West Coast Provisions is one of those places you end up returning to again and again, and for good reason. We went during Restaurant Week, so it was packed, but completely worth it. Even with the crowd, the experience never felt rushed or chaotic. That says a lot about how well they run things. We started with the calamari, crab miso soup, octopus, crispy tuna roll, and tuna tacos. Everything was excellent. The octopus was especially well done, tender with great flavor, and the tuna dishes were fresh and perfectly balanced. The crab miso soup was a standout and not something you see everywhere, which made it even better. Service is always strong here, but this night really stood out. Attentive, polished, and genuinely welcoming without being over the top. The restaurant itself is just a lovely space. It feels like a place you can settle into, whether it is a special night out or just a casual dinner close to home. We are lucky to have this as a neighborhood spot. Decided to try West Coast Provisions for Restaurant Week - and I'm so glad we did! The restaurant is beautiful and modern. And everyone was professional and lovely. Now the food - Chef's Kiss! We started with the mussels and oysters - which were so delicious we scarfed them down before I could take a picture. We then enjoyed the salmon and lobster risotto - which were extraordinary! I don't know what is going on at West Coast Provisions, but the food they're turning out at lunch is not good and is overpriced. My husband and I were out and about on Labor Day and decided to have lunch. We decided on seafood and ended up at West Coast Provisions. I've eaten there quite a bit so I know how good the food can be but this trip was a disappointment. We had grilled oysters...always good and salt air margaritas. For entrees, I ordered the blackened mahi tacos, which was dry and frankly bland for a blackened fish. The shells were super hard on the edges like it had been sitting under the heat lamp too long. And the tacos didn't come with a side. My husband had the yellowtail with hibiscus. I didn't like it and my husband didn't care for it but he ate it rather than wasting the food. He also For a spicy tuna roll which he described as okay. We had a great server, which was the saving grace. I'd honestly put this restaurant at the bottom of my list for seafood. My grouper sandwich was massive and delicious, and the pineapple on top was such a perfect hint of sweetness to the fried food. The side salad was not that good. I'd get fries next time. My fiancé and I got 2 lunch entrees and a cup of soup each, no drinks, and our bill was about $60 with tip. A little pricey for lunch, but not bad. Enjoyed an early dinner/snack at West Coast this weekend and really liked our time there. The service was great - our server was so friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. We ordered an array of cocktails and mocktails (which were delish), along with a few sushi rolls, a burger, oysters, and some apps. The sushi rolls were pretty standard, but still good. We had truffle fries (okay), edamame with a great sweet chili sauce, and a crab dish. I really am torn on this review. I would give 3.5 stars, but rounded down this time bc of the disappointments. The restaurant is very pretty and clean, but SUPER loud! We were a large party and I had a difficult time even hearing the person next to me. Definitely not an intimate place, nor a large party place when it comes to atmosphere. I want to acknowledge the bar menu has cocktails, which were appreciated! The lavender lemonade cocktail was delicious and refreshing! All of the cocktails were good as well. The food was good for the most part. We started with the seafood plate. I had never had raw clams before and they were actually really tasty. The oysters and shrimp were large and seemed quite fresh. The charcuterie plate was also quite good. The bread was actually the surprise, especially the butter served with it! So very good. We tried all sorts of meals. The curry wasn't quite curry, but wasn't bad. Just not what was expected. The cioppino had a delicious broth! Though some of the fish and seafood was overcooked. Those who had the mahi said it was very good. The scallops were beautiful and tasty, though the person who ate them said the pickled peaches were a tad strange. Overall it seemed those who got simply prepared fish were the most pleased. They did a great job of having all the food out to the table at the same time, which is a feat for a large party. The dessert menu is limited, but the lava cake and mint chip ice cream was quite tasty, even if there wanted actually lava to ooze when the cake was cut into. The service is where it really falls down. As I mentioned, we were a large party (12), and we had one junior server. When he arrived he did