We had an incredible dinner at Acacia Midtown and can't wait to go back. To start, we had the chilled cantaloupe soup, which was refreshing and naturally sweet, while crispy prosciutto sprinkled on top added the perfect salty crunch for a beautifully balanced bite. Next, we ordered the tuna ceviche and the roasted red peppers. The ceviche was fresh, light, and full of flavor, and the roasted peppers were a great way to kick off the meal. For dinner, I had the crab pasta, and it was easily one of the best pasta dishes I've had anywhere. There was plenty of fresh crab, the pasta was cooked perfectly, and the sauce brought everything together without being too heavy. My husband ordered the chicken paillard and loved it. It was tender, well-seasoned, and cooked just right. The cocktails were fantastic, and the wine list had a lot of great choices. It's clear they put as much thought into the drinks as they do the food. The service was friendly and attentive without ever feeling rushed, and the atmosphere made it easy to relax and enjoy the evening. Acacia Midtown is a restaurant that deserves a spot at the top of your list. We left already talking about what we'll order on our next visit, and we can't wait to return. read more

This is not the place to go if you want a miscommunication to be met with passive aggressive assumptions instead of clarity and understanding. The waiter misunderstood my order, they "replated" my dish and removed a component yet still tried to charge me full price. When I addressed with the manager, she rudely asserted that she wasn't going to take it off the bill. I never requested a removal but to be charged for what I ordered and actually ate. Looking around at the staff and patrons gives me the impression that while I'm not welcome here, antiquated biases clearly are. read more

*Restaurant week review* Acacia might be my new favorite spot for Richmond Restaurant Week. This was my first time here and we really enjoyed our meal. All the food was fantastic and the portions were larger than I've experienced at other places during this event. Seafood definitely seems to be their specialty as it was all tender and seasoned well. My favorites were the fried shrimp, scallops with gnocchi, and key lime panna cotta. The service was great and the restaurant itself is bright and clean. There is limited seating so I would highly recommend making a reservation, especially because their hours are limited as well. The tables are placed close together so it was loud at times. They also have a bar and outdoor patio section. read more

The restaurant has a nice and vibrant atmosphere. I started with the Baja margarita. I would not get that again due to the overpowering orange notes in the drink, but the food definitely makes up for it. I got the crab dip which was absolutely amazing. It was served hot with large chunks of crab. I got the Crabcake sandwich with fries and both were very good. Overall, a great spot for good food and a lively dining experience. read more

I'm writing to express my disappointment with the unprofessional and dismissive treatment I received at Acacia on Monday, April 21, 2025. As a person of color and member of the LGBTQIA+ community, I was genuinely excited to support Acacia during Richmond Restaurant Week. I arrived on time for my reservation and waited until my dining companion joined me. Upon being seated, we were directed to the bar. I politely inquired if other seating was available, as the restaurant was not yet full, and we preferred a standard table for our RRW experience. The hosts were courteous and said they would check. They returned to inform us that bar seating was the only option due to RRW. I then asked to speak with a manager, and that's when the tone of the experience shifted. The person who addressed us -- later identified as owner Aline Reitzer -- abruptly stated that we had booked bar seating, rather than asking me how she could help or even introduce herself. I explained that I hadn't realized there were choices and began to show her my reservation on the Resy platform. When I acknowledged the "BAR RRWEEK" label, I also noted that the options could have been made clearer as I never saw anything else. Ms. Reitzer's response was dismissive, stating, "How much more clear would you want it to be?" She then added, "We've been completely booked up for weeks so you wouldn't have seen dinner as an option," and asked whether we wanted to sit at the bar or patio. Feeling unwelcome and disrespected by her tone and demeanor, we decided to leave. When I asked for her name and business card, she said, "I'm the owner, it's on the website--you can look it up," again with a dismissive attitude. This encounter left me feeling devalued and unwelcome. As the owner and a founding participant of Richmond Restaurant Week, Ms. Reitzer had the opportunity to respond with understanding and professionalism. Instead, her tone suggested that our presence and concerns were not worth her time. Given this experience--and after reading similar accounts from other people of color--I urge others who value respectful service and inclusive spaces to consider supporting establishments that demonstrate those values. read more

