    French onion soup
    Liyang S.

Good food at reasonable prices, unless you're getting the steak, which are twice the price of most entrees. Then again, this is a steak house, so that's to be expected. I got the French onion soup, prime rib sandwich, and salad with salmon as an add on. They were all cooked well and tastes good. Service was fast, but I was the only one in the restaurant. Ambiance is chill and quiet since I was the only one in the dining room. The bar area is inside the hotel, which has nice energy from the coming and going of guests. I don't see a special reason to visit though unless you live in the hotel or have an event. There are better restaurants with better food for less within a short driving distance.

The lobster Mac did leave more to be desired the noodles were a little mushy and oily and not enough lobster ( maybe put them on top!?) but the overall meal was solid. We didn't have cocktails but the sweet tea did what it was supposed to do. Would def go back! What made this experience great beyond the food was our server Devin! Even after it filled in (we were there for 3+ hours), it still had great acoustics. Easy to carry on a conversation. We got a few things before the mains - shrimp cocktail (4 to a serving), prosciutto wrapped mozzarella (amazing), chopped wedge (very good just needed a little more blue cheese dressing). For the mains, we both got the ancho rubbed cowboy ribeye and I got the broiled blue cheese add on (yes, love blue cheese). The steak was AMAZING!! Cooked perfectly and incredibly flavorful. I strongly recommend the fromage topping!! For sides, we got portabella mushrooms and the Brussels sprouts. The mushrooms were fantastic. The sprouts were not very good. Tasted boiled and no flavor. All in all... highly recommend this place. Keep in mind, it's pricey. Our bill was $400 and all I had was water. My friend had 3 old fashioneds.

Noise level can be challenging so we try to go in the early side when possible. Went for our anniversary in during Richmond restaurant week in October (they gave us a complimentary glass of bubbly to celebrate) and again with the kids in December. They always have amazing cocktails. Their mixologist is on their game with so many choices! For our anniversary, we got Cloud Boat and Apartment in the City, and we loved them both. Both were completely as described, light and ez in the palate which is a skill for whiskey. For apps we got the PEI mussels and the smoked fish dip. Again both were delicious. I particularly love my fish dip - the groom focaccia was done beautifully in the dill was a nice compliment to the flavor. For entrées, we had the catfish sandwich and the Arctic char. The catfish sandwich was good, but nowhere near the quality of the Arctic char, which was savory and delicious and elevated by the brown butter and golden raisins. Since it was restaurant week the dessert was included in the price so we got the apple cranberry fry pie And the chocolate ganache bar. Both were a nice way to end the meal. Tasty but not mind blowing. With the kids we ordered Gnac attack, Proper Dose, American Love Call, and Bebot. Again they were all so good but for me the Proper Dose and Gnac attack were the best. For apps we got the fish dip and one of the specials and loved them both. Entrees were the Spanish mackerel, the arctic char and a special that was a gumbo and rice. We ate everything and had no room for dessert. Can't wait to go back.

The service was a little too leisurely for my temperament, and the tab did arrive at the table on one piece of paper when we had clearly requested that there be a separate tab for each couple, but those would be my only complaints. We all had cocktails, one from their specialty list and three that were standard issue. All were delicious and had an appropriate alcohol content for cocktails. The restaurant week menu provided a good variety of choices. Everything we had was really delicious. Portions were generous, so I could not eat more than about half of each course and not get overly full, but I assume they are sized for all but the hungriest diner. The venue's sound level was pretty high. I could have left my hearing aids at home so I wouldn't hear as much of the background noise. Noisy restaurants are pretty standard, I guess. We will definitely be returning to Alewife. It will probably take the place of Grisette in the rotation, which has been dropped because of institution of a fee for reservations canceled less than 24 hours in advance. (I don't think it should be treated as a privilege to dine somewhere when you have so many equivalent choices, but I guess they want to decrease the number of people who try to make them their dining choice. Objective accomplished.) The Hemingway quote at the bottom of the tab was a little weird. Not a Hemingway fan, but I guess it was an interesting thing to do. If you have read other reviews of mine, you may be aware that basically non-alcoholic cocktails that should have alcohol in them are reason enough for me to never return to a restaurant.

I've been here a few times now, and every visit has been a good one. One of my favorite things about Burtons is how versatile it is. Whether you're stopping in for happy hour, grabbing dinner, meeting friends for drinks, or planning a date night, it's always a solid choice. The Carytown location is another plus, with plenty to do before or after your visit. Parking can be a little challenging depending on the time of day, but that's expected in such a popular area. There are several nearby garages and parking decks that make it manageable. If you're looking for a great happy hour in Richmond, I'd definitely recommend checking out Burtons!

They of course didn't let me down but I was so surprised on how great the food was. The Bang Bang broccoli was hands down my favorite. So tangy and sweet with this crazy crunch. Burton's has such an amazing selection of alcohol. They don't even have rail alcohol just top tier offerings. I enjoyed an espresso martini made with tequila which was absolutely perfect. I also had a desert flower made with mezcal, elderflower and prickly pear. Listen I can't wait for another. Huge shout out to Yelp for the amazing event and our server Peggah who was absolutely the cutest. Great customer service; knowledgeable; made suggestions and was super personable. We got early reservations for 5:30, there were only a couple of tables with patrons but by the time we left if filled up. It's such a chic spot, I wonder why we don't come here more often. My daughter also enjoyed the ambience. We started off with Pimento Croquettes which were super light and I loved the pimento cheese spread it came with. My daughter actually ordered the creste di gallo pasta which was delicious. The waitress did warn us of the spice (my daughter doesn't love things too spicy, so they recommended the burrata with it)... it ended up being too spicy for her lol so I swapped with her. She ended up eating my Roasted Pork Loin with curried spaetzle which she loved and I did too (no worry we had leftovers of both which I will probably end up eating lol ). My only complaint was that both dishes were a bit lukewarm... I thought both were flavorful but I would've loved if they were hotter. I have a thing with piping hot food. All in all it was great and I will need to come back soon. Side note, we went to Shyndigz for dessert after, which was super close so that was nice.

I ordered the rockfish without the bun, while my dad had it with the bun, and both were great. The beet salad was fresh and flavorful, and the fries were solid. The mac & cheese, unfortunately, was not good at all. On the plus side, the hot cider was delicious. Desserts were a bit of a mixed thoughts. The bread pudding was definitely the best one we tried and really enjoyable. However, the chocolate peanut butter pie was a big disappointment. It was extremely hard and cold (not pie texture), the peanut butter wasn't creamy at all, and it honestly tasted more like a protein bar loaded with sugar.
