A beautiful restaurant with really good food and good service. A toss up between a four star and a five star review. The differentiator for me was the price. The server was overall fantastic and the food was really good. My wife and I split the meal for two which was a tenderloin with asparagus. Everything tasted wonderful and the beef was cooked perfectly. The dish was served with a brown steak gravy which paired nicely with the beef. I can tell the beef selection is a high quality and the service was really nice however, I still feel the price was a little much for what was offered. read more

Went to Hondos for lunch today. They have 12 lunch specials under $12. I was pleasantly surprised by the variety. The service was wonderful and the staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere is very nice, it is a little more upscale than most restaurants. For today's visit I had the meatloaf. I am not a fan of most restaurants meatloaf. This meatloaf was very excellent and was not full of fillers. This lunch menu is full of great choices and I can't wait to go back and try something else. read more

I recently tried this steakhouse for a business dinner... Made reservations to come in on a weeknight and when we got there, it was about half full inside. The décor and dining rooms are nicely setup, modern, and somewhat cozy, as they have multiple dining rooms. Table setting was nice, but they didn't do a very good job replacing my silver as I used it and moved on to the next course... other than this, service was great! Menu is pretty nice and it's loaded with many of the popular chophouse items. They even have a nice selection of salads with discounts if bought with an entrée. We started with their New Orleans style BBQ shrimp which had a decent flavor, but way too much butter in it. It should resemble more of a brighter red color with visible spices in it. But what we got was a thick, buttery, pink/orange sauce. Flavor was ok, shrimp was cooked nicely. It was good to dip bread into. Next up was their wedge salad - Typical, HUGE salad with a quarter of the iceberg lettuce head and all the other items... I love adding ranch dressing to the bluecheese that's already on it and in this case, it worked perfectly! The lettuce and ingredients were flavorful and very fresh. I enjoyed it, but could only eat half of it to ensure I saved room for my entrée. For my entrée I got steak frites for the first time ever! They did an amazing job with the hangar steak! Great flavor and perfect temperature! It was a good size portion as well. The fries that came with it were amazingly crispy and quite nice, I just wish they were slightly warmer. They seem to coat them with corn starch, as I saw some on several of the fries. I loved how crunchy they were! And they came with a nice ketchup... I wonder if it's homemade? I came during lunch and they had a lunch special menu where I ended up ordering the grilled salmon ($17). Food came out in about 15 minutes and it was quite good. The seasoning was excellent while also not being overly salty. It was quite moist, and the salmon split apart with ease with a fork. The vegetables were sautéed very well. The mashed potato was super smooth and buttery. A very balanced meal for lunch that filled me up without weighing me down afterwards. Staff and service were above average just took a bit of time to get the check and bill paid for. Overall I was surprised by the lunch special offerings as it was super affordable and delicious! Couldn't have asked for a better dinner at Hondo's. Everything from the food to the service to the ambiance was 10 out of 10. We had a company holiday celebration, so our party was rather large, therefore we opted/were offered the pre-fixed "Celebration Menu"/course dinner. The Appetizer Platters One and Three were amazing - SO much food for our table that we were all pretty full by the time our first course came. The fried calamari and crab cakes were cooked to perfection. The ahi tuna and lemon pepper scallops were also uniquely fantastic. We each had plenty to take home from just these two platters. I opted for the seafood bisque soup (SO tasty with chunks of crab) and Caesar salad (nothing special). The chocolate torte dessert was basically a giant piece of fudge - creamy and delicious. The whipped butter, however, was the pièce de résistance. If I could buy a bulk order of that butter, I would pay an unreasonable amount for it. My wife and I made reservations here for a special occasion. We were seated on arrival and the overall service was very good. There was a long delay from being seated to actually getting drinks... but after that it went well. We both ordered steaks(of course). Unfortunately, I our experience and expectations fell short. The food was ok. The service was good. The restaurant is laid out nicely and the bathrooms were clean. Slow to get mixed drinks. Overall most of the meal was tasteless. The bone in filet was cooked medium rare and tender but fell short on flavor. Wine selection was good. Very expensive meal for an experience. I called it up as a great dinner with family and that is priceless. The best and most flavorful part of the meal was the haystack onion rings. We went to Hondo's for my dad's birthday. We all ordered the filet mignon cooked different temps and all were cooked to perfection. Since my parents split a steak, we added more side dishes. One side dish is enough for 2 healthy portions or 3 decent size portions so it worked great. We got the garlic mashers, asparagus and some mixed veggies. The garlic mashed potatoes were my favorite followed by the asparagus. The steak was heavenly. Then they brought this poundcake desert out for my dad. Got to check this place out while in VA for Father's Day weekend. We happened to go on a Sunday which is when they host their Jazz Brunch. It's pretty extensive buffet brunch and there were a lot of yummy food options. I tried stuffed french toast, grits, scrambled eggs made by chef attendant, biscuits, lamb, gnocchi, ribs, and some type of cake with fruit in it for dessert. I also ordered a bloody mary. Whew! LOL, that sounds like so much food. It was a buffet so I just got small portions of all of this and indulged. Everything was really delicious! My favorites were the stuffed french toast and the gnocchi dish. These were just really well prepared and yummy. I enjoyed all the different options and layout. One complaint is that the placement for the omelette station is very awkward and causes a major pileup constantly in the main entrace area. It was pretty hectic and very busy to get around in that area. Overall, it was well worth the traffic. I got to try so much food and I'd go back! read more