not introduce himself, no big deal, but a miss. He did not check in on us frequently and our plates and empty appetizer serving dishes, empty glasses, etc were not cleared regularly. This is a problem with a large party. When the wine was delivered to the table it wasn't opened for us, luckily it was twist top so we didn't have to wait for a corkscrew, but it has been a very very long time since I had wine not poured in a restaurant....maybe this is the first time I have experienced this actually. On the positive, nobody's orders were inaccurate. As mentioned. I was torn on the star rating, but ultimately for the price I expect a bit more in the service department. I might go back if someone asks me, but I won't be suggesting this as a starting place when selecting restaurants. read more

Last week we dined at West Coast and I unfortunately had the most underwhelming meal. I had the Shrimp pasta which arrived with 4 shrimp and literally the smallest portion of pasta (3 bites only) I have ever experienced. This along with the presentation of the meal was without question - one of their biggest failings. What made the experience worse was when management first attempted to defend the obvious lack of pasta with a comment that they "weight the pasta" and this portion was normal. I was dumb founded by her explanation given the cost of pasta is minuscule compared to a beef meal. I ask her to look at the presentation which clearly looked like either they ran out of pasta or they attempted to stretch the amount with another plate - FAILED on all accounts. Very concerning and underwhelming meal by an establishment that should have better quality control measures to ensure the standard is upheld by the staff before it is delivered to their customers. I hope this does not occur to anyone else but beware of the "we weigh" pasta comment and choose another entrees. read more

Had dinner here the other night with my ladies dinner group. I had never been here before so I was looking forward to giving it a try. I saw a number of interesting things on the menu. My husband and I came here for Valentine's Day dinner. We ordered the mussels as our appetizer, they were just okay. For our entrees we both got the whole branzino. The fish was delicious! It had great flavor and didn't need any additional seasoning. I do wish that they weren't stuffed with limes as baked limes do give a slightly bitter flavor, but they didn't impact the flavor too much. The aligot potatoes were definitely the superior side. Creamy and cheesy without the Swiss cheese being too overpowering. Loved them! We also had the Berry Mule and an amaretto sour for drinks. Both were also delicious. Had a great lunch here this week! It was really quiet in the restaurant, there were only a few people there, but my meal was absolutely delicious. I ordered the arugula salad with grilled chicken. The chicken was actually perfectly cooked, wasn't dry at all, and the salad itself was fantastic! It had edamame, sunchoke chips, oranges, and a delicious miso maple vinaigrette. Really well balanced :) only taking off one star: we had ordered a few other things that were forgotten about and our waiter was constantly checking in (I hope this doesn't come across the wrong way and I'm sure it gets boring when there aren't many people to attend to) But there's no reason to check in on a table every five minutes unless you have a really large party. besides that, would definitely come back! Overall, the food was decent but there were several areas that could use improvement: 1) The Broccolini which could not be substituted was very tough, not what we expected and the browned potatoes were not warm (as they should be); 2) the fact that bread was an add-on ($8.95) really wasn't what you would expect in an upscale dining experience;; 3) prices were representative of a very upscale restaurant, which this doesn't fit this bill; 4) one of our friends ordered the same dish I ordered and they both came out with the fish (rockfish ) looking like one was over cooked and the other cooked more correct; 5) although the desert was tasty (lava cake) the portion of gelato was quite small that accompanied the cake; 6) my friend ordered a beer and the glass was really small, again not what you would expect As i initially indicated, food was a little more than just okay (not excellent), service was average, and prices are on the above average price scale. My wife and I have eaten at many international fine dining establishments and this restaurant cannot be rated 5 stars, maybe 3.5 -4. My friend and I ordered truffle fries, oysters, tuna sushi and drinks. The space was beautiful and a general good vibe. The service was great. There was nobody there when I initially arrived. The oysters were delicious with or without the dressings and