Went for RRW with husband. All dishes were delicious. Salad was dressed enough and the crunch of pear mixed with the not too funkyness of the cheese was good. The roasted pepper was very tasty, even with the goat cheese sauce around it. It was #goated to say the least lol. The lil baguettes were perfectly toasted and dippable. Loved the entrees. The fish was sooo good and flavorful, not fishy at all. Had a nice crispy edge, perfectly cooked in center. The risotto was cooked well and the peas worked in it. The grilled chicken and Mac was good too! My husband said the portions were small, but I'm used to that at this point. Anyway, the chocolate ganache dessert was yummy. All the elements made the bite perfect. Would go back to try more fish! read more

We had made reservations for the two of us for dinner. When we arrived, the hostess stated we would have to wait, as there weren't any tables available (unless we wanted to sit at the bar, which we didn't). Fortunately, the wait was only about 10 minutes. We were seated at a table near the front windows. No much of a view, but the other seating was a cramped looking line of tables with one chair and the other seat a booth-like padded seat and back. We were greeted by our waiter who was very nice. He told us about the evening specials (mushroom ravioli with scallops - which she ordered). I opted for the Market fish (rockfish) over mushroom and shrimp risotto. We decided on the baked oysters for an appetizer to share. We ordered our beverages as well. A few minutes rolled by. Beverages came out, and shortly thereafter the oysters arrived. The oysters appeared almost as an afterthought of preparation, loosely placed on a grey plate with a wedge of lime. They had an odd appearance with a sandy-like substance on top that might have supposed to have been bread crumbs (gremolata), but appeared to disintegrate with the garlic and red chili butter. They had a fairly pleasant taste, but hindered by the presentation. The lime was left unused. After a while, our main courses arrived (brought by a manager?). Her ravioli was evenly spread over the plate with a nice arrangement of halved carrots, seared scallops, and sauce. The taste was quite good overall. My fish was flakey and well prepared, but seated atop a mound of underdone risotto that was certainly lacking any kind of mushroom flavor. I think I was able to count 2 small pieces of shrimp as well. Not very impressive. We opted against any dessert and asked for the check. I handed my debit card to the waiter and he returned with the check and thanked us for dining. I was prepared to write in the tip when I noticed there was a "Service Fee" of 18% that pre-calculated. I was a bit confused as this wasn't something I was expecting. I typically tip 20% or more on average. I signed the check and we left. Later, I saw on their website that there is an acknowledgement of the 18% fee for each party, regardless of the number of people. They cite this as being able to have their staff make a "living wage." I agree wholeheartedly that people should make a living wage, but being forced to pay seems a bit much, especially when this wasn't mentioned at time of payment. That might have made things a bit clearer. read more

Had a wonderful dinner several weeks ago. The scallop special was excellent and the cocktails were amazing. Loved that the owner visited with many of the tables and shared the history of the restaurant. I will be back!! If you like seafood, give it a try for sure.. read more

Went for Richmond Restaurant Week with friends. It was easy to make reservations online through RESY. The restaurant is gorgeous giving a very fresh clean aesthetic. I would suggest dressing up a little to match the vibe. Our table wasn't quite ready when we got there so we grabbed drinks at the bar. My favorite drink has both gin and whiskey. I was a little nervous considering the combination but it was delicious. The food was good as well. I got the seared tuna with cucumber and chili paste. The cucumber was the perfect accompaniment to the tuna. I had the veal dish which was ok. The panna cotta was tart and the passionfruit pearls gave it the perfect amount of sweetness. This is a great place for a date night. I would go back and try the crabcake which I hear is delicious! read more