My wife and I have been to Hondo's many times over the years. It seems to be in progressive decline with each visit. It's an expensive meal, which is fine if the quality matches the price. My potatoes were cold and greasy. I overheard the table next to us complaining of the same. Our steaks were not cooked properly and had to be sent back. It was simply not enjoyable. On the positive side, the staff were pleasant and accomodating and the atmosphere was nice. We picked Hondo's for our anniversary dinner since it was close to home but with Perry's in Short Pump now and Fleming's coming soon, I think Hondo's might be in trouble. Sunday buffet was terrible. I have heard good things- hoping the regular lunch and dinner service is better. Our prime rib was chewy, not seasoned and cold. The rest of the food was bland, cold, and certainly not visually appealing. The only thing I would consider to be good was dessert. We literally got in the car and all said we were hungry. When we walked in the host was clearly upset we interrupted her social media time on her phone and just looked up. No greeting. Nothing. Hondos is my go to spot when I want to treat myself to a good steak. I have been coming to Hondos for years and really appreciate the hospitality and craftsmanship of their steaks! I always order the steak Au poivre which is a steak that has like a peppercorn cream sauce. What I really love about Hondos is they aim to please. I requested my steak to be cooked medium and the waitstaff has you cut into the steak to confirm it's cooked to perfection. On this visit my group decided to order a few For starters. We ordered calamari,A cheese tray and a few soups. The seafood bisque soup we ordered was wayyyyyyyyyyy too salty. For context it tasted like they poured an enter jar of salt in the soup. It was awful and definitely not typical for Hondos. The staff was really apologetic and rushed a new bean soup out in a hurry. The replacement soup was pretty good. The parking lot is on the small side and fills up relatively quickly at dinner. We opted for an early dinner reservation as soon as they opened (430pm) there was plenty of parking when we arrived. When we left around 620 there wasn't anywhere to park. Just something to keep in mind. Overall I adore Hondos and look forward to many more meals their with family and friends. read more

I can't say enough good things about our experience. My daughter and I went on a Sunday evening and had the most pleasant time. The ambiance is very nice. Lots of character in the dining area. And the servers were spot on. We started the meal with Fried Oysters that were wonderful. For our drinks, my daughter had a margarita and I had a drink that had vodka, but I asked to substitute rum. It tasted so good. I had the Filet Mignon that was simply divine. It was served on a portabello mushroom cap, with lump crab meat on top and a balsamic reduction. I am a big steak lover and looked forward to trying this place out. They are always booked up so I was excited to see we could get in on Sunday after church. What we weren't told, until after we had ordered our drinks was, it was only open for a brunch buffet. We figured we would try it seen as we had already ordered beverages, but we were not impressed. The food was all bland. Even their prime rib was dry and tasteless. The area to order omelets was crowded and you were constantly in someone's way. It reminded us of a hotel breakfast that comes free with your stay, but was $40 a person. We ordered bloody Mary's that were so gross we ordered wine instead. The menu makes it look like the wine is $7 but when the check came we learned they were almost $12 each. The last thing that really bothered me was the fact that there is unwrapped sugar cubes left on the table from one customer to the next. We may give it another try if we can find a time without the buffet but as of now we are not happy customers. read more
