Finally marked this place off my to-visit list ! Super busy spot - which I was expecting. Took my food to-go so I can enjoy it at home. Waffle was pretty good. Super filling and tasty. You only get 1 waffle per order so if you like more- you gotta order double ! The scone was pretty good too. Had that for Brekki on a separate day. The inside was busy but calm. Not too loud or empty. The staff were friendly and they get lots of natural light inside. Might not be a repeat unless im craving a waffle again... really good spot though ! read more

I got the soulecito and a medium roast coffee. I don't really get the point of having the eggs and bacon on top but I guess there's some things in life that just are. So yeah I poured syrup over all of it and then kinda pushed the eggs to the side. Bacon was nice and thick. Love that. Honestly I'm super hungover right now and this is repairing my broken. Not far from where I'm staying is 521. Good location to a lot of places. Walking in it seemed to be holding on to the hipster aesthetic from a few years ago. No line but good reviews. So I just went with it. I got a build your own biscuit with egg and the 75¢ up charge for the sausage. Came out to $9.75 before tip. Services was fast even with someone from the back of house leaving for a cigarette. Now, the egg is fine. And the sausage is ok. But I don't like the biscuit. It has the after taste of baking powder. And the texture isnt right, it has a chew like bread than a southern biscuit. Maybe the waffles are better. But I don't think I'll go again. 2.5 stars. read more

This place is great! No much else around, but you will see people constantly coming in and out! Tiny place, easily missed. I'm going to assume the owner? Is not very friendly, doesn't smile... but we did come back the next day and she smiled a little more so maybe it was an off day. Food comes out pretty fast, great variety of options. My kid loves places that are completely gluten free. She doesn't have to be cautious. Also the absolute joy of being able to order waffles at a restaurant! Everything was phenomenal! Biscuit bread was perfect softness, not too hard. Things were seasoned well. First day there were no scones, but the next day, they had 3 flavors! Obviously we got all 3. We will for sure be back, and we are more than willing to drive further out of our way just to come back here again. read more

This is a fantastic spot if you are looking for gluten-free options! Everything on the menu is gluten-free so you're guaranteed to have a safe meal if you have a gluten intolerance. The best part is these goodies are incredible for not having gluten. When you think of sweet treats without gluten you probably assume they're dry and cardboardy, these ones are so much better than that. The waffles here are fluffy and the biscuits are still buttery. As someone who does eat gluten, do know the chocolate chip waffle can be compared to a wheaty flavor and you can still tell there is a small difference, but it's not bad. I brought my friend who has a gluten intolerance here and she was so thrilled. We both left happy and without tummy aches. I got the chocolate chip waffle and was able to eat all of it (not something I can normally do with a gluten waffle). She enjoyed her biscuit. Back in 2020, my partner and I celebrated our anniversary at the time with takeout from 521 Biscuits & Waffles and also really liked the waffles we had. In 2024, they have a good amount of seating inside. They also have a gender neutral single stall bathroom in the back. I'd recommend this spot if you can't eat gluten! Be sure to order a waffle. Everything is GF. The scones should not be missed. It can get a little busy in the mornings but we have never had an issue finding a table to enjoy our meal. Great find while visiting Richmond. My daughter and husband have celiac so any opportunity to explore a dedicated facility is a treat. Having owned a GF bakery we are a bit picky with our baked goods to say the least ;). 521 hands down is a solid 5 out of 5! The biscuit sandwich has a fluffy English muffin texture. Scones- we ordered the chocolate chip, chocolate cherry, and raspberry white choc chip. The chocolate chip was my daughters favorite but all were blended well. Not dry with the right amount of sweetness. We did not try the waffles but they seemed to be popular. Prices are a bargain in my opinion (coming from northern VA) the most expensive item on the menu is $10 that includes a huge waffle, bacon and eggs. read more

Anytime you can find a place that sells comfort breakfast food for those with Celiac or gluten intolerance, you are winning!! The biscuits are delicious. They aren't flaking and fluffy, but they are pretty light to be gluten-free, and have a great taste. The four-fruit jam was a perfect accompaniment to my biscuit. The brown sugar pecan waffle was just delicious. The young lady at the register was very helpful and kind. It's a small place, but it stays packed and I didn't have to wait long for my order. Dreadful experience. I stopped by for a late lunch, and didn't realize they were close to closing. I asked if they were still serving and if I could get a biscuit. Clerk said yes, I ordered egg biscuit and coffee. The biscuit was hard as a rock and I asked for a fresh biscuit. The next one was the same - hard and without flavor. Table was dirty, too. I wish they had told me to not order because it was almost closing time. No hours posted on the door and the sign said "open." I can mark this one off my list. read more

My husband and I are visiting Richmond from California and we decided to try this place out because I recently got diagnosed with celiac disease. California doesn't have many options for gluten free! And I must say WOW! What great food. It doesn't even taste gluten free at all! It was like eating regular waffles for the first time in months for me! I was so happy. All of their baked foods and their waffles were soo delicious! Definitely recommend trying this if you want good gluten free options! They package things in to go boxes and it's so easy to clean up after. No dishes! The place is very clean and comfortable chairs! The service was so great! Hannah who works at the front was sooo kind and helpful. She had such a happy attitude and was so helpful. I really enjoyed talking with her and she is such a joy to be around. I am a super picky person, and most gluten free foods taste terrible, but this place has nailed it! They really have mastered gluten free foods! I wish I lived here and could come every day!! As some have noted the biscuits are not the butter laden salt bombs that the corporate food biz is pushing and unbeknownst to us changing our taste preferences for the worst. That said the biscuit and scone were good, did not outshine the taste of the fillings and didn't have a raw flour taste. I had The Beaut and everything else was delicious as I would have expected. Really enjoyed the Soulecito breakfast. Nice fluffy waffle, scrambled eggs and 2 thick pieces of bacon. Orange juice was fresh squeeze and nice quality coffee. I arrived about 20 minutes before the shop opened at 8am. I was the 5th person in line and within a few minutes the line extended quite a way behind me. When it opened, we walked in an orderly manner to the counter to place our orders. Meanwhile, the folks who we deep in the line came in behind us and put down purses and backpacks and manged to reserve all of the seating space before the first person could even pick up their order. By the time I was done ordering there was no place for me to sit. I think the staff needs to be aware of this and manage people reserving seats to avoid confrontations between customers (which did occur). read more

Everything in it is gluten free - biscuits, waffles and scones Lemon Poppyseed belgian waffle was light, fluffy, and perfectly cooked. Came with four ripe black berries, butter and syrup. I put a whole packet of pepper on the egg portion and it was still bland. Nothing was terrible, it was a cute, tiny place. Don't be a jerk and take up an entire table as you dick around on your phone playing 'pokemon go' waiting for your order (as some people were doing) so be prepared to take it to go or sit outside.