I went here with my co worker for restaurant week. The restaurant is very nice and in a great spot with plenty of parking available. I was a little apprehensive of coming here because I hear that the staff aren't too friendly. Luckily the waitress was extremely nice but it did feel like other staff members were a little tense. Other than that, the crab cake was so amazing! Plenty of crab in it as well. I had the panna cotta for dessert and it was good but I tried my friend's chocolate mousse and I fell in love! If you love a rich chocolate I would suggest getting that if you have room for dessert. It is a little more of a fancier vibe so I would suggest getting a little dressy nothing too crazy. read more

We had an amazing experience at Acacia Midtown. The restaurant is very clean and open...you can see directly into the kitchen. They offer tap or sparkling water with the meal...a very rare occurrence in Richmond and a nice touch. We ordered the crab cake and a grilled fish sandwich. My friends and I visited this beautiful restaurant for Richmond Restaurant Week 2023 last night. They created a $35.23 three course menu for this event. I'm so happy we visited because we got to sample some of the best that Acacia has to offer. We got a reservation for 8:30pm. It was packed! Service was as quick as it could be during a busy night. The people who work here are incredibly nice and professional. Our waitress was extra sweet. Here is what we tried: Tuna Ceviche: My partner and I both chose this as our first course. We adored how simple and delicious this dish was. The dried onions on top were extra yummy. The tuna was fresh and the avocado complimented it well. It's not as limey as I'm used to in ceviches, but still very yummy. I'd recommend this dish. Fried Shrimp: Our friend ordered this and he liked the shrimp and mayo, but was left wishing there was more of a kick in the coleslaw. Scallops: My partner ordered this and was obsessed with it. He said it was cooked to perfection and loved the flavors. Crabcakes: I ordered this and thought my second course was the best of the three we got. The mashed potatoes were a little too salty for my taste, but still yummy and the kale was a great side too. I appreciated the big pieces of crab in these crab cakes. Lobster roll: This fell a bit flat for my friend. The lobster itself was great, but beyond that it didn't have as much flavor as he had hoped. Dark Chocolate Ganache Tart: My friend and I both ordered this as our dessert and loved it. I adored the rich dark chocolate flavor. My friend didn't lick his plate, but they way he scraped it with his spoon was pretty much the same thing. Key Lime Panna Cotta: My boyfriend adored this and I loved the bite I got too. Sherry Spritz: I paid extra to add a cocktail to my meal. It had a nice flavor kick that my friend really liked. I enjoyed sipping it throughout my meal. They included an 18% tip which I found to be nice for the waitstaff. I paid about $60 for my drink and RRW courses. I appreciated the gender neutral bathroom here. The interior design is beautiful. They also have cute things for sale out front. There was a lot of free and easy parking out front too. We had a good time trying this restaurant. read more

Went during restaurant week. Excellent selections on the 3 course menu. Everything we had was excellent. Service was attentive.

They are still in their pre-opening phase with special pop-ups each week, but I am already impressed and super happy to have them in Libbie Mill! The ambiance is great with minimalistic coastal/nautical vibes. The design work was top tier with a stunning blue under the bar and huge windows that allow for stunning views at sunset. They have a coat room to the right of the host stand also, which is a very nice touch. I attended for their two-course $45pp event last week. It was exciting to score a res since they sell out so quickly. We were part of the 6 pm seating and were brought to the half booth at the edge of the row. The tables were really close together, so it ended up being a community table essentially with the two tables of friendly patrons next to us. I had the truffle ceasar salad to start, which arrived with a heaping portion of prosciutto on it. The salad was quite tasty and rather filling. I ended up having to box half my entree, the mahi sandwich. The mahi was cooked well and the fries with it were nice and crispy. I did try a bite of the famed crab cake even though I'm not a big crab person, and I will say I enjoyed it! I also had the chocolate ganache (decadent!) and their bubbly and rose wines. I liked the rose more. Our server was fantastic too. She refilled our waters before I could even think to, and the pace of the meal was perfect. I'm sure I'll be back soon, and I'm happy to see they're off to a great start in the neighborhood! read more

A step above most area restaurants (IMO). Brought my visiting family, enjoyed the experience entirely.

