We decided to come to Hobnob for brunch and had been here before, so we were excited since my brother was visiting from abroad and was craving southern food. The staff was kind enough to seat us earlier than our original reservation, which was a really nice touch and much appreciated. I was also happy to see a decent number of gluten-free options. While the main dishes are a bit limited, most of the sides are gluten-free. Now for the food, the crispy chicken sandwich was the highlight of the meal. The Smashburger was also delicious. I ordered the rockfish without the bun, while my dad had it with the bun, and both were great. The beet salad was fresh and flavorful, and the fries were solid. The mac & cheese, unfortunately, was not good at all. On the plus side, the hot cider was delicious. Desserts were a bit of a mixed thoughts. The bread pudding was definitely the best one we tried and really enjoyable. However, the chocolate peanut butter pie was a big disappointment. It was extremely hard and cold (not pie texture), the peanut butter wasn't creamy at all, and it honestly tasted more like a protein bar loaded with sugar. The crust also tasted like it had been sitting in the fridge for a while--disappointing. Overall, we still enjoyed our visit and many of the dishes were great, but the dessert experience could definitely be improved.
Such a cute spot -- I absolutely loved it! The ambiance is perfect, cozy, and inviting. It's a great brunch location -- not overly crowded, but lively enough to have a good vibe. The décor is spot-on and really adds to the overall experience. The food was delicious! I had the almond croissant French toast with bacon and a blood orange mimosa -- both were amazing. The location isn't in a typical restaurant area, and I do wish it were on a main road or surrounded by more places to explore, but that doesn't take away from how charming it is. The inside is beautifully done with a relaxed, upbeat atmosphere. Definitely a brunch spot worth coming back to!
Everything was excellent. We wanted somewhere quiet and outdoors after a day of being around a madhouse pf people and this came up in my search. They seated us where we wanted and were very attentive when needed. My hubby loved the shrimp n grits and my smash burger was great. Our daughter wasn't loving the fries because she said they were skinny and over cooked but she is super picky.

An unassuming diner in the middle of a neighborhood, Hobnob knocked my socks off. I had brunch with some friends on a leisurely Sunday, and each of the guests remarked on the quality of the food, beautiful decor and friendly service. The interior features clean and modest decor with some pretty plant art on the walls. I liked the comfortable setting, well-lit with natural light. I ordered the corned beef hash, which came with freshly-made beef cubes that were juicy, tender, and well-flavored; not canned! Other plates included the breakfast plate and Chesapeake quiche, which looked remarkable. My wife said the biscuits were probably the best she ever had. I highly recommend trekking out here. Bring your friends, dates, networking buddies, and more. I can't say enough good things about this hidden gem.

Also tried the bison bolognese, very tasty as well and hearty. Not sure if the pasta is made in hose but it tasted very fresh.
We went for lunch. They shrimp and grits was really good. We also got the falafel and fried green tomatoes. The inside is small so you should probably make reservations even for lunch. The customer service was great. We will definitely be back to try their dinner menu.

What a nice evening at Hobnob! I organize a monthly dinner group and our October visit was to Hobnob. It proved to be a very popular choice. There were 12 of us for dinner. Staff was terrific and took great care of everyone. The shrimp and grits proved to be the most poplar dish at the table. We were also amazed at the portion size of the trout. I was in a mood to graze so I had the fried oysters (great!) and the prosciutto/fig jam flatbread pizza, which was a really amazing combination of flavors, especially with the peppery arugula. Great atmosphere. Look forward to dining there again!
Tiny little out of the way place, this is so cute. Small parking lot admittedly, but with inside, outside, and bar. We chose seating at the bar and the bartender was great. My friend was a bit confusing explaining her separation requires as far as the to go order, her gluten allergy, and how she wanted everything separated for the trip, but the bartender was great about it. I got the spinach omelet and she got the breakfast meal without the biscuit. I didn't get the potatoes that came with it but she mentioned how good they were so I tried them. (I don't normally like potatoes for breakfast, it's nothing against any restaurant.) The potatoes were really good, the sauce on them was delish. My omelet was amazing! I couldn't finish it all, so it went home with my friend for her chickens. She really enjoyed her bacon and eggs, and her fiance will hopefully enjoy his chicken and waffles!
Discovered this place only recently. Had a reservation on a Sunday morning. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. Outdoor seating has more seats. Indoors was great; they have cool AC for that hot day. Matthew who tended the bar also took care of us. He answered all our questions. Chicken and waffles were good. The chicken was crispy on the outside but tender in the inside. I enjoyed the pineapple upside down pancake. The sweetness was just right. The pancakes were fluffy and the pineapple was refreshing with cherries on top. Pork shoulder hash was good too. Enjoyed the food and experience here. read more
Still a solid choice and one of my favorites in Richmond. Got lunch with my mom and sister and picked a good day to eat outside. Bees and bugs were a little annoying but comes with the territory. Some fans on patio might help with that though. We ordered the chicken Cobb salad, the fish and chips and the ahi tuna plantain tostada. My mom loved her Cobb salad and my sister loved the fish and chips. I liked my order of tuna plantain tostadas for the flavor and creativity but the tuna wasn't the best cut because it had a lot of ligament in it which made it less appetizing unfortunately. Service was fast and friendly and it is handicap accessible for both inside and outside which was helpful for my mom but the chairs outside need some cushions. Parking lot fills up quick most days but there is street parking. read more
Hobnob has become a regular pick for our book club meetings because the food and vibes are consistently wonderful! This past Thursday evening, the gals and I shared a bottle of Pinot Grigio and the shrimp fried green tomatoes. For my entree, I opted for the mushroom tortellini which was phenomenal. The pesto cream sauce was velvety and delicious! Our server was attentive and fun! Definitely a great place to enjoy the patio if the weather is nice! read more

