Dropped by Akoya since my friend and I decided to have dinner at our mid-way drive from Waldorf MD to VA Beach VA. We looked up Asian restaurants and found that Akoya had 4.7 stars on Yelp. I really wondered how they could have gotten such a rating when the food was at best 3 stars, service was okay not anything extraordinary or notable and ambiance is typical. I ordered the steak hibachi. The food came out tepid, as if it didn't come straight from the pan to the plate. The "steak" pieces were cut in at most half inch cubes, barely sized to taste the flavor. It didn't taste fresh and when you bite into it, the grain of the meat was imperceptible, as if they were steak McNuggets - ground up meat shaped into steak look alike. Was very disappointed even more because we were expecting the 4.7 rated food that everyone seemed to have given.

I would have never stopped here if it weren't for the Elite event last month. I promised my kiddo that we would get sushi today and all, I repeat ALL the sushi restaurants we usually go to are closed on Sundays. So glad that Akoya was open. I love the idea of demystifying the stereotypes of sushi in the USA. It doesn't have to be overly expensive or showy. It is ok to just have it be a fast food option. Sushi was meant to be. The ambiance is like an exceptionally clean and organized Chipotle. The service is welcoming. They literally say hello to everyone who walks in the door.

I got the sushi bento box, it came with a California roll, smoked salmon roll, and two shrimp tempura. The shrimp tempura batter was absolutely amazing. Crispy, warm, and flavorful! The sushi was also amazing. It was freshly made. The rice was perfectly warm, avocado was at peak ripeness, and the smoked salmon was delicious. The wasabi had a really pleasant smell and good spice to the sushi. It was about $18 for the box. Absolutely amazing food here, definitely a spot I come back to. I went on a Sunday after church (5.18.25). There wasn't a long line. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ordering was fairly easy and the interior was clean and spacious.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It took approximately 7-10 minutes for my food to be ready. I decided to sit in for a bit to enjoy after waiting. The Takoyaki were great. I've had them before in DC at Nara-Ya. I'd rate the ones at Akoya a 6/10. I got the Classic Bento Box with Spicy Tuna and California Rolls (6/10). Oddly enough they don't serve regular soy sauce, only sodium free. [[HIGHLIGHT]]All in all, this is a chill place maybe for lunch or a quick drop in. It was good and simple.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Awesome fast casual spot to satisfy hibachi and/or sushi cravings. The hibachi is teriyaki flavored and everything was seasoned very well and cooked perfectly. You have a choice of white or fried rice. I love the yum yum sauce on the side. The cream cheese roll was good, slightly heavy on the rice. They have seating inside and plenty of parking. The owners are super friendly. You can also order online in advance.

This is next to Potbelly and opened since May '23. You order at the counter and eat in the restaurant or take home. The restaurant is very clean and cute (e.g., Lego decoration Japanese seafood shop); the staff are super friendly and patient (e.g., we took a bit to order since it was our first time there); and the food came out fast. We ordered 2 appetizers and 3 rolls, and are pleased with food - everything tasty (but definitely on the rich and creamy side); the portion is great for the price. I'd definitely put this on our rotation list!

This was my first time visiting Akoya, and I'm in love. There was ample space in the parking lot. The restaurant is beside Potbelly in the Ross shopping center near the CVS at Broad and Cox. The restaurant is very clean with lots of indoor seating: high tables, regular tables, and booths. The decor is predominantly red and gray which looks beautiful. I was greeted so warmly when I walked in! You walk up to the register and place your order, then you're given a buzzer to notify you when your order is ready. (It only took a few minutes.) The waitress was eager to assist with any questions. I asked whether the Bento Box could have combo proteins like the Hibachi. I was told no, but I didn't mind since the Bento Box had enough variety. I ordered the Steak Bento Box (marinated steak atop a bed of rice along with veggies and chicken gyoza). You get to choose white vs. fried rice and I choose white. The food is served in a divided tray with the steak and rice grouped together, and then the veggies, gyoza, and the sauce for the gyoza each separated. The tender juicy steak is marinated in a sweet but balanced teriyaki sauce which nicely gets soaked up by the rice. The veggies is a medley of red peppers, broccoli, zucchini, and onions, and they had a nice smoky, grilled, Hibachi flavor. The chicken gyoza is fried to a perfect, crunchy golden brown and pairs so well with the tangy, creamy sauce. The Steak Bento Box comes with a 16 oz. fountain drinks (Coca Cola products and water). I just got water. The cashier came to check on me shortly after my meal was delivered. I told her I was in love. I can't wait to go back!