This was our 3rd time at Acacia, but first time at this location. Nice decor. Average food. Overpriced for the experience. Host sat us at a table right next to his desk. We were separated by a few books and zero elbow room at a rather uncomfortable table they jokingly call their "library table". Awful. Skip the baguette. I expected an out-of-the-oven experience. Felt more like yesterday's baguette from Wegmans. Skip the cheese plate. The goat cheese and beet salad was good. They have 2 pasta dishes on the menu and we tried them both (skip those as well). Dinner for 2 with tip ran about $200. It's really a 2-star review, but bumping up to 3 in case our experience was out of the norm. Either way, there are so many other restaurants for a better dining experience at this price point, so we likely won't be back. read more

My husband and I went for an early dinner before a show at Altria. We loved our experience and will be back. He ordered the crab pasta and I ordered the scallops with gnocchi for our entrees in addition to cocktails and salads. Everything was delicious. It was great to finally try the newest location. I used to work in Carytown, so always loved their original restaurant back in the day as well as their second, but we hadn't visited the revived Acacia until now. What a great restaurant to celebrate good times (and a birthday)! Every time we dine here, the experience has been pleasant. The menu is not overwhelming. The food is fresh and delicious, the plates are a feast for the eyes too!! Service was great. Our server was knowledgeable and very attentive, without being interrupting. The restaurant had great ambience. The lighting was just right and noise levels were average- everyone chatting and having a good time. It is a pricey restaurant, but it is worth the experience. We were excited to try this place but immediately regretted walking in. It was 11:30 am and one table was filled but we were asked if we had a reservation...seriously. Rude staff stuck us in a small corner table and proceeded to ignore us. After waiting we were given water and our order taken. When 2 men walked in they were taken to a large table and were treated very different. The entire "vibe" today was condescending and an unappealing look for what is suppose to be a decent restaurant. The food was okay but not great. The overall experience was negative. Disappointing. read more

It is still a fabulous restaurant. Our server was very good. Had a great smile. I got the lobster roll. It had lots of good pieces of lobster. Yes I had leftovers. I also got the Caesar salad which was out of this world with truffle oil. Spouse got the hanger steak. He too had left overs. Had to leave room for dessert. We got the key lime dessert. It was great as well As we were leaving we noticed they had refrigerated food to purchase. So we got some crackers and cheese for snacks at home. read more

We arrived at 6:15 on a Friday, only one other guest-that should have been a clue. The waitress was outstanding, she was pleasant and attentive. Good thing since there is an automatic 18% tip. I sure hope the staff get the tip. The red pepper soup and the baguette are delicious. That's the end of the good part. Be aware happy hour discounts are only in the bar area...silly right? Wine list is disappointing, have YOU ever heard of a wine called Midtown, talk about hubris! The food was ok but the whole experience deteriorated into a ruined evening when some frazzled woman plopped down at our table and said I wanted to speak her. Um noooo She got annoyed with me for not wanting to speak to her...??? But I get ahead of myself. The music is much too loud, the few other guests who arrived shouted to be heard, it's crazy. The crab cake dinner for $36.00 is ok, I guess you can't expect good seafood at a strip mall restaurant. The potato wedges were tasty, all four of them, however kale should remain a garnish, not a side dish and loading it with salt doesn't help matters, nothing makes kale easy to eat. Try spinach or a real vegetable as a side Eileen. We ordered dessert, dad ordered cheesecake with cherries for $14 There were two. Cherries that is, 2 cherries. This ain't Juniors cheesecake for sure, theirs is cheaper too. I ordered the seasonal dessert, passion fruit tart. What I received was an orange dream whip pie that was over cooked turning the ingredients bitter and unpalatable. So back to the fizzy haired lady plunking down at our table... When I confirmed with the lovely waitress that I had indeed ordered a tart and this pumpkin pie wanna be was the result, she told the "Chef" (apologies to my culinary friends that Eileen titles herself as such) who turns out to be the owner. The same person who serves meals with her fingers stuck in the bowl. Good thing it's only half a bowl of soup or she would have burned her fingers. Once I understood that this unhappy person was the owner Eileen, I told her the soup and bread were great but that I had not been served a tart but a pie. She shrugged her shoulders and said "oh well we're not for everyone. She walked away , returned and Slapped the check into the table(I'm not exaggerating) I was chatting with the diner next to me, Eileen leaned in and offered to move the guest away from to me!! He declined, when she walked away he laughed at her audacity and we continued chatting. In summary if you want a delicious $8 baguette this is the place to go. It's like a high end Panera. If you want crab cakes, Krogers had some in the freezer section from Maryland that won't include hair from a miserable cranky venture capitalist who is too self-centered to to wear her hair pulled back when serving food. read more

