The expectation was to find a dependable spot for breakfast with my dad after a crazy weekend - and this fit the bill. The Philly Omelette was a heart find on the menu that had some brilliantly caramelized onions to top it all off, and the pancakes were reliably fluffy and delicious. A little grungy on the inside but sometimes that's exactly what you want out of a diner - it felt oddly like home. Service was a bit slower for us, but was fine for the pace of morning we were having :)

The French Toast are the best!‍‍‍ The service upon walking in is ALWAYS awesome, feels like you walking into your kitchen at home on a holiday morning. The ambiance is wonderful whether you do take out or sit in.

This is a quick stop in Virginia and I want to take "City Diner" to New York! Everything was perfect, well except for the Washington Commander decorations. They have a small parking lot that we took advantage of and made our way to the diner. It has a old school vibe to it and I hope they never change. Yellow is the theme and they have classic wooden booths around. They have plenty of condiments on the table as well. The staff are extremely friendly and have a good time here. They sat us and came over for service right away. After a quick wait the food came. I wasn't expecting so much; however, our waitress did warn us. Everything that we had was delicious, even the grits (strongly recommended). I was completely convinced this place, is the original diner in America. I recommend, stopping by, if you're in Virginia.....and extremely hungry, trust me, it's a lot of food.

Visiting from out of town and felt like family the minute we walked through the door! Susie and Major could not have been more friendly. Now...the food...the BEST blueberry pancakes we've ever eaten. We tried several things... all flavorful and cooked to perfection! Such a cute interior...a real diner!

Busy busy dinner on Broad street in Richmond that actually has a parking lot so worries about street parking. Be prepared to wait unless you want to sit at the bar like we did you will most likely be seated almost immediately. We noticed they had very fast to go service as well. We ordered steak and eggs and a ham scramble. Steak was seasons with Montreal steak seasoning which is normally totally fine but it was totally covered and just a bit too salty. We also split a Belgium waffle that really hit the spot. Pricing was more than fair and we would definitely go back.

I have never been treated so badly. My wife and I arrived to the diner and let the hostess know that our daughter and granddaughter were on their way and would be there shortly and asked if we could get a table! She told us no! She said we have to wait until the entire party was there before she would seat us. Most of the table spaces were open, but we were told no. We wanted to sit and get some coffee and tea while we waited. I'm 70 and my wife is 65. They made us go stand by the cold door and said they would seat us when the rest of our party arrived and not before. I will never forget this place and I am telling everyone that this is not a friendly place. Because my wife wanted to sit at the table and wait the hostess got embarrassingly loud and told everyone in the restaurant that we were not going to be seated nor served and that we were not welcome to eat there, and that we needed to leave. What this really showed us and means is that that people of color are not welcome in this establishment. Please, stay away from this place.

They had generous portions! Fast service (we were here at 9:30 am on a Thursday). Staff was friendly and seemed to know a lot of patrons. They also have a small sparking area, which is a plus. My boyfriend and I felt welcome :)

Do they still have the Salt Herring on the menu? If they do, is it still "butterflied" and fried, or just the fillets?

Would you be able to tell me who your maple sausage link provider is? I moved to texas and miss it. I know in the past I had asked and been told it was from out of state. But I didn't commit the manufacturer to memory.

We ordered the brussel sprouts- they were great with a nice heat from the sauce. We had the crispy skin salmon, which came with a nice fresh salad, The skin was amazingly crispy and the flesh was flavorful. I asked Briana to surprise me with something good and boy did she deliver. It was their porkchop served over some super tasty mashed potatoes. Note that this is not how they are usually served, it was Briana's favorite way to eat this dish so she made the decision for me. The porkchop was very very good. The fries were crispy and the perfect side. To top it all off, I had one of their frozen drinks, and it was so refreshing--the perfect pairing with the meal. If you're looking for a casual spot with great food, generous portions, and a fun tropical atmosphere, this place is definitely worth checking out. I'll definitely be back.