appeared to be from a local VA source. The sushi roll left a lot to be desired. It was a tad warm and the ginger appeared spoiled. I should've opted for the tuna tartare tacos. The truffle fries were a good hit - flavorful with amazing aioli. I also tried the basil lemongrass No-Jito and London Lavender strawberry lemonade. The former was light and tasty the latter felt watered down. Overall a good place to stop for light apps and decent drinks. The dinner menu had crab cakes and other delicious options. I came here for a work dinner and they had a variety of hors d'oeuvres and sushi. The sushi rice felt a little under season, but the fish tasted really fresh and amazing! Cocktails were very tasty! I had the miso corn and crab soup to start out and it had the right amount creaminess and small amounts crab meat. It was absolutely fantastic, one of the best soups I've had. Next came main meal which was a surf and turf. The filet mignon was seasonedwas seasoned very nice and was a good cut to of meat. However, they definitely overcooked it. I ordered a medium rare, and it came out medium well. The lobster tail was seasoned and cooked well. A good size tail that paired well with the steak. The aligot potato was very smooth and tasted fantastic. For desert I had a lemon cake which came out quite bigger than I imagined. That three course meal was quite delicious but it did take around 2 hours for the all the food to come our due in part to the large turnout. West Coast Provisions was a stop made by my girlfriend, her mom and I for my girlfriend's birthday. Seating here is a little tight. Other than that, it was comfortable in the restaurant. We had a 6:45 reservation but were seated as soon as we got there at 6:25. Our waiter was super nice. He was a younger guy. It was a very busy Saturday night so I don't want to fully blame him for having to wait along time to get the check and boxes. To start we ordered the Calamari. When I tell you this is some of the best calamari I've ever had... it is! It's a lightly fried Calamari with almost like a sweet honey glaze on top. The green onions help add flavor in every bite as well. I would come back to this place just to get the Calamari. Next up, we ordered a truffle fry. These weren't your typical fries. They were cut like shoestring fries. And they also weren't very crispy. They were soggy almost. They still had excellent flavor and paired super well with the dipping sauces. I think they would be nice as a side to a burger but I wouldn't get them alone. We then shared a Crunchy Roll. This roll was pretty dang good. The shrimp was super flavorful and the whole roll had a nice texture. The East Coast Roll though was special. I would've never thought to put old bay on a sushi roll, but hey, it was super good. I liked this roll so much. For the main course, I ordered the WCP burger. It needed a lot more sauce. They didn't put much on to begin with. Other than that, I thought the burger was actually decently sized. The lettuce and pickled red onions tasted fresh and the bun was incredible. Not too much to complain about there. The aligot potatoes were my biggest toss up of the night. It had a really good cheesy potato flavor. But it almost had a grits type texture and on top of that, it congealed almost like how grease does after it sits out for a while. I think the texture was a big turn off for me and I would've like something more creamy or more airy. To end off the night, we got some house donuts. These took FOREVER to get to our table but they were hot and fresh when it got to our table. They tasted phenomenal but it's awkward as hell to eat. There isn't a lot of the lemon sauce or whatever it is so your stuck trying to get a piece of the donut and some fruit and then dip it. I just found it to be a big mess. Overall this is a decent restaurant to stop at. I thought pricing was a little high for some things but other things, specifically the sushi, were actually priced fairly. They have options on options and I'll definitely be back to give this place another review. I would recommend you try this spot for yourself and make sure to get the calamari!!! read more

Met some friends here for dinner, and had a great time. Their food is very good. My wife had the shrimp & grits, and I had the fried grouper sandwich. We both liked our entrees a lot. I enjoy a good fish sandwich, which is very difficult to find in the Richmond area. The best ones are always grilled or blackened, but West Coast's fried version was very light on the breading, so it was one of the better ones I've had. I was borderline 5 stars on the food, but the only knock I had was actually the service. Our server was a little bit rude, and when I asked if ranch dressing was an option for my side salad, he acted like that was a ridiculous request.
