As an adult you desire a real burger. I mean I want it thick & juicy with cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion and dressed with condiments. So if I've caught your attention, head down Highway 1& enjoy the corner lot with plenty of parking. The staff was friendly and I completed my order with fresh onion rings. Came here after a cheer comp in Richmond. My daughter LOVES Whataburger (The real one) And was VERY disappointed when we got the food. She loves honey butter, and since we don't have whataburger in WV, we were looking forward to it. The fries were okay, but not salted enough. The chicken tasted like oil, and was burning hot. This place is a little gem in Richmond. After all these years they are still here. It's nothing like a good burger & breakfast. Their food is made to order. Fresh & fast every single time. Getting gas and looked for lunch and decided to try a burger at this local place @whataburgerchester is was busy with but wvetone wore masks and stayed separated . I got a Doubke Meat Burger Cheese Burger and cheese sticks. I enjoyed both. Do not expect fancy I enjoyed a back to a basic burger. read more

This place is nostalgic for my parents. This place has been here forever, and you kind of get the feeling everyone working there knows all of its customers, or at least treats them in a really familiar, kind way. It's a way to experience a restaurant. The food is very no frills, but definitely good. Griddle cheeseburgers are its main fare, but I couldn't resist adding some fried pickles to my order--glad I did! Came three days in a row. First day, my burger was cold. Didn't appear to have been freshly made. Onion rings were very nice and crunchy. Cooked all the way through. Second day, couldn't get Philly cheese steak fries...was told the frie machine was down which I didn't believe the guy. Was told they could do a Philly cheese steak sub. Tried that. Nothing like they were years ago. Barely anything on the subroll. Paid for bread basically. Third day, went back to see about them fries. No cheese on it. Barely any meat. I love all the food, burgers, and fry's are the best around , the grill guy is supper good. Can't say enough good about the food and the grill guys. it's the best for a burger spot. The down side is the bathrooms that are a total mess and very unclean, so stay away from the restrooms. It's like you need to wash your hands after such a good burger you know what I mean but the restrooms are a disaster. One of the only few What-A-Burger/Roy's Big Burger's left in Richmond. This place is an institution, plain and simple. The burgers are delicious, nice and big and cooked to order. The fries are typical diner fries, but with cheese sauce they really hit the spot. It might be because I'm a local, and because I also desperately miss the Colonial Heights location, but this place really holds a spot in my heart. Grabbing a burger here takes you back to childhood summers, bike rides, county fairs...It's a genuine slice of Americana and it's well worth a stop if you ever find yourself traveling down The Pike. This is not part of the What-A-Burger chains but it was really good. I ordered a What-A-Burger with Cheese and a side of Onion rings. I was craving a typical backyard burger and it's exactly what I received. I had expected maybe 5-6 onion rings per serving but I got a boat load! I counted 15 rings plus a few pieces. The beer batter was so crispy and they were perfectly cooked. (When I bit into them the entire onion didn't slide out of the batter.) By far the best onion rings I have had in years. read more

Not to be confused with the Whataburger chain from Texas. This is a Virginia fast food chain that offers Very similar burgers to the one from Texas. They even went to court about who should use the name. The burger was not bad more bread then meet little choices, chili was made in a crockpot, and one of the employees was using flip-flops while frying french fries. If you want to experience what eating burgers in the 1950s used to be like, then you should give this place a chance. Otherwise, do not waste your valuable time unless you live nearby read more

Worst What-a-burger ever! I ordered and paid for a double burger and got a single patty, and the people got upset at me when I pointed it out. Everything was WAY overpriced anyway...($15 for a small burger, a handful of fries, and a mostly ice cup of a little Pepsi). The only two people working there were frantically running around like headless chickens and frustrated at the customers. One actually yelled to everyone waiting for their orders that we all need to cut them some slack because it's just the two of them working, but none of us were complaining or had even said anything, just standing around quietly. I finally got my (wrong) order and after that they got so frustrated that they told everyone to leave, turned off the lights, and closed up at 12:00 right in the middle of the lunch rush.
