I've visited Poseidon Seafood Boil a few times and the experience has been consistently good. I usually go straight to the bar and I rarely have to wait long. When you walk in, the staff acknowledges you right away, which I always appreciate. The drinks and food come out pretty fast, and the environment is clean, fun, and relaxed. The bathrooms were also clean and smelled nice, which is something I always pay attention to. One of the faucets was slightly broken and the water pressure was very low, but that was the only issue I noticed. The drinks were good, and the seafood boil was amazing. The crabs were big, meaty, juicy, and the flavor was excellent. They play music that fits the culture and the vibe of the restaurant, which makes the atmosphere fun. The only thing I would suggest is possibly keeping the music censored earlier in the day since families and kids may be present. Some people may not mind, but it stood out to me. This was my second time visiting the restaurant, and honestly, it was a noticeable step down from my first experience. On my initial visit, everything was hot, fresh, and absolutely delicious. I left raving about it. This time, customer service was noticeably slow. We waited so long for gloves and a bib that by the time we were finally able to start eating, our boil had already cooled to a lukewarm temperature. It definitely took away from the experience. But I do need to note the young lady serving us was extremely pleasant but not the most attentive. The steamed oysters were also far too briny, and the sauce was so runny and watered down that it completely overpowered the dish. The sauce was a bright orange blob, nothing like the first time. It tasted like the butter was forgotten entirely. Unfortunately, that same sauce was used in my boil, which ruined it as well. During my first visit, the garlic butter was rich and full of flavor, so the inconsistency was surprising. The only thing that held up this time was the old-fashioned which remains a 10/10! For just over $200 with tip for two disappointing boils, three drinks, and a dozen oysters I'm not sure I'll return to give it another try anytime soon. However, I'd still encourage readers to give them a try as my second visit may have been on a bad night. Came here for dinner on a Saturday and was surprised it wasn't to busy. I ordered the sweet potato fries ($6) and the combo B boil with 1lbs of shrimp (head on) and crab legs($40) with the possession boil seasoning. It came out in about 20 minutes. The seasoning was good, but with them combining all three seasoning it was a bunch of different flavors and made it a bit hard to hone on a single flavor. The crab legs were sweet and tasted great in the sauce. Shrimp was a a good size but felt like I had a batch that just molted as the shell was quite difficult to get off. I really enjoyed the sides of corn, potatoes, and sausage were included free, my favorite being the corn with all of the seasoning! The inside interior is very nice for a seafood boil. We get the Poseidon Boil's special sauce, which is a mix of all of them. The medium heat is just enough for a kick. The Cajun fries were surprisingly so good. It was our anniversary so we always do something new. We saw Poseidon boil and decided to give it a try based on the other type of restaurants that are just like it.. The restaurant was as bright as the noon day sun. The music was so loud and was urban hip-hop. Not what we were looking for, but we appreciate all types of music. I could barely talk to my date sitting just across the table due to the loud volume. This explains why you on a Sunday night at 7 PM we were the second table in the restaurant. We were greeted right away, but it took 10 minutes for a server to come to welcome us. It seems to be a family run business and they were more interested in taking care of their toddler than the table at their restaurant. The quality of food was good. But the fried fish and onion rings were disappointing. as the last portions were not cook long enough in the breading fell off due to excess oil. It took several minutes to find our server to get our check. I stood up twice, scanning the restaurant for our server. He was just on the other side of the wall. More interested in his phone than the reason why the doors are open to the public. We came here to celebrate Mother's Day and a graduation. The interior is neat and decorated in a modern way. There's mirrors, lights, and balloons! We got a Poseidon boil feast--which had crab legs, shrimp head off, mussels, clams, crawfish, corn, potatoes, and sausages-- with the mixed Poseidon sauce. The sauce had lots of flavor and oil, kept going back for more. My only issue with this was that it wasn't hot, more like lukewarm. We also got a combo B and that was steaming hot, unlike the first tray of food we got. The crab legs were somewhat easy to break and eat. I wish we had a scissor for some of the knuckle meat or the smaller legs. The sausages were cut thin and well marinated. The shrimp