I visited Hobnob one Sunday morning and was seated immediately outside despite waiting on my friend. It was a nice day so this was a good spot. When my friend arrived, the waitress came and gave us menus and waters. We ordered pretty quickly - homemade cinnamons roll to start and breakfast platters with bacon for both of us. The cinnamon roll was solid. The icing was made of cream cheese and while it felt like too much, it went well with the bread. I didn't enjoy my breakfast platter. The potatoes were tossed in what I assume was aioli and I wasn't a fan. The first cup of fruit had a piece of hair. The waitress quickly returned with a new bowl but I was already icked. The bacon tasted over cooked. The biscuit was soft and over medium egg was cooked perfectly so I made a sandwich and used their jam. I don't remember what flavor but it wasn't grape. Anyway, I let my friend finish eating and (forcing herself to) drink her cocktail and I got the check. After taking my card, my friend found a long piece of hair in her cup. At this point I was beyond annoyed so I wanted my card to go. When the waitress returned, I informed her of the second piece of hair. She looked mortified and took the bill back. I believe our original total was $55 but we ended up paying $35. I appreciated the discount but it probably should've been free. It didn't make me feel better when the host came over and said "this happens every few weeks but it's weird it happened to you twice". I likely won't be back but understand why people like the food and price. read more

It was nice ambience. Portions were good. Shrimp on Fried green pepper is a nice try, but missed something. May be a little more tarter sauce, would be good. Seared salmon smelled too fishy, and the asparagus war too hard. The cocktail Piedmont Pirate was Ok. First it was just rum and syrup, but later they added some soda onto it. I need to try this place for one more time. read more

I love Hobnob. Brought an out-of-town friend here who was looking for something off the beaten path, and I instantly thought of Hobnob in Northside off a quiet stretch of Hermitage. Small. Intimate whether you dine on the outside patio, covered patio, or inside dining area (beautiful decor). Bangin' food. Small menu that they do very well. Excellent service. We got the brisket and pimento cheese appetizer to share, which is plentiful, delicious, and filling. I ended up taking home half of it. He got the pimento smash burger, which comes with a side (he chose fries), which he said was great. I stole a few of the skinny fries, which I love. I got the shrimp and grits, and ate every single bite. I feel like Hobnob is still a well-kept secret, even though they've been open for what... at least six years? Love love love this neighborhood gem. read more

Went with a friend for a birthday brunch and our server was unwelcoming from the start and just slow throughout our meal. But that's not why you brunch, right? Let's talk about the food. It's disappointing that menu items are often unavailable so it can feel like you're settling if you come hoping for a certain dish. The cinnamon rolls were out, so I ordered waffles, which arrived burned and tasted charred. My friend's Eggs Benedict was served lukewarm with the hollandaise gelled as if it had sat out for a bit. Beyond that, our seating was less than ideal. We had a reservation and were placed at a small middle table with another couple less than an arm's length away. That could've been manageable, but servers constantly brushed past us throughout our meal which was uncomfortable and totally ruined the experience. Hobnob had been one of my favorite local spots for years, but after my visit today, I wouldn't return again. read more
Came here for dinner and they have a lot of healthy options at a reasonable price. Salmon carrot salad - I thought it would be more like a traditional salad but didn't realize the salmon would be on a bed of carrots. The carrots were good but I just wanted more leafy greens. The salmon was okay - it didn't seem super fresh and the skin was not crispy even though it's supposed to be pan-fried. Sweet potato fries - the sweet potato fries were solid. Great spot for lunch. I dined here on a Saturday for lunch with my LS and nephew. The parking lot is next to the restaurant and it was packed when I arrived so I had to park on the street which a lot of people did. I will say the restaurant was busy and some people had reservations; we and other parties were walked in and sat almost immediately. The outdoor patio was perfect for the weather and we were lucky to be in the covered patio. Our server Brian was helpful, attentive, and patient with our questions and our little one. Everyone's food that I saw looked delicious and hearty. We ordered the shrimp fried green tomatoes and lamb meatballs to start. The shrimp fried green tomatoes were so flavorful and the tomatoes held their crunch and texture. My only complaint is that the dish was just a tad salty but I think I that may have been due to the blackened seasoning and the sauce (remoulade I believe) on the slaw/lettuce. The lamb meatballs and beet tzatziki were perfect and honestly both apps could be entrees. I had the Cobb salad and subbed for grilled chicken and removed the tomatoes & blue cheese; it was a great portion I just wish it came in a bowl or on a salad plate. My meal was fillingI'd definitely suggest this restaurant to others and would dine here again in the future. read more