Love Acacia, but there are two disadvantages 1) if you are a table for 2 , the tables are too close together! I don't want to hear the conversation of someone I don't know! 2) CHECK YOUR BILL... THERE Is AN 18% SERVICE CHARGE automatically added to your bill!!! They should tell you gratuity is added even if it is a bill for 2 people. **4.25 First time dining here since their opening. The space was open with high ceilings and very clean. We were greeted and seated right away for our reservation. Staff was friendly and VERY attentive. Every course was beautifully plated and delicious. If I had one request it would be that their beer options offer more of a craft centric selection, local perhaps. Have a few local IPAs and lagers, maybe a seasonal selection. I love cocktails and wine but also a good local craft beer to brink it full circle. I'm more of a quality over quantity guy. Tonight was a solid 4+ so rounding up. I love going to Acacia during the week, quiet, wonderful vodka martini (a wonderfully simple vodka martini is becoming an art these days), rockfish special, fun bottle of cotes du rhone (great value wine at $42), delicious bolognese, and my staple - the crab pasta. Great service, the owner frequently/quietly surveying the scene and always available for a wine recommendation or need, it's just a great Richmond staple. It gets loud when it's busy so thankful for a quiet evening but would like to see a few more locals here, great restaurant. read more

Wow, how did we not hear about this place until Richmond Restaurant Week? It is a fabulous place to dine and relax. We were seated as soon as we arrived. We chose to dine indoors but there is a nice patio for those who prefer to dine outdoors. The ambience is sophisticated and gives off a cool, coastal vibe. Our waiter was attentive and cordial. For appetizers, we enjoyed the seared tuna with seaweed cucumber salad and the herb goat cheese, with oven roasted pepper, confit garlic & shallot, balsamic reduction served with grilled bread. Both were savory and palate pleasing. For dinner, we chose the lump crabcake with fingerling potatoes, green beans in a lemon butter sauce and the trout with risotto, English peas, and leeks in a sun dried tomato sauce. The meals were beautifully plated. The flavors came alive with every bite. For dessert, we enjoyed the chocolate nemesis with strawberries and vanilla whip cream and the key lime panda cotta with passionfruit pearls and coconut passionfruit cream. Awe, the perfect way to end our meal. Acacia Mid-Town is exceptional and promises a unique and quality dining experience. Loved it! read more