was a decent size, same with the crawfish. Also, service was amazing. Our waitress really tried to connect with us and was attentive, especially when we needed menus and new gloves. Wow 10/10 would definitely recommend!! Saw a few reviews on this restaurant wanted to give it a try. I stopped by 5pm on a Wednesday just to give you an idea of the atmosphere.. walked in there was no wait as well as no one in the building but staff. I was greeted and told to sit anywhere! The booths were clean and spaced out the owner started playing music that fit the vibe of the dining area! I assumed this place could be packed out on weekends. The food was amazing a boil bag is so simple but it's all on how the chef makes that sauce and that combination of Lemon Pepper and Garlic Butter my goodness I might it just hopped on the Lemon Pepper Bandwagon!!! Just moved to the area, this was my first seafood boil here (coming from MD, where theres really only one place i really like for boils). Not only was this restaurant's vibes/interior not giving your run-of-the-mill boil joint (which i appreciate), they are also not serving up your run-of-the-mill boils. The sauce is BOSS, specifically the house blend. And the staff is actually friendly! I did take out but would love to come back and dine in. The food was excellent! I literally ordered my food on a Sunday during brunch and it came out four minutes later! I ended up getting the raspberry lemon drop and that was so good and so cute. The way the bartender made it. When I got there, there were about six other tables that were full, but there was literally no weight. The waitress was also very friendly, and they came around to make sure we were OK every 10 minutes or so which I thought was great. Poseidon Boil is an extension of their OG restaurant Mr. Boil that's been serving seafood boil deliciousness to the Hampton Roads area for years. So you're probably thinking, "another seafood boil restaurant???" lol and to that I say there could never be enough in my humble opinion. Being from Houston, TX originally, where there is a plethora of Boil restaurants, I'm enjoying seeing the recent influx happening in RVA. Poseidon Boil will soon be set apart from others, as they are delivering some super tasty Cajun boils, delicious fried seafood and poke which I haven't seen before in boil restaurants. I started with the fried fish basket with Cajun fries and it was delicious! The fish was perfectly fried and the Cajun fries were seasoned to perfection! The dipping sauce elevated the flavor even more! Next up I had the Dungeness crab & shrimp boil with corn, boiled eggs and sausage. For the sauce, I chose the "Poseidon boil special" which is all of the sauce options combined and got medium for the spice level. The sauce on the was so rich, buttery, garlicky and flavorful. It was so good that I got a side of rice to eat it on. I'd do spicy next time though because medium wasn't as spicy. I really can't say enough about the sauce y'all. It was sooooo good! I would probably go just to order the sauce to go lol. For drinks, I had the "New Yorker" and a "Lychee Martini" and their cocktails are equally amazing! I came here with 3 of my friends since we were craving seafood boil and this place did not disappoint. We got seated immediately and ordered the Feast combo (perfect amount for 4 people in my opinion). The sauce here is sososo good and they really don't slack with the potatoes and corn. I will say that the crab legs were a little soft. Not rotten but prepared wrong? We weren't able to crack any of them open since they were gummy. It was also a little hard to wave down a server since the place is so big and they only had 3 ppl working the entire place including the bar but not uncommon in new establishments. Decided to come try this place after seeing it on my Yelp feed (Friday around 5:30ish). Super close to me, in a nice location. Located in a shopping strip type of area, so easy access to parking. Upon walking in, I was nicely greeted by the sweet bartender, "Kris" (I think). There were a few people dining in, but not overly packed, or busy. Nice vibe, great music. I opted for a seat at the bar. As for food, I'm not the biggest seafood lover but I ordered a boil bag with just snow crabs legs, it came with 1 corn and a potato. I got it in the garlic butter obay flavor, mild heat. Came in 1lb, nice amount, about 3 clusters. It was pretty good, would definitely order again. Since it was my first time and I wanted to try everything, I also ordered their "Cajun wings" basket with onion rings. When I placed the order for the wings, she did ask me if I wanted them fried hard, to me "fried hard" sounded a bit too much for my liking but I did say I was okay with "crispy". I shouldn't have ‍ They were definitely too hard. The flavor itself wasn't awful, definitely didn't taste anything "cajun" about them. The way they were cooked definitely felt like how you would get wings from a Chinese food restaurant, minus the some of the flavor. Again, not