We had a reservation for our group of four people. The staff were nice. He took our order but we didn't see him after that. The hostess did our drink refills and provided service. It was strange. The space is super cute! I had the seafood pasta and my husband had the lamb chops and the lobster Mac and cheese. We did the smoked chicken app with blue cheese and ranch. The seafood pasta was fire! Though i did desire more seafood more mussels maybe some scallops. The lamb was cooked to perfection! The chicken was done very well and the blue cheese was so good! The lobster Mac did leave more to be desired the noodles were a little mushy and oily and not enough lobster ( maybe put them on top!?) but the overall meal was solid. Searching for a steakhouse was a challenge because we wanted something casual and modern. ML Steak spoke to us even with the mixed reviews. Walking inside was very welcoming with the cool "fireplace" tv screens and the "Cheers to Life" wall sign. Food was very good. Yes, our group ordered the various steaks: filet, strip and ribeye with add on such as the crabcake. The steaks weee all cooked as we requested and the char on these hunks of beef were exceptional. The crab cake was a disappointment. There was hardly any "lump" to that crab meat, I only tasted claw meat. Staff service was mixed for us. Our server was fun, informative yet hardly checked on us. This is a beautiful and spacious restaurant with public parking directly across the street. Street parking is difficult. I highly recommend their fillet flight menu choice. On a quick down one day back the next trip to Richmond, Yelp assisted me with finding a good convenient steakhouse before heading to the big holiday party. It was around 6pm and the restaurant was pretty empty but we chose to sit at the bar. The menu was appealing, having many of the items I tend to be drawn to. I wanted the Ribeye but the lamb chops were smaller and I had a party to get to.. Let's get the lamb chops.. Lol! I must say, they were excellent and the truffle fries were just as good. I saw a gentleman digging into a rack of ribs and if I were here an extra day, I'd come back for those..lol! Our bartender/server was Johnny on the spot, making sure we had an excellent dining experience. Just a note, they have four large televisions at the bar and this is college football bowl season, but unfortunately, they are choosing to not show sporting events in an attempt to maintain a certain clientele I guess? I'd like to give them a bit of unsolicited advice. The bar attracts men like my buddy and I and all men, the rich and the not so rich, loves sports. I love anything by the Lindsey Food Group. Last week my mom was craving steak. I thought it'd be fun to stop somewhere nearby for lunch. It's so great that this steak house has lunch and dinner hours. We walked over, but there is a Pulse stop nearby and free street parking in surrounding areas. We loved our food so much we went back the following week for dinner. Our first visit was a Monday afternoon. We shared the King Cut Sirloin with the mac and cheese side and a kale + romaine caesar. We were served pretty quickly because we were the only people there for lunch. The steak was nice, the mac was the real star of the show. I'm wary of ordering mac out, but this was incredible and filled with great flavor. The caesar was a nice way to get our greens in. We adored the lemon bliss cake as a dessert, it was HUGE. We came back last night (Monday dinner) to try the famous filet flight. It was incredible. It comes with three different styles of steak (blue cheese, crab, parm potatoes) and a side (we got collard greens). I'm drooling writing about this entree. You HAVE to order this dish, it's so good and perfect to share with someone. We got the chocolate cake for dessert and did not like it. Do note that while we were served quickly at lunch, there seemed to be only one server for six tables at dinner so the service got really slow at the end. There is a lot of seating options here and it's an interesting design. Be mindful that there is a 20% tip added automatically. The food is good though and that's all that really matters. The service has just been alright, we have felt a bit disregarded. The drinks were really good. The food is all flavorful and well seasoned and it would all be a 10/10 if it were served warmer. Both times we've been here most of our food has been served at room temperature. They've been hit or miss on cooking to the correct temp too. Nevertheless, it is still enjoyable. Amazing steak house! Steak was cooked perfectly and the seasoning and char was great. The dining room was inviting with ambient lighting. The waiter and staff were knowledgeable, however they did not check in with us as much as I would like, maybe they are short staffed but we did wait a bit for the check and water refills. Some of recently had a business dinner here... We selected this restaurant based on the good reviews we read online. The day we went it was dead; in fact, we were the only table sat for well over an hour. The service we got from our server was very friendly and nice, but her training was slightly lacking... For instance, I asked how the steaks were prepared and she wasn't aware. It was fine though, not a big deal, I blame management, not her. Overall, no issues with service, as she was sincerely interested in providing the best service she could. Their menu looked pretty nice, it offered a decent selection of steaks and many other items, including fried chicken. Their side dishes were also rather appealing. One member of our party got a rib eye and he said it was outstanding! I got the filet and it was loaded with gristle, not what I'd expect from a steakhouse. Interesting that their steaks came with steak sauce, something nice steakhouses will never offer, but some do make a special/unique sauce and I would assume that is what this was. It was nice and actually helped with my filet. The crab cake that I got as an accompaniment with the steak was really good though. Their spinach side dish was great, it was perfectly prepared. Their apple dessert was really good... served with ice cream, it was a nice finish to the meal. Wine list was pretty bad... the syrah I selected said it was a 2010 on the menu, but that's not the vintage we got, and it tasted like water. For a steakhouse, it didn't have the wine I'd expect, the quality of meat I'd expect, not the trained staff I'd expect. We accidentally made reservations on the wrong day. I called to say we're running late and that's how I found out. Without a doubt they said they could still accommodate us. I got charged a cancellation fee and the manager refunded me my cancellation fee because I stressed to him that I accidentally booked the wrong day. This place is right next to the convention center so very much a convenient place to dine. I was in town for a conference and wanted some quality food for lunch. I was super happy that this place was close and took reservations via google. There were about 4500 of us at the conference so I assumed they might get busy. Once we arrived, we did have to wait about 30 minutes to be seated post reservation time. I don't think they were expecting the crowd they got. Once we were seated, I didn't have any other issues. Our server was Riley. She was amazing, personable, and attentive. She checked on us often and was able to give good recommendations. This is a steakhouse and I was coming for steak. Oddly enough they only have one steak option before dinner so I was shocked by that. I was looking forward to grabbing some filet mignon. I ended up making my own "Land and Sea" meal so I ordered the 8oz King Cut Sirloin cooked medium, a crab cake, and collard greens. I tried the Whistlepig Smoked Maple Old Fashion (not a fan, very sweet) and followed it up with a Rye & Honey Old Fashioned (more traditional). Overall, I would be back. We had this location on our list to try for a while. We went down on a week night for dinner. Parking is a challenge. We paid to park in the lot across the street and it was pricey. There may be some free parking but I did not see it or find any open spots on the street. The place was fairly empty when we went in and we got seating fairly quickly... After that the service fell off... after about 20 min the manager came over and said there was confusion over who had our table.. and she would take over. There were only 4 tables with people.. so not sure about the confusion part. The steak that we both had was very good and high quality. We ordered the filet medallion flight and each of the filets were well-seasoned - the dish is enough to feed two (along with a side and appetizer). I'm a sucker for a Caesar salad and this one did not disappoint, the dressing was just right and had the right amount of lemon flavor that I love. My only thing would be to put a touch less cheese and dressing on it but otherwise loved! Meal- the chicken, 3.5/5, was seasoned really well, which is a huge plus! It was juicy, hot and not super greasy, I was not wowed like I thought I would be but overall it was a solid choice. The asparagus, 1/5, they were overcooked and over seasoned, I only ate one piece and left the rest. The Mac and cheese, 2/5, meh, the noodles were a bit overcooked for me. Japanese old fashioned- 3/5, I'm an old fashioned gal so I was excited to try this drink, the descriptor was what sold me (lemongrass and ginger) but I did not taste any of those flavors and the drink was extremely sweet--strong but too sweet for me. I had to let the ice melt a bit before finishing the drink. Overall solid place. The service was ok, the bartender mentioned shed opens and closes every Sunday which might explain why she seemed a little checked out. The food looked good, but several of the reviews complained about cold food. Everyone who reads my reviews knows how I hate cold food. We talked at length about what I like and dislike. Franklin assured me that he understood and would come in on his day off and make sure things would go smoothly. That night - everything was perfect. My friend and I were visiting Richmond from Maryland. We enjoy going to steakhouses when we travel. We searched for options in RVA and chose this location based on reviews. We must've missed the rush because it was plenty of available seating upon arrival. This restaurant is aesthetically pleasing to the eye. It is a beautiful establishment. For food, we did not order appetizers. To be a steakhouse, there's no bread given. That's a first. We both ordered filets cooked medium, macaroni and cheese, smoky collards, spinach, and mashed potatoes. I could tell by the "bounce" that our steaks weren't cooked medium. I was correct. They were both medium rare. The macaroni and cheese was very good. The smoky collards and spinach were good. My friend thought the mashed potatoes were ok. I wasn't a fan. The food gets cold quickly so don't think about having a conversation while eating. I'd highly recommend warming the dishes before plating. The staff was friendly. I'd try this place again due to the hospitality. Our waitress, Rittisha, said that her favorite dish was the smoked fried half chicken. I was actually excited to eat here at ML Steak Modern Chophouse. Especially because the owner also owns Buttermilk Honey & Lilly Pearl. I have raved about Buttermilk Honey on Yelp and to friends. I was a little disappointed in the menu choices. For starters the appetizer/small plate choices were not that appealing to ME. They also didn't have any bread for the table. So we just sat around looking at each other/talking waiting for our food. 2 people ordered the appetizer Truffled Lobster Mac & Cheese and they both didn't like it. I asked to taste it and it was watery (not to be confused with a creamy sauce) definitely watery and tasteless. Not good at all. $18 I ordered the Filet Medallion Flight. 2 of the 3 filet medallions I ordered were not cooked medium well as I requested, they were pretty rare. I was hungry so I did ask for them to be cooked more. Normally I would never send food back. I would just refused to eat it and tell the manager.. but like I said, I am hungry. After the medallions came back, One of the recooked medallions was still not medium well. I didn't eat it. $55 came with 1 side. The mashed potatoes were my 1 side. They were good except they were dry. Literally there was no pat of butter or gravy, just a small scoop of mashed potatoes. I ordered a side of Collard Greens not knowing the side was $9! They taste fine but in no way worth $9 for a veggie side dish. Although I am not happy, the food presented well. I also asked if the tip was included on the check. The waiter said no, but there is a service charge on the check. Something they split between the majority of the staff and their hourly rate was raised. I believe I calculated it to be 20% of my total so yeah, that's the tip as far as I'm concerned. I'm not paying a 20% service charge (call it what you want) and a 20% tip. And, according to the receipt apparently taxed on the service charge as well. The manager adjusted, I think, everyone's check in one way or another. But did nothing for me but apologize. Understand, I don't mind spending $100 easy on a quality meal with exceptional service! I frequent Ruth Chris. ML Steak is no comparison. As far as ambiance, i noticed couples, girlfriends hanging out, 1 other large party. All said and done. $85 . Not worth it. Yeah, not a happy camper. I'll not be returning. read more