We visited during the 2025 Fall Richmond Restaurant Week in October. The food was, as usual, fabulous! The menu offered great choices for appetizers, entrees and desert. We particularly enjoyed our ceviche and salmon tartare appetizers. Now, then, you might reasonably ask why the 3 star review? That's because of the way we were treated, particularly by a person described to us as the manager. Let me set the context. We know Restaurant Week is a gift to everyone who dines and to the Food Bank that gets a portion of the proceeds. We also know that means quicker table turnover to preserve some profit for the restaurant. We arrived on time for our 6:30 reservation and were seated 10 minutes after arrival at 6:40. When seated, the server advised us that she must take our dinner order all at once and that the kitchen would control the timing of the service. She then asked if we wanted a cocktail. We said yes, and ordered. She then came back and asked for our dinner orders before our cocktails were served. I said that we were ready to give her our orders, but asked her please not to put them into the kitchen until after our cocktails had arrived at our table. We wanted to have some time to enjoy them before our food started arriving. She seemed to assent. Nonetheless, our cocktails had barely been set down at our table, when the appetizers arrived (obviously, the order had been submitted without any wait). I reminded the server that we had asked for a delay in placing the order and asked her to take the appetizers back so that we could have a minute or two to enjoy the cocktails she had encouraged us to order. She left saying she'd have to get the manager. The manager came to our table and asked rather tersely "what's the problem?" I explained what we had asked of the server, and she pushed back about the kitchen being efficient, and I explained again that's why we had asked our server not to put the order in right away, and she said, again, in a not very nice tone, "well, I'll give you five minutes." Then, as she was walking away, she threw back at us in a condescending tone something like, "you know we have this table reserved again." In exactly five minutes, our appetizers reappeared and the rest of the dinner followed quickly after that. As soon as a plate was picked up, the next course was served. No offer of coffee with desert or an after dinner drink at the end of the meal, and, frankly, we didn't feel comfortable asking. Having been seated at 6:40, we were out of the restaurant and home (after a 12 minute drive) at 7:45. So 53 minutes elapsed from the time we were seated to when we left the restaurant, including our grudgingly allowed 5 minutes to enjoy our cocktails. Acacia's website says this about service expectations: "The average dining experience ranges from 90 minutes for smaller groups to up to 2 hours for larger parties. Please contact us if you are interested in an extended experience." If, as would be understandable, expectations should be adjusted for Restaurant Week, some notice should be given to customers. Even if shortened to 60 minutes, however, that would allow for a couple out on date night to enjoy their cocktails for five minutes before being served their meals without being made to feel like that would be a major imposition. Instead, we felt like we were getting the "bums rush" just because we asked for a couple of minutes to get "into" our night out. Not an experience I'd seek to repeat anytime soon. read more

Ah the highly anticipated Acacia. I wanted to rate you higher but I cannot until I know for sure that the way my fish was prepared was indeed correct. I ordered the whole roasted branzino while my friend ordered the fish tacos. The presentation of my fish was lovely **from the outside. Great fresh flavors and loved the roasted veggies but from the inside? Questionable. I noticed something was bleeding onto the fleshy part of the meat. As I made my way up I found the cause, and it was bright fresh blood not dried blood btw. It made me uncomfortable so I asked my waitress about it who went to get the manager who laughed and told me it's fine it's just the blood vessel and that the fleshy part was cooked (which is not really what you want to hear in "fine" dining). I've cooked a whole fish plenty and ordered it out before but I never had something actively bleed out?! I decided to stop eating which was unfortunate as it cost me a nice $40. Yup, they didn't offer to cook it more, offer a diff meal, nor refund. Handled poorly honestly. So tell me from the pictures.. is this normal ? (The quality of the pic will appear much darker bc of Yelp) I also posted on social media to get feedback.. will post results here. Anyways, the drinks were good and the service was okay.. the waitress while sweet didn't introduce herself or ask us if we had questions xyz just walked up and asked if we were ready. And with this being our first experience at Acacia we definitely had questions. Idk how to feel... **Update** the manager I mentioned above, turns out .. she's actually the owner :/ I would have expected the situation to be handled a lot better than it was. So with this new knowledge, I don't feel I need to return to "give them another shot". Y'all can have it! read more