awful, but would definitely NOT get them hard, crispy or any variations of those words, and maybe try one of the flavored options next time. The onion rings weren't my favorite. They were "real" onion ring (not like the BK type), but no actual flavor or seasoning. Probably frozen. Would definitely stick with fries next time. As for drinks, I ordered a "Razzle Dazzle" which is supposed to be their version of a raspberry lemon drop. Won't get it again. I'm thinking it may have been whatever type of raspberry syrup/flavoring they have, to me it gave robitussin My girl could tell I wasn't feeling it based on it still being full and barley touched, and offered to switch it to something else. The chicken consisted of two extremely large pieces of breaded breast and that is my only negative. The chicken was delicious but it was too much (especially for a seafood place). First, this new business has great marketing strategy. They offered 50% off for two or so weeks when they first opened, and it was all over my social media. As a person who loves and could eat seafood everyday if there was no such thing as a budget (ha), I knew I had to check it out. I first attempted on a Friday night, and seeing the parking lot and folks hanging on the sidewalk, knew it was a long wait and I didn't wanna wait. I later saw on social media that night folks had waited like two hours. Fast forward and I went back on a Wednesday night, and there was still a good crowd of tables, but no wait, so I was happy to try it. I tried the boil combo that came with the lobster tails and opted for the shrimp (head off) as my second option and opted for their special sauce in mild. It wasn't really a strong sauce, so I'm kind of curious about the medium now and wondering if that would be a better step up without too much spice. The bags were decently filled and food was super fresh. I only wish the lobster tails had more flavor. To be fair, I'd never had lobster tails in a boil bag before (only lobster grilled or oven broiled), so don't have an expectation that wasn't met necessarily. It wasn't overcooked because it wasn't tough or rubbery. It was actually super soft and buttery but somehow almost too soft, like a delicate fish. So, the texture and lack of absorbing the sauce flavor led me to wishing I'd ordered crab legs instead. The shrimp, corn, potatoes, and sausage were delicious. Hence, why I know I just need to try something else in my boil bag, and I'm looking forward to trying more menu items here. The service was quick, efficient, and friendly. By the time dinner was wrapping they were about 10 mins go close, and they didn't even try to rush anyone out. Many people were still hanging at the bar, and other tables still eating. I can appreciate decent service, good food, and not rushing folks out of the door to clean up. I think this will be another great boil spot in the West end, that seemingly doesn't few things unique that doesn't feel like it's competing with other spots necessarily and just trying to perfect what they do. Lastly, I was impressed that everything, and I mean everything was on brand-the bibs, the table paper, etc. It's many different businesses in this shopping center so parking can be tricky and not on this business directly, but the lot lighting wasn't the best in spots and was rather dark. Just something to consider for my girls out there who may be doing girls night here or whatnot. Looking forward to trying more things on the menu here and returning soon. read more

I was so excited to try after reading reviews but my boil was disappointing. My shrimp was so overcooked and mushy I couldn't eat it. They were oozing out the shell when you grabbed them. Snow Crab legs were better than the shrimp but honestly made me nervous to eat. Sausage and corn was okay. The flavors are there but seafood was way overcooked. I went here last night and to say the service was terrible is an understatement. They were completely understaffed for the amount of people they were servicing. The bartender did not tend to the entire bar, only a select few customers, and was also taking shots with guests while I was waiting on my drink. The bar backs were complaining about being too busy and not wanting to be there. Extremely unprofessional. I wish I could leave a good review about the food but it took almost an hour to receive it so I was underwhelmed. The ambiance is the best thing this place has to offer. Very nice interior/bar and the music playlist was good. I may go back once they are fully staffed but until then it is an absolute NO. Food came out hot and my wife and I both ate until we were uncomfortable. The flavors are there in the seafood boils with their sauces. We tried the garlic butter with old bay and Poseidon sauce - we thought garlic butter with old bay sauce was better. So the reason for 3/5 stars is that the crawfish, snow crab, and mussels all had frozen seafood texture and overcooked with that. The problem with that is the cost in their menu is too high IMO.
