us to them (and not a lot of communication from them coming back) we never got this back. We told them exactly where it was and what it looked like. Nothing. I told the most recent person I spoke to at lost and found that their cleaning staff must be stealing, if they couldn't find this. All I got was some half-assed "well maybe it was one on of their cleaning carts and they haven't checked it in yet, we'll check." They didn't. They also had unlimited mimosas, poinsettias, sparkling cider, juice, and coffees. All of the food was delicious and was well worth the price point. High tea at the Jefferson. I got the vanilla Rooibos tea which was on the sweet side. Spouse got the Jefferson blend. Similar to earl gray. We got full before we finished. Got a box to take home the top level. The chocolate covered strawberries and a few other items. It was a very relaxing experience. And they do have boxes to take home leftovers, although I expect most people would finish all of the dishes. Our parking was validated but the bar didn't go up after scanning the validated slip. The parking attendant had an issue with accepting the validated ticket saying we had to pay with charge card. After some further discussion he frustratedly opened up the bar for us to leave.