I was so absolutely sad when Acacia in the city closed, but was so excited to hear they were coming back! Acacia Midtown is in the same shopping area as Shagbark. My husband and I haven't been here in awhile, seems like it totally expanded since the last time we were here. At any rate the building is super modern and chic. It's warm and inviting slightly different with the Acacia that was downtown, downtown was always pretty dark... and lighting was subdued. I think this may be one of the last weekends before they open, we got to pick from their a la carte menu vs. the pop up menu they have been serving the last few weeks. The space is open seemed like they had a section for meal service and some high top tables for bar service potentially. Our reservation was 5:45pm, there was a larger table (4-5) and a two seater that was taken in the entire restaurant. All the other tables were empty. It was odd when the hostess took us to the two seater that was right next to the other two seater (literally we felt like we were on top of them given the barren restaurant, if the restaurant was packed I wouldn't care). We requested for another table, but we were declined because she said they are booked out (odd because we saw someone while we were eating got seated in the 5-6 person table and then they somehow were able to move, I'll be honest that totally left a bad taste in our mouth considering there were plenty of two seated tables left by the time we left, the restaurant was no more than half full. Funny, because another couple came in maybe 15 min after us and they didn't sit them right next to us they skipped a spot, which is in essence what we asked for but did not get. If it was based on this experience itself this review would've been a one star, but because the meal was as good as I remembered it being when Acacia was in the city I gave it a four even though it should've been a 5. They didn't have their cocktail menu ready, so we were both sad, ended up with the Midtown Red. Started off the meal with Crispy Oysters. They were so good, it was lightly and crisply battered topped on a bed of light light Cole Slaw (more lime based than Mayo) with Spicy Mayo, we asked for the Mayo on the side, since my husband doesn't love Mayo, but the dish was delish. We probably could've had an appetizer of that each LOL. For entrees my husband got the scallops dish and I got the crab cake dish. Scallops came with five fairly large scallops cooked to perfection on top of a bed of cauliflower purée and vegetables, so good (made me have visions of the city's Acacia Gnocchi and Scallops dish one of my faves ). I got the crab cake, I would say I usually get two crab cakes if I ever end up ordering them, but one along with all the zucchini, tomato, caper, potato mix with the basil herb emulsion (so tasty) was just the right amount of food. Crab cake minimal filler if any, and so fresh, you can tell. It is inspiring me to try to make a non filler crab cake for Valentine's Day in a couple days. I feel like I've had their crab cake before at the old Acacia and loved it, so delicious. We decided to skip dessert and get a cocktail at Shagbark before we headed to Altria to see The Book of Mormon. Other than our seating issue I'm excited to come back when they are officially open and have a full bar for cocktails! Thank you Acacia for coming back, excited to have you all as a dinner option again :) read more

We had a wonderful dinner last week! Our party of 8 all left very happy. We had the crab app with a baguette to start. It was a great combination. Most of our table had the scallops and they said it was cooked perfectly. Also ordered were the Pork Schnitzel, pasta bolognese and lobster roll plus a cheeseburger because my dad insists on getting one no matter where we go. I really enjoyed the fish tacos and wished I had asked if I could have added another. But that just left room for dessert and the cheesecake was delicious. Our waitress was attentive despite the busy restaurant and made a special celebration that much better. We'll be back to try other dishes. And I may swing back up there to get a take and bake crab cake mix. read more

Went in tonight for an anniversary dinner. We were greeted at the host station by someone other than the normal hostess. As a note, it's probably not a good idea to have a very cold person giving customers their first impression of the restaurant. After having a couple of pre dinner drinks at the bar (very nice service here), we were given our table for dinner. Our server was equally as cold as the "hostess" was when we walked in. We ordered two apps (fried green tomatoes and the bone marrow plate)and some bread, a salad, the scallop dinner, and the wagyu double cheeseburger. The tomato app was good but needed salt and the bone marrow tasted great, after it also was salted. The bread was...$8 crusty bread. The scallops were great, easily the best dish of the night; half of a scallop, combined with a piece of the accompanying gnocchi and a bit of the spinach was the perfect bite. The wagyu double cheeseburger was slightly over cooked and over seasoned, but enjoyable nonetheless. The restaurant is very sterile; nothing in the walls but light blueish paint to mimic the blue tiles at the bar area. Spacing between the seating (for all the two tops) is nonexistent, just wide enough for the server to squeeze between two tables. Thankfully, due to our seat position, we didn't have our server's backside facing us. Upon receiving the check, I noticed the "service charge" of 18% added to our bill. I asked our server if it was normal to autograt a two top and she replied "it is added to the bill as we are paid a higher wage than normal servers." I then asked if she made more than the typical ~$2.13 an hour most servers make and she said yes. I further asked if she found it beneficial or not to have everyone autograted and she didn't really answer. My wife then asked if she got to keep any of that "service charge" and she said no and added if we tipped above that, she would the get to keep the additional. I wonder how many folks have double tipped, not actually knowing they were doing so? One the one hand, it's nice to see a restaurant pay a higher wage to their servers. On the other though, it seems pretty scummy to not let your guests be aware of the "service charge" gotcha until the check arrives and then have the server hope the guest just inadvertently double tips. All this just so the restaurant can pay their servers a higher hourly wage. Acacia Midtown is not a bad place to eat as long as you are aware of a few thing before going in... read more