The hibachi is delicious! I highly recommend this place! If you don't want to go to a sit down hibachi place and want to have a more chill experience I highly recommend going here! The staff is super nice and will check on you! The seating and decor are gorgeous! You can even take the hibachi to go! I got the Shrimp Hibachi and they gave us YUM YUM SAUCE! I would go back a thousand times! It's located right next to Potbelly and Ruby Nails close to Marshalls off of cox and broad st

Very clean and nice environment for eating lunch with friends!!! The food was fresh and delicious and served quickly. I ordered the Bento lunch which includes a California roll and a special roll (I picked the Rainbow roll) with a drink. It was a good lunch stop with friends!

Wow. I can't say that I was expecting much from a Japanese eatery in a strip mall, but I was definitely blown away here. First of all, the food itself was extremely delicious -- I got the steak bento box with chicken gyoza and a side of avocado rolls. Everything tasted fresh and exceeded my expectations. As a native New Yorker, my standards for Japanese food (and *all* food for that matter) tend to be pretty high, but I was pleasantly surprised by the great quality, reasonable price and fast service here. If you're in the mood for a delicious hibachi meal for under $20, this is definitely the place to go.

Ordered Takeout and pleasantly surprised! I ordered the chicken habachi box and everything was delicious. The fried rice was soft but still had a toothsome bite (so it wasn't mushy), the veggies were crisp and well seasoned. The chicken (all dark meat it looked like) was tender and seasoned (I did drizzle their yum yum sauce over it- the plain chicken could use more seasoning or sauce, and the star of the bento was the chicken Gyoza , Deep friend and filled with chicken and bright veggies- nothing beats a flavorful, crispy wonton and this was excellent. This checked all the boxes for me, craving Japanese habachi but not wanting to go somewhere only to emerge smelling like a fried onion. Will order again!

Decided to try Akoya kitchen for lunch. Service was efficient and easy for takeout. You do get a decent amount of food for the money but nothing special about their hibachi chicken. Nothing like some unseasoned chicken and rice drenched in a salty mystery brown sauce. I added some of the white sauce as well but that didn't really make much difference. Food was just okay. Probably won't return.

    Pleasant decor inside!

Tasty, fresh, and delicious. A great lunch spot for sushi or hibachi box. My favorite are their sushi bento boxes.

I've made it my personal rule to stop here before I grocery shop, because walking into Lotte on an empty stomach is a financial decision I can no longer afford to make. I got the salmon, tuna, and sukiyaki, and every single one was exactly what a good onigiri should be: generously filled, perfectly textured rice that holds together just right without feeling like a compressed brick, and flavors that are clean and satisfying without trying too hard. It sounds simple because it is simple. That's the whole point, and that's exactly why it's so hard to do well. The owners are warm and genuinely friendly in a way that feels real, not rehearsed. The interior is small and charming, lined with anime figures and collectibles that give it this cozy, personal energy, like eating in someone's lovingly curated living room. Seating is limited, but I usually take mine to go anyway, eating it in the parking lot like a man who has zero regrets. Here's the thing though. O!nigiri used to have a spot in Carytown years ago, and when they closed, I took it harder than I'd like to admit. Something about losing a place that does something specific incredibly well hits different. So when I found out they were back, I felt genuinely victorious. Don't sleep on this place. It's a small, perfect thing in a city that deserves more of them.

We walked in not expecting much, and we were amazed at the speed and efficiency of the staff. This place seems like a happening place for the night crowd, lots of young men and women congregating at the bar. Our server was shy and quiet, but she was quick and efficient at her job. We ordered the Thai Iced Tea (quite literally the best I have ever had in my life) and the Drunken Noodles. I am a pad kee mao aficionado, and theirs were fantastic. The atmosphere was interesting, eclectic if I had to sum it up in a word. There were multiple seating genres, if that makes sense. We sat at the small four-top in the lower area, and the view of the whole restaurant was great for people watching if you're into that sort of thing. We came here with no expectations, and we were blown away. What a hidden gem; we certainly got our money's worth. Whole-hearted recommendation from both of us.
