Tried The Fancy Biscuit and overall it was a solid spot. The staff was very friendly, the music selection was great, and free street parking nearby was a nice bonus. The biscuit itself was excellent, the chicken was cooked really well-nice and crsipy, and the jam was genuinely delicious. A few things could be improved though. The table was a little sticky and could have been wiped down better. The ham in the grits felt unnecessary and the chunks were way too large. Small location but the menu packs a punch! I'll admit, I was a bit skeptical about a place called The Fancy Biscuit-how much could they truly have to offer? I was pleasantly surprised. First, the service was great. We were immediately sat with no hesitation. Our waitress was nice and the food was prompt. They have such a variety of food, coffee, non-alcoholic, and alcoholic beverages-there's something for everyone. My food was great-it definitely is a fork and knife sandwich, but the bacon was thick, the chicken was well seasoned, and the white gravy was a nice compliment. We had The Fan (scrumptious gravy) and Got Your Goat (sweet balanced with goat cheesy ) and they did not disappoint! The fried chicken is so tender and the flavors of both were incredible. Delicious and solid portions - this place is worth coming to! They have a lot of biscuit plates (and non-biscuit plates for those interested). We got the Fan, crab cake Benedict, and a side of peach jam. The portions were so generous that we reconsidered getting a plate for each of us. My mom and I decided to go on Saturday morning around 11 AM. We got lucky as there was no line and we found street parking out front pretty easily. As it is winter time, their patio was not open. Since they are famous for their biscuits, we both opted to get biscuit sandwiches. My mom got one with fried chicken, bacon cheddar cheese, & sausage, gravy; she enjoyed it. I got the fried chicken, goat cheese and pepper jelly; it was tasty, but I thought it would be spicier. We shared the grit tots which are made fresh in house and served with a Sriracha aioli. Everything we had was amazing. The service was fantastic as well. If they had been open on Monday we would have gone back. If you are in Richmond, they are definitely worthy of a visit. While sitting at the bar, I watched an employee fill a water pitcher of ice with water from a utility sink and served to a table--the same area where cleaning supplies/products and towels are nearby. This kind of sink is clearly meant for washing hands or cleaning tools, not for serving drinking water. It raised sanitation concerns for me and my date who just unknowingly drank the water before witnessing this. This is def a food safety issue and I hope management addresses this quickly and ensures staff are using designated beverage stations for water and ice. read more

With the right crisp and texture and spices. I added some butter and hot honey to the chicken biscuit (highly recommend!). It's big in size and very filling! Did my order as a pick up, bc I was worried the restaurant would be slammed on a Saturday at 11am and that there would be a long wait. As far as I could tell, if you order on their website, it redirects you to place an order thru either DoorDash or Uber eats. I did not see a way to place the order directly thru the fancy biscuit site. DoorDash gave me a wait time of about 14 minutes until the order was ready. And The Fancy Biscuit confirmed my order immediately, and it was ready quicker than expected. When I got to the restaurant, it was moderately busy. But wasn't slammed with a line of people waiting outside like I thought. The staff were very kind and friendly. And the service seems pretty quick too, they seem to crank people through pretty fast. I've had about half the menu over the past few years and my favorites are the biscuits with fried chicken. Their fried chicken is brined for 48 hours. Their gravy was too peppery for my liking. They have extremely limited seating. I'd recommend sticking to groups of 4 or less. They only have one table that could fit 5 so we were dependent on that party finishing unless we wanted to split up. There's no waiting area inside but they do have some seating to wait outside.