Beautiful lunch. We arrived late but everyone was pleasant. I had the potato soup and grilled chicken BLT. my wife had the fish tacos. Our server was friendly and helpful, the food was awesome. read more

I was really hoping to love Acacia Mid-Town. It had come highly recommended to us based on a friend's experience at their other location. Acacia has been in its new location for a few months, but they don't seem to have gotten the "Kinks out". Be warned, if you are a couple going out for a romantic dinner, or are looking to have a conversation without others listening in on your conversation (Or being exposed to other people's conversations) this might not be your best choice. The tables that seat two people are only a few inches apart. When we saw that a server could barely fit between the tables and his bottom was directly in the face of the people at the adjoining table behind him, we became concerned. The people who were sitting at that table who would be right next to us looked distressed about the close proximity as well. We had an early reservation, and the restaurant was about 20% full. We thought that it was odd that the hostess was sitting us directly next to another full table when the rest of the line of "two seaters" was completely empty, We asked the hostess if there was another table. She told us that "No one had ever complained about how close the tables were" and they were completely booked, so there was no other choice. It's kind of funny, because this morning as I read through other reviews, I saw on this and other sites that people had mentioned that the tables are too close together. Also, by the time we left an hour later, most of the tables were still empty. Anyway, we asked if we could sit at the bar or at the high tops in the bar area, and the hostess accommodated us. Our server did a good job. Wine by the glass options are slim, but she made a good suggestion for a glass of white wine for me. She was professional and attentive, and the food all came out promptly and at the right temperature. I ordered the lobster roll and a Caesar salad, and my husband ordered a mahi fish sandwich with a Caesar salad. We also ordered half a dozen oysters and we each had dessert. There was nothing extra special about any of the dishes that we ordered. The dishes were tasty, but we were very surprised about the presentation. Our dinners were served on small trays, and the food looked like it had been scooped directly onto the tray from a serving line (Cafeteria style). The napkins on the table were thin paper napkins. The mahi sandwich looked like a sandwich that you would have gotten at a beach bar, especially since it was sitting right on the tray with the salad plated right onto the tray as well. Someone had thought about putting peppermint leaf garnish on top of the desserts which helped with the presentation a little bit, but it felt very "assembly line". The cheesecake looked like it had been scooped out of a dish with an ice cream scooper. It looked mushy. However, the cheesecake was tasty, and was probably one of the best things that we ate there. The building is very clean, and attractive. When you come into the lobby, it's a little confusing, because there was a planter right in the doorway, so it kind of looks like you are coming into the back entrance of the restaurant. Taking out a table or two in the line of "tables for two" and investing in linen service would be an easy fix to help with the ambience. Or, at the very least, train the hosting staff to seat people more strategically . Closer attention to the presentation of the food would make a big difference as well. We eat out a lot. I don't write a lot of reviews. And for the most part, I only write a review if something was really fabulous or really terrible. To be clear, this is not the worst dining experience that I have ever had. I just thought that a review needed to be written because people should know that it's just kind of so-so if you are looking to get dressed up a little bit and go out for fine dining or a romantic couples evening, especially considering the price point. There are much better options in Richmond. read more

Not as good this last time. Service was odd. Kept asking for water and seeing all the water hogs go by but we got ignored. It was very odd. And asked for bread multiple Times. Finally when they brought me 4 little slices of average white bread they said it's $8. Ok fine I'm hungry give me the damn bread. That pissed us all off. read more