I have been wanting to try Hobnob for a while. I pass it almost daily and it is always full. Today I was finally able to visit and it did not disappoint. Hobnob is a small quaint restaurant in the center of a residential neighborhood. It has ample parking and outdoor seating with no cover and covered. I door seating is quite intimate. It has a full bar and an inviting ambiance. Although we didn't have a reservation we were greeted and seated promptly. Our server Brian was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Very attentive the entire visit. The food was so flavorful and the cranberry mimosas hit the spot. We had the pimento smash burger and they were finger licking good! The pimento cheese and red onions really made the burger so good. The French fries were cooked to perfection and the strawberry salad had a great taste. All in all Hobnob is a great small local restaurant with great food, ambiance and service. Will definitely return! read more

Hobnob was such a pleasant restaurant experience. I really enjoyed my visit. My friend and I sat at the bar and received fantastic service. I opted to order the Soup du Jour, which was a tomato cauliflower, that was really simple, tasty, and flavorful. I paired it was with a side of roasted brussel sprouts which were seasoned and roasted perfectly. My friend ordered the friend chicken sandwich and loved it. The restaurant also has a great dessert menu with cheesecake, cake, and pie. Additionally, their brunch menu looks delicious. I recommend coming for a weekend brunch time or a casual date night out. The restaurant is has a bar, tables, booths, and an outdoor patio. However, it's not super big so I would suggest getting a reservation because you won't want to miss out on eating here! read more
I visited Hobnob for brunch with my Yelp bestie. We came on a Sunday right at 9am when they opened. We were able to get a seat without a reservation, but were told there was a reservation starting at 10:20am at our table. It's a cozy spot that seems to be located in a residential neighborhood. They had cute patio seating, but we opted for a booth seat inside. It's a charming little brunch spot. I ordered the pain perdu, which was french toast with peach and a side of bacon. I also ordered a side of scrambled eggs ($4) to balance my sweet breakfast choice. It was pretty yummy. I enjoyed the brioche bread and peaches. They make their bacon crunchy here. They did a good take on a brunch staple. My friend ordered the pork shoulder hash and said there were barely any potatoes in it. She had to order a side of potatoes to balance it out more. Besides this, she enjoyed the pork and really liked the biscuit. I'm happy we checked this brunch spot out. read more

We went for my pre-birthday dinner last evening and it was really great. I think there are a lot of great choices on this menu. If I had to give one side comment for an area that I would personally like improvement is simply the crabcakes. They were very good, but I'm used to Maryland crabcakes that have virtually no filler in them. These crabcakes did have a significant amount of filler in them, but still very tasty. The Keylime pie was just out of this world. I thought that I was sitting in Florida having it. The ambiance is also great. So nice on the patio. Service was great! FYI- make sure you make reservations. read more
Hobnob is a well kept secret, tucked away in a Lakeside neighborhood in Richmond, VA. There is a beautiful mural on the wall outside, lots of covered outdoor seating, a cozy bar, and smartly situated indoor seating. The service is exceptional. Ruth was so friendly and answered all of my questions about the menu offerings, history of the restaurant, and the seasonal menu schedule. I had chicken piccata with a glass of Chardonnay and the lemon basil panna cotta for dessert. Beautifully plated, delicious, and ample portion sizes. I came home with leftovers from my meal and dessert. Local dining at a table best! read more

Does the covered patio have heaters?
yes they have heaters at the top of the walls around the edges and at least one standalone heater. Recommend dressing warmly if the weather is cold bc it doesn't heat up too much, but there is no wind

Yes, they have things like chicken fingers, Mac n cheese, and applesauce for lunch and dinner. They also have a kids breakfast special! Enjoy!