The staff were polite, but we had to ask several times to get items we were missing or things we wanted extras of. They checked in on us a fair number of times, but they still forgot to return to give us what we had asked for. By the time we were ready to leave, we still haven't gotten our dressings or our condiments. I also had asked for my burger to be well done, but I got a burger with quite a bit of pink in it. I didn't want to ask for it to be placed back on the grill because I didn't really want to wait longer for my food. Although I wanted my burger to be well done and I didn't get it that way, it was still pretty good. The fries though, I think was the best part of it. The fries were perfectly seasoned and crunchy! I also ordered a coke. Just a heads up, they don't do free refills on the sodas, so each cup is $4. My party also ordered salmon l'orange and a romano salad with salmon. My friends really enjoyed their main dishes, but we did ask for extra dressing. The restaurant is decorated in a boho-style vibe, and it was cute. We found the lighting on the side dining area to be a little bit too dim once the sun went down, but I do think it would've been perfect for a date night vibe. Overall, we had an okay experience.

I am extremely disappointed with my experience at Riverside Tavern on Forest Hill Avenue…read more I ordered the grilled salmon with mashed potatoes and asparagus to go for $23.00. When I opened the container, I was shocked to find that the salmon portion was barely larger than my finger. It looked more like a sample than an entrée. I have attached photos because words alone don't adequately capture how small it was. What makes this even more frustrating is that I have ordered this exact meal before while dining in with my family, and the salmon portion I received then was easily three times larger. So this isn't a case of unrealistic expectations--I know what this dish normally looks like. I called the restaurant to express my concern, hoping they would make it right. Instead, the bartender responded with, "The portions are cut how they are cut," as if that somehow justified charging full price for such a tiny piece of fish. When I asked to speak with the owner, I was told, "You won't be talking to the owner. I'll just give him your information." There was no apology, no offer to replace the meal, no effort to address my concern--just complete indifference. If portions have been reduced, customers should be informed before paying premium prices. If this was simply an inconsistent serving, then quality control is seriously lacking. Either way, charging $23 for what amounts to a nugget of salmon is unacceptable. I used to enjoy Riverside Tavern and specifically ordered this meal because I had a good experience previously. Unfortunately, this visit--and especially the way my complaint was handled--has left me questioning whether I'll be back.

It's a very popular restaurant, so today, when we entered, while we were greeted right away, there was a 30 minute wait. There's no physical menus, instead you scan a QR code which brings you to their menu. They have lots of drink options, including several specialty cocktails, beers, and ciders. Our waiter was super sweet and attentive, and the food came out relatively quickly. For my drink, I ordered a local cider from a Virginia ciderie, as well as the It's A Wrap, which has cheddar, ranch, mixed greens, tomatoes, onions, peppers, and your choice of protein (I got tofu). I also got a side of the Mac and cheese, which I could tell was made in house. Super creamy and flavorful with a hint of spice. My wrap was also insanely good! I'm impressed by the amount of vegetarian options here. Any burger can be made both gluten free or vegan, and the choices of protein make it more accessible for everyone who comes in. This is the restaurant in the lobby of the Omni, and their room service menu has a really solid variety. Appetizers, soups and salads, sandwiches, fish, chicken, steak, seafood, other meat options, plus plenty of sides and desserts. There's something for whatever mood you're in. For my appetizer I ordered the fried green tomatoes. I'm very picky about fried green tomatoes because if they're not done right, they can be greasy and heavy. These were not. They were thick wedges of firm green tomatoes in a light batter, stacked with a spread of pimento cheese and finished with a drizzle of honey. The balance of savory and sweet worked really well, and the texture was exactly what I look for -- crisp outside, tender yet firm inside. For my entrée I chose the roasted lamb rack. It came as two double ribs over a sweet potato purée that had a subtle hint of cinnamon -- really nice flavor without being overpowering. The lamb was cooked to the right temperature, juicy and tender, with a light chimichurri and vegetables alongside. I also ordered the grilled corn succotash as a side -- corn, beans, and tomato